AUBURN, Ala. – The Dogs are back in the Dome. But that’s not the end-goal this time around.

With a resounding 38-0 win over Auburn Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium, No. 5-ranked Georgia clinched a berth in the SEC Championship game for a second year in a row.

The Bulldogs (9-1, 7-1 SEC) closed out the conference season tied with Florida (9-1, 7-1) as SEC Eastern Division champions. But they will represent the East  in the Georgia Dome on Dec. 1 based on their 17-9 win over the Gators on Oct. 27. South Carolina (8-2, 6-2), which beat Georgia 35-7 on Oct. 6, finishes third in the East.

“This feels great,” senior safety Bacarri Rambo said. “This is what all the seniors and everybody that stayed out of the NFL came back for. We still haven’t finished. This is just a ticket to the Dome. Now we’ve got to go there and handle business.”

Said sophomore wideout Malcolm Mitchell: “This is everything we worked for. But, then again, we’ve got to remember getting there is not enough. We’ve got to win it. So we’ve still got a lot prepare for.”

Georgia lost to LSU 42-10 after leading 10-0 in the SEC title game last year. Coach Mark Richt was asked if he thought the Bulldogs might have a better shot this time around.

“We’ll just see,” he said. “I’m not going to predict what’s going to happen. I’ll just say we want to play better this time. Atlanta is not the end of the road, we hope.”

The Bulldogs will play Alabama in the SEC title game if the Crimson Tide can beat Auburn on Nov. 24. No. 1-ranked Bama (9-1, 6-1) was upset by No. 15 Texas A&M Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It will be the fifth time Georgia has played in the SEC Championship game since Mark Richt became its coach in 2001. The Bulldogs also won the SEC championship in 2005 and played in the title game in 2003 and 2011. The Bulldogs had never played in the title game before Richt’s arrival.

Richt said the Bulldogs “didn’t get caught up in” what was happening up the road in Tuscaloosa.

“We’re just very thankful to have the opportunity to go back to Atlanta,” Richt said in a room outside Georgia’s victorious locker room. “We’re excited about winning the East, there’s no doubt about that. Be we know there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

Georgia clinched this berth the same place it clinched its first one under Richt. It was the 10th anniversary of the game in which quarterback David Greene hit Michael Johnson with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass on fourth-and-14 in 2002. Georgia went on to win the overall SEC title that season.

Saturday was the 12th time the Bulldogs clinched an SEC title against Auburn, which they for the 116th time in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. It was Georgia’s sixth win in the last seven games in the series and ties it overall at 54-54-8.

“We’re not satisfied,” senior wide receiver Tavarres King said. “We know we’ve got bigger things ahead of us. We’re not going to look past Georgia Southern or Georgia Tech, but we know what lies ahead. We want to win that thing. Last year I think getting there was kind of our destiny. This year it’s win it. We want to be SEC champions and hopefully that’s what will happen.”

Murray quieted the crowd quickly. The Bulldogs’ junior completed his first 10 passes of the game and threw for 186 yards in the first half, with touchdown passes to three different receivers – Chris Conley, Malcolm Mitchell and King (who was wearing the No. 15 jersey of injured teammate Marlon Brown). The Bulldogs scored on their first four possessions of the game on drives of 76, 80, 64 and 90 yards. Including last year’s four-TD passing performance, Murray is 32-of-42 for 432 yards and 7 TDs the last two seasons against Auburn.

Georgia also got 100-yard rushing games and single touchdowns from freshman tailbacks Todd Gurley (11-116) and Keith Marshall (8-105). Marshall had a 62-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

Georgia’s defense did its part. They entered the fourth quarter having allowed just one touchdown and four field goals in the last three games. The Tigers had only 34 yards rushing on 19 carries and 153 total yards when the starters exited the game early in the fourth quarter.

Jarvis Jones added two sacks in the first half, giving him 10.5 on the season, 3.5 short of the school record. Safety Bacarri Rambo had an interception, giving him 15 for his career.

“We’re playing some good ball right now,” Jones said. “We’ve just got to keep doing it every week to be the best.

This year’s clincher was considerably easy for the Bulldogs. They kicked off to open the game, then scored on their first four offensive possessions to build a 28-0 first-half lead. Georgia didn’t punt until there was just 30 seconds remaining in the first half, and only then after tight end Arthur Lynch dropped what would have been a first-down catch.

