No SEC suspension for Bama’s Quinton Dial for hit on Aaron Murray

ATHENS – If Quinton Dial is going to receive any discipline for his illegal hit on Aaron Murray in the SEC Championship game, it’s not going to come from the SEC office.

That was the word Friday as the SEC sent out a short news release stating that it had reviewed several plays from the Dec. 1 matchup between Georgia and Alabama and that it would be leaving punishments decisions to the respective schools. In addition to Dial’s hit on Murray at the end of a first-half interception, Georgia’s Sheldon Dawson appears on video to be trying to gouge the eyes of Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner at the end of a kickoff return. Also, Bulldogs’ linebacker Alec Ogletree was flagged during the game for a “targeting” hit on Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.

“The Southeastern Conference has completed its review of video from the 2012 SEC Football Championship Game. Several plays involving both teams were reviewed. After review, all subsequent action will be handled internally by the two institutions and the conference office is satisfied with their actions.”

Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity declined comment but said he would include a statement when the school sends out its own news release later today.

SEC coordinator of officials Steve Shaw told a Birmingham radio station earlier today that both schools took disciplinary action. He told a Birmingham newspaper on Dec. 3 that officials missed calling Dial for a personal foul during the game. Shaw hasn’t returned messages seeking comment from the AJC.

The 304-pound Dial led with his head and left his feet to hit Murray, who was out of the play, in the helmet and shoulder pads after Murray threw an interception in the second quarter of Alabama’s 32-28 win.

hahahahah……………You think we believe that you are really an official? Annette parks dad was an SEC official for 20 something years. I have heard stories but never have I seen where the refs intentionally check their morals in the locker room before a game. You will have to give proof to what you are saying.

Are there any Dawg fans blogging that were proud that Georgia made it to the “Big Game”? Evidently not! All I’m reading is about Dial’s supposedly illegal hit on Murrary, Georgia’s last stand on the 5 yard line, how dirty Ala. is, how Saban doesn’t discipline, and how the SEC favors Ala. Looking real close at the video of Dial’s hit, it looks like his shoulder pads hit Murray’s shoulder first(evidently that’s what the SEC saw). If the player caught the ball on the 5 yard line and kept his footing he still wouldn’t have made it to the endzone. If Dial’s hit had drawn a penalty, you would not want to be in Dial’s shoes when he met Saban on the sideline. Saban doesn’t teach dirty he teaches discipline and losing 15 yards by penalty would not sit well with Saban. Give Richt, Murray, and the Bulldogs credit for playing their way into the game and having a chance to win with 10 seconds left. They did beat the number 3 team in the country and lost to the number 2 team(maybe the National Champions) Since I’m a fan of Georgia and Alabama it didn’t matter who won the chance to kick ND’s Butt.

Fox made a bad call but now Overtime. Fox get the guys thinking.
UGa had ball shot clock off and took a bad with 16 seconds left. That was bad coaching. Call the TO and set a play to win.

The loss to IONA is all on FOX not managing the last 30 seconds of regulation.
UGa made like 20 free throws but missed about 16.

when will the ga fans get over this? sure it was a missed call, but that doesn’t change the fact that we got our tails handed to us once again. i am a dawg fan living in b’ham since 1974 and have listened to bammers and tigers, except for one three year period put down the dawgs. when will we realize that for the most part Ga. has been , mediocre at best. they do from time to time come out and play up to what we expect but be honest, is it on a consistant basis. that’s why spurrier loved to play us. i don’t know if mark is the coach we need, there have been a lot of victories but against who? look at our record against ranked teams. we just don’t measure up

If that wasn’t a dirty play then there is no such animal. SEC commissioners are in bed with Saban. Politics rears it’s ugly head.

Tom parish “got our tails handed to us.” Are you kidding me did you watch the game? It was a hard faught game between two good teams. It came down to the final seconds with less then 6 yards to go. If you can really sit there and say that you need clinical help. It was the best game played in college football so far this year. The dial hit was cheap. Did it effect the game? No. All an all im proud of what we accomplished. All any GA fan should be focused on right now is wiping the floor with Nebraska

the irish will destroy QD and Bama. The irish will not let a “cheap shot artist” get away with this Bama way of winning by destroying a player fron the blind side. So mr dial fasten your seat belts your fanny is about to have a bumpy ride. You need to hide and run away when the iRISH TURN THEIR BACK. I bet you do not know what any of your rivals face looks like, Mr. Cheap Shot.

I doubt seriously the irish will destroy bama. They are a good team. I have a feeling it will be the exact opposite. I dislike bama but love the sec. So considering that and the face that bama winning would make UGA look even better you have to pull for them in the NCG.

Typical SEC crap!! If the SEC commission doesn’t have the ball to suspend this THUG then the NCAA should. SEC is more concerned with winning the NC game than doing what is right. This is a reply of AU 2-yrs ago.

WHAT A JOKE THE SEC COMMISSION IS.

Still confused. Murray threw an intereception. Thus, Bama was on offense and UGA was on defense. Bama was running with the ball and Murray was in the vicinity of this. The Bama player blocked Murray. This is totally fair as I see it.

UGA = Yawn, Obviously you haven’t studied the replay. Dial changed direction and targeted Murray’s head so as to try and take him out of the game. Reports are coming from the Alabama campus that Dial is bragging and laughing about the hit. He would be singing a different tune (I would hope) if Murray was laying in a hospital room paralyzed from a broken neck. Nobody likes a dirty program that cheats. I’m praying for a ND upset to embarass the Tide nation or any other type of karma that might come Bama’s way in the future. Karma took a big swat at Auburn after all of Fairley’s and company dirty plays and cheap shots and it couldn’t have been more well deserved.
