Aaron Murray says balance and footwork -- not nerves -- led to his poor first-half performance against Florida. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)
ATHENS — Aaron Murray is every bit the video junkie. But unlike normal, he dreaded getting up this past Sunday morning to head over to the football complex to review the tape of Georgia’s game against Florida.
Well, the first half at least.
“It was not good,” Murray said, but smiling and laughing as he did. “I tried not to go in but I had to get in here and watch the film. Definitely, there were some errors.”
Definitely.
The Bulldogs’ record-setting quarterback was breaking some personal records on infamy as he threw three interceptions in the opening two quarters against Florida. But Murray rebounded with a 45-yard touchdown pass in the second half and Georgia held on for decisive 17-9 win over the Gators.
Murray’s final line was not one of his better ones: 12-of-24 passing for 150 yards, 1 TD and 3 interceptions. But coming out with the victory helped salve any wounds Murray might have felt.
“It’s definitely one of the top ones for me, regardless of personal stats in the game,” said Murray, who hails from Tampa and was heavily recruited by the Gators. “All that doesn’t matter. I play to win games and that win was probably the biggest one I’ve ever been a part of since I’ve been here.”
While Murray contributed significantly to winning the game, his performance against the Gators continued a trend of struggle in big games against elite defenses. That’s certainly not unusual; the best defenses are going to make quarterback look worse – but a lot of Murray’s mistakes against Florida weren’t necessarily made under the duress pressure. They were simply bad reads or bad throws, neither of which Murray normally does much.
The first one Murray tried to force into triple coverage, the second was badly overthrown and the third was delivered late and off target over the middle. Here’s Murray’s explanations:
Murray said his film study revealed it was mainly a matter of fundamentals. His tendency is to get off balance and neglect his footwork, which he is concentrating on improving in practice this week. But there is also evidence that Murray may be a little too pumped up and/or pressing in the Bulldogs’ most important games.
In his two games against Top 10 opponents South Carolina and Florida this season, Murray has completed 23 of 55 of passes (41.8 percent) for 259 yards and 1 touchdown with 4 interceptions. In his games against everybody else this season, Murray has completed 129 of 168 passes for 1,805 yards and 16 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions.
He has thrown 7 picks in three games against the Gators and had two interceptions in each of the Bulldogs’ final two games last season against LSU in the SEC Championship Game and Michigan State in the Outback Bowl. Both were Top 10 opponents.
“I don’t know,” quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo said. “The guy has performed so well over his career. The SEC Championship last year, he was on point in the first half and we didn’t help him out catching the ball. The bottom line is you’ve just got to relax and show you can play the way you’ve always played and be confident.”
Murray doesn’t believe he’s pressing more in big games, though he did say Bobo told him at halftime “to calm down and relax.”
“I’ve played in a lot of big games,” Murray said. “The locker room was all positive as far as my teammates and other coaches and I wasn’t stressed and freaking out. I just knew I had to clean things up. We were still up 7-6 at halftime so I knew I just needed to settle down a little bit and I’d be ready to go.A lot of my inaccuracy had to do with my feet not being on balance and that’s pretty much the reason. Come the second half, you could definitely see my footwork getting back to what it’s been during the entire season before and that’s when I started hitting more receivers.
The bottom line is Murray got the job done on Saturday, and his coaches and teammates have been unwavering in their support.
Asked if they’d considered making a quarterback change at any point in the game, coach Mark Richt snapped: “Aaron is the guy. Period.”
Jordan Jenkins’ stock is up
Richt confirmed on Wednesday that Jordan Jenkins has solidified his status as starter at “Sam,” or strongside, outside linebacker opposite of Jarvis Jones. Junior Chase Vasser is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury and senior Cornelius Washington has been playing primarily at a down lineman position since senior Abry Jones was lost for the season with an ankle injury.
Besides, Jenkins is playing lights out. The 6-foot-3, 257-pound athlete from Harris County has now started three games and, despite limited playing time early in the season, he’s second on the team in sacks (3), tackles for loss (6) and quarterback pressures (13).
“We’re going to play him as much as he can,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “He’s really come on and produced and really had a chance to have a sack the other night and he’s done some other good things. So we’ll continue to play him and try to get players that can make plays on the field.”
Having Jenkins opposite of Jones has proved particularly effective as teams are running away from the Bulldogs’ All-American only to find Jenkins at the ready. Occasionally, Grantham will pair them on the same side.
“Those two guys have got a pretty good pass rush, a pretty good twitch, get-off, and it allows them not to be able to say that they can totally go to this guy,” Grantham said. “If they do, it’s going to leave somebody else one-on-one. By doing that, though, a guy like Cornelius Washington went inside and that was really big for us. I thought Cornelius did good inside, so at times we had as many as three outside backers in there, maybe four every now and then.”
John Jenkins sidelined, Hall out
Starting nose guard John Jenkins was help out of practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury he suffered in practice on Tuesday. Richt indicated the 6-foot-3, 358-pound senior will be able to play against Ole Miss on Saturday.
“We think he’ll be fine but we didn’t want to put him out there today,” Richt said. “We think he’ll be ready.”
Richt said starting fullback Merritt Hall (ankle) did not practice and is likely out for Saturday’s game. He said junior Zander Ogletree, who played every fullback snap against the Gators, will start instead.
Etc. . . .
Cornerback Damian Swann was in a non-contact, green jersey but is not expected to miss any playing time this week. . . . Richt said Jamie Lindley handled all the kickoffs against Florida because Georgia wanted to attempt an onsides kick, Richt said. He won’t necessarily handle them against Ole Miss, however. “I don’t think Marshall (Morgan) is done with that,” Richt said. . . . Since it has been more than a month since the last home game, the Bulldogs expecting a big recruiting weekend. Among the unofficial visitors will be Grayson defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, the younger brother of Ole Miss linebacker and leading tackler Denzel Nkemdiche.

