Georgia's Ken "Boo" Malcome does not begrudge the success of Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall but is not happy with getting mainly mop-up duty in Georgia's tailback rotation. (UGA photo)
ATHENS – For Georgia it’s a good problem to have. But for Ken Malcome, it’s more than a little frustrating.
Everybody knows about the successes of freshman tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall this season. Gurley was named a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News on Thursday. He became just the second Georgia true freshman to surpass 1,000 yards in a season (1,260 to date) and scored 17 touchdowns, including a 100-yard kickoff return. Marshall emerged as Gurley’s primary backup and ran for 723 yards and 8 scores.
Lost in the smoke of that fire has been Malcome, who actually began the season as the starting tailback. The redshirt sophomore from Decatur has appeared in 10 of the Bulldogs’ 13 games, averaging 27.2 yards and 5 carries in those contests.
As Georgia prepares for its Jan. 1 date with Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl, Malcome is not sure what his future is with the team or in football in general.
“I’m not too happy with that situation,” Malcome said following Georgia’s practice Thursday afternoon. “But like I said to the coaches, I’m a player and I’m going to do what they tell me to. I’ve got two more years of football, then I don’t know. We’re going to see what happens. . . . I’m not sure at all what I’m going to do.”
Malcome has been down this road before. He actually left the team for one day in 2011 when freshman Isaiah Crowell emerged as the primary ball-carrier and his opportunities dried up midway through the season. Malcome returned at the behest of coach Mark Richt and exhibited a better attitude the rest of the season. He ended the year as the Bulldogs’ leading rusher over the final four games of the season.
Of course, Crowell was dismissed following a mid-summer arrest and Malcome became the starter by default. But Gurley and Marshall bypassed Malcome on the depth chart by the second week of this season.
“I can’t fault them,” Malcome said of his freshman backfield mates. “What they’re doing on the field, it doesn’t affect anything off the field. I’m still going to take them around with me, we’re still going to sit and eat together. . . . It’s just playing time.”
Malcome said he understands and respects the talent of the underclassmen. He simply feels he hasn’t been utilized enough in the rotation.
“I don’t have to start,” he said. “I don’t mind sharing carries. I just want to contribute to winning like I know I can. Coming in in the last minute when nobody really cares with all freshman linemen that haven’t developed yet, they’re putting me in situations where I can’t really help myself.”
Malcome’s role has been to play in the final minutes of games in which the outcome has been decided. His most productive game of the year was five carries for 45 yards in the 35-7 loss to South Carolina. His long run was 30 yards in the 48-3 win over Vanderbilt. He’s averaging 4.8 yards per carry, to 6.3 for Gurley and 6.6 for Marshall.
His teammates empathize.
“He’s been through a lot,” said Gurley, who leads the Bulldogs with 17 touchdowns. “As far as us being his teammates, we check on him and just treat on him like we would one of our family members. We’re together. . . . The whole 9running backs) meeting room, guys have been saying it’s been the best all year.”
Georgia’s coaches were recruiting and not available for interviews Thursday.
Meanwhile, Malcome said he’s in the best shape of his life. He’s up to 232 pounds and simply believes he has more to offer.
“I’ve talked to them a couple of times,” Malcome said of the coaching staff. “I’m not going to get into what they say. What me and Coach talk about is confidential. But basically . . . I don’t stand toe-to-toe with what they say. I told myself, ‘I’m just going to try to do good every time I get a chance.’”

Wish we ran him up the middle and Marshall on the edges when girly gets a rest. I wish we used Marshall like a Reggie bush and used him in backfield at same time as our big backs. But its not bobo’s way to be creative. But I hope boo can get a few touches when its 3rd and 1. Go Dawgs!!!

When you work hard at something, good things happen to you in life (i.e. Gurly & Marshall), but when you don’t, don’t expect anything other than average. You have been at UGA 2 yrs now, the first year was your attitude & work ethic problem, so you decided to quit the team, then you wanted to come back. So tell me again now, just who’s fault is it concerning your playing time? Certainly, it can’t be YOURS!!!!!! That’s the problem with society now, it’s ALWAYS somebody else’s fault!!!!!! Take your “wet blanket with you when you leave!”

