After Saturday upsets, Georgia can get national title shot by winning out

And just like that, Georgia controls its own destiny for a national title shot.

Same for Alabama. That’s the end result of Saturday’s BCS chaos.

How do you think Georgia will close out 2012 season.

No. 1 Kansas State (52-24 to Baylor) and No. 2 Oregon (17-14 in overtime to Stanford) went down in major upsets. That means No. 3 Notre Dame will move up to No. 1 in next week’s BCS standings and No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia should slide up right behind at 2 and 3, respectively.

If the Bulldogs (10-1) and Crimson Tide (10-1) can get to the SEC Championship game unscathed — each must survive rival games against Georgia Tech and Auburn, respectively, next Saturday — it will turn the Dec. 1 Georgia Dome classic into a BCS championship semifinal. The winner advances to the title game, giving the SEC a shot at a seventh consecutive national championship.

ESPN college football analyst and BCS expert Brad Edwards predicted that Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia would take over the top three spots when the new rankings come ouot at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Notre Dame has never been ranked No. 1 in the BCS era.

Georgia’s players were paying attention and took to Twitter to share their feelings.

Shortly after Stanford pulled off the second upset of the night, quarterback Aaron Murray sent out this tweet from his Twitter account, @aaronmurray11: “Yesssssssssssss!!!!!! The Murray household just went crazyyyyy!!!!!! #dawgsontop” Murray lives with teammates Dustin Royston, Artie Lynch, Ty Frix and Christian Robinson.

A short time later, All-American outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, aka @SacManJones_29, tweeted: “TURNT up.. Leggo BULLDAWG NATION!!”

Others:

  • “Thank you Baylor thank you Stanford.” — Cornerback Sanders Commings (@SandersCommings)
  • “I just did have a heart attack.” — Wide receiver Chris Conley (@CCon_TreUno)
  • “Let’s take care of business! Playoffs start now!” – Wide receiver Rhett McGowan (@KinG_WooT_17)

Georgia defeated Georgia Southern 45-14 Saturday to improve to 10-1 on the season. The Bulldogs have already secured the Eastern Division’s berth into the SEC Championship game. But first they have to get by archrival Georgia Tech (6-4), which visits Athens next Saturday for a noon kickoff.

Long ways to go. That team better be thinking of nothing but tech this week. Lose to them and they’ll be a laughing stock in the SEC. And there goes the NC shot. Again, coaching will be key here. They have to focus on one game at a time. This week – Beat tech!

This is going to be so funny,
Notre Dame loses to USC
Georgia beats Techies
Florida manages to somehow squeak by the criminoles
Then bama crushes dawgs in Atlanta
Then all of a sudden it’s Alabama/Florida for the National Championship once again and order is restored.

First thimgs first. UGA will need to roundly thump GT in Athens. UGA can do this by controlling BOTH lines of scrimmage. UGA will need to administer mega double doses of Keith Marshall and Todd GURLEY. UGA will need to play fake the GT D into bei g frozen, then hit Conley, McGowan, and TAVARRES King and their TEs over and over for TDs and moving the chains.

Final should be UGA 32-17

After this,Mae then discuss Alabama. First things first, clowns.

Was impressed with the way we handled the option against GS and hope it bodes well for us against Tech. But we have to be ready to play and not looking ahead. Bama can be had but it will take our best game in 4 years to do it. I cannot express how badly I’d like to beat the Tide because they’ve been a pain in our “arse” for some time now. Go Dawgs!

Give us our due Gators and Gamecocks – we got it done and we now control our own destiny. These boys are going to be on fire Saturday…Tech has no chance – NONE. Ga. So. runs a better option than Tech. Our defense will not be intimadted by Bama’s offense and Murray is a better QB. Can we win the next two? Oh, HeXX yes. These boys will be ready….the day of the Dawgs is here! GO YOU HAIRY DAWGS!!!!!

I’m a little torn. On the one hand, I know we need a big win over the Nerd herd to impress the voters and keep pace in the BCS race. On the other hand, I just can’t help but dream about the gut wrenching pain that a close loss to the Dawgs causes the dorks on North Avenue. I’ve always said I’d rather beat them by 1 point than by 50 points. It just crushes their spirit.

This is quite the quandry. I guess we’ll have to see what happens.

