Bulldogs finish with Top 5 rankings in both polls

The Georgia Bulldogs finished with a Top 5 ranking in both The Associated Press and coaches’ final polls released early Tuesday. But the Bulldogs remained behind Notre Dame, which lost to Alabama 42-14 in the BCS national championship game Monday night.

Georgia (12-2) finished in a tie for fifth with Texas A&M in the AP poll, which is a compilation of media votes. Notre Dame (12-1) was fourth. The Bulldogs were fourth in the USA Today coaches’ poll, one spot behind the Fighting Irish.

This represents the third time under coach Mark Richt the Bulldogs’ have closed out a season with a Top 5 ranking. They were No. 2 in 2007 and No. 3 in 2002. It’s Georgia’s sixth Top 10 final ranking under Richt, including 2003 (7), 2004 (7), 2005 (10) and 2008 (10). It’s the 18th time overall UGA has finished ranked among the AP top 10.

Alabama secured its third BCS title in the last four years Monday night in Miami to finish No. 1. Oregon (12-1)  was second in both polls and Ohio State was ranked third in the AP, despite being on NCAA probation and ineligible for postseason play or conference championships.

Congradulations to Georgia and I hope this will carry into next year as a positive. I am really excited about this and coupled with Murray coming back and hopefully some other juniors that haven’t decided their status yet, it will be an opportunity for a good year. Please stay Malcome and Mason we need you!

I really would hope that some of those considering Georgia would come on board and maybe some that de-commited will reconsider? Say Derrick Henry?

Again congrads to the team and to the coaches. Also seems to be a great hire on the defensive line coach and to Coach Miller, welcome to Georgia and the very best as a “Dawg”.

Congrads to Alabama and coach Saban and we will be hopefully have a re-match next year? Go Dawgs!

Oh well. Georgia would’ve clearly handled ND last night if they had the opportunity. Bama made the play they needed to so they earned the right pummel the Irish last night. Let’s just all agree that we don’t need the BCS or playoff moving forward. The SEC winner is the national champ by default.

The pathetic schedule of Notre Dame really hurts them when they play against the big boys. You could tell they were not prepared phsically. Notre Dame along with Ohio State who has the easiest most pathetic schedule in the nation would be 7 win teams in the SEC and that is it. I will also go as far as to say that Ohio State would finsih 5th in the SEC East this year behind UGA, UF, USCe & Vandy. Notre Dame might be able to finish above Vandy.

Since A&M tied for 5th most points also, we can safely call Ga #6. A&M will be called Top 5 since they had the same record, but actually had wins over quality teams (including the Nat’l Champ) and the Heisman Winner

Another prime example of the biased, comedic system we call “college football rankings”. Not only does the SEC deserve an apology from all sports writers, but I’d like for T’eo to give back all of his awards. Jones deserves most. Its obvious after last night.

SEC is King. Clemson rated ahead of Florida? You gotta be kidding me? Florida did look pathetic in loss to Louisville (bad play, bad coaching, abandon game plan way too early), but Clemson is not that good. LSU played like it did not want to be here (Atl) and of course Mad Hatters blind luck ran out. ACC blows, heck Tech may be top in ACC!?

Interesting to see how all of the Buckeye parolees – excuse me, fans – are

If your monthly TV rental payment was made on time, you saw what Bama

I agree with the announcers last night who said that the true national championship game had already taken place when Alabama played Georgia back in December. The Bulldogs came within one big play of beating BAMA. Had that occurred and the Dogs ended up playing last night, they clearly would have blown Notre Dame off the field. Georgia ought to be number 2 in this poll. At the very least they should be ranked ahead of the Fighting Irish.

Anyway, congratulations to Coach Saban and the Crimson Tide. Three national titles in four seasons. That is absolutely astounding. No one team should dominate Division 1 college football like that. The time has arrived to consider moving the Tide to the NFL. Put them in the NFC South with the Falcons, Bucs, Saints and Panthers.

I don’t see how Notre Dame is still ranked in the top 10 after that performance last night. They were exposed as a mediocre team and lucked out in too many of their games to count. They needed multiple overtimes to beat Pitt? Ole Miss, a 7-6 SEC team, beat Pitt like a drum.