Malcome has been coddled enough. Bottom line is if he were deserving of more PT, he would be getting it. He runs tough when called upon, but his talent level is not even half as good as Gurley’s and Marshall’s and their attitudes are better as well. If you want more PT, then try harder, or transfer to an FCS school and split time, if not then shut up already. We need more attitudes like Gurley, Marshall, Jarvis Jones, Richard Samuel, etc. All these prima donnas have to go.

Malcome is very important to the DAWGS running back corps. He’s just one snap away from an injury that would put him in the game all the time. Both Gurley and Marshall bring speed to the backfield while Malcome brings power. He’s just as good in short yardage situations as Gurley and should be given the chance.
Hang in there, Ken! There’s plenty of playing time for you yet! Keep your bond with Gurley and Marshall. Hang together, the DAWGS need all of you!!

Gurley is fantastic, but Marshall deserves more carries. He is just as good, and actually averages more yards per carry.
I guess the coaches think he is more of a liability when it comes to ball security.
Anyway, I admire Malcome’s stance. I would be frustrated too, but the kid is doing the work and ready to contribute to the team however he can. That’s not just a solid football player, that’s a man.

Word I’d always heard on him was that he was a malcontent for so long that he sort of soured coaches on him. So they didn’t count on him much this season.
That being said, if it’s true, everyone deserves second chances, and I loved the burst we saw out of him when he’d get to carry the rock. He might’ve been a difference-maker for us vs. SC earlier in that game; but we’ll never know.
I wish him the best, but I think he’ll explore transfer options.

How do the rb’s do vs. ranked teams, good rush defenses?
Malcome got 9 ypc vs. South Carolina in 2012, 7.4 ypc vs. LSU in 2011. That;s BIG TIME BALLIN.
Marshall? 3 ypc vs. South Carolina, 1 ypc vs. Florida, 1.5 ypc vs. Bama. NOT Big time ballin.

I agree with Frodo. I think Malcome should be second in the rotation before Marshall. Not to say he’s better than Marshall, but he is definitely a tougher runner inside. Marshall should be more of a 3rd and long type back, especially as a freshman. Malcome is one of those guys that ALWAYS falls forward. I have been wondering all year why Malcome wasn’t getting more meaningful carries. Of course, from my perspective, I don’t know anything about attitudes, practice habits, etc. I hope he gets more opportunities though.

Well old Bobo said he wanted to go with one back vs ALabama. This did not give Marshall a chance to possibly break one the distance because he was so stubborn. This has the smell of another Samuel situation. When we get into two tight ends motion the wing back stop behind the tackle and lead the FB up behind the WB and step back six yards to Gurley to try to get a third and one….and do not make it….it is not the players…. Alabama spread the receivers had their back in the backfield move the defense away from the stacked position and just handed off the ball to the back as he ran by the qb…well he scored the two point extra points from three yards. There was no reason n the alabama game not to give Marshall a chance or malcomb a chance to bust for a first down or for an even longer distance. We have so many receivers in and out of the lineup they are always ready to succeed. Now we are tending to go to a one back situation and have basically some great backs sitting on the bench again because of bobo’s stubbornness. Would you not have liked for Marshall to have a chance to break on the distance….Well you may be right Bobo would have probably run him up the middle for a short yard situation….. I wonder what the Henry’s and other great backs of this years hs teams are thinking about the situation at UGA. Poor choice not to use Marshall and Malcomb in the UA game.

Boss, did not Gurley play in those games too? We will never know if Marshall can run vs an Alabama because of the stubbornness of Bobo. That kind of philosophy will ruin GA in the future with Good Running backs. What happened to the Henry kid that was committed to GA…He committed with Ala who has three of the top five rb recruits plus are in the mix for the kid from Norcross too. We now have one back due to the attitude of Bobo.