“turnt up”? “I just did have a heart attack”? Nice reflection on the quality of “student” athlete at UGA. But whatever, I would rather laugh at the possibility of wrecking UGA’s BCS chance! What would be even better would to see Tech beat UGA and then UGA beat Alabama and get to watch the LSU or K-St pass them to play Notre Dame!! I admit, its a long shot, but this season has been a strange one…Knock yourselves out with come backs doggies, I am gone and won’t read them!

THE DOOR IS OPEN NOW! This is a 2 game playoff for Georgia. Get caught looking ahead and youll be heading to athens wondering how you lost to Ga Tech. Not one player can predict the outcome of next weeks season finale against Tech.
They would love nothing better than running the ball down the Dawgs defense throat and embarrasing them on national TV and infront of their friends and family.
If i was a defensive player on Georgia i’d focus on stopping Techs running game and come into that game entirely focused and pumped up.
Hey look Dawgs, no one is going to respect you until you start dominating games and act like a #3 team and not a top 25 team.
You have a chance to do something that hasnt been done in over 30 years and thats to play in a BCS game.
But 1st you have to dethrone Alabama to get there. After seeing Texas A&M beat them i realized that they are mortal and bleed like everyone else does. This is where and nows the time for our defense to rise up and be something that many thought you werent.
Only once this year did i see a glimpse of a dominating defense that was so focused to win and that was against Florida.
The Football Gods have given you a KEY to enter that final door but 1st you must prove yourself worthy and beat the enemies that lie infront of you to move forward.
No you dont have to play your best game but youve got to play better than them to win.
You can decide who you are and drop the key and watch that other SEC School play the game of a lifetime from your dorm and look back at your mistakes and the what-ifs in life or you can want it more than the other team and DOMINATE the game.
Its that simple………..nobody remembers 2nd place but here is a chance to become a part of something special that you will always be remembered by fans for years to come.
Its put up or shut up time and limping into the SEC Championship Game is nothing spectacular but winning big makes your foe think about it more.
Dont just beat Tech, dominate all facets of the game and show everyone in America who you are and why youre deservant of going not only to the SEC Championship game but playing for all the marbles in the BCS.
IS THIS YOUR YEAR?

I really like Georgia’s chances this year; HOWEVER, we have got to beat TECH and Bama to get to the BCS CG.
DO NOT TAKE TECH LIGHTLY!
Paul Johnson will have the Yellow Jackets ready to try and knock off an over-confident/undisciplined Georgia team.

I really think Georgia matches up well against a great Bama team. Everyone forgets that while BAMA has a lot of talent and is a great team, they lost tons of talent after last year.

All we can ask for as Georgia fans is a CHANCE to go all of the way. Our destiny is in OUR hands.

side note: I think EVERYONE last night saw that those West Coast teams and others have WEAK schedules. ND has beaten NO ONE and they barely escaped a loss to a bad PITT team.

As usual, ND is overrated just like Kstate and Oregon. Who have these teams played that are so great???

One game at a time…UGA needs to beat Tech first, which wil not be as easy as a lot of people think. Then, if we beat Tech, I’m afraid we will lose by double digits to Bama. I hate to say it, but they have a superior coaching staff to ours and will have their guys ready to play. I’m just not convinced UGA will ever win a national championship with the current coaching staff. I hope I’m wrong.

I think there are gonna be a lot of sad Dawgs come December. There’s no way they beat the Tide for two reasons. First, Bama won’t be coming off a physical beating like the endured in Baton Rouge the week before the A&M game. Second, Georgia’s offense is much easier for a good, disciplined defense like Bama’s to prepare for. There’s no Johnny Football to run around while receivers break routes and find open spaces.

“Dreams from their father” wrote one Tech Fan. On his death bed a father of great wealth and fame with family gathered around told his only son of a great dream he had one night.
A Yellow Jacket Team so immense and profained that even when they ran onto the field before the game that the ground shook and rumbled scaring the opposing team.
That opposing team was the Mighty Bulldog Team , a firece competitor of its own and how their faces looked as the white and yellow team announced their presence running onto the field.
Just as the father wished and prayed for his team showed up but lost that game by 45 points.
So upset he infact woke up from that dream and shouted to hte heavens “why why must you punish me “?
The answer was simple said the voice ” The Yellow Team is so bad id have to have help giving you that miracle” and so on his dying bed the father handed his son the hopes of all Tech Fans a gold Remote Control.
His last words was “now i pass this dream onto you my son” and passed away.

