Georgia has a ‘Marshall Plan’ for Nebraska in Capital One Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. — After Todd Gurley ran for 1,260 yards this season – and 122 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in the SEC Championship game – the tendency is to think that fellow freshman Keith Marshall is a less valuable back for Georgia at this stage in his young career.

Marshall had just two carries against Alabama. But offensive coordinator Mike Bobo insisted Saturday that Marshall remains more of a 1-B option to Gurley. Injuries and extenuating circumstances, he said, had more to do with Marshall’s reduced presence toward the end of the season than Gurley’s special talents.

“(Marshall) did not get as many touches in the Alabama game, but that’s just how the game went and how the other guy was running the ball,” Bobo said during a Capital One Bowl news conference Saturday at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. “But we’ve got a big plan for Keith in this game, and expect him to make plays and play well in this game. He’s running good.”

Marshall have fewer yards rushing than Gurley (723) and fewer overall carries (109 to 199). But he averaged more yards per carry (6.6 to 6.3) and had more runs of 50 or more yards (four to one).

Marshall was listed with a shoulder contusion heading into the SEC title game and he battled knee soreness the second half of the season. Bobo said the time off between the end of the season and bowl practices helped Marshall.

“He’ll be fresh and ready to go on Tuesday,” Bobo said.

Shhhhh…we are in the midst of the A+ #1 UGA football fan of ALL time. Don’t piss off Moist or he will get ya for not being true red and black.

The moron has probably never even set foot on campus other than to share a Bud Light from the cooler in the back of of his buddy’s Ford 150 parked on the sidewalk of Baxter for the Florida Atlantic game. He was the fat redneck yelling “Go DAWGS” at the top of his lungs from Section 600 that his boss unloaded at face value to him.

Grab a life, Francis!

This good to hear how we goning run ball down Corn Pone Huskers throats. They get to learning what SEC smash mouth football all about. We also expose SEC speed with Murray lighting them up passing to. BoP elleni will get bopped on nose so many times that he wishing be back to playing a sorry Whiskey team in Big10 champ embarrassing. Dawgs will make Corn Pones pay for Rolling Turd Bammers cheating Dawgs out a BCS champs when we better team but time runs out.

I’m not an #1 dog fan. I am a normanl dog fan. At least normal until you loser fans came along, rooting for rivals because you are a bigger fan of some stupid conference than of the University of Georgia.
It must be nice to be like Joey, or 1969. After the Dawgs game, throwing that UGA shirt in the corner and putting on that florida or bama shirt. What a disgrace. Like I said, the sec winning does NOTHING for UGA, UGA winning does.

Moist, have you tried meditation or yoga. Does wonders for the afflicted, angry soul. I may pull for rivals against for example Clemson who I hated more than anyone when we played them every year but I would never wear a UF shirt you idiot. No one said that about themselves and I would certainly feel sorry for someone like that. Picture this though. What if the SEC laid an egg in bowl games and SEC superiority came into question? Our high school players start going to Oklahoma, Clemson, Nebraska, etc. that’s why I pull for the conference over the alternative.

Moist Dawg….really? You’re name is Moist Dawg? A real Dawg would never want Clemson to put 40 more on LSU…. A real Dawg fan would never pull for Clemson. Go Dawgs and SEC. Hell, you’re probably pulling Notre Dame too. Pathetic. Come on Dawg fans, you agree, right?

Of course we do. I was at UGA in the early 80’s and we hated Clemson more than anybody including SEC rivals and Tech. I still hate them. I even hate Parkview for no other reason than their uniforms.

Add Dawgfan and Shane to the list of idiots.
Have you ever considered that maybe you don’t have to pick a side when watching a football game involving a team you should hate?
The only thing I’m rooting for in the nd/bama game is for me not to puke the entire 3 hours and as far as clemson goes, my 7 year old son tried rooting for clemson last season and I turned off the tv and wouldn’t let him watch anymore until he said he was sorry.
If UGA WINS it doesn’t matter what the rest of the conference does you morons. So go ahead and cheer for floriduh. I don’t know how you look at your wife, or children, or even the mirror for that matter.