It is not about playing time or starting. It is about a philosophy that is mixed…How many different receivers get on the field? and how many running backs got on the field vs AL. How many times did anyone except Gurley get to run the ball…This is opposite of what GA did early in the year. This thing about Marshall getting his yards vs lesser teams does not hunt.. GURLEY RAN THE BALL IN THOSE GAMES also…….As the defense knows GA will not run the FB except once in a month they do not have to worry too much about the FB so they key on the RB…

I understand and admire his point of view. If he doesn’t want to play, he shouldn’t be there. This shows he does want to play, and be productive for the team. We seem to have had several in recent years that had quite a bit of talent that either didn’t want to play, or were playing for themselves. I want all the DAWGS to have an “I WANT TO PLAY AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM” attitude. Some of them simply aren’t talented enough, but a strong desire can only help the team!

I admire a man or young man in this case who believes in himself and his talents and is willing to speak up. With that said, you don’t gain any favor with your boss or in this case, the coaching staff, by going public with it and putting it out there in the media. That creates dissention and divisiveness. Should he be man enough to visit with the coaches about it? Sure he should. Then you go out and prove yourself in practice each and every day and keep your mouth shut around other teammates and especially the media. I may be wrong in this but I think Brian McClendon, his position coach, decides more who gets in the game once the game is ongoing. The O.C. (Bobo) and Richt establish the game plan but McClendon has a lot to say about the rotation and who goes in once the game gets started. I do believe Boo has a lot of talent and should be playing more with the first and second team linemen, especially in short yardage situations.

Malcome is in the unfortunate position of being behind 2 younger, more productive RB’s. The clock is ticking on his NCAA eligibility and I am sure he wants to get on the field. The problem for Malcome is that he and Todd are similar types of backs in that they run mainly for power (Gurley obviously being better and a lot faster). Coaches typically like to rotate running backs that have contrasting styles, with Marshall being a homerun threat. Malcome could be getting less playing time for that reason or because he got in the coaches’ doghouse. He was suspended for one game last season if anyone forgot.

Marlon Brown and Michael Bennett are NFL talent and were really missed in the Bama game. If they had been available there is no way Bama could have defended the 4 wide out formation. UGA has no backups with the talent to replace Marlon and Tavarres in 2013. Expect more run and less pass in 2013 – especially if Murray turns pro. Malcolme will get his chance to play more in 2013 if the defense can stop the run and I think they will be O.K. there IF they get Adams. Taylor is young but very talented at NT. Bama petty much used two backs this year also.

When they are being pushed around by a tough d line then you need guys who can make a no gainer into 3 or 4 yards. From what I’ve seen that’s gurley and malcome. Crowell’s attitude and self centered ways spread when he was at Georgia and Malcome embraced it by not practicing hard and fumbled more than Richt was comfortable with. Then when Crowell only could go half a game Georgia needed someone to step up and Samuel’s and Smith got the nod over Malcome because Malcome acted like Crowell had the answer and wanted to support Crowell. After Crowell left Malcome realized he only had a short time to prove he deserved playing time ahead of Marshall and Gurley but Malcome was not in good enough shape to prove anything. Marshall came in early and Gurley started in the Summer playing their butt off. No childish BS and doing everything that Richt asked them to do. Malcome had TWO years to get the play book down and get strong and Conditioned before Marshall and Gurley even got to Georgia. Gurley is hard to tackle and has great speed in the open field and Marshall hit’s the holes faster than any running back . Then when he does break out in the open field, has sprinter speed.
Malcome has done a great job in 2012 getting Conditioned and learning to hold onto the ball but still doesn’t have the attitude even though he is trying and doesn’t have the speed or tackle breaking ability of Gurley or the quick burst hitting the holes that Marshall has. Unless Marshall or Gurley get hurt Malcome will be 3RD string if he stay’s at Georgia but needs to stay ready in case he is needed. At least Malcome can be proud of himself for realizing he was at Georgia to play Football and it was going to take hard work to get Conditioned to be able to run against SEC competition even if it was two years late and understand he had FIRST shot as the starter and use Marshall and Gurley as the role models types instead of what he brought to Georgia for two years.