I also can’t believe the AP voters wasted votes on Ohio State. They were on probation, guys. This season didn’t matter for them.

And I’m not sure about us being tied with A&M. Don’t get me wrong, A&M’s a great team, but we won more games than they did. Yeah, they beat Alabama, but we beat Florida. And the fact that they have the Heisman winner on their team shouldn’t count because that’s an individual achievement: Baylor didn’t get a polling boost from having RGIII on board last year, did they?

But whatever, we finished in the top 5 and had a dang good year. Now I’m excited to play in Death Valley (both of ‘em!) next year.

How can anyone put Notre Dame at #4? They can’t play with the big boys in the SEC and next year will be another step toward proving that. Surely the polls will favor them again with a high ranking and they’ll get another cream puff schedule and move up in the polls as they’ve historically done. Several teams in the SEC could beat Notre Dame…… Texas A&M, Ga., South Carolina and maybe even Flo-ri-duh. I don’t see anyone knocking off Alabama next year. Sabin just reloads and gets the players he wants! Interesting thing he said after winning this one: “Hard work, discipline and dedication”! Quite a formula! Ranking Notre Dame in the top 5 is really a prime example of a new phenomena spreading through the so called elites in our society today: a ridiculous refusal to admit they were wrong. see major league baseball after the infield fly gate in the playoffs, Roger Goodell almost anytime, the administration after Benghazi, and the media after 4 years of policy and leadership failure. in the 21st century if you are self important you never admit you were wrong, you double down on your idiocy. I mentioned to someone last night that the voters in the polls who voted ND # 1 should hang their heads in shame. they put a team on the level with Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, maybe Vandy, into the title game. anyone who doesn’t think Oregon, Stanford, even Fla State or Clemson would not have made for a much better game. nD did not earn the spot. if they join a conference where they have to actually play somebody and win something to qualify, then they would deserve it. But the same people who voted ND #1 refuse to admit they were historically wrong. and anyone who follows college football knows it. all you sports writers, I got some news: the king ain’t wearing no clothes, everybody knows it, and it ain’t pretty:)

If not for the media bias, Notre Dame, might not be considered even a top 10 team, as last night clearly showed.
Alabama is still clearly the cream of the crop in college ball, but the magic of what the SEC is, dictates that the other teams will still keep on pushing and the SEC champion each year, will most likely be the superior team in the college football world again next year and for the foreseeable future. Notre Dame will limp off to join the ACC in 2014, so they can be assured of a BCS bowl, even though, after the debacle of the competition in the games the last few years, the orange bowl will not be considered top flight in the near future.
Ohio State can brag about being undefeated in the big 10?, this year, in what has to be considered a pretty poor year from teams of that conference, and Alabama would have crushed them as well, if they had played last night. I don’t think I have seen a more dominating game, where one team was so superior to another in the championship game than I did last night, and that stretches back quite a few years. Alabama is simply the best team right now, in college, and presents a goal for the rest of college football to try and obtain. Congratulations to them, for a terrific championship game.

Buckeye you don’t see the parallels between ND and Ohio State? They both played a bunch of pansies in the BIG10 (aka MAC-b) and barely beat the same Purdue, Michigan, etc. The only difference is ND played and beat Stanford and Oklahoma which are both certainly better than the cellar dwellers of the BIG10. As so many people like to say about the Bulldogs, Ohio State didn’t play anybody. Ohio State was lucky they didn’t get to go lose their bowl game this season and get exposed AGAIN! Ohio only matters once every four years and it has nothing to do with football.

You are right, the ACC doesn’t need Notre Dame. As bad as they showed last night, once they start ACC play, they will most likely dominate the ACC. Not to mention the fact that the ACC will actually benefit momentarily quite a bit. by having a money draw like Notre Dame to feed off of. Just think, now Georgia Tech. will continuously be dominated by two teams each year, with both UGA and Notre Dame, having to play Tech.

“…To put ND in front of Georgia and to put Florida in front of Louisville is unbelievable…”

I agree; it’s crazy. Seems like ND makes the rankings almost by default every year. They get a lot of pub from the talking heads even when they’re having losing seasons. So, ‘74 Dawg’, it’s not at all a “new phenomena”.

