Todd Gurley: ‘I knew as soon as I chose to come here the capability Georgia had’

Quotes from the UGA locker room following the Bulldogs’ 42-10 win over Georgia Tech . . .

“That was a great victory for us. You know we had people talking to us all week about trying to look ahead and all that and were you worried about this, that or the other. I didn’t see any signs of that. Our players understand how important this game is. I thought our coaching staff did a good job of staying focused. Certainly I never I had a moment where I was thinking ahead. That’s so dangerous, and I’ve coached long enough to where I can’t even let myself do that. So I knew that wasn’t going to be a problem. I just thought everybody did a super job of preparing. It was a good day.”

– Georgia coach Mark Richt on keeping the focus on Tech

“Am I happy? Yeah, I’m happy. I’m excited about the future. But I really do enjoy these young guys and these other coaches who maybe haven’t experienced it before to get a chance to see what it’s like. I enjoy it, but I enjoy watching (the players) have fun, really. I enjoy watching them celebrate. I’ll jump in there and have some fun, too, but I’ve lived through a couple of them. I know it’s a great time, and it’s a lot of fun.”

– Richt on being back in the national-championship picture

“I thought our guys dominated the game. There was a lot of meaningless yards there in the second half being picked up. They had three points going against the first group, and the best thing to do was to get those guys out of the game because we’ve got big things to do next week.”

– Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on giving up 426 yards to the Yellow Jackets

“We’ve got a shot. That’s why you play the game. That’s why you do what you do. We’re one game away from playing for the national championship. Obviously we’re going to play a good team. They’ve got good players, good coaches. But we’ll be ready.”

– Grantham on Saturday’s game against Alabama

“Oh, man, I’ve wanted to get back so bad. Drops happen. It just happened at the wrong time for me. So I want to get back and hopefully make some plays this time.”

– Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell on wanting to atone for a potential touchdown pass he dropped vs. LSU in the 2011 SEC Championship game

“This is what everybody has been dreaming of. This is what everybody came back for. This is our main goal, to get to Miami and win. So we’re going to go to Saturday and continue to handle our business.”

– Georgia free safety Bacarri Rambo on Georgia’s national-championship shot

“Shoot, man, I had the same goals as those guys had back in January. I knew as soon as I chose to come here the capability that Georgia had. I knew those guys would be ready to get back this year and be hungry. Now we’re just trying to finish it off next week and get that win they didn’t get last year.”

– Freshman tailback Todd Gurley on coming to UGA to play in the SEC Championship game

Congratulations to Mark Richt, Mike Bobo, Todd Grantham, and all the UGA Coaches!

Georgia has now won the SEC East, beat Florida for two in a row, and taken care of Tech in Grand Fashion.

Time to finish strong. Time to do what they said can’t be done. Time to Roll The Tide.

Time to GATA, take care of business, and then go to the Big Dance and show ND what Big Boy SEC football is all about. Go Dawgs!!!

Dominated Tech. The team has come alive in the last 5 games. Williams was the key. Coaches need to take a lesson from that. Must play v Bama like we did v FL. Same intensity. Don’t expect Bama to turn it over 6 times.

The ACC just lost 4 games to the SEC. We will have 6 teams in the top 10 or 11 and Vandy and Ole Miss are playing great. We win Saturday we will have beaten 2 of them. What a team. Let’s go dawgs!!!!!

Roll Tide with Pride!!!

November 25th, 2012

Great season for UGA – but no match for Bama. Tide will win by a minimum of 17 points – running away with it in the 4th. UGA will fold like a cheap suit in a big game – yet again …. and again …… and again…… and again.

Really – do you think we are concerned?
National Title #15 will be one of the easier ones we’ve had. Georgia? Notre Dame???? hahahahahahahahahahaha
Enjoy the cap on dogs!

Would love to see Ga Southern and Ga Tech play in a bowl. Where is GTBob? I would love to hear his take on who would win that game. Would also love to hear his follow up on the comments he made a couple of months ago on how the SEC didn’t have but one team that deserved to be in the top ten of the BCS. Actually, on second thought, I’m enjoying his absence. lol

Richt’s a REALLY great coach when he’s THIS focused. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him so business like, but he’s knows what’s at stake.

Totally agree wiht Grantham, UGA dominated the game defensively, but too risky to leave starters in after Jenkins went out.

Like what we’re hearing from the playmakers:
Mitchell is a big game guy, Florida put Purifoy on him, and Mitchell burned Purifoy for a late td. Bama doesn’t have anyone better. Look for mitchell to make some big plays. Love his opening kick off return, and the deep catch and how he kept his balance against GT.

Rambo is a playmaker, got that big pick against Florida. Look for him to punish AJ if challenged.

Ogletree put some hits on some guys.

