By late Saturday night, Atlanta was awash in Stanford Cardinal fans.
Word had spread that Baylor was in the process of handily beating BCS No. 1 Kansas State and that Stanford was in a close game with No. 2 Oregon, all potentially good news for the Georgia Bulldogs’ hopes of reaching college football’s national-championship game in Miami.
The closing minutes of Stanford-Oregon became must-see TV for Bulldog Nation.
By the time Stanford kicked a field goal in overtime to win 17-14, the metro-Atlanta audience for ABC’s telecast had grown gradually to 338,000 households from about 80,000 at the start, according to Nielsen ratings figures.
The game posted an overall rating of 8.9 here, meaning 8.9 percent of Atlanta’s TV homes — about 200,000 homes — tuned in on average. That was the sixth highest rating for the game among the nation’s 56 largest markets.
But for the final hour, the game garnered a 12.5 rating in Atlanta, including a peak of 14.7 in the last 15 minutes — extremely high numbers for a Pac-12 game here.
Each full rating point equals about 23,000 homes in the Atlanta market.
“After watching the Georgia-Georgia Southern game (Saturday afternoon), Bulldog Nation turned their attention toward the prime-time games,” WSB-TV sports director Zach Klein said Monday. “It was clear when the Oregon game was on the line that word spread quickly Georgia could have a clear path to the national championship. Viewers tuned in, knowing that with an Oregon loss, (the Bulldogs) control their BCS title plans. Two more wins, and it’s time to book your flight to Miami. … It went viral, so to speak.”
Georgia-Georgia Southern, which like Stanford-Oregon was on WSB, averaged a 12.2 rating. That game and Stanford-Oregon were the two highest-rated programs on Atlanta television Saturday.
The Kansas State-Baylor game on ESPN posted a 3.3 rating in Atlanta, failing to get a late spike because of the 52-24 score and the simultaneous Stanford-Oregon game.

This is why I wanted LSU to beat Bama. We would have had a much better chance against that team. Either way, UGA needs to finally make that leap by beating Tech then Bama. It’s been far too long since the last title.

The Bear, I know your not comparing the tides schedule to UGA? It’s just as soft. Alabama might not even be going to the SECCG if they had to play UGA, USC, and Florida. Their SEC schedule was as big of a joke as UGA’s. They avoided the big three in the East just like UGA avoided the big three in the WEST. Nice try though.

David Pollack made the great point on college gameday (before Bama lost to TAM) that while bama is well-coached, disciplined, and executes well, they have WAY less talent on D than the last three years.
If you Bama fans (aka Tech trolls) want to act like they are going to blow out UGA because you either do not watch college football or you really are unable to take in what you are seeing, great, but this BAMA team is far from dominating like last year (that will happen when 5 key defenders end up in the top 40 picks of the NFL draft).
Plus, Lacy is a very good back, but he is not Richardson and McCarron is a David Greene-style game manager, not a stud talent.
Should bama be favored ? Definitely. Should they win? Probably. Is the SECCG a mismatch? Definitely not. If the Defense plays lights out and we limit mistakes, watch out.

LawDawg, I also think that if they game plan right for Alabama that Georgia can really attack them. Bama lacks dominant edge rushers like they have had in the past. Aaron Murray, while nowhere near Manziels ability, can run if they allow him to. Just look at his rushing from his freshman year especially if you remove the sacks. I think having him revert to that and attacking the secondary would throw Alabama way off balance. I never understood why they got away from Murray running several times a game.