Malcome just needs to know his roll and keep his head down and keep grinding. He’ll get PT, but the fact of the matter is he doesn’t hold a candle to Gurley, and he is no where near being the homerun threat Marshall is. These are facts. If he wants to start and be the primary back, then he will have to transfer. I can understand Malcome wants to play more but quite honestly, this is the type of ME attitude that caused all the drama the past 3 years- He already left the team once- I think he needs to make a decision he is either part of this team or not. we cant afford anymore players with the ME ME ME attitude…….

Spurrier is 67 years old and won’t be around when this next group of recruits finish school. SC has seen its best days. UT and AU are trainwrecks trying to rebuild. UGA has evened things up in Jacksonville. UGA will always handle the out of conference schools…..your Fla. Atlantics, Ga Techs, Buffalos, etc. Recruiting is going great and could be one of the best groups ever. The future has not looked this good in Athens since #34 was there.
As for Ken Malcome, he is one injury from significant playing time. Never quit in life or take the path of least resistance. However, if he decides to leave, someone will gladly take his place.

Boo needs to keep working hard and win his playing time the old fashioned way, by moving the sticks. I’m a big fan of Malcome, but he needs to look at Ealey and Crowell, and a number of other “great” athletes, and ask himself if going to another school really solves his problems. Terrell Davis only had what, less than 100 total carries at UGA because he backed up Hearst while he was here? He went on to be a pretty good NFL RB! Get in the weight room and add muscle and explosiveness and come back and run harder than Trent Richardson next year and you will be fine. UGA is a great stage for RB talent. I would be extremely reluctant to leave it, personally. Gurley and Marshall have been phenomenal, but that doesn’t take away from Boo’s future.

Also, everybody who plays Div I College Football are not going to be an NFL athlete, you can become a coach, trainer, agent, or sports media person, the possibilities are endless, and you can make a lot of money doing it.

“Marlon Brown and Michael Bennett are NFL talent and were really missed in the Bama game. If they had been available there is no way Bama could have defended the 4 wide out formation.”
flo-ri-duh is always quick with the excuses. Alabama lost wide receivers Chris Black (freshman said to be about as good as Amari Cooper) with a shoulder injury before the season and DeAndrew White (ACL) and Kenny Bell (ACL) during the season. All were in the two deep rotation when they went down. Alabama also lost running backs Jalston Fowler (who was also playing at H-back) and Dee Hart for the year with torn ACLs. And they still put up over 500 yards and 32 points on the self proclaimed best defense in the country.
Malcome should keep his mouth shut and transfer to a smaller school after the season. Richt and Bobo didn’t trust Marshall to play much against Alabama, likely because he isn’t physical enough and they feared he would put the ball on the ground. If they were ever going to use Malcome in a game when it mattered that would have been the game to do it. Richt and Bobo better bring in another physical back or two who will be ready to play if Gurley goes down.

Need I remind you brainiacs that think you know it all that earlier in the season the complaint was not giving the ball to Gurley enough. We ran the ball pretty decently against a stout run defense… probably alot better than most Bama fans thought we could. All your second guessing is beyond stupid. Marshall had some carries and he didn’t produce. It’s about production. Gurley produced… just about the same as he did against UF. Give it a rest folks…

Arian Foster should have never returned for his senior season and that cost him being drafted. Malcome will more than likely be added to the long list of UGA RBs that leave school for one reason or another.

Also your style is more suited to the elite SEC defenses and nfl then the faster guys who make plays in the ncaa. Crimson Tide… gloat all you want but who damned near lost the game anyway? Yep…that’s right…mighty Bama. You couldn’t run out the clock on the Dawg’s defense when you had to bud. That is fact. Your mighty Crimson Tide was a finger tip away from wondering how they couldn’t get to the BCS after running the ball so well. 350 yards doesn’t mean squat when you lose and you escaped by a fingertip. All you fair weather UGA fans, just think about that as well. A fluke play ended the game. Bama should have won going away but the Dawgs kept fighting and damned near won the game anyway. I don’t think any other team could have even come close. A&M caught Bama flat footed, the Dawgs got their best and that almost wasn’t enough.