Jarvis Jones will show up, he dominated in the Florida game. last 2 games teams didn’t pass, but vs. Bama, Jarvis will make his presence known.

Gurley is in beast mode. If he keeps running hard, Bama won’t be able to stop him.

So proud of our guys for getting here, now you got to finish the drill. Played great 1st half vs. LSU in 2011, got to put it together for 4 quarters this time.

8:35 am

I don’t think I’ll watch ESPN this week…these guys are in love with Bama and don’t give us a snowballs chance in Guam!!! All those quotes for the past week about Bama already being in the MNC just makes me sick. I hope the Dawgs give them a big “Turd Burger” to eat this time next week. GATA Dawgs!!!

November 25th, 2012

Can you blame ESPN for being in love with Alabama? I mean, if you want to see where the Saban/Alabama dreamy eyed man crush comes from, look no further than so many Georgia fans in here.

Win and espn will give Georgia with just as much love. They are in the business of promoting the hot team(s).

This is what everybody has been dreaming of. This is what everybody came back for. This is our main goal, to get to Miami and win. So we’re going to go to Saturday and continue to handle our business

A Word to UGA fans

November 25th, 2012
9:17 am

Indeed, it’s been a long time (32 years) since we’ve been in this position. So, try to keep your composure this week (on blogs) and show ample respect for your adversary (Alabama). Fact is, we haven’t won anything yet.

Rules of Engagement:

1. Show pride but not ego
2. Act like you’ve been in this position before
3. Stand firm and tall but don’t gush in the spotlight
4. Success equals preparation meeting opportunity
5. No bubbas allowed
7. It may be another 32 years ’til you’re in this position again so win it while you’ve got the chance.

It all depends on Murry we can BEAT bama if Murry plays good not great just good

November 25th, 2012
9:55 am

Exactly, Mike.

If Murray just protects the ball we will be in the game. If he has a great game, . . . I can’t say it.

I’ll just say what I’ve said all year, I hope Mark Richt collects every bonus in that contract.

Every one.

November 25th, 2012
10:05 am

Dang, our D has played lights-out since the famous Williams diss. Say what you want about Tech, but they have been putting up big offense lately. 10 points? And look at all the TD drives by UF last night vs FSU, and we held them to 3 FGs?

I never thought in a million years after Columbia SC, that the Dawgs would be in this position, and I just get nervous as hell thinking about it.

November 25th, 2012
10:22 am

Dawgs will win, i think Ala. is still hurt from the A&M game. I think Ala know they have a fight on their hands. IF WE COME OUT SWINGING WITH THAT SAME SWAGGER AGAINST FLA, AND CAN SCORE AS QUICKLY AS WE DID AGAINST TECH…….. Miami here we come. Bama should have two lost but it is all good. WE GOT THIS!!!!!!!!!!

November 25th, 2012
10:43 am

It should be noted Tech only mustered 3 points against the first team D. I sense a lot was left on the table in that game. It could have been much uglier for the Nerds

I keep hearing that we made it to the SECCG because we didn’t play the “big 3″ from the west. It is my opinion that Alabama is playing in the SECCG because they didn’t have to play any of the “Big 3″ from the east.

Murray was not the problem in the SC and FL games. Our OL was the problem. How do we expect him to perform when he has no time and is getting hit every down????

November 25th, 2012

Our success herafter will depend entirely on our OL performance. I hope they play their hearts out and are successful. They are the heart of our team!!

This is Richt’s biggest game at UGA coming up on Saturday. He will be facing off against the best coach in college football and it will take a perfect game from UGA to come out as victors.

I hate to say this, but SECCG rests on Aaron Murray’s shoulders. Let’s hope he can overcome the jitters and have the game of his life. If Murray plays lights out and Jarvis can get to McCarron, we’ve got a shot to play ND for the National Championship. It’s been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG 32 years. Lets FINISH THE DRILL!

Richt seems focused. Loved him telling the sideline reporter, “you can come in and give the speech” at the half. He seems all business and you know Grantham is. The inadvertently broadcast comments from the coaches booth upstairs when Jenkins went down, shows the offensive staff is all in. Loved to see Bobo down on the sideline just before the end of the game congratulating the team. Georgia has had eight 11 win seasons and half of them have been under Coach Richt. They keep it exciting but you can’t argue with success. Two game season at this point. GATA early and often against Bama and then let’s go beat the Irish again just like we did in 1980. Thanks Dawgs for such a great season so far. GO DAWGS!

Two great teams with great traditions! Congrats to both teams. I think Murray is going to have to use his legs to win this one. Bama can stop the run and pass pretty well, being the number 1 D in the country, but they don’t stop a running QB as well. I am thinking we might be doing a lot of the hurry-up, too. Any word on Thornton and Jenkins?