Even Spurrier has gone to the spread to make it easier for his QB… BUT, if you want a chance against Bama, only the Dawgs can hang with them…. Hopefully getting two in a row against Florida will exorcise some more demons. Murray is a tough kid and has had a great career so far at Georgia. I think they should let him run with the ball some more. I remember in his first year he would tuck and run some. May take some of the pressure off him trying to force something when there’s not much there. I hope he has a stellar day against Ole Miss and finishes out the season with consistency. I like AM. He is a Damn Good Dawg. He is also a “turnover machine”. Has been for almost three seasons now. Hard to put my figure on it; but something is missing. I feel for him.
I have a buddy who is a former pro scout, and his observation for what is it worth is this: “Murray is a hustle, attitude and hard work player. The kind coaches love. He leads by example. He simply doesnt have a natural feel for the passing game though. This is what top teams expose. Doesn’t mean he is not a top 20% college quarterback, but it does mean he can not carry a team by himself.”

Murray’s late TD was mainly the nifty running of the receiver. The offense did not lose the game, but the defense won it.

Murray’s problem is, he is not a quick decision maker. That’s why he struggles against good team who give him little decision time. And, that’s why he holds on to ball for too long.
During the FL mid-game interview, coach Richt was obviously frustrated. Richt said Murray should do step 1-2-3-4 every time he has the ball. That way, I am assuming the coach’s thinking, he would make quicker decision, and won’t hold on to ball too long.
Yes, he is not a quick decision maker, that’s his fundamental problem. It’s been like that for 3 years. Coach Richt has been saying that for 3 years as I can remember. But quick decision making is a human trait, it’s hard to overcome even with Richt’s 1-2-3-4 step method.
Therefore, it’s my personal opinion, Murray is a fundamentally flawed QB.

Every time Murray has a EXCUSE FOR HIS TROUBLES!! If he knows what is wrong, then why does he keep DOING IT TIME AFTER TIME?? In games against average teams, HE NEVER MISSES GUY THAT IS OPEN, yet in big games HE LOOKS COMPLETELY LOST!! I will be glad WHEN HE LEAVES ATHENS!! Nobody believes this BUT MASON IS A BETTER QB! The reason Murray plays like he does in big games IS BECAUSE HE DON’T FEAR LOSING HIS JOB IF HE KEEPS IT UP!! In the Florida game if Richt had benched him for one series, YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN HIM PLAY BETTER WHEN HE GOT BACK IN THE GAME!! I sure don’t trust him, THIS KID PLAYED BETTER HIS FRESHMAN YEAR! In big games, HE IS LOST!! I hope somebody drafts him at the end of the year!!

Murray is clearly doing his best. He’s been anointed and no other quaterback good enough to get a scholarship need apply. Before the year started Bobo said Murray should be better because he knows more of the offense. Must be one complicated offense. If Murray is better, it is against bad teams. Against good teams he is not. Now he says he’s throwing picks because of poor fundamentals, yet he somehow remains untouchable. In fact, it makes Richt angry if you ask a question about it. Again, Murray is a great kid. He has worked hard to improve. But what about the other kids that have aspirations who never seem to get a chance. Why do quarterbacks come to Georgia under this system?

Bummer hasn’t played any top teams yet. Michigan was way over rated. Ole Miss played them tough and was still in the game in the 4th quarter so UGA better be ready for a well balanced offense and a better than average defense. I expect LSU to stay with Bummer saturday unless Mettenbubba screws up and turns the ball over. This could be another very low scoring game much like LSU’s win last year.

Better than average defense? HAHAHAHAHA…and that would make Georgia’s? Alice Murray will fold like a napkin when he sees a Saban defense for the first time. He will be eaten alive, the offensive and defensive lines will be dominated by Alabama, you can’t run on them, Murray cant pass and u won’t even get that courtesy touchdown you got against that mighty, mighty, South Carolina defense. Good for you since you can’t kick PATS.