I would not want anyone else but Bama in the SEC Championship game. You lost to a big 12/wanna be SEC team at HOME. LSU handed you the SEC west title. Bama will do nothing but line up and try to play sound football with no trickery. That’s exactly who Georgia wants to play! Seriously Bama fans, your team is not better than us this season. Your fixing to be in for a rude awakening on December 1st. Our program is a lot more hungry for a championship than you are right now. 1980 has been a long time. On December 1st, your going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Lets take one game at a time. Coach Saban, nor the team is giving UGA one second of thought for now. Bama has been successful over the years in managing their preparation. That’s something that UGA has never done consistently under CMR. Remember the UGA team that was so highly ranked, only to crash and burn at the blackout game. Just mention a big game and all you have to say is Florida Gators to the Dawgs, and that pretty much does them in. UGA has no history of being able to step up in a big game. Maybe they can they can this year. Only tme will tell. I would suggest we all worry about our next game! Roll Tide.

UGA has a MUCHO better passing game than Alabama–UGA is ranked 35 in passing, Alabama 73.
UGA has a better set of running backs than Alabama, Gurley & Marshall, are both tougher to stop than anyone Alabama has.
UGA’s oline has given up less sacks than Alabama. So they’re better there also.
UGA defense is in the top 5 in the nation in second half points allowed, so is Alabama, so defenses are even. Defensive edge to UGA, which is loaded with more NFL talent.
The Alabama pass defense has been exposed by Mettenberger, who struggled against every team EXCEPT ALABAMA. Johnny football also had a CAREER BEST against ALABAMA.
Coaching? Mark Richt is 2-1 vs. Alabama, and has a higher career winning percentage as a head coach than Nick Saban.

If the Dawgs play to potential, they will be Tech, Bama and ND. Great defense, good QB, RB’s TE’s and WR’s. I actually like this set of receivers better than any UGA has ever had. Mitchell is grat, Conley and very good, Wooten can catch. RB is set. The OL is improving.
I sincerely feel that this is the best UGA team ever and I have watch UGA for 45 years. The 76, 80-83 and 2002 and 2007 teams were good, but this team is solid throughout and VERY athletic.
If Murry gets hot, watch out.

Agree with you on Murray as a runner. A shame to see him crumple in the pocket time after time when he has the ability to make plays with his legs–as he was allowed to do his freshman year.

The Saint……………Please don’t lay out subjective comments like that. Alabama’s RB’s are just as good, if not better than UGA’s. I am a die hard Dawg fan but sometimes you just have to realize the truth.
I believe UGA can win the SEC and the NC, if they play straight and true. Murray can’t get rattled early or we are in for a hurting. Bobo better call the came of his life to keep Murray going and the young running backs confident.
I am not worried about the D, I think they finally have enough spit anger built up that no matter what scheme TG dials up they will fight and keep it close defensively. Our offense will be the key to winning the game. I know most people say D wins championships but our O has got to be on fire. Maybe the young recievers will be ready to make a statement. We got the speed, I just worry about fumbles or gator arms if they see the big DB’s to close.
I will say that every Alabama player looks solid and conditioned. Even our best players, Jarvis Jones and Todd Gurley, “look” soft in comparison, they just have motors that don’t quit.

I certainly was watching because anybody can get beat late in the season. By the 10TH game injuries can take a huge toll on a team. Oregon has had some of their best players go down , Lack of depth can really change a team from being unbeatable to only a very average team.
Thankfully the new Strength and Conditioning emphasis at Georgia along with the Nutrition appears to be working. Very few serious injuries especially to the play makers. Georgia should be ready for both Georgia Tech and Alabama.

Fellow Dawgs only one game matters as of right now and that is this Saturday between the Hedges against Tech. So please just concentrate on beating Tech as they have wrecked our National Championship aspirations before as we have theirs. Rivalry games have a way of bringing out the best sometimes. Dawgs need to take care of business and put them away early and often and then rest the starters.

I am so tired of BAMA FANS talking about our schedule being soft, because we did not have to play LSU or BAMA. Lets look at BAMA Schedule, they did not have to play Flordia, Georgia, nor South Carolina from the east. BAMA played Missouri 2 SEC wins, and Tennesse 0 SEC wins from the east. Georgia Played Ole Miss 2 SEC wins and Auburn 0 SEC wins. it looks as if our schedule turned out to be the same.