I’d have to put T A&M ahead of the Bulldogs only because they did beat Bama. Kudos to Vandy for making the rankings. How ’bout N Dakota St being ranked ahead of half the SEC teams? They do play some tough football up there.

I see the Bulldogs no higher than 10th in pre-season rankings; and ND a top 5…even though pre-season rankings don’t amount to a hill of beans. I wouldn’t mind even 15th and under the radar. I worry about the team’s mindset when they’re ranked too high right off the bat.

All that being said, How ‘Bout Them Dawgs?!! Great season!

So Lou Holtz and Urban Meyer raved about ND’s D. ESPN’s acclaimed football gurus and top flight analyst. More like their paid cheerleaders for the Big 10 and ND. All season Holtz bragged about ND and its D.
23 minutes into the game, 3 possessions and 3 drives over 70 yards and the Tide had rolled ND’s defense. Just maybe ESPN could be honest and fair in coverage of the college football.
Let us Dawgs and SEC alums be honest. ND could beat two SEC teams…Auburn and Kentucky.
Here are your top 3 teams…Bama, Georgia, and A&M.
Even a female talk radio show host said on a cable network said the game was over in the first quarter and that ND looked and played like a Washington DC prep school.
And even a Pat Forde understands what is happening in D1 football. Pittsburg take ND to 3 overtimes and Ole Miss drills them.
Sportswriters and voters have to be honest with readers, the players, the coaches, and the conferences. Otherwise they should get forever from covering D1 football. First to go should be Holtz, Meyer, and Musburger…all have something in common other than their self indulgence and bias…football has passed them by and they never saw it…very similar to ND’s defense against Bama’s “grown man football”.

Why would you complain about the system when the SEC has won 7 straight? I know, because you’re dumb enough to think it will be SEC vs SEC every year in the NC. Playoffs will help all of the other teams be more competitive. With a playoff right now, you’d still only have Bama left in it, but without a month to prepare.

Next Year

Saban is wired differently than 99% of college coaches. He is a respected leader and expects excellence from himself and everyone he works with. Players know if they do what he asks that he’ll take them to the promised land and in the process, he’ll work harder than they do to ensure success. When asked what he’s most proud of after last night’s game, Saban said the way his team represents the school and football program both on and off the field.

Other coaches- including Richt- don’t have the same drive and passion to win NCs that Saban has. Saban showed more passion and moxy last night in the 4th qtr up 30 points than Richt showed all year.
Additionally, you rarely hear about off-field problems with Saban’s players yet Richt’s players find trouble at every turn. This shows that Saban’s players respect him while Richt’s players like him. Big difference.

In the end, Nick Saban is in a league that Richt and most other coaches will never know. While Saban seeks his 5th title, Richt still trying to connect the dots on his first. I’d be willing to bet that Saban could have won multiple titles with the talent Richt has had at UGA. Richt’s mismanagement of UGA’s talent is very similar to Cox’s mismanagement of the Braves in the 90’s. Difference being Cox lucked into one title.

Either one of two things: Either UGA should not have dropped after losing in the SEC Championship game, or Notre Dame should have dropped after losing the National Championship game. Personally, I could argue both ways, especially after how bad ND looked last night. But in general, I say that if you are good enough to make it to a championship game, whether conference or national championship, the worst you should come out is #2 in the conference or in the nation. I certainly didn’t think UGA should have dropped below FL (and out of the Sugar Bowl) after losing to Alabama, so I guess I have to stick with the same philosophy and stick with ND as #2. The same would apply if we go to a playoff. 1 vs 2 will yield #1 and #2, losers of the semi finals would be 3 and 4.

On a separate note, I think UGA would have defeated ND, but it it had been a rematch, Alabama would have rolled over UGA, not close like the SEC Championship game. UGA’s run defense would have done them in.

Lastly, I am really glad Tao didn’t win the Heisman. Johnny Football starred in his game, Teo was almost a non-factor. Jarvis should send him something, because he just insured that Jarvis will be the first LB taken.