Joey, you are spot on. My brother and one of my closest friends are Tech grads, and my wife and her family are Alabama grads. They all pull for UGA, except when their team plays us. Moist Dawg is full of it. I am a UGA grad and season ticket holder since 1969, and I pull for all SEC teams in bowl games and any other time they play outside the SEC. Yes, it is hard to root for Spurrier or the Gators, but they are all SEC brethren, and I am a conference homer and proud to say that. Red Stick from LSU has always been a good poster and SEC booster as well. Do well, SEC, make the conference proud!

Oh, and Moist Dawg, I live 42 miles from Clemson, so I try to go over there to see some ACC basketball games from time to time. I tell you that to make you more miserable with your feelings with us UGA fans who happen to root for some other schools from time to time. Now, that’s about basketball, and I am sure you still consider me a traitor for that as well. I’ve played my share of ball growing up and one thing I know is most athletes respect each other from other teams and show sportsmanship after a game. They laugh at disgruntled fans who chant I hate so-and-so with folded arms while pouting. Fans have big mouths and attitudes at a stadium and nowadays, on a computer. My only point is to just be cool guys don’t go extreme one way or the other. I didnt bother to proofread this so apologize for any comedic typos..try and have a good day now

I agree, its just all in fun. I have played competitive sports all my life and all games end in handshakes or prayers of thanks. Bad fans at all stadiums but more good than bad and I’ve been all over. Shared grilled chicken with Gator fans in Jacksonville and had a beer with UT fans in Knoxville. Best thing about it all is meeting people.

I have been a UGA fan since I moved to Atlanta 49 years ago and attended UGA…so I’m a UGA fan first and a SEC fan second and frankly anyone who doesn’t get that if a little slow.Hoping the Dogs come to play and we start 2013 in a winning fashion. Bobo is just doing a “please don’t transfer to somewhere where you might actually get to start and become a star” to Marshall. The kid should transfer to another BCS school, redshirt, and be a team’s #1 running back for four years. Richard Samuel was ruined by UGA, Marshall eventually will be too. Sad.

One thing i havent heard anyone mention is Nebraska’s #1 rated pass defense. I think Georgia will NEED to be able to establish the run. Im not predicting scores or bashing on your offense, but we have consistently had top 10 pass defenses under Bo. Also, the BIG 10 might not pass the ball so well this year, but last year we shut down Kirk Cousins, and Iowa’s Vandenburg(who had good numbers last year). This year we embarrassed Penn Sts Mcgloin who had an outstanding Qb efficiency rating. This is all not to mention that we just came from the Big 12 and they pass arguably better than any conference. So as worried as i am about my team stopping the run, i am not the least bit worried about the pass. Also if i were a Georgia fan wanting to get both of those backs on the field and I had this extra time to prep, I would run a two back wildcat and work in some read option. It gets both backs on the field and it has been a major weakness to the Blackshirt D. We are going to let the chips fall where they may. GBR

Gurley and Marshall two of the best freshmen running backs in 2012. Also two fine young men who are excellent students. Very proud of both of them for their hard work. Looking forward to seeing them run for 200 yards plus and Murray throw for 300 yards on January 1st.

Marshall is a good back who hits the hole quickly and fast. He was more touted than Gurley coming out of high school. I am glad that Marshall is not going to be thrown to the wayside. I believe he would be a great kickoff returner. They should test him in this game on special teams. Marshall, you get what you deserve….you should’ve stayed and played at UNC…Hey, you were great in your Prep high school….its different at the major D-1 level…don’t get too many splinters during the next 3 years….I’m sure you will have transferred by then anyway…..I think Guilford College or NC A&T is looking for a back….

Bobo needs to occationally get Gurley and Marshall on the field at the same time.

Absolutely! I have been preaching that very same thing to my morning
armchair coffee club all season. It sure seems to me, Richt and Bobo
could come up with a package to have both on the field at the same time.
Defenses would surely have to divide focus if both were on the field at once, and that would create opportunities.

@Moist dawg First of all, LSU is not a rival. Second, In most cases, fans who will ONLY root for one team no matter the sport usually do so because they are not really sports fans. They just root for who everyone else is rooting for. Fans like you are what ruin games and reputations. Oh…and you are terrible father…

I’ve never been convinced that putting in (2) tailback at one time really “creates” any confusion or open any new holes. It seems like a waste of a potential blocker to me. Can’t really see any good defense being particularly fazed by it. An extra receiver or a good play action fake, would seem to me to be much more effective IF creating confusion was the goal. More so than which player is getting a handoff.

But I admit, I do not know what that play would specifically look like that you envision.