Boo is not a prima donna and doesn’t have a sense of entitlement. I can think of a couple of times in goal line situations where we could have used his tough running instead of getting stonewalled and settling for a FG (which wasn’t a given all year, and let’s not even talk about the point after). His progression from last year to this year is pretty substantial. I’m not saying his better than Gurely or even Marshall, but Boo is a damn good ball player and always falls forward. Almost 5 YPC is nothing to laugh at. I guarantee those are all hard fought yards between the tackles.

He would probably be better off, going to another school. He wants to start and I don’t see that happening when he is behind two more athletically gifted runners at his position. He would probably get some good playing time at an FCS school, or even possibly another FBS school, but barring injuries or some other major problem, he is not going to see that field often with these two freshmen that are presently on the team, and if UGA should land Kamara, he would most likely move even further down in the pecking order.
He should devote time to studying and get a degree, as I don’t see a bright future for him at the professional level, at this point. I am sure he does his best but he is in a bad situation at his position so he just needs to transfer or accept the fact that he will not see a lot of action on the playing field.
Complaining about it to a reporter isn’t going to change the situation for him on the team, and he could end up being a distraction more than anything else.

I believe with Aaron Murray likely going to the NFL next season and Hutson Mason taking over at the helm, Mike Bobo will need to shift the balanced offensive attack to more of a “run first” offense.
So what better than to have THREE stallions rotating in to carry the load: Gurley, Marshall, and Malcolm.
Malcolm has proven to be a valuable running back during games. We NEED him.
I just can’t believe that Bobo can’t find a way to rotate all three running backs into the game.

I’ll say this: Gurley is by FAR the most talented RB at UGA… one of the best in CFB. Marshall does have break-away speed– when he gets through the line and is able to do so, but as far as breaking tackles he doesn’t get it done. In my opinion, there’s was definetly playing time promised to the nations #1 RB recruit before he ever set foot on the football field. Ask yourself this: Gurley was the nations #9 RB recruit, and Marshall was the nations #1 RB recruit; Now, what would we have said about the coaching staff if they would have only gonoe after Marshall & Gurley would have ended up at Florida, Alabama or AU? I believe everyone would be disapointed in Marshall if he was trying to carry the load without Gurely. As far as Malcome, I believe he’s a better RB than Marshall. Not as fast, but he gains the ‘hard’ yards that Marshall can’t. So yes, I be pissed too.

I am sure all of the UGA coaches are excited to know that all of the running back issues have been solved by a group of wizzards that constantly find negative issues with any and everything the UGA coaches decide. The last time I looked UGA was 11-1. No BS about the schedule, they played the schedule given by the SEC. Just like they will go back to Auburn to years in a row. As for the SECC game if the ball is not tiped and Mitchel catches a back sholder throw touchdown then the decission not to spike the ball would be great. Boy you clowns really amaze me. When is the first time any of you coached period. If this; if that ;maybe this ; maybe that. I can assure you there are 125 teams that would have killed to be in UGA’s position in the SECC win or lose. BMOC,
I think Marshall hits the holes when they are there faster than even Gurley does. Although he is not a knock them on their butt runner, once he gets through the hole created, he can take it down the field very fast. Malcome can knock them around, though not as well as Gurley, but in the numbers game, he will be 3rd string as long as Gurley and Marshall are playing for UGA.
I’ll take the combination of a fast, tough Gurley and a speedster like Marshall, any time, if the alternative is having Gurley with Malcome coming in to give Gurley a rest. Both od the freshmen just have more athletic ability than Malcome, and in the numbers game, he is the odd man out. I think he tries his best, but it is hard to beat a kid, with so much God given talent, let alone two of them on your team.
I see some saying he should switch to full back, but that is also a loaded position at UGA right now, so he would probably not do any better there at that position. He is just in a bad situation at RB, but I think UGA has the right tandem at the moment at RB, and with any luck, they will pick up another top of the line recruit for 2013, making it even harder for Malcome to get playing time. It is no knock against Malcome; He is simply not as athletically gifted as those in front of him.