Hoping our Dawgs make it to the NC, but what a great finish to the college football season overall!

We know as long as UGA and Bama both finish with wins next week, the winner of that game goes on to the NC…

But, if Notre Dame loses, it will be crazy to see who then matches up in the title game…

Here’s a thought: If Florida State takes down the Gators, and then wins the ACC championship game, does an 11-1 FSU jump the 9-2 teams ahead of them to the title game??

Or, if UF beats FSU, and ND loses, does UGA then get a rematch with UF in the title game?? LOL

Even Oregon probably has a shot to make it back in because they won’t fall too far down the line…

Infinite possibilities still out there…

I watched the second half of the Baylor game (after a wedding which interfered with my football watching), and I’d like to congratulate their team for a great and memorable victory. Their level of enthusiasm was wonderful, and they were having so much fun playing the game. It made me realize why I love college football so much.

K State didn’t seem to have any defense, which helped Baylor. I’ve not been following K State, so maybe they just had an aberrant night.

Stanford played very well, too. Controlling their destiny must be sweet for them.

I don’t see an Oregon team having lost to Stanford yesterday not dropping below two SEC teams. Does anyone imagine the BCS now ranking ND #1 and Oregon #2? Wouldn’t that be the pits! I can’t see it. If Oregon is ranked #3 behind Alabama. I might prefer that to seeing UGA ranked #3; it builds a little hotter motivation fire for UGA. Still, it would be silly of the BCS to rank Oregon #2.

There’s no way ND is going to lose to USC. I don’t want them to anyway. They need to have an opportunity to see what they can or can’t do in a game against an SEC opponent. And, it sure looks like the SEC Champion will play ND this year, doesn’t it.

I think ND could beat either Alabama or UGA. It’s always a matter of how the teams play. I would make either SEC team a favorite (and Texas A&M, and LSU, and South Carolina) over ND.

Now, all that is – as we all know – pure fantasy! We have to get past the mighty bugs from the trade school first. According to me, that means we’d best be thinking of them as mighty tough, too, because that’s likely to be the way they play us. I’ve been watching the UGA game against Georgia Tech for a long time now, and anybody that thinks a bad Tech team can’t beat a good Georgia team (and vice versa) hasn’t been paying attention. Besides, this isn’t really that bad a Tech team, and just how good the Georgia team really is has yet to be decided.

I’m as excited as the next Dawg Fan! However, we could lose to Tech (I don’t think we will). We could lose to Alabama. And, we could lose to any team you can think of in a krappy bowl if we do lose one or both of those games. Wouldn’t that make this season look terrible, and this team look as bad as anyone thought it might be after the South Carolina game? We’ve still got a lot to prove.

Am I bad mouthing my Bulldogs? Heck, no, I’m not. But, let’s let some air out of the hot air balloon and be realistic about all this. As Texas A&M proved, and Stanford, and Baylor confirmed, any team can beat any team.

Our single elimination playoffs have just started! Georgia Tech is the first opponent. The only game that matters is Georgia Tech. Everything else is fantasy.

One more thing: I certainly understand that we blew it against South Carolina. They are entitled to celebrate that game, and are bad sports enough to do it here. I still would like them to beat Clemson, and help Georgia, on the field of play, prove what we all believe, that the SEC is vastly superior to the ACC.

We can beat Tech, Alabama, and ND. Will we? It’s up to our team.

It’s time to see if Aaron Murray can really win the Big Game. If he wins out his UGA legacy is assured.

Even Mark Richt and Mike Bobo have a shot a redeeming themselves.

I don’t mind a bit if Alabama or UGA are accused of backing into a championship game. K State lost. Oregon lost. Sorry, boys. Chances are the SEC will, once again, win it all.

What a great day to be a University of Georgia Bulldog.

Go, Dawgs!

This is great news and all, but the Dawgs’ next two opponents are gonna be tough. Tech’s offense is playing great right now, and look at how much trouble GSU’s not-quite-as-fast, not-quite-as-strong version of the triple-option gave us. Remember a few years ago when UGA was 6-5 going into the game, while Tech was 10-1 and had an outside shot at the title game? “We run this state” happened…

And their loss to A&M notwithstanding, ‘Bama is a beast.