Just further points up the travesty in the current system and the SEC in particular where they allowed uneven officiating to decide the SEC Championship game and thus the BCS MNC game as well. Norte Dame was proven on the field and exposed by Bama as not deserving to be in the game in the first place. Oregon should have been there and would have provided better competition for the SEC representative. But until games are officiated evenly with the officials not deciding outcomes it is what it is. Dawgs still had a great season.

To Steve Spurrier: I would take your bet because if the SEC Championship game had been called evenly Alabama would not have been in the game. Terrible officiating decided the outcome of the game and nothing you can say or anybody else may say can change that. Anyways the Dawgs had a great season.

I am first to admit that Bama is the class of college football and has been the last 4 years. I’ve said they should join the AFC Central.

Yes, Bama would have beaten this year’s Buckeyes just as Alabama did (and would) beat everything but Johnny Football.

Saban has first dibs on the best players and he has demonstrated he is the best coach. Nice combo.

dogs recruit “special admits” who underachieve – at least according the the hype that precedes them ( See King, Ealey (the spitter) and Isaiah, The Anointed One who is facing felony weapon charges, Crowell.

The dogs gave up 350 rush yards to Bama, Who was the last team to give up 350 on the ground and win?

Except got my soft spot for Vandy, the SEC! SEC! chant is nothing but SEC! SEC! parasites invading the accomplishments of one team – Alabama. Not FL, not LSU, not USC, certainly not the dog – none contributed this year for the right to chant.

dogs beat FL. FL loses to Louisville. dogs beat Nebraska. Wisc beat Nebraska. Stanford beat Wisconsin. So what.

Look, Georgia is in the SEC. Living in the SEC means you play a different level of overall talent and competition on a consistent basis. Take your opinion and mine out of the equation and this is what intelligent unbiased football analysts say. Do other conferences have some good teams? Sure they do. It’s just that no conference consistently compares in football with the SEC. To argue otherwise is an exercise in futility.

You haters can’t handle the truth… and logic really throws you into a tizzy. This is a football blog not an academic blog although I have had those arguments as well here. All last night proves is that the ND would probably be the 4th, 5th or maybe 6th best team in the SEC.

Did you see their D-line dropping like flies after 1 SEC level game? Imagine the injuries (read- exposed lack of depth) and what that would do to Notre Dame over the course of a year.

No one is riding coat tails… If you believe in the rankings then give UGA credit and move on. If you don’t care about rankings then don’t ever bring up again what Georgia’s record is against teams who finish ranked. You can’t have it both ways and consider yourself logical. It’s impossible.

We’re tied with them in the AP poll, and the press are the only ones who really care about that poll. The Coaches Poll is the only one that matters between the two. There was questions as to why Notre Dame wasn’t getting any love before the game except from Catholics and not all of them.
The answer is Notre Dame is living in the past and are the only team in America who is allowed “to have it’s cake and eat it too”. Meaning Notre Dame is allowed to NOT be a member of a credible Conference who has to play a Conference Championship and have the same consideration in the polls when their schedule turns out to be one of the easiest in the nation. The only team they beat this year who didn’t have 3 to 5 losses was Stanford and I will argue all day that Stanford scored on that run play and if the officials had gotten it right Stanford would have beaten Notre Dame. Notre Dame should have ended at number 6 or 7 at best but if they had to play any of the top 10 they would loss at least 7 to 9 of those game.

The BCS only cares about who is the best team in America. That is why we have never had a playoff. My contention is we need at least an 8 team playoff to get the top 10 as close to right as possible. It is just as important to expose teams like Louisville and Notre Dame . With an 8 team playoff Florida would have had something to prove and would have been more prepared because with a win they move to the next round. Notre Dame would have lost in the 1ST round and ended up ranked about 8TH to 10TH where they deserved. attendance for those games would be all sell out because until they lose everyone of the 8 teams would still have a chance to be National Champions. BCS suk for not realizing it.

@MurfDawg– SC played 6 teams in the final AP rankings ( UGA, Fla, LSU, Clemson, Vandy and Michigan) going 4-2. UGA played 5 teams (ALA, SC, Fla, Vandy and Nebraska) going 3-2. Does that answer your question about SOS?