Hmmm, I’m a little torn about this. I too have never understood why the coaches don’t utilize Malcome more. ESPECIALLY last year. I do think Gurley and Marshall are better, but Boo runs hard and hasn’t fumbled since his freshmen year as far as I can tell.
But on the other hand, you don’t gripe to the media about this. You suck it up, work hard, and earn it on the field. This is why competetion is a good thing. If one of those freshmen go down with an injury, your all of a sudden really relied upon.
I know the coaches wont get into it, but I’d really like to have a private conversation with an offensive coach to find out why they don’t let Boo carry the rock more.

All coaches are recruiting with promises of NFL contracts, which are predicated on statistics. This is one reason that starting players everywhere remain in blow-out games into the fourth quarter. It’s a shame that back-up players don’t get more playing time. NFL teams don’t seem to care if a player comes from the SEC or a Little Sisters of the Poor team. If Malcome wants to play in the NFL, he should find a team where he can play regularly. He is not going to beat out either Gurley or Marshall at UGA, and whining to the press isn’t going to help.

I would play the hot hand too, but let them all get a crack at it. Boo pushes the pile and runs hard between the tackles, I’ve seen him do it many times.

None of us know the situation in the mind of the coaches. Coach Richt and the crew seem like they’d give anyone a fair shot, but we don’t really know for sure. I’ve seen coaches sour on a player and it doesn’t matter if they dominate in practice all day long, they’re not gonna play because the coach doesn’t want to give him the opportunity to succeed. I’ve seen many grown men act like little girls on a power trip. Happens all the time. But having said that, I have a feeling that Richt and his crew are willing to give everyone a fair shot. Hopefully Boo will see that he can easily end up with significant carries with one traumatic injury. Please look at the second half of S. Carolina’s season when Lattimore went out. All of a sudden some guys that got less carries than Boo because significant contributors. If Boo can’t win the starting job, be a backup that is one play away from becoming a starter. If that’s not enough, then win the starting job. If you feel the coaches won’t allow that to happend, or that’s too much work, then transfer to a better situation for you. Boo’s in a tough situation. He’s a tough runner up the middle yet he doesn’t show that one or two moves that would allow him to break it and go all the way or for longer gains like Gurshall has done in games. His stock would rise if he did show power plus moves to break a few long ones. I think if he does he’s #2, behind Gurley. What a one 2 punch that would be. My guess though is he’ll transfer for playing time at another school. I hope he has success where ever he ends up and also after football.

N.TX, UT(new coach, no players), Mizz (way less talent), Vandy (private school, way less talent), APP St., Aub (new coach, no players), UK (new coach, never any players) or Ga Tech ( the school that gets the players UGA doesn’t want). Again I say WAKE UP!

It’s not going to get better if you already have two freshman starting in front of you and your coaches are recruiting another big class. At some point you have to say I’m being caged up here so that I won’t go to competitor and play. The test is this: is the coaching staff playing me enough to develop me therefore they expect me to play at some point?

The only good solution for him is too play better that 3 and 4. That puts him on the field more.

It’s amazing some fans spoke so positively about Malcome’s exploits after he filled in last year, but now he is not good enough…May be the other backs have more talent but don’t act like Malcome can’t compete!

Malcome should of been in the South Carolina game!!! The young back are more talented. The veteran backs should of been involved this season, especially on pass blocking situations. We needed some veterans on certain plays. You have to play the best players. There are players on every college team that do not get past the scout team. If Boo Malcome wants to start, he needs to transfer somewhere else. Maybe he will get to start. If he has 2 more years, he can get up enough stats to get a shot at the pros. There have been Rbs from Uga that barely started that had good careers in the pros. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP MALCOME AND THANKS FOR STAYING. THERE IS THE NFL. THERE IS COACHING. Richard Samuel is a DGD, also. You have to get guys like this on the field. They have put in the work. Samuel won the Fl game last year. I’m not complaining about Gurley and Marshall. They are good!!! We get better blocking next season, and they will be great.

