After Saturday upsets, Georgia can get national title shot by winning out

And just like that, Georgia controls its own destiny for a national title shot.

Same for Alabama. That’s the end result of Saturday’s BCS chaos.

How do you think Georgia will close out 2012 season.

No. 1 Kansas State (52-24 to Baylor) and No. 2 Oregon (17-14 in overtime to Stanford) went down in major upsets. That means No. 3 Notre Dame will move up to No. 1 in next week’s BCS standings and No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia should slide up right behind at 2 and 3, respectively.

If the Bulldogs (10-1) and Crimson Tide (10-1) can get to the SEC Championship game unscathed — each must survive rival games against Georgia Tech and Auburn, respectively, next Saturday — it will turn the Dec. 1 Georgia Dome classic into a BCS championship semifinal. The winner advances to the title game, giving the SEC a shot at a seventh consecutive national championship.

ESPN college football analyst and BCS expert Brad Edwards predicted that Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia would take over the top three spots when the new rankings come ouot at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Notre Dame has never been ranked No. 1 in the BCS era.

Georgia’s players were paying attention and took to Twitter to share their feelings.

Shortly after Stanford pulled off the second upset of the night, quarterback Aaron Murray sent out this tweet from his Twitter account, @aaronmurray11: “Yesssssssssssss!!!!!! The Murray household just went crazyyyyy!!!!!! #dawgsontop” Murray lives with teammates Dustin Royston, Artie Lynch, Ty Frix and Christian Robinson.

A short time later, All-American outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, aka @SacManJones_29, tweeted: “TURNT up.. Leggo BULLDAWG NATION!!”

Others:

  • “Thank you Baylor thank you Stanford.” — Cornerback Sanders Commings (@SandersCommings)
  • “I just did have a heart attack.” — Wide receiver Chris Conley (@CCon_TreUno)
  • “Let’s take care of business! Playoffs start now!” – Wide receiver Rhett McGowan (@KinG_WooT_17)

Georgia defeated Georgia Southern 45-14 Saturday to improve to 10-1 on the season. The Bulldogs have already secured the Eastern Division’s berth into the SEC Championship game. But first they have to get by archrival Georgia Tech (6-4), which visits Athens next Saturday for a noon kickoff.

on a “bulldawg” forum you still can’t get a majority to say UGA will win it all.

That says something.

ND hasn’t played a top5 team and both Ga and Al have played two apiece. Everyone knows Stanford scored on that play. Weak schedule same as O.

There is nothing more fun than steal the unearned joy of a UGA fan.

I actually like UGA. Can’t stand the fans. :D

So it is fun to throw stats up in your face and watch your dreams collide with reality.

I’ll be here most of the night, maybe. The AL.com threads are better.

@RTR 705PM, so you think a bunch of Crimson Tide fans arrogantly boasting about how they would blow T A&M out before the game is a sign of confidence and intelligence? I would rather have fans who realize we can lose to GT if we don’t prepare well and bring our A game! You can be an arrogant, bombastic, blowhard if you want, though. Humility is a better trait and one Bear Bryant modeled.

Here’s a crazy but possible scenario: Fla beats Fla St., SC beats ND, and the 3rd ranked SEC team gets a bye into the NC game while 1 & 2 (Ga & AL) have a play-in game in the SEC championship.

You boys ought to try something radically different, how about a “blackout”??? LMAO at the Mutts, Richt will find a way to make sure that Georgia remains the same overrated, hapless posers when it gets down to the nut cuttin’!!! Roll Tide and keep dreaming.

There is a real scenario where UGA plays UF in the NATTY GAME……
..that would set the nation off. Although they don’t deserve it, would be a great story.

Just seemed as if the two big upsets were a sign that BCS championship was in the stars for the Dawgs! If Notre Dame gets upset by USC, I will be convinced of it.

Regardles of which SEC team plays – if Notre Dame is in the NC game, the Domers will be humiliated. Just another example of the press creating a team’s worth wit h bogus opinions. Does anybody really think ND would have a chance against ANY of the top ten teams? Notre Dame is #1 because the media wants a MARQUEE matchup. Their WORST nightmare is for Georgia to play in the NCG. I say: GO DAWGS!GIVE ‘ EM HE## ! And here’s a scenario for you: what if UGA or ‘Bama wins or loses the SEC CG on a last minute field goal AFTER a ND loss to USC next week? Will there be a re- match ala
Bama / LSU

It’s obvious it’s the bitter Techies who constantly post these tiring posts on arrests and Kemp. Why? If you want to dwell on football crime just look to your own program : a drug ring ring being run out of the locker room, a dozen players booted for academic fraud, loss of institutional control resulting in a stripped title, QB’S who were accepted into your academically elite fortress that cannot count to four? The list is endless. And we won’t even get into the bombs found in the student quadrangle or the fact students need police escorts to get to class safely. What is it you’re trying to say? That Tech is the land of Oz. Only YOU GUYS are stupid enough to believe that. Here’s a hint: look in hour own closet before going through anybody else’s. You’ll find plenty there to entertain yourselves with.