Strat Cat Dawg

I won’t argue about Oregon but how Notre Dame ends up rated ahead of UGA and TAMU is hard to figure. Body or work? Sure ND had one loss to #1 and Georgia had a bad loss to SC but- after UGA’s poor showing, they came back to beat UF and everyone else except a squeaker to Bama and A&M, well you know that story. So if the way you finish means anything, it’s 1) Bama, 2) Ducks, 3) Dawgs/A&M, 5) Irish.

The AP poll should be ashamed of themselves for ranking Ohio State as high as they got or even giving them a ranking at all.. At best Ohio State should have ended around 8TH to 10TH The Big 10’s second best team was Northwestern who had 3 losses and they ended ranked 16TH in one poll and 17TH in the other . Since they did not play anybody out of their Conference rated in the top 50 and since they didn’t have to win the Conference Championship they lost the privilege of even being rated at all. Ohio State would have lost in the 1ST round in a playoff this year unless they had been lucky enough to have gotten Notre Dame .

Colin Cowherd was just talking with Ohio State alum Kirk Herbstreit who called last night’s game. Cowherd said Ohio State being 3rd in the final AP poll was absurd, that if you had watched them play they couldn’t finish 3rd in the SEC West. Herbstreit said his top 5 off the top of his head would probably be Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, Georgia and Ohio State. Cowherd said no way, he’d take LSU over Ohio State. Herbstreit said “you could probably make a pretty good argument for that.”

Urban Meyer looked a little ashen faced on the telecast at halftime last night after he picked Notre Dame to win before the game. I think he was having a flashback to the 2009 beatdown his Florida team took from Saban in the 2009 SEC Championship game that put him in the hospital and ultimately made his a$$ quit before heading on to the easier life in the Big 10.

The BCS only care about who end up number 1 but I argue that if we had an 8 team playoff then the top 10 would be relevant at the end of the year . Lets take a look at teams that ended this year in the top ten who shouldn’t even be there,
1-Ohio State- didn’t play anybody ,or a Conference Championship
2– Notre Dame –didn’t play anybody or a Conference Championship
In an 8 team playoff you would have the top eight teams giving it their all because any of them could end up National Champions .

While I’d reward Notre Dame for their season with a #8 ranking and would rate Florida and LSU behind them because of their dud bowl game performances, I have to admit that in a game with both teams prepared and motivated I think Florida or LSU would whip them on both lines of scrimmage and win, though neither has the offense to beat them like Alabama did. But I think Notre Dame would beat Ohio State.

It was interesting how similar Alabama’s beatdowns of Michigan to open the season and Notre Dame to end the season were. NOT ROCKET SCIENCE::::: moving the ball and scoring has never been a problem for Richt and company in Athens. When and Whenever Richt gets a lock down defense, Dawgs will be in the hunt every year. Don’t know why ( I have to say coaching) this defense got pushed around on the ground by most they played. Grantham needs a package to convert to slow down and stop the run. Playing three down lineman and having both outside LB’s blitz wide and tricking the other 2 LB’s to pick up the TE and Short WR going out short leaves lot’s of BIG HOLES to run through.

If Ohio State had not been on probation they would have played Notre Dame for the National Championship . Now that game may have gone to overtime . Notre Dame got his bullwhip. The real top Ten looks like this, ALA, TEX A&M, UGA,ORE, STAN,SOUTH CAR. ND,CLEM, FLA, and FLA STATE. The ND bias is in full effect. We’re you people on EARTH last night as they got crushed? Te’o, vastly overrated, running game not there, defensive line exposed, nobody picking up blitzes, and last, ut not least, your OC going after a top five corner cosistantly. Who’s up next? OSU,STAN,USC! People if you doubt the power of the SEC, look at the playoffs this weekend and you’ll see every team has at least two players from this conference that are difference makers, and if that doesn’t, there’s always the seven in a row effect that gets people’s attention.

GA is playing ND last night!!!!! Not. Richt is the worst coach of any major team in college football in “critical” moments. Saben has proven to be one of the best. The top 5 is total BS, but America’s romance with Notre Dame football, Knute Rockne, the Gipper, touchdown Jesus, the luck of the Irish, etc. etc. is longstanding, and that is not going to change now. Plus, the rest of college football has pretty much had it up to here with SEC dominance (but they need to get used to it.