I think Boo will be ok. He may not be a starter. He will get enough stats in 2 more yrs to go pro. Like I said, someone could get hurt. Look what happened to SC’s rb. This is a physical game.

Bobo is a scapegoat. Our ineptitude vs South Carolina had a lot more to do with Kenarious Gates, John Theus, and David Andrews getting taken to SCHOOL by SCs DL than Bobo’s deficiencies as a coordinator. Look back through the years, even in 2009 and 2010 we were putting points. The underrated problem for Georgia over the last 5 years has been wild inconsistantcy by the defense.

Malcome and Samuel should of been in the SC game for atleast protection. Gurley is not that good at pass protection. SC game was pathetic.. CMR and Bobo should of had veterans in a big game like the SC one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I love Malcome’s effort, I have the same problem with him I had with Washaun Ealey. Every time he gets more than 3 yards downfield I cringe and pray he doesn’t inexplicably drop the ball.

This is an issue that the coaches have caused…theres a way to motivate and teach the kids where they don’t think that way…of course its gotta be frustrating, but he def shouldnt be saying that to the media, u think thats gonna help with recruiting RBs? or in the locker room?

Too many ME ME ME players that wouldn’t get all the Playing Time they thought they would and it would cause problems. It looks like all the dWags fans and players can do is CRY CRY CRY about one thing or another.
Too many Big Time players with the Nice guy RICHT will always breed issues of playing time.

I’m getting sick of hearing people talking about how Marshall has to get more play time in these big games. I’m sorry but against a stout D I want Gurley to get 20 touches before I even think about Marshall
Against S. Carolina, Florida, and Alabama Marshall averaged 2.4 yards per carry with a long of 9 and NO TDs
In those same games Gurley had 4.4 ypc with a long of 23 and 3 TDs

I might leave too if they started Crowell over me. What a slap in the face. But Gurley and Marshall? No brainer. They’d play ahead of 95% of the backs in the country.

@kybodawg…. Bobo dont rotate backs? Do you not see the split of yards between the 3 backs? Bama’s backs stats for the season are almost identical. 2 main backs then a 3rd with identical yards as Malcolm….how bout know what youre talking about instead of just making stuff up and hating on your OC and team…..hater. You are the type of fan that UGA fans wish would go climb under a rock and never come bck out

BamaBabe, recruits know the deal. Youre good enough or youre not and they also no Gurley wont be at UGA much longer and their time will shortly come after a redshirt season…..same as at most all big schools. Same at yours. Recruits know the depth chart more than anyone so it coming out in the press is irreleant. They know it upside down and backward. ANY back who is not getting a lot of carries wants more but you have to be the best and everybody cant be the best….this is not news. It would be news if he didnt want more carries….could Malcom be used more? Sure but who would you rather give the ball too? Gurley, Marshall or Mitchell? The backups at Bama didnt get anymore yards than Malcolm….and Bama rushes a lot more than UGA so that is even worse for their backups….

@ Columbus – I agree with what you’re saying, but the reality is we are talking about kids, and somehow, those championship rings make it a lot easier to swallow being on the bench. look at the kid from gainesville, ga that played qb. got switched to rb at bama, still doesn’t get on the field, but somehow he seems happy everytime i see him. i know kenyan drake personally, and i know how bas he wants to be on the field, but again, he’ll look at me and say coach “I’m a champion”!.

CMR said “we just ran out of time”. Chuck Oliver had to come out and apologize. Everyone that loses somehow ran out of time. I remember playing my uncle in Bball as a kid, if we played to 10 by 1, when he got to 10, I wanted to play to 15, when he got to 15, I wanted to play to 20. See my point. Contrary to what most think. I am a UGA man, but we have to wake up!

