ATHENS – Jarvis Jones was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year by The Associated Press and he and freshman Todd Gurley were the only Bulldogs named first-team All-SEC as the news organization’s annual all-conference team was released on Monday.
Six Bulldogs in all were represented in the All-SEC voting by a panel of sportswriters.
Jones has accumulated 77 tackles, including 22.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks, one interception, seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 11 games this season. Jones sat out two games with injuries. He enters the Jan. 1 Capital One Bowl as the NCAA active leader in forced fumbles per game and tackles for loss per game. Jones’ 22.5 tackles for loss this season ranks second in school history behind David Pollack’s 23.5 in 2002. Pollack’s single-season sack record is 14.
Gurley became the first UGA true freshman to be named first-team, All-SEC since A.J. Green in 2008. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound native of Tarboro, N.C., 1,260 yards rushing and scored 17 touchdowns this season. He led all SEC running backs with 96.9 rushing yards per game and is just the second true freshman in school history to rush for 1,000 yards.
Senior nose guard John Jenkins, junior linebacker Alec Ogletree and senior safety Bacarri Rambo were voted to the second team, while junior quarterback Aaron Murray was named honorable mention All-SEC.

Tampa Gator you think Tree takes plays off? If that’s the case I guess he would have doubled anyone else in tackles if he had played more games as he lead the team in tackles in only 9 games. He is the best LB in the country not named Jones. That’s not to take anything away from your players who made it.
However, I do find it difficult to believe your running back is near the same rank as either of Alabama’s.
I find it incredulous that AL’s QB was ahead of Murray.
I find it incredulous that UF is ranked ahead of UGA when they had the same pre-season record, yet UGA won head to head. The only reason UF doesn’t have two losses is because they didn’t play in the SEC championship game. That said, it is certainly no blaming UF’s that they received the good fortune. Beat Louisville like a cheap drum.

M: I was fully aware of Dungy’s friendship with Aaron Murray. If any thing, Dungy’s opinion carries more weight because of that. Tony liked his intelligence, his work ethic, and his character, in addition to the fact Murray throws a very catchable ball. Wish someone acqainted with Hines Ward had given the same inside info to the Falcons before they passed on Hines in the draft.

What an incredible game that SEC aka NC was! You Dawg fans should be proud of your team – they earned my utmost respect playing Bama. Yes, even after the pain of seeing them hammer my hapless Jackets in Athens!
The other thing is that Mark Richt also earned my respect for his handling of the post game press conference after his team gave it everything they had. That game was one for the ages. and that media member should’ve been escorted out of the building for being stupid.
St Richt is no more- I will come up w another handle.

No doubt Murray is very talented. Problem is he hasn’t taken the Dogs to the promised land yet. Don’t know if he can. In that regard, he reminds me of Matthew Stafford. Stafford was talented enough to go first in the draft. At Georgia, he couldn’t take the Dogs to the promised land either. Can’t argue with those facts. We want championships. 12 seconds away from a shot at the NC. Only took 30 years to get to that point again. Hope it’s not 30 more.

Go figure. Dundee says he would have Murray number one pick in draft if he goes early. Highest rated QB in college football. Yet the sports writers only give him an honorable mention. That is shows why these guys have nothing more in life to do that figure polls because they are not smart enough to earn a living.

I played the game with much passion when I was a kid. Unfortunately, God gave me only two out of three qualities to make it to the next level. He gave me the heart and passion for the game. He gave me the mental toughness and the high you get when you know you just made a play or light somebody up. But for me I never had the size it took. I know with a lot of money on the table it will be hard for some underclassmen say no. And everyone has their own unique situation. But me, had I been able to play at that level I would feel like my manhood was being challenged to say to my teammates good luck next year.

..ima say it, after watching the replay game georgia vs. alabama 3times, the whole coaching staff owe the players an apology. they played their hearts out for the championship so did bama but alabama kept with their strenghts and hit us with a timely bomb off of play action inwhich we couldnt do. had our chances but same ole same, try to be to smart and out smarted ourselves…congratulations caver columbus, sec player of the year…salute, dont come back & risk injury you deserve that monday check…p.s. georgia coaching staff, you say you out there recruiting how about football players who is hard to block, hard to move, size & strength and stuff a hole by the other team running attack…maybe its just me but outta all the losses i can remember, we got run on like we’re a c-team defense

When you see words like “moral victory” and “pride” over and over to describe the UGA fans’ feelings about the outcome of the game, it’s a clear sign than they’ve accepted mediocrity and irrelevance.
So, let’s get the Kool-Aid flowing again and start rebuilding the annual myth that CMR will win championships in Athens!

I think Barnhart and friends that graduate from the Georgia school of journalism have spiked the Kool-Aid. Georgia is the most penalized team in the SEC yet every big game the announcers are highlighting the miscalls of the other team. In the Florida game or this Alabama game eye gauging or cheap hits on the quarterback. The one drive of any success in the first half was given life support on a fake punt, yet Murray was given credit for the success of the drive that turned into a touchdown. How was this game any different from the Georgia/ Florida game except poor Florida had two other top ten opponents the two weeks before the Gator Bowl show down? You hear any difference given to Florida, or comment made if Georgia had had the schedule of Fla. or SC or even the original schedule they had drawn in the beginning, playing Alabama in the regular season, that they might not even be here in the first place. Nope it is all about five yards and cheap shots from Alabama who will be national champions for the third time in four years pretty soon. 1980 is a very long time ago, even a SEC championship is a faded memory.

To win a game like we lost Saturday, we have GOT to fill our program up with more Jarvis Jones type players….And they are sitting right here under our nose in this state. Yes, I know we get OUR share, but we have got to get the 4 or 5 5 star players who are leaving this state every in to Athens. Over a 3 year recruiting cycle, that’s 15-18 ” special” players like Jarvis in the program. THAT would be qa huge difference. Hold you breath for next years D. Hope we get 3-4 special freshman who can help.

No statistics to back up your moronic post once again. UGA was darn glad to have Murray taking the snaps this year. He is a leader and a great athlete. I suppose you think LeMay or Mason would have been able to lead the team as well.

Maybe players go other places and get coached up to perform better than Georgia. Jones was going to Southern Cal circumstances brought him to Georgia. He only played against three class programs and in two of them he was average not great. Cam Newton would have been a third string tight end at Georgia. Save the hype for the champions or what agenda are you playing for?