Notre Dame got ran off the field and out of Miami last night and putting them in the top 5 is a complete joke after considering what Texas A&M and Georgia did against the Tide, but there they are. Over ranked all year, they should finally be getting their actual ranking of 9, 10, 11 or there abouts. But that ND love affair is strong and here to stay.

Just look at all the national hype they got before the game last night, and arguably, lowly Pitt had them beaten as well as Stanford, both missing field goals that would have won their games, and ND escaped others by the seat of their pants. The real top 3, Alambama, Texas A&M, and Georgia? . . . and then Ohio State and Stanford, who beat Oregon, fuggedaboudit . No way that the top 3 teams being SEC schools is going to fly, even if it is correct.

The one consolation is that Irish fans are now all being rudely awakened to the fact that suspending reality and ignoring and denying what they saw happening before their eyes all year, and then buying 100% into your own hype and BS based on the sentimental Irish legendary days of yore — well, that is going to lead to a lot of bitter disappointment. They may not have noticed, until last night, but the SEC is not the same league that it was whne the Irish squeaked out their 24-23 win based on a lucky play way back when.

And how about some more reality while we are at it? Your defensive “wonder” Manti Te’o would not even be a starter for Bama, A&M, or Georgia. He was obviously the most over rated guy on the field. By comparison, if Jarvis Jones played for Notre Dame, he would be Pope by now.

Oh well, the Irish can keep on drinking their cool-aid, along with big sports media types, and now there is even more reason to hate the SEC, but it won’t matter. Bama will probably do it again next year, and if they suffer any losses, it will be only to Georgia or A&M or some other SEC team. The college football world is looking forward to 2014 and the “play offs” so this SEC control can finally be broken. Prediction: 3 out of the final 4 in 2014, you guessed it, SEC teams. But please don’t hate them just because they are the best, despite this year’s idiotic final standings.

Sad to say this, but James Franklin, Vandy’s coach could win 10-12 games a year with the talent Richt has, but never seems to get the best out of. A Dawg Fan, but here’s GEORGIA’S reality. MIKE BOBO! Mike Smith the Atlanta Falcons Coach had to face that reality, and so far it’s paid off. The Talent is here, just look at the last two games, They used there T.E.’s alot, question is why didn’t you all year when they both came in in different years ranked #2 and #3 in the country. Why was Marshall not used more against Bama? I could go n and on, but last but not least, why did we wait to see Marshall could catch outta the bacfield in the last game, when he could;ve been a swing pass away from breaking many long runs, and freezing LB’s while on the field with Gurley. Clemson can score with any team in the country. They should of beat LSU worst than a field goal. They are a good football team with back-to-back 11 win seasons. With the recruiting class they have coming in, they will be right back in the thick of things. They beat 2 SEC teams, so what is the problem and they are by far the best conference in the country. Pretty darn good year and I look for omprovement next year predicated on experience; especially with AM coming back. This will be especially true in the month of September. Come out of there 3-1, and we should be in the hunt until the end!

What UGA should worry about is what the defenses of those September opponents will look like….if we can play only as well as the ‘12 underachievers, we should be alright.

Loved the bowl season: Tech, Louisville, ‘Bama and of course The Dogs kind of set things straight, although for the life of me, I cannot understand what happened to the ‘Lizards’…..and if they ever have an OL Hall of Fame, the 1st inductee is B Jones of UA!

Ain’t NOBODY whoever played in the line from peewee on up, who hasn’t wanted at one time or another to tell his QB to “FO and STFU” and then almost shove him on his ass; great and I loved it! To top it Jones should have gone over after the game and smooched up that AU cutie of McCarron’s!

marseilles mutt, I like your comments on Barrett Jones. He had one of the great college football careers of all time: started at 3 different offensive line positions on 3 national championship teams, won the Outland Trophy in 2011 and the Rimington Award for the top center in 2012. Completed undergraduate and graduate degrees with a 4.0 GPA and won the NCAA award for top scholar athlete. And he worked to help the Tuscaloosa tornado victims and went on mission trips overseas during the summers. I don’t know if there’s ever been another college football player who can match Barrett’s list of accomplishments on and off the field.