A lot of ppl on this blog assume that b/c Ken Malcome is not playing, (1) he’s not working hard at practice, or (2) his attitude is a problem. This is not always true.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Ken is working just as hard as those freshmen. Maybe even harder. If he started the season as the starter, the coaches must have liked what they saw. However, sometimes hard work is not enough to make you successful at a certain place. Particually at a top 10 school like GA. You have to have superior talent.
I hope he transfers and finds another team that fits his style. He obviously enjoys the game and is working hard. He just needs a better fit. Transferring doesn’t make him a quitter. He’s a realist. As long as Marshall and Girlie are healthy, he’ll be no higher than 3rd on the depth chart.

Malcome is a very solid back and should have come in to spell Gurley instead of Marshall in certain situations this season. For instance, on short-distance downs when Gurley could have used a breather. He has to get used to his role, though, because it’s not going to change. He’s not going to supplant Gurley as the workhorse and he’s not as versatile as Keith Marshall. And all indications are the Turman kid coming in is another bruiser. I can certainly empathize with Boo.

Looking at the rushing stats from above, Give marshall 90 more carries to equal gurley and he rushs for over 1200 yds easy with his ypc. I think the backfield rotation is just fine. However use the off season to develop getting the ball to marshall in space, and good things will happen. Nebraska who?

I agree with what you said Macclenny_dawg … They need to look at some tape of how Reggie Bush was used back at USC with LenDale White in the backfield and put a little wrinkle in the offense. I do believe Malsome deserves a little bit more time out on the field though.. he’s a big back that can run between the tackles and help wear on a d-line. LSU uses pretty much all of the backs at their disposal which I’m pretty sure we’ll see next year when they come to Athens… but anyway… #DAWGNATION

This is what a New Recruit wants walking in to UGA? Geez the crying game. Although I do agree that Both Malcolme and Marshall both got very under utilized in the SEC CG. Bobo has shown that he can’t effectively utilize the tremendous talent there. I mean Stafford, Moreno, Green, and Massaqoui on one offense, now Murray, King,Gurley, Marshall, Malcome, Bennett, and Lynch and still finishing second. I was praying that one of the schools like W. kentucky gave him a Head Coaching job. Guess Christmas passed me by again.

malcome was better than marshall this year..malcome is a spinning bruising back like lacey for bama…marshall couldnt even keep up right remember all the times he fell on his face and nobody touched him?malcome and gurley should have been the only two backs that played this season..the coaches already lied to him and told him that if he came to practice ready to work every day and compete he could be that guy and he did and they lied again..malcome is a good running back especially up the middle with his spin move bouncing off payers moving the pile..a lot of gurleys yards came outside the hash marks…we ran more to the outside this year than we ever have that i rememer go dawgs hope ogeltree jj come back with them and garrison smith and gwanme and jrdon jenkins and ray drew we could be at the same place 3 years in a row..we are nothing without jj and ogeltree

Hey Ken you were there longer than Gurshall and you didnt take advantage of that opportunity to firmly plant your mark on UGA FOOTBALL. Instead you chose to walk away, get suspended and half ass it!! These two young studs have watched you and IC enough to learn what not to do. Did you really believe that they were ever worried about you? What did you think the recruiting pitch to these guys would be? Wow!!! It’s still amazes me how good UGA’s backs are but they finish a distant second compared to BAMA’s two guys… throw Derrick Henry in the mix and watch out!!!

This is a clear case of STOCK Piling its not the fact that he’s not better than Marshall or Gurley they have the HOT hand and more years and biggest thing they SELL tickets! When these kids come out of HS they are told all types of LIES. This young man should leave if he wants to play but be THANKFUL for the opportunity to have gotten the chance to get a FREE Education. Every school is stock piling these days look @ Alabama they have Lacy a jr. and yeldon a Fresh. another red shirted and signed 3 out of the top 5 rb’s in the Nation in the class of 2013. STUPID if you ask me Players should Research their schools not just who is winning and losing, because if you are good You should be a gamechanger bits to many D1 schools to choose from for everybody to only want to go to a few. I blame the HS coaches Parents as well as the player for not truly ADVISING the players
