UGA-Bama winner gets Notre Dame in Miami

One-half of the BCS Championship game is set. No. 1 Notre Dame punched its ticket for Miami with a 22-13 win over Southern Cal Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The other half of the big game will be settled between No. 3 Georgia and No. 2 Alabama in the SEC Championship this Saturday in the Georgia Dome (4 p.m., CBS). The Bulldogs (11-1) beat Georgia Tech 42-10 in Athens on Saturday afternoon and the Crimson Tide (11-1) shut out Auburn 49-10 in Tuscaloosa Saturday evening. The day’s results left little mystery with regard to the sometimes complicated “BCS formula.”

“You don’t need a computer for this one,” ABC sportscaster Brent Musberger said after the Fighting Irish clinched their spot. “Notre Dame will play Alabama or Georgia for the national championship.”

The Irish (12-0) won like they have much of the season, with a stingy defense making stops in the red zone — they made a goal-line stand in the final minutes — and the offense putting together a steady and balanced attack. Quarterback Everett Golson passed for 217 yards, Theo Riddick rushed for 146 and Heisman Trophy candidate Manti Te’o had a key second-half interception.

Notre Dame does not have to play  in a conference championship game. The Irish will now play for a national championship for the first time in 24 years. The BCS Championship game is Jan. 7 in Miami.

TV wants Bama vs ND. It might not be the best teams but it is the BEST TV ratings. Too many people LOVE & HATE both Bama and the Irish.

The SEC Championship game will be a very interesting contest, Ala with its great tradition and Ga with what apears to be its best team ever, Ga has a balanced attack, Murray has broken most passing records at Ga and the SEC and also features two freshmen running backs who could start at any school in the country, Ala on the other hand does not appear to be as strong as last years team, Losing to Texas A&M and just beating LSU in the closing seconds to go 11-1 on the season, This should be a classic, Lets hope the Dogs can keep up the level of play we have seen over the last 5 games, Good luck Georgia.

Hey GatorinGa, how does those sour grapes taste my friend?…Here’s a news flash for ya…UGA BEAT FLORIDA!…we won!….we defeated the Gators!….you lost!….swallow that down your pie hole. UF has beaten some good teams, but they have also looked pathetic against some highschool teams. Needing a last second INT to beat a weak Mizzou team….A blocked punt to keep from going into OT against La-freakin-Lafayette!…scoring a measily 20 something against a Jax St. team that, the week before, allowed the mighty powerhouse of Tennessee Martin to shred them for 49 points! I got news for ya buddy….if you guys get Oregon in the Sugar bowl, they are a weeeeee bit better than La Lafayette. Do you think you’re boys, with their inept offense, can keep up with them? To bad you don’t have UGA’s offense. So try not to embarrass the SEC. I got a feeling UF will be wishing THEY had gone to the Outback or Gator bowl instead.

Beast

Offenses aside (and I like ours better than theirs) the UGA defense is near invincible. I know Bama is a TD favorite and if Georgia wasn’t my team I’d be laying some serious coinage and the Dawgs next week. Georgia wins that game. I quit betting on UGA many years ago

All you Bammers gloating over your 49-0 win over Auburn…we called off the Dawgs early because that is what CMR does. We shut them out too. And holding Tech to 10 points is like shut out anyway. Just remember your all everything defense last year gave up 21 points and 400+ yards to Goeorgai Southern and Tech is way better at running their offense. They’d have scored 30 on you guys easily.
One week til the SEC CG… one week for Bama to come up with some decent excuses. The Dawgs can play with anybody and they will show everybody why they are the ones to go to Miami and BEAT ND.
Great day…great time to be a BULLDAWG!

I love the arrogance! Any SEC team will beat the Irish??? The ONLY SEC team that had a schedule almost as tough as the Irish was Florida. ND is more than ready for the test! Not saying the Irish will win but it will be a close game. The defenses will dictate the game with one or two big plays making the difference and a field goal deciding the out come! Please though all you SEC fans, keep saying how your gonna crush the Irish! Teams have been saying it all season and it hasn’t happened yet. UGA got CRUSHED by SC and Bama by A&M. ND has fought all season to win it’s games. They only had 2 or 3 easy games, the rest were nailbiters to the end. Everybody gets up and plays their best against the Irish and the SEC will be no different but ND knows how to fight for 60 mins and they know how to win. Whoever plays them it will be a game for the ages! Get ready………………..HERE COME THE IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your beat down is coming soon enough. Go find a blog where someone actually believes ND is a championship team. It ain’t happening here. The Irish is heavily overrated and we honestly believe the SEC chic-fi-la bow; team would spank your heineys. If there were any justice in this world that is where ND would be finishing their year.

You barely got by a 4 loss very weak USC without their #1 QB last night. If you want to hear respect go find a USC blog or that corpse Brent Musberger

What’s the matter? Can’t take a little needling? Just keeping it real! Just trying to prepare you for the shock when ND give the SEC a game! Hell you probably need the paddles! Get your head out of your A$$ and quit thinking that the SEC is almighty! You should have realized that when Michigan State beat you guys last year!

I liked the resolve Alabama showed yesterday. Good energy. Good vibes. Easy win. The Tide is saddled with injuries though. Should be a classic, but Kirby Smart needs to put pressure on Murray.

After perusing the ‘net this morning, the only person I can find that picks UGA to go to the MNC is Mark Schlabach. He’s a bit of a homer, I think, but it seems no one gives the Dawgs any love. All I’ll say is that I’ve got the faith…I think they can “shock the world”. But then after that, it’ll be curious to see how far any bowl would let “Bama” fall. Additionally, though it’s hard to pull for Tech, I’d love to see them beat FSU in the ACC CG and have the Orange bowl have to take them. What a screwed up mess the BCS and bowl system is. Hopefully in a couple of years the playoff system will satisy some of this. GO DAWGS !!!!

Congrats on a good season UGA fans. It should be a bubble knocker in the Dome. I’m not into predictions. Even if I were, this one is too close to call. I’ve watched UGA play 3 or 4 times this year, and think they match up very well with Bama. I give a little edge to UGA’s secondary, and to Bama’s OL. Should be a great game.

Good luck. See you Saturday.

BTW: no one should be underestimating the Irish. That is a tough, well disciplined football team, and their QB gets better every week. But we’ll have five weeks to worry about Notre Dame.

Georgia beat Florida….they deserve to be in the SEC title game. But you running you mouth about Florida after Florida beat 4….count them….4….”pretty good” top 15 teams this year. No one did that. NO ONE. Not Notre Dame (2). Not Bama (1). Not Georgia (1). Not Ohio State (0)….not Oregon (0). And how did Oregon’s powerful offense do against a good Stanford defense…..???? And…to let you know….Florida’s defense is a lot tougher and faster than Stanford’s defense.

No need to play the game really, just go ahead and give to national title to ND. Brent Hamburger said yesterday during the USC-ND game that ND is “destiny’s darlings”. Now all the major sports networks, especially ESPN, will blow them up religiously(pun intended) and they will sprout wings and fly around the DAWGS or BAMA.

Proving once again our dominance. Now you wanna ride Notre Dame’s tail, and tell us what there going to do. To the football players for UGA, make every snap 8count and act like its the last snap of your career. You’re not just winning this for the team, you’re winning this for past players and future players to come. You’re winning it for everyone who has listened to the naysayers about UGA. Murray – please stay composed throughout the entire game. Don’t let the moment get too big for you. Read the defense, check your progressions, and don’t turn the ball over.