Saban said in his press conference today that even as he has been leading his team and trying to be a positive role model he looks at Barrett Jones and wonders if he should be more like him. Saban liked the dust up between Jones and McCarron, said it was a reflection that they were focused on being their best every play for 60 minutes no matter what the score.

Suspect the only real outcome will be to highlight to Spurrier NOT to call the beatdown off in the middle of 3rd quarter again but go ahead with putting the up the 48pts like he could have done against UGA. But who would have thought that pollsters would have kept a team beaten so badly in the Top 10, when they should have been dropped into the 20s. Then UGAs 86th ranked soft schedule would never have gotten them back anywhere near the Top 10.

Reality is that the SEC looks like they are going to need a separate division of football so that the other teams can compete for a Division 1AA title.

It is simple playing in the SEC makes there champion that much stronger. Bama played TA&M, LSU, GA, MISS & Miss ST, All bowl teams. To be the best you have to play the best, playing against SEC competition is the reason that the SEC has won the last Seven BCS titles. Playing in the Big10 only builds you a resume but when it comes to the big stage your resume is exposed. OSU is very much like ND undefeated against average competition, no doubt OSU loses to Bama, GA, SC, TA&M, maybe LSU and FLA. So when we chant SEC it is because playing in the SEC makes all SEC teams stronger.

please my friend……..Ole Miss who UGa played annihilated Pitt, Texas A&M destroyed OK, Bama wiped out MI and GT beat USC (that truly proves USC sucks). ND did NOT play a tougher schedule than UGa….you are totally off base dude.

What your shallow mind fails to grasp is that UGA purposely allowed USCe to win and the reason is simple.

Spurrier will eventually self destruct if he keeps getting close and fails to win an NC at USCe. His health has deteriated to the point that 1 or 2 more finishes behind UGA and he will be headed for the “Looney House”.

So we lost to Bama by 4 points, but lost to South Carolina by 28. South Carolina would roll past Bama by 3 TD’s and absolute demolish Notre Dame! South Carolina should be National champs!! Hahaha! Example of how dumb we are looking on this blog. Also, who gives a shit about the final rankings? Nobody will remember who finished 2nd in about 2 years, seriously. And Its sad to see other Ga. fans trying to “justify” or “argue” with other bloggers about this. Dont argue with these piss ants, man! UGA is at a point where we have turned the page and dont have to justify shit anymore…at 12 wins a year you dont have to. Its all good here in Athens, baby!

The Dawgs can not run with the big dogs because of mid-level coaching. Tremendous talent every year but poorly coached. always a brridesmaid but never the bride. No NT with these coaches. That’s just the way it will be. Ga coaching would have let the team quit at halff time with that lead and take off the 3rd and 4th quarters until 3 min left in the game , then play like hell tring to regain the lead they had allowed ND to build up during that time. Sorry, folks that just the way it is and you knoe it.

Vandy
Ole Miss
UGA

Other teams that would give ‘em a big problem:

Tenn

Notre Dame is a FRAUD and a disgrace to college football. There are 7 or 8 teams in the SEC that would hand their a$$ to them. What a phony fraud! Another thing, if this linebacker for the phony Irish is so good…where was he last night. I never saw him make a single tackle, I did see him jump on the pile…when he wasn’t getting run over every other play. IF this guy was playing in the SEC he would be on the bench…another fraud. It’s a disgrace that players like Jarvis Jones, Alec Ogletree, Javon Clowney and the kids from Florida and LSU had to be second fiddle to this DUD. What a joke this sorry bunch from Notre Dame was to be on the same field with Alabama.

Looks to me that finishing 4th or 5th (or even top 10) compares well with our recruiting. Bama’s been top five in recruiting every year under Saban. Heck, Flawduh has higher recruiting rankings than the Dawgs the last few years. So, coach Richt and staff have coached fairly well vis a vis recruiting. There are about 15-20 other programs that haven’t coached em up just as well…like Okey, Tex, USC, and even mighty Notre Dame.

To say that any other SEC team would beat ND is an exercise in futility. We don’t know that.