“We knew we had to come in here and try to get on them early and try to put some points on the board,” said Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who had completed 18-of-24 passes for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns when he left the game late in the third quarter” Trying to get their fans out of it was the biggest thing. When you play away games, if you can get the crowd out of the game that’s huge. We were able to do that early and make some big plays.”

The dynamics are decidedly different on The Plains. Just two years after winning a national championship, Auburn’s Gene Chizik is coaching amid multiple reports that he will be dismissed at season’s end.

The discontent is understandable. The Tigers fell to 2-8 for the first time in 60 years and dropped to 0-7 in SEC play, also for the the first time since 1952. The Tigers were 1-7 in league play under Terry Bowden in 1998 and 0-6 in Sonny Barfield’s last season in 1980.

“I don’t entertain those thoughts,” Chizik said of his tenure possibly being over. “I have only one quest . . . and that is getting our seniors ready to play their last game at home and trying to get a win.”

The mood could not have been more different in the visiting locker room. There the Bulldogs were daring to dream about winning the SEC championship three weeks hence. The All-American Jones was asked why he thinks it might be different this time.

“We’ve matured since last year,” he said. “I think we understand the game better. We got that feeling, that taste of the SEC last year. We know we’re capable of beating any team from the West. We’re focused and we’ve got goals. Last year our goal was to make it to the SEC. This year we’re looking past that. We don’t want to just get there. We want to win it.”

I feel bad for Vad Lee in two weeks… Coach PJ will probably be pitching the idea that keeping it within 35 points would be a moral victory. Tech better be careful, because if they keep down this path, Georgia State is going to supplant them as the 2nd best team in the state. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldawg!

UGA just won the ONLY division in the NATION with 3 TOP 10 RANKED TEAMS.

If UGA beats ALABAMA, UGA HAS to get into the BCS Championship.

No way Notre Dame, with their 5 wins of 7 or LESS points, is better than UGA.

No way K St or Oregon, who play 1 top 5 ranked teams, where UGA plays 3 are better than UGA.

If LSU got in with 2 losses, Bama got in last year wiht 1 loss, it would be GROSSLY UNFAIR to keep UGA out, especially when UGA plays in the ONLY dvision with THREE TOP TEN RANKED TEAMS.

LSU beat Auburn 12 to 10. Auburn is better than their record. And no, UNTIL UGA, shut them out.

I am ready for the NCAA playoff. What’s amazing to me is that Texas A & M is playing like the hottest team in the country after 2 early losses in close games. They have no shot at any sort of title. Georgia playing good ball. I love it when we get a shot to win it at the Dome. Win that one, and Sugar falls from the sky. Tell me, Alabama can’t be beaten?

Murray threw behind receivers on the first three touchdowns, but they caught them anyway …. then he got on track and was very good. Good game all around. In garbage time it would be nice to see the other quarterbacks get a chance to run the offense. But instead they were used to shorten the game. We’re so conservative that we lose these opportunities to build depth. Can’t see a reason to keep playing the first team defense and then not even try to make first downs on offense. Richt chose not to embarrass them further but I keep remembering the 2010 game.

It is unrealistic to think about a BCS title. Something crazy could happen, but I see Southern Cal beating Notre Dame the last week of the year. I can’t see anyone beating Oregon. Maybe Stanford, but I doubt it. Oregon runs Stanford and Oregon State outta the gym. K State looks great and has nobody left. So I’m betting on a KState vs Oregon title game. Georgia vs Alabama winner will go to the Sugar Bowl. I’d love to draw Notre Dame in that game and expose them.

Imagine Oregon vs. SEC Champ and K State vs Notre Dame in the 4 team BCS playoff. Then we could be getting excited about the National Title.

‘Our Team, Our Time, No Regrets’. We can’t regret that fateful nite in Columbia, because we are playing for the SEC Championship, which we all know is far more significant than the BCS. :-)

As for our matchup, BAMA will win this one handily in the 4th. UGA’s Oline is not elite. Murray chokes in big games. Both Prostyle offenses and 3/4 defenses. Bama will win the trenches and have superior coaching.

