Oddsmakers have UGA as underdog vs. Bama, favorite vs. Notre Dame

Georgia would be an underdog against Alabama in the SEC Championship game but, if the Bulldogs pull an upset there, would be favored over Notre Dame in the national title game.

That’s the early word from oddsmakers.

Todd Fuhrman, former sports oddsmaker at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, said Monday that he projects Georgia as a 7-point underdog to Alabama in the Dec. 1 SEC title game. But if the Bulldogs beat Alabama in the Georgia Dome, they would be a 4-point favorite over Notre Dame in the Jan. 7 BCS title game in Miami, said Fuhrman, now senior market analyst for betting information services provider Don Best Sports.

RJ Bell, of sports betting news website pregame.com, sees it similarly. He projects Georgia as a 7-point underdog to Alabama but views the Bulldogs as 1-point favorite if they play Notre Dame.

All of this could be altered by what happens Saturday, of course.

Notre Dame, No. 1 in this week’s BCS standings, closes its regular season at USC and needs a win to secure a spot in the national title game. Alabama, BCS No. 2, plays Auburn and needs a win to clinch a berth against Georgia in the SEC title game. And BCS No. 3 Georgia plays Georgia Tech, which could knock its arch-rival out of the national-championship picture with an upset victory.

The top two teams in the final BCS standings, to be released Dec. 2, will reach the national-title game. Although there are no guarantees in a system driven by polls and computers, BCS analysts agree that if Alabama and Georgia win this week, then the winner of the SEC Championship game would rank in the top two.

If Alabama faces Notre Dame in the BCS title game, Fuhrman projects the Crimson Tide as an 11-point favorite over the Fighting Irish. Bell figures Alabama as a 10-point favorite over Notre Dame.

Jamie, you are digging a deeper hole – it’s 2 in a row, and 3-3 in past 6.

Getting closer.

Oh I absolutely think Georgia CAN beat Alabama. I’d even go as far as saying that since its somewhere around a 40% chance………I am going ahead and expecting them to do so. Why not. You know I reserve and distribute expectations very cautiously. In this case I see no reason not to.

As Gene Kranz said to the Grumman guy…..”look, .if it lights, it lights.”

I’m not going to be able to track down those Ex-coaches, Jamie. Can you make that easier on me , and tell me which ones got fired purely based on thier records against (auburn I assume you meant)?

You know, since that’s how they do it, where you are from.

You are killing me today. Math aside, my point was the losing record against the biggest rival (sorry Tech-you are kind of like Mich St.) Wierd for such a good coach.

Joey, you read that the tech bookstore had a clearance tent out back with the Yellow Jacket gear on sale to make room for all the Bama gear coming in, right.

lol.

And, poor bookstore manager, he frets about the bowl possibilities until, whew, he finally gets UGA’s opponent, and places a rush order, with overnight shipping . . .

Bill Curry was 3-0 against both Johnny Majors and Joe Paterno. 0-3 vs Pat Dye. Coming off a 10 win season (harder back then)/co-SEC championship and just decided Kentucky was the better “fit” for him. Sure we didn’t fire him & we didn’t have too, but what carried more wieght? The record against Auburn or the records against PSU and UT? Shula was 0-4 against Tuberville and coming off a 10 win season the yr before and he got canned. He was 3 games over .500 and the sanctions had crippled the program, but we were on the upside of he probabtion at this point. Sure the other losses hurt, but an win against Auburn has to happen at some point.
In simpler terms how much fun would it have been if your direct boss or father-in-law was a Gator during the last 25 years? How many more loses do you think Dabo can take against the Visor? But if Hoke drops 3 in a row to Urban what will happen? My point was alot of coaches would not have had the opportunity to keep their jobs, right or wrong as it my be, In my opionion UGA has done a good thing by giving him the opportunity to keep his job.

Curry was at war with his boss over several items in his new contract. And that would be about as close of an example as you can come up with, but I hardly think that sets a pattern of “that’s how we do it where I’m from”. More like internal politics between some folks who are long gone.

And Shula 3 games over 500? really? .500 record? and got the program into probation. I would hardly think any Alabama fan would be braggin that the AU record is what got HIM fired.

More accurate to say that Alabama has parted ways with coaches who happen to have lost to a big rival among other things…..but not because of it. Same as every other school over time.

Jamie if your point is really that you agree with Georgia in “keeping” Richt then I guess I agree with you… The mistake most programs make is they assume they will find someone better. You went through dubose, price, franchione, and shula before you landed with Saban. UT went through Kiffin and Dooley and will be reeling for at least 2 more years… So, yes I agree with you that most programs make this mistake…

I wonder how many karate chops Nick Saban will do with his hands after the game is over when someone is interviewing him? He might look like Bruce Lee after the game. lol

Jamie………….Bobo and Murray are 2-8 against top 25 teams until this year.
So Murray is going to more that double his win total against top 25 teams(with all 3 being top10 at the time) this year and 2 of those games will be back-to-back. Sorry i don’t see that happening. Murray and Bobo are 1-1 this year against top 25 teams and now Pad My Stats (against crappy teams)Murray is going to beat 2 top 5 teams?

I have to keep repeating that cause I don’t get where people see that happening.

It could happen but I wouldn’t TAKE IT TO THE BANK or BET THE HOUSE.

Timeout, if your premise were fact, that because Bobo and Murray are blah, blah, blah vs top teams, that they will ALWAYS be precisely that, then nobody would ever beat anybody that they hadn’t beaten before!

Bama should beat UGA. I agree. But it has nothing to do with what has happened previously.

Payton Manning should have never won a Super Bowl, because he had never won a Super Bowl?

How damn stupid is that reasoning?

Get some new material, please . . .

Watch how UGA will struggle this weekend (looking ahead) and then watch them get beat by Alabama the following week (Alabama is for real). Maybe UGA loses two in row!!! Possible….completely possible.

Let’s be realistic for a moment UGA fans.

1) Notre Dame will not be losing to USC. They are too good.

2)Will use Stats for this season that are up to date since it is the only facts to go by:

Alabama is ranked #2 in total defense, Notre Dame #6 and UGA #20.
Georgia is ranked #25 in total offense, Alabama #44 and Notre Dame #50

ND will beat USC

UGA should beat GT

ALA will beat AUB

ALA vs UGA = Too close to call. Depends on who shows up

ND vs UGA/ALA = Too close to call. Low scoring game. Will be fun to watch! No team will dominate, it will be back and forth with the defenses keeping offenses in check. 1 or 2 big plays will make the difference with a field goal winning the game.

It’s funny how all these bulldog fans are lying to
Themselves saying they could beat bama. “Oh Florida beat A&M and A&M beat bama and Georgia beat florida so obviously Georgia is better” 1. When A&M played Florida Manziel was still in his first few games as a freshman, not comparable to how he is now. 2. Murray threw three interceptions against Florida. If he did that against bama, McCarron and
Company would tear that defense up. 3. “The Georgia defense is better than bamas” it’s funny, I remember south Carolina score 35 against Georgia…When was the last time bama was beaten that badly? 4. These running backs are in no way better than lacy and yeldon. 5. Mr Richt and crew can never win the big game. He will be out coached by a far superior Nick Saban. Bama will roll all over the dawgs! ROLL TIDE ROLL!