But, so much for the “losing early is better than losing late in the season” argument. ND lost late and still maintained a high ranking. Go figure.

You wanta talk about programs not living up to preseason rankings…check out Okey, Tex, W Va, S Cal…yes S Cal in particular. In early Sep several pundits were falling all over themselves about W Va.

Alabama Dog, that one game we lost was to see who finished #1. ND is not #1, so you are correct that thier is no overcoming losing that game. That game decided who was #1 and it is Alabama. However, you losing in the 5th week of the season 35-7 and then winning the rest of your games, until the biggest game of your season (SEC Champioship), a good game for sure, but you still lost, does not merrit you being #2 (or even ranked above ND). I know it and deep down you know it! We (ND, UGA) are not at the same level as Bama, as was proven through not just Monday night but the whole season. Also, who in the hell is UGA ranked above SC, when Spurrier beat the dawgs 35-7?

Georgia has more than just 5 yards to go to surpass Alabama as a football program….consider this:

- Bama had more recruited scholarship players than Georgia on its roster (i.e., Bama had 80 recruited scholarship players to start the season; UGA had 67 recruited scholarship players to start the season [would have been 68 but Kolton Houston was ruled ineligible by the NCAA])

— Bama signed 135 players (avg. 27 players/yr) the last 5 years (2008-2012) while Georgia signed 108 (avg. 21.6 players/yr); bottomline: Bama had more recruited scholarship players to cull from and hedge against attrition

- Bama had more talent than Georgia (i.e., Bama avg. 3.83 stars per scholarship player; UGA avg. 3.62 stars per scholarship player)

- Bama had a better offense than Georgia (i.e., Bama had the nation’s #12 scoring offense (38.71 ppg); Georgia had the nation’s #19 scoring offense (37.8 ppg))

— Bama had a better offensive line than Georgia (i.e., Bama’s starting OL featured 3 All-Americans [2 First Team, 1 Second Team]; Georgia’s OL didn’t have any All-Americans or All SEC players)

- Bama had a better defense than Georgia (i.e., Bama had the nation’s #1 scoring defense (10.93 ppg) and #1 total defense (250 ypg); Georgia had the nation’s #18 scoring defense (19.64 ppg) and #32 total defense (357.8 ypg))

- Bama had better Special Teams than Georgia (i.e., Bama’s Net Punting (ranked #17), Punt Returns (ranked #44), Kickoff Returns (ranked #22), Bama held opponents to 6.5 yds per punt return; Georgia’s Net Punting (ranked #56), Punt Returns (ranked #74), Kickoff Returns (ranked #55), Georgia held opponents to 11.14 yds per punt return; additionally, Bama’s placekicker was 11 for 11 on FGs (100%) and 69 of 69 on PATs (100%) while UGA’s placekicker was 8 of 14 on FGs (57.1%) and 63 of 67 on PATs (94%))

- Bama is a more disciplined team than Georgia (i.e., Bama is the least penalized team in FBS the last 5 years (in 2012, Bama was penalized 104 times for 903 yds; in 2012, Georgia was penalized 186 times for 1,448 yds; thus Georgia provided its opponents 545 more yds than Alabama))

- Bama spends more money on its football program than Georgia (i.e., Bama spent $36.9 million on its football program while Georgia spent $22.7 million; in other words, Georgia spent $14.2 million less on its football program than did Bama…or if you prefer, Bama spent 62.6% more on its football program than Georgia did); moreover, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, and LSU outspent Georgia

- Bama employs a bigger Football Staff than Georgia (i.e., Bama employs at least 7 Football Analysts (in June 2012 they had 9 per al.com article) while Georgia employs none)

Anybody that ranks Notre Dame ahead of Georgia or Texas A&M has something bad wrong with their understanding of things. Things like football. Things like reality. I wouldn’t advise them to place bets with rent money.

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt might beat Notre Dame. Georgia, A&M, South Carolina certainly would.

One of my favorite bowl games was the Ole Miss game. Those guys had a wonderful time whipping up on the team Notre Dame barely beat in triple overtime, and that was with a lot of luck.

Notre Dame is not a top five team in the SEC, and not a top 10 team by any standard.