I’ve been telling everybody that Bama lost last week… they just got a break by Chavis backing off on that last drive. Bama is very beatable. If you have some balance and can get the ball downfield they are in trouble. They do not get to the passer. They get some pressure but they lack a dominant pass rusher. The Dawgs are their worst nightmare. We run the ball well and our receivers can beat their corners. Plus we run a hurry-up. They make mistakes when you force them out of their methodical defense. I really look forward to facing them in The Dome.
For now we have to take care of business and hope some November craziness opens up an opportunity. I think it is fortuitous that we get to play an option team to tune up for Tech. Part of their success comes from the fact so few teams do what they do offensively. If the Dawgs play smart against Ga Southern and get used to the option game it could be ugly against Tech. I think Southern’s defense may be better than theirs. LOL.
Go Dawgs! Win out and go into the SEC Championship 11-1. Then roll the dice.

If it went to a “three-way” tie, then, it would go to div. wins and losses (which gives steve spurrior a hard-on) and thus would put the Aggies in the dome their first year in the SEC lol which i’m glad isn’t happening. Had the div. wins and losses been tied between say , LSU and Aggies, it would go to who is ranked higher in the BCS. Been warning my Bama friend all week about that new team from Texas that plays D, and was the best offense that Bama faces in the regular season. Cant wait to see how Gurley/Marshall, Murray, and our still very talented recieving corps handles that Bama D..

Tide Roll, Blackoutanyone? And once again the supposedly best coach money can buy lays an egg on the big stage. Running game hailed as the best in college football would have been the better choice on the goal line there coach. Out coached by the one of the SEC’s newest teams. Sanan’s been throwing hints the past few weeks as excuses for his lack of coaching. One excuse aimed at the no- huddle offense, says its dangerous to defensive players? Also doesn’t give defense time to get set and substituting players is limited. Now it’s ” I’ve won 3 NC’s with a one loss team”. This is nothing more than begging for a second chance like last year. Bama’s schedule is weak and the past two weeks have exposed a team that’s 4th best or maybe 5th in the SEC. People talk about UGA not playing Bama or LSU from the west? Who did Bama get from the East? Mizzou and Tenn? Bama didn’t get the three top ten Gamecocks, Gators, or the Dawgs. Still a one loss Bama could come out ranked higher in the BCS on Sunday?

What they gonna do drop UGA down or even worst slide Bama way down. YES we need a playoff But still do ya’ll see where I’m coming from ? If you had a playoff right now who would be invited K st. Only a fan of GT would be stupid enough to say what you said. Crap, you won yesterday, but gave up 50 points in doing it and you talk about UGA’s defense. Your team can’t block against sub par defenses and can’t defense sub par offenses. Jarvis will be in your teams head after the first few plays your offense runs. Murray will pass you into a stupor after the first couple of offensive sets and our freshmen running backs will stomp all over your very weak defense. Most likely the game will be over by half time, much like that one on Saturday and Auburn is ahead of you in both performance and talent. UGA will go to a good bowl, and you can play in front of the El Paso crowd once again, in a completely meaningless game, against a completely meaningless 6-5 team. Chances are who ever that is will also beat you.
You need to go back to the tech. blog, if they ever have anything serious to blog about, and leave the football talk to true fans of a real football team. You and your team are irrelevant.

It would be very hard to accurately rank the best of the SEC right now, just like it’s very hard to accurately rank the BCS. Heck, who am I kidding. Both tasks are impossible. That’s why we need a real playoff.

One thing that makes college football so interesting is the fact that teams improve so much over the season. Case in point would be the UGA team that beat Hawaii. In that same vein, UGA may well be a much better team now than many teams which were better early on this year. I seriously doubt that we’d lose to South Carolina in a rematch next week. I also think we have a decent chance at beating Alabama.

Coach Saban and his staff got out coached yesterday, which was interesting. On any given Saturday, could Coach Richt’s coaching staff out coach the Alabama staff? As much of a fierce critic of Mark Richt as I’ve been, and as much of a harshly fierce critic of Mike Bobo as I’ve been, I’ve seen some signs of life in our coaching staff. Bobo looks like he may be beginning to develop towards a junior assistant offensive coordinator level; I mean that as a compliment, considering that he used to be worse than my old pee wee coach at play calling. Shoot, that coach was way better than the old Bobo, but now Bobo might be a bit better. Point being, coaching has been one of UGA’s Achilles heels, and it’s improving, whereas it may be moving in the wrong direction for Alabama. I suspect that’s too much a rose colored glasses view, but it’s a possibility.

