Georgia will be without one of its most formidable defensive weapons when it plays Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1.
John Jenkins, a senior who started all 13 games at noseguard for the Bulldogs, was unable to meet academic requirements to maintain his eligibility for the bowl game. Georgia coach Mark Richt shared that news with reporters after the team convened at the Renaissance Orlando Hotel Wednesday evening.
“John Jenkins will not be coming to the bowl due to an academic-related issue,” Richt told reporters. “I think John Jenkins has been awesome for Georgia. I’ve been really proud of what he’s accomplished for us and just really want to wish him the very best because he’s been a blessing to our program.”
Jenkins has sat out bowl practices and been listed with a concussion since the Bulldogs returned to action following final exams on Dec. 12. Richt was asked this past Thursday if the Bulldogs suffered any academic casualties after fall semester but declined “until we get to the bowl sight.”
The 6-foot-3, 358-pound Jenkins was named second-team All-SEC this season by both the coaches and media. A junior college transfer, Jenkins played both noseguard and end for the Bulldogs, amassing 50 tackles and two tackles for loss.
Georgia will start junior Kwame Geathers for the bowl game. Jenkins’ loss is somewhat cushioned by the expected return of Abry Jones for the bowl game. Jones, a senior starter, missed the last seven games of the season after having to undergo ankle surgery.

Nebraska might get hammered like Tech did. It will be because UGA uses no resemblance of what a true STUDENT/athlete is. They only recruit for football only and then put their athletes in studies that no parent would put their kids in. Only made up degrees to get players qualified and with a tutor…. maybe able to pass. No parent would spend $ 60 k to put their kids in a menial degree. They are made up just for their athletes to win and to make money for the University. This is a real good message we’re sending to our kids. Don’t worry about school because it doesn’t matter….. just do good on the playing field because they will find a degree for you.

If I had 9 months to get to the NFL, get drafted in the first round, and make $15-20 mil, then FFFFF your degree. And I graduated from Georgia. Have y’all seen the economy lately? How bout those 50% unemployed college grads. But let’s keep it real, you all could give a damn, as long as you have football. I guess that makes Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg retarded dumb arses too? In America, it’s about amassing capitol, not paper and pride.

Educate yourself, maybe you should ask for a refund or a transfer. If you really are a student there then the UGA site calls it ” Family and Child Development “. Just as many players there are majoring in. Maybe you got ripped off but don’t blame he public. It’s your own University that’s putting out this propaganda. Talk to them. Now your somehow trying to tell the rest of us that kids who barely graduated from high school, some even had to go to a prep school or a junior college is now majoring in a degree normal to a FBS school that most parents are considering for their children!!!

Normally, I don’t respond to filth like you. But, I’m feeling generous this evening. I have a UGA degree. I graduated in 2009 and currently have a nice income of over 100K. I was an out of state student and paid over 30k per year (after room, board, tuition, etc.). My brother went to Emory at the same time as well. My dad was and still is in the Army, and we paid for all of it out of pocket w/o any debt. Do not tell me my UGA degree is worthless, son. You had better step up to the plate with some cold, hard, facts before you go spouting off with that absolute shit that is spewing from that orfus of your mouth. You had better sit down before someone (me) comes and makes you sit down. Please test me…go ahead….. post a response.

Two things to remember that happened in 2012: USCe beat the heck out of Nebraska and uga. They will beat the same out of you on New Years Day. If you could keep your team on the field, things might look better, or could it be leaving the ball on the 5 yard line??? Ha! Ha! Enjoy sunny Orlando dawgs………..

80% of these kids that make “momoney” going to the NFL end up losing even “momoney” than they made. They end up broke. That is truly sad. What is worse they have everyone around them (like some of you guys blogging) telling them how great they are until they are bankrupt.
The kid didn’t hold up his end of the deal. Hopefully he will learn from it, grow up, not and end up another sad statistic.

