Oddsmakers have UGA as underdog vs. Bama, favorite vs. Notre Dame

Georgia would be an underdog against Alabama in the SEC Championship game but, if the Bulldogs pull an upset there, would be favored over Notre Dame in the national title game.

That’s the early word from oddsmakers.

Todd Fuhrman, former sports oddsmaker at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, said Monday that he projects Georgia as a 7-point underdog to Alabama in the Dec. 1 SEC title game. But if the Bulldogs beat Alabama in the Georgia Dome, they would be a 4-point favorite over Notre Dame in the Jan. 7 BCS title game in Miami, said Fuhrman, now senior market analyst for betting information services provider Don Best Sports.

RJ Bell, of sports betting news website pregame.com, sees it similarly. He projects Georgia as a 7-point underdog to Alabama but views the Bulldogs as 1-point favorite if they play Notre Dame.

All of this could be altered by what happens Saturday, of course.

Notre Dame, No. 1 in this week’s BCS standings, closes its regular season at USC and needs a win to secure a spot in the national title game. Alabama, BCS No. 2, plays Auburn and needs a win to clinch a berth against Georgia in the SEC title game. And BCS No. 3 Georgia plays Georgia Tech, which could knock its arch-rival out of the national-championship picture with an upset victory.

The top two teams in the final BCS standings, to be released Dec. 2, will reach the national-title game. Although there are no guarantees in a system driven by polls and computers, BCS analysts agree that if Alabama and Georgia win this week, then the winner of the SEC Championship game would rank in the top two.

If Alabama faces Notre Dame in the BCS title game, Fuhrman projects the Crimson Tide as an 11-point favorite over the Fighting Irish. Bell figures Alabama as a 10-point favorite over Notre Dame.

If UGa was not an SEC team but still played that same schedule they would be as respected as KENT STATE RUTGERS and LOUISVILLE……all 1 loss teams.

Just take care of Tech and worry about Alabama in Dec. Sure would be funny if Auburn upsets Alabama. The whole ESPN crew would have heart attacks and die; then Derick Dooley would have a job while he collects his buyout from Tennessee.

UGA has a MUCHO better passing game than Alabama–UGA is ranked 35 in passing, Alabama 73.

UGA has a better set of running backs than Alabama, Gurley & Marshall, are both tougher to stop than anyone Alabama has.

UGA’s oline has given up less sacks than Alabama. So they’re better there also.

UGA defense is in the top 5 in the nation in second half points allowed, so is Alabama, so defenses are even. Defensive edge to UGA, which is loaded with more NFL talent.

The Alabama pass defense has been exposed by Mettenberger, who struggled against every team EXCEPT ALABAMA. Johnny football also had a CAREER BEST against ALABAMA.

Coaching? Mark Richt is 2-1 vs. Alabama, and has a higher career winning percentage as a head coach than Nick Saban.

The Georgia defense can shut Rol Tide Roll down. Bama should have lost to LSU who ws almost beaten by Ole Miss.

I call the game even. I think that Florida would beat Alabama. Florida beat Texas AM. It’s all set up beautifully for UGA. UGA needs to just play to potential. The OL is the weak link but they are getting better.

We need to focus on Saturday and the Bees. The SEC Chamionship Game can wait. It all means nothing if we lose again. I’m sure our players and coaches are focused. Only on the field results matter. Tech is focused. We need to be as we’ll.

The Georgia OLine is better than Alabama’s.

Georgia’s 2 backs have a higher per yard average than Alabama’s top 2 backs.

And Georgia’s oline has given up less sacks than Alabama’s.

Mettenburger had a field day against Alabama–
250 yards passing, completed 69%, best day of season

Johnny Mansiel had a field day against Alabama-
299 yards passing, completed 77%

This were the only 2 good teams Alabama played.

Bama has a great coach and team. I have a lot of respect for them. At the same time I do not think our Dawgs will back down or be intimidated by them. Some numbers nobody’s talking about : Dawgs have won 3 of the last 4 vs Bama, and 2 of the last 3 vs The Great Saban. Who’s afraid of the big bad Tide? Not this group of Dawgs!! It’s our time, brothers

This can’t be. It is a direct contrast to something GTBob posted earlier — that UGA has a chance against Bama but no way against ND. Didn’t Vegas call Bobby first? I, for one, am shocked.

Alabama is a mirror image of Florida:
1) run the ball on offense, don’t practice passing
2) stop the run on defense
3) lean on luck, need to win turnover

If Georgia does ANY of the following, they win:
If win the turnover battle, Georgia beats Alabama.
If Gurley/Murshall combine for 200 yards rushing, Georgia wins.
If Murray throws for 300 yards and completes 70%, Georgia wins.
If Murray runs for 75 yards, Georgia wins.

UOAD — get rid of your “new” handle. You take up way too much space. Your drivel takes up way too much space anyways, but seriously, I am going to have to buy a new mouse soon because the scrolling ball is just about worn out. No one cares that most, scratch that, all of the AJC sportswriters would prefer you keep your big mouth shut.

Bulldogs have a chance at three Championships.

State, SEC, National. It is up to this team.

As a longtime Dawg far, thankful to simply be in this situation. What this team does? Up to them. I think i said this same statement previously. Just win. So far so good

It’s time for Mark Richt to make Kirby Smart pay for turning him down a few years ago. Also look for Todd Grantham to be licking his chops to outcoach Saban.

I think Grantham will outcoach Saban in this game, and Richt will outcoach Smart, it’s personal, and it will be ugly for Alabama.

Georgia won’t just win, Georgia will completely embarrass Alabama, and the media will no longer be talking about Nick Saban and Alabama.

Saban will enjoy being the medai darling for 12 more days….

Saban’s clock is ticking……..

And Saban’s team is going down in an EPIC embarrassing lopsided loss that will make AJ cry and Saban wish for Texas A & M.

Beatdown coming…..

GEORGIA has been disrepsected by the mediA one too many times…….

POAD is nothing but the same repetitious BS from one blog to the next. I suspect if the truth be known he is on his mothers computer and living in her basement. She only permits it because he wears that special helmet to avoid hurting himself. He rode the short bus to school. Of course that was 25 years ago. Fruit roll-ups, SunnyD and ajc blogs are his vices.

Two game season. First game is Tech. They will come with everything they have to try and spoil our season. The SECCG won’t mean much if we don’t beat Georgia Tech. Time to focus like a laser beam for 4 quarters on both sides of the ball. Leave it all on the field boys. This is a once and a lifetime chance. GATA early and often! Go Dawgs!

Better than any coach IN THE HISTORY OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Mark Richt will have his team ready……

The UGA hammer is about to drop……..