Bama has definitely been exposed in the last two games though. Yesterday’s game was like the Buster Douglas fight for Mike Tyson. After Douglas whipped Tyson, everybody knew the blueprint. Can Alabama change the blueprint? We’ll see, won’t we. Can UGA show up for the championship game believing they can win? Can the UGA staff put together an aggressive game plan and make the need adjustments as the game progresses? Is our offensive line stout enough?

I’d trade a BCS championship game for a chance to play ND in the Sugar Bowl.

Go, Bulldawgs!

One game at a time. Georgia Southern is pretty good and will hang around a little while before rolling over – hopefully this one is in hand by the end of the first half. Tech is perhaps the most bizarre team in the NCAA this year. I think we can expect a difficult game from Tech, but Georgia’s defense matches up so well with their offense – I can’t see UGA slipping up here. Georgia wins.

Really wanted Alabama to win yesterday. You could clearly see that the were parts of their game that wasn’t at the level it was the last two years. And as hungry as Georgia will be in that game – I felt it was there for the taking. This game will be an absolute war now. But really do feel that this is the Dawgs year. (But neither will make it to the NCS Game).

Oregon and KSU are no going to lose and they have played tough enough schedules to get the points needed to get in.

The voters are tired of the SEC and are looking for reasons to put someone else in there.

Auburn’s weak performance this year actualy hurts both Alabama and Georgia

Is what it is… Reminds you of 2002. At the end of the year, Georgia was playing better Football then both Ohio State and MIami. That’s life…

The upside, if they win out – it keeps the team on a roll and it that should allow the team to finish strong in recruiting.

Fun to be on the optimistic side of things verses a couple of years ago…

Oregon is all offense. When Auburn played them for the NC, it was stated that Auburn was the bottom teir team of all the recent SEC N.C. teams. Who has N.Dame played that is relevant? Who in the hell outside of Southbend cares they are undefeated? Kansas State, are you for real? They play no conference championship game, and who is their biggest win over??? This is how i see it
1) Oregon
2) Alabama
3) Georgia
4) Kansas State
5) Texas A&M
6) Notre Dame

BCS : Voters : and all other potential button pushers I have 1 question for you. What division has more top ten teams than any other in the BCS? I rest my case…..

BCS Champ is about the BEST TEAM.

Notre Dame can’t score, they have no offense.
Oregon can’t defend, they have no defense.

UGA, Bama, and K St, all have a top defense AND offense.

The winner of the UGA-Bama game meets K St to figure out who has the best TEAM.

That’s what SHOULD happen.

AJ

November 11th, 2012

Notre Dame’s offense is offensive, they rank 74 in scoring.

Oregon’s defense is offensive, they rank 54th in total yards.

UGA, Bama, and Georgia are the only 3 complete TEAMS in the country with a top 20 ranked defense AND offense.

Notre Dame has LIMPED into their wins:

20-17 over pURDUE????
13-6 over Michigan?
20-13 over Stand? overtime.
17-14 over BYU?
29-26 over Pitt? 3 overtimes.

That’s NOT playing CHAMPIONSHIP football.

where are all the bama fans that love to toot their own horn about how great thou art…I mean I guess we can’t blame them, they have been pretty successful…but what amazes me is the constant bashing of our program, which in truth has not been elite as they have…also, they may whip us in the SEC title game….but the dawgs will show up, I can promise you that….but again where are all the bama bashers that love to call out our program…Bama is a very good program and Coach Saban is a great coach, but guess what Bama fans, the dawgs program is pretty good also, and we have a great coach also….

Actually it would have been great to play an undefeated bama team in the SEC title game, but so hard to through kudos at you guys during this great run you have had, but most of you feel the need to ridicule ares and other programs because you see us as inferior,…Well, we may or may not beat you guys in the SEC title game, but our program is coming and we will continue be a force to deal with just as the gators, LSU, and now Texas AM will….Anyway looking forward to playing bama in the SEC game…should be a good one…go dawgs

Now that we shutout the sorry War Tigers we gets to put a same types of whooping on the Crimson Crud. That will teach them to not recruit our players in Georgia cause Dawgs own state and players in state. The Tidey Bowls played like a losser and now Dawgs get to show why we best in SEC. Win over Roll Turds will put Dawgs in BCS where we can claim national champs. This year working out just like we should with Coach Richt and Dawgs. And then that proves how being Christian helps winning.

