Say this for WSB Channel 2: The Atlanta television giant likes its Bulldogs
Not only did the station step up to broadcast Georgia’s 1:30 p.m. game today against Georgia Southern — SEC guidelines allow members to produce one game per year outside the league’s contracts with CBS and ESPN — but it also will be providing UGA content throughout the day Saturday.
“We are very proud of our station’s pledge to cover local sports here in our state,” said Tim McVay, Channel 2 vice president and general manager. “Channel 2 is the official home of University of Georgia sports and that is a badge of honor for us. To have a football game available for us to locally produce is a dream come true.”
All the coverage will be carried to households in a 53-county TV market that that encompasses metro Atlanta. The game will also be carried on both DirecTV and DISH.
“WSB has been a great partner over many years and this is another way that partnership has come to the forefront,” UGA athletic director Greg McGarity said. “We look forward to bringing this special game to our many fans in the WSB footprint around the state.”
Channel 2, WSB-TV is the No. 1-rated station in Atlanta. It is owned by Cox Media Group (CMG), which also owns and operates the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and AJC.com.

Why should they stay in the FCS, they have done all they can there. Six National Titles. They need to move on. They are expanding the stadium by 20,000 after the season. Georgia Southern could beat Vandy and Ga. Tech for sure.

Because…of all that HISTORY is why I say stay in the FCS…..They know the system they play well in the FCS system and it will be a HARD Step-up. The recruiting in roads to compete with the SEC teams and TECH in the state is going to be very difficult.

I don’t think they will have ANY trouble recruiting against Tech

GSU FAN…why? You have the easier Majors but if a kid likes the Triple Option and the FCS then GaSou wouldn’t be a good choice. CPJ does it better than CJM at GaSou.

Hey GSU Fan,
For what it’s worth, GSU is really Georgia State Univ., not you guys. Since they have been a university a lot longer. ( SInce early 1960’s, I believe.) You can call your school GSU if you insist, but to most people, it is still Georgia Southern. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Games from all over the country are available here in Savannah but Comcast isn’t carrying UGA vs GSU.
Expect to see a lot more dishes in south Georgia.
_______________________
Dump Comcast; they’re the WORST! DirecTV is the best of the dish providers. For those of us not in the WSB “footprint,” today’s UGA game is available on Espn Game Plan–Channel 792 on DirecTV–but as is the case with most Game Plan telecasts, it’s not in HD. It also costs $$$.
The WSB coverage will have technical glitches and lousy announcers, but that’s what you get when you pay for Ws by bringing overmatched opponents to your house. In any event, it’s always good to see a local station step up when situations like this arise, so a tip of the cap to WSB.

Mike Franklin,
Georgia Southern IS NOT a SMALL SCHOOL! They have 22,000 students, and a campus 50 acres bigger than UGA. Southern just voted to move to the FBS from the FBC in two years. This is not a little school.

The season is just about over, but just an FYI, the game was televised on ESPN3. Several of the games this year have been as well, although there have been blackout issues. The way we actually watched it was on our TV this way: Roku box using the PlayOn app (streams content straight from PC) and using their ESPN3 channel. Overall, worked pretty well.

I hope everyone enjoyed the TV broadcast from channel 2. At the stadium, the TV time outs were twice as long as the longest ESPN breaks. I for one vote for WSB staying away from televising sporting events independently.

Bob Neal is HORRIBLE! Half the time he thought he was calling a baseball game. The guy is an idiot, says idiotic things, states the obvious and does it horribly and almost never gets anything right – names, stats, etc. He’s painful to listen to.
I don’t have a radio or else I would have muted the TV to listen to radio broadcast.
