Georgia guard Dallas Lee (64) offers a forced smile for a photo with brother Dillon Lee in the minutes immediately after the Bulldogs' 32-28 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. (Photo by Rob Saye)
ATHENS — Dallas Lee’s parents have begged him to go with them to Miami for the BCS National Championship game. But if Georgia’s starting left guard couldn’t go as a participant, he said he definitely wasn’t going to go as supportive brother.
“I’m still a little upset so I’m not going,” Dallas said. “I’m going to watch it on TV at the house. I’m a little too upset about it to go down there and have fun.”
Lee’s family was the subject of many profiles heading into the SEC Championship as Dallas and his brother, Alabama linebacker Dillon Lee, were facing off from opposite sidelines. But after that game ended excruciatingly close for the Bulldogs, with time running out on the at the Crimson Tide 5 in a 32-28 loss, Dallas said he just can’t bring himself to go to Miami.
Of course, Lee will be with the Bulldogs at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando for eight days. Lee is scheduled to return to Atlanta on Jan. 2. The title game between Alabama and Notre Dame is on Jan. 7.
“I mean, I’m already going to be in Florida for like a week and a half,” Dallas said. “When my game is over, my parents come home like only a day, and then they’re going back down to Miami two or three days before the game. That just sounds exhausting, to get back on a plane and go back.”
Besides, Lee said he still hasn’t fully recovered from the disappointment of losing the SEC title game.
“The end of the game was terrible, to know that we were that close,” he said. “We were busy blocking; I didn’t even know the clock was running out. When we looked before we got in our stance there was like 15 seconds left. I got done blocking and confetti was popping and they were running on the field. I was confused; I didn’t know what happened because I was blocking off to the left. I had to watch it the next day to find out what happened. It was terrible.”
Dillon and Dallas met briefly at midfield and they posed for a picture for freelance photographer Rob Saye. But it was a somewhat awkward moment, Allas said.
“I told him to have fun in Miami and beat Notre Dame; that was about all I could think of,” Dallas said. “He was looking kind of sad. I was like, “enjoy it. SEC Championships are hard to come by.” I was like, “don’t feel bad for me. Enjoy it for your team.’ We knew one of us had to have a crappy day.”
As it turned out, the freshman Dillon did not play any for the Crimson Tide that day. Dallas is hoping for a rematch next year.
“Seeing my brother was cool,” he said. “Hopefully next year he can be playing so we can hit each other and that will be even more fun.”

Dallas, I hope that your relationships with your younger brother and your family — who obviously love you very much — are more important than ANYTHING to do with football. Life is short and from the info in this article ( which is all that I have to base this comment on), it looks like you’re very blessed. Go with your family and support your brother — my guess is that he would most likely do that for you … …

If his brother was getting playing time, my opinion would have been to suck it up and go. Family before football. But I’m sure after the Capital One bowl he will be ready for a break. I don’t blame him since his brother isn’t playing much (if at all?)

I hope every SEC team dominates their bowl game! And, I hope ‘Bama is up on Notre Dame 45-0 with the ball at Notre Dame’s five yard line with two seconds lerft, and Saban calls a timeout so they can score again. N.D. is the most overrated team in the country…..at least four (UGA, ‘Bama, Florida, and South Carolina or LSU) could wipe them out! Remember when they were supposed to be so good and Jamarcus Russell (Lord help us) picked them apart? They have not faces SEC speed. Whoop ‘em good, ‘Bama, and makes us all look good!

That’s right – if you the state for the enemy – you no longer exist in my book. Have 3 more sweet years as a backup and fade in mediocrity. Dallas will be a part of DAWG history and a member of the Dawg family for ever……. and you? No one in Georgia cares.

Right duh, I’m sure that’s how people in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Texas feel about Aaron Murray, A.J. Green, Todd Gurley, Keith Marshall and Matt Stafford. As a representative of the worst of Dawg Nation, do you also regard those guys as traitors for leaving their home states to play for UGA?

If I was his father, it would have never, ever, ever, had an inkling, theory, or hypothesis, let alone the balls, to invite my son to this game. Talk about asking you to continue to rub more salt in the wound. This should have been initiated by Dallas, not the other way around. Dallas and Dillon’s personal relationship has absolutely nothing to do with football. DUH!!! But for now, Dallas is with his football family, his tribe, his clan. They can do the family thing during the off season.

I wanted the DAWGS to beat Bama, but you lost 2 weeks ago. I was upset that my Gators lost to you Dawgs. I will not blame it on the 6 turnovers because you simply beat us. I was over it by the Monday after the game. Yes, it is just a “game” played by guys from 18-22 years old. UGA had breaks in the game as did Bama. The fact is that Bama won. Get ‘em the next time you play them. If ya’ll keep grieving a porr team like Nebraska may beat you. We cannot have a team of Nebraska’s ability beat an SEC team like UGA. Let’s get over it and start your “woofing” again.

You Georgia fans that root for the SEC in bowl games are pathetic… how does UGA benefit from our rivals winning national titles? We don’t. SEC head coaches recruit the same players Mark Richt does, and it doesn’t help UGA when rival coaches recruit these players with multiple rings on their fingers.
You won’t catch me rooting for florida, auburn or alabama.

Graduated before most of you were born. Clearly understand that to be the “top” in the SEC, must beat Alabama. Remember 1966, I think? Doctor said I might be hiding my on easter eggs next year. Alabama is not as good this year as in past years. Don’t think Notre Dame is as good as everybody thinks they are. We will find out next year. Think Dallas made the right decision. UGA with Murray at QB will never win the big game.
ALL SEC teams agreed with me. He’ll, Johnny Football, the Heisman Frosh handled Bama.
Murray is a nice kid and a so.lid student but he is not a SEC CG winner. He has been twice and failed.
UGA needs a heady QB that can throw it well BUT he can MANAGE a powerful ground attack. Until CMR grasps the fact that POWERFUL O lines and great backs can win,UGA will always be a brides maid.

I think we’re getting things all backwards. The time to show this type grit and emotion is before and during the game. If anyone deserves this type alienation, it should be the defensive coaches. They couldn’t stop the run all year long with some of the best athletes in the universe. It’s a game and it’s over and it wasn’t really that close. Bama whipped both lines.

Dallas, appreciate the effort you gave all year long, and with all due respect, the game was not lost (or won) on the last play. If you ask me, we lost when our QB was sacked on 1st down on our previous possession. I bet you know what happened on THAT play, don’t you.
After Bama scored to make it 32-28, we got the ball back with plenty o time (3:15 left) and two timeouts, but we went 3-and-out. The Bama sacker came thru the LG hole, so please don’t act like it was something someone else did. The whole team wins or the whole team loses. It never comes down to one play by one player.