Go Dawgs! Sick E’m!

Why do UGA fans spend so much time acting like you deserve some credit for playing in the SEC?!

- You didn’t have to play Alabama, LSU, or Texas A&M.
- You’ve played 2 ranked teams all year. Lost by 28 to South Carolina and it took Florida handing you that game for you to “upset” them.
- You won the East, congrats. The teams you beat in the East have a combined conference record of 19 (2 winless SEC teams) – 24.
- You’re out-of-conference schedule was Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, FCS Georgia Southern, and Georgia Tech.

Unless you are one of the SEC teams that’s ACTUALLY WON a national title in this run (Bama, Florida, Auburn, LSU), the only thing the other SEC schools have done is ride the coat tails of those teams.

Look, I’m not saying Georgia is good or bad. You play the games for a reason. But, why be so critical of other teams when what you’ve done isn’t that terribly impressive?! K-State, ND, and Oregon are ahead of you because they are undefeated. By the end of the season it’ll all play out. Until then, take care of your own business, and stop worrying about dragging down others. If UGA fans weren’t so good at that, more people peobably would be more supportive of them.

I’m pretty much about sick and effing tired of hearing about how we “backed in” to the SEC Title game. If you’re going to make that argument you also need to talk about Alabama who conveniently avoided the 3 best teams from the SEC East this year in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, all of whom are Top 10 teams. LSU had to play South Carolina and Florida. A&M had to play Florida. Alabama got Tennessee and Missouri. Now that we know Bama isn’t quite the unstoppable force that we all thought, it would seem to me that this “backing in” to the SECCG line would apply with equal force to their SEC West title. It would unless you are completely full of crap.

Thanks.

If this team doesn’t get intimidated, they can beat any team in the country. Good luck to the coaching staff to get the team ready to play. CMR has beaten Saban before, but that was before took over CMR’s body back around 2006. This DAWG team is loaded with stars, so take it to ‘em boys. My dream would be to beat BAMA then, if not playing for NC, play South Carolina again in a bowl.

Wake me up when UGA beats a quality opponent

November 11th, 2012

Clearly some UGA fans are in denial about this football team. Beating up on bad teams does not make UGA a title contender. UGA has no shot at beating Alabama. You got blown out by the only quality opponent you played but now that you have racked up wins against scrub teams, all the sudden you feel deserving of a title shot? Get real! Its the same crap with you clowns every year. Its quite sad, actually. Championship teams don’t get blown out by 30 to inferior teams from South Carolina.

If Kansas State plays Oregon for the National title I hope that either, South Carolina, Georgia , L.S.U. or Alabama will get to play NOTRE DAME in the Sugar Bowl so we will expose just how easy their schedule really was this year.
I can’t believe Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Alabama in the AP poll. Would anyone really bet their house straight up on an Alabama verses Notre Dame game right now. Notre Dame is barely beating teams right now with 3, 4, 5 loses.

Aaron Murray haters- FYI, he’s #3 nationally in passing efficiency @ 107.7 (behind Marcus Mariota and Taj Boyd) and #1 in yards per attempt @9.7 (tied w/Collin Klein and EJ Manuel). Pretty elite company, no? OK, but he doesn’t make a lot of yards rushing like Manziel (whose passing stats are way back there somewhere…)

All I know is that Johnny Football is probably going to win a national championship in the next 2-3 years. Texas A&M is a great addition to the SEC. They were good last year and added an absolute stud QB and a great coach right in time for the SEC debut.

Bama/UGA should be a pretty good game. That Bama D is more disciplined than UGA, but less talented. As Pollack said on GameDay, when you watch them it is still a very good D, but not nearly as talented as the last three years (turns out losing 5 top-40 picks makes a difference). UGA has amazing talent, but sometimes loses focus. If Murray plays a solid, nearly mistake-free game and UGA can keep Lacy from gashing it, UGA has a good chance.