We can play 8 man fronts against the Huskers and dare them to throw deep, bring back the wide tackle 6 Dooley employed. Get our LBs in the gaps and pinch the middle with our other lineman. Bring Rambo up and man up their WRs. As for offense, play both Gurley and Marshall in the backfield and split Marshall on a wing, with 2 TEs and 2 WRs. They double our WRs, hit the middle with our TEs, who are under rated. They try to blitz Murray, let it fly. Being first in pass defense in the Big so-called 10 is like being first place in a beauty pageant in eastern KY.

Thanks, Red. I will actually be there in Orlando in 2013. USCe played Nebraska this year…. really? when? A-hole. UGA played a hell of a game in the SEC champ. game. That was a well fought contest by both sides. Anyone that says otherwise didn’t actually watch the game, or is what I previously stated what you are….

Just the untruth….you got beat up a lot as a kid. You never played sports and hated the guys that did and excelled at it. They got the hot girls and you got an x-box. Dam you guys are so easy to spot. You might make over 100k a year, but you still have to try and get your revenge behind a keyboard. Stop being so pitiful and enjoy life man. Stop blaming athletes or anyone else for your shortcomings. You’re in SEC country…..deal with it

Just a little FACT for you so that you won’t sound so ignorant next time… USC played (and beat the crap out of) Nebraska January 1st, 2012, and I think that you are well aware of what happened when USC played UGA a few months ago.
If memory serves me right, UGA was the only SEC team that didn’t win their bowl game last year. Tsk tsk tsk….. Please try not to embarrass the SEC again by losing your bowl game….

So, to all the USC trolls… how many bowl wins will this be if you do win? Is it 6 or 7? That is 6 or 7 bowl wins in school history playing in secondary bowls only. I know that it is the second lowest number of bowl wins except for Vandy in the entire conference. Even Kentucky, the basketball school, has more wins in bowl games. I believe even Vandy has 4. Again, 3 wins in a row against UGA is the greatest thing your football program has ever done in the entire history of USC football. Congrats.

Tech man here. I am sorry to hear about Jenkins. I hope that he does well in the NFL and I hope that he is able to return to UGA and complete his degree.
To all of the trolls, supposedly from my alma mater, I say: show more class. One would think that a degree from our institution would teach you humility and understanding. Mr. Jenkins has talents and abilities that will help him become a productive member of society. What sort of psychological scar do you have that makes you want to denegrate anyone else? Have you forgotten to search for all of the facts before jumping to a conclusion? Have you forgotten all of your lessons on the Flats?
I apologize for the idiots that claim to have GT pedigrees. I wish nothing but the best to UGA and to all of its students. How ever possible, please lend support to Mr Jenkins. It is now that he needs his UGA family the most. Good luck on New Year’s day.

Well, he is supposed to be a College Student. The rules are what they are. If the rules are NOT followed, then what do you have?
Have you considered there is a whole branch of health care called Sports Medicine? Why is that?
Is College Football or College sports in general, just about the money? Career choices? Social status?

lets see child development…hmmmmm sorta like majoring in general studies, you say child development majors must take other classes…bio, sociolgy, economics…etc it’s not the class it’s at what level are the classes you described are child development majors required to take???? chances are the econ course required is on the entry or 100 level. since he went to UGA to play football (instead of academics) you would think he would be smart enuff to major in something usefull like accounting, economics, or finance so if he does make it in the NFL he will not end up broke 3-4 years after he is done playing,,,,no wait to major in something meaning full like business, acct’g, finance, or econ that would mean ole john would havve been required to take upper level or advance courses such as mangerial economics/corp finance/advaced acct’g or auditing. that would have meant “ole john” would have had to study instead of being able to “hang out” or “sleep in”..lets just hope “ole john” does make it to the nfl, if not we will see “ole john” standing around telling anyone/everyone who will listen about “how i did-did almosted mades pro, cause you ben doin, ubba-dubba, eyes be going back to scool to be gettin my degree in da summa time when it be-did warm, so-did eyes can becomes a teacher and be teechin liddle kids hows to talk and count good”

Whoever posted about Tech teaching some class behavior I just haven’t seen it. Trolls on this blog aren’t classy and one of their players just got arrested for theft. I guess he couldn’t hack it in Sports Management.
