And just like that, Georgia controls its own destiny for a national title shot.
Same for Alabama. That’s the end result of Saturday’s BCS chaos.
No. 1 Kansas State (52-24 to Baylor) and No. 2 Oregon (17-14 in overtime to Stanford) went down in major upsets. That means No. 3 Notre Dame will move up to No. 1 in next week’s BCS standings and No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia should slide up right behind at 2 and 3, respectively.
If the Bulldogs (10-1) and Crimson Tide (10-1) can get to the SEC Championship game unscathed — each must survive rival games against Georgia Tech and Auburn, respectively, next Saturday — it will turn the Dec. 1 Georgia Dome classic into a BCS championship semifinal. The winner advances to the title game, giving the SEC a shot at a seventh consecutive national championship.
ESPN college football analyst and BCS expert Brad Edwards predicted that Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia would take over the top three spots when the new rankings come ouot at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Notre Dame has never been ranked No. 1 in the BCS era.
Georgia’s players were paying attention and took to Twitter to share their feelings.
Shortly after Stanford pulled off the second upset of the night, quarterback Aaron Murray sent out this tweet from his Twitter account, @aaronmurray11: “Yesssssssssssss!!!!!! The Murray household just went crazyyyyy!!!!!! #dawgsontop” Murray lives with teammates Dustin Royston, Artie Lynch, Ty Frix and Christian Robinson.
A short time later, All-American outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, aka @SacManJones_29, tweeted: “TURNT up.. Leggo BULLDAWG NATION!!”
Others:
Georgia defeated Georgia Southern 45-14 Saturday to improve to 10-1 on the season. The Bulldogs have already secured the Eastern Division’s berth into the SEC Championship game. But first they have to get by archrival Georgia Tech (6-4), which visits Athens next Saturday for a noon kickoff.

It’s nice to see things working out for us, but we still have to earn our way with wins over Tech and Alabama, neither of which will be easy. Tech would love nothing more than to ruin our dreams. We better get ready for their best punch.

Georgia is guaranteed to be good at one thing: choking in big games. And there will be no bigger game in recent memory than Bama vs. Georgia if a shot at the BCS Title is on the line. If a miracle happened and the Dawgs won, I do think we could be Notre Dame. They are way overrrated.

What kind of system allows a team that lost to South Carolina by 5 TDs to be ranked 3rd ? Behind all of the Kool-Aid driven drunkeness we will hear from dawgdom next week is a team that has proven it can be demolished. We all know that CMR can’t handle this.

It would be super hillarious if you lost to tech, then beat bama and knocked both of you out of a shot, but more than likely, you will beat Tech and be steamrolled by Alabama and play Wisconsin in the capital one bowl

How great it would be to have a rerun of Jan. 1, 1981: Georgia vs. Notre Dame playing for the national championship, with the Dawgs prevailing. I wouldn’t even mind a duplicate score: 17-10, favoring UGA.
Of course, if it winds up being some other team as the opponent, that’s OK. As long as Georgia has another national title, that’s what matters most.
To borrow a phrase from Larry Munson, it seems like Lady Luck is smiling on the Bulldogs after all.

In a pretty good spot, Coach Richt. Stay focused:
1. Don’t forget Georgia Tech. They would LOVE to pull the upset.
2. PLEASE have the team focused and ready to play hard from the opening kickoff. You damn sure know Alabma will be. We can’t have that “take a quarter or two to get going” crap.
3. Please don’t say a single damn word about what ANYBODY…the team or the fans…should be wearing to the game.

And Lou Holtz then says only reason SEC will be in BCSC game is because Ohio St is on probation. Would he have said that if S Carolina was still in it? Bama or UGA would beat ND & he knows it.

eddie..I think alabama has played in the dome more often than UGA..but hey I don;t have a dog or elephant in this fight, I hate ya both equally..just glad to see nobody will end the SEC domination without having to beat an SEC team..if they do that in the national championship game, then they have earned it. A team that goes 12-0 without playing a decent schedule hasn’t