Come on Chip. Are you really buying the “it’s my feet” excuse? No wonder Aaron’s making such poor decisions. He thinking about his feet when he should be thinking about finding the open receiver and not forcing the ball into traffic. It’s not his arm and it’s not his feet for goodness sakes. The problem is between his ears. And we are supposed to feel all better because we won the game and his teammates were nice to him? Anyone can learn from a loss. I want to see Aaron learn from this win. Yes we won – not because of Aaron but in spite of him. Come on Chip. Be a journalist.

I have always liked jordan jenkins since watching him play against griffin at harris county and in the under armour all star game. at that all star game practice through out the week, he was always one of the stand outs in each days practice report. He has a ton of upside to. He will put on 15-25 pounds of muscle and add some speed with that new strength he will get from a college s&c program. A college s&c program shocks the body so much that you have to have the worst genes on earth not to get huge. At the all star game they get all the players measurables and what stood out about jordan jenkins was his arm length or wing span it was the largest they had ever recorded not just for his ht. but for any ht. His wing span was larger than that of Jadevon Clowney which blew my mind. with that wing span a defensive end can be etremely dangerous especially as he keeps polishing up his hands. working with jarvis is gonna be huge for the kid too. Jordan has all the measureables that NFL scouts go crazy for so watch him while he is here this kid will go in the first couple of rounds probably the first.

I would think that CMR should know that competition brings out the best in everybody. Jordan outplayed Vasser because he was given am opportunity. He’s way overrated, and self-centered too. Richt and Booboo and this kid are killing you. Nick Marshall would have been real nice but y’all had him covering punts and kickoffs!! And the kid who could get you there, ANTHONY JENNINGS, has basically been ignored and is headed to two time National Champ LSU, which, by the way, rolls back on your schedule next year. You’d think that alone would be enough for Richt to go after the kid. Doesn’t he recall what CAM NEWTON did to y’all? Anyway, missing on Marshall and Jennings borders on bizarre. Hell, Jennings won the Elite 11 regionals, and is a UGA LEGACY!. Marshall went for over 600 yards total offense in a single game and you had him on your campus! I mean, you can’t make this stuuf up. Murray is a good QB. With proper coaching he could have been better. Bobo is not developing the talent at the QB position. Stafford played on sheer talent. He constantly overthrew WR and it was never corrected until he reached the NFL. Mason is more of a pure QB than Murray, but again to CMR loyalty and promises to certain players, the best QB is not in the game. CMR refuses to accept the fact that Murray is to inconsistent and does not show up against top level defenses. I really feel bad for LeMay He will never pan out, due to lack of a proper QB Coach and I truly feel that this will hurt the program with top passers in the long run. Look at the way that UGA is being shunned by top TE because they don’t utlize that position anymore. Imagine that, TE U does not use the TE anymore. Still feel the need for a coaching change. The schedule will get tougher in the next few seasons and CMR is not the coach to lead them into this. It will again be too many excuses and will continue to falter in the game planning department. Just call it like I see it. Too much talent on the team to not be motivated to win every year.

Murray simply needs to learn to make quicker decisions! If the receivers aren’t, he needs to throw the ball away, run if there is an opening or simply tuck it and go down if he can’t throw or run. Murray’s problem is that he tries to make something out of nothing and even the best pro qb’s aren’t too good at that. It’s been said many times, Murray needs to settle down. Drink some “calm juice” before taking the field. Sometimes, it is frustrating to watch when he’s not on his game and you want to say “pull him out”! Richt, being a quarterback himself, knows better than any of us about what Murray is going thru. He’s performed so well so many times, he deserves the chance to fix his problem. If he doesn’t, he won’t play very much, if at all, at the next level! GO Murray! GO DAWGS!!

One question: how many of Aaron Murray’s critics have ever taken a snap during a college football practice, much less a game?
Unless you can answer yes, then you need to calm down. He’s thrown a lot of TD passes. He’s led his team’s to 17 wins in the last two years. Does he have interceptions? Yes.
But back to my original question. Unless you’ve been in that role, you really need to chill and get a life.

It’s the same thing, over and over. Greene instead of Shockley. Murray instead of Cam Newton. Murray instead of Nick Marshall. And failing to create a legitimate competetion for the QB position between Murray and LeMay is criminal. Richt’s obsession with this Murray kid borders on bizarre. Ramsey instead of Anthony Jennings, Nick Marshall, Joshua Dobbs, Jonathan McCrary, or Deshaun Watson. It’s the same thing year after year. And is the main reason you haven’t won a National Title since Moby Dick was a Minnow. And as long and Richt and Bobo continue to allow their personal preferences and biases, especially regarding who they recruit and play at Quarterback, outweigh what’s best for the team, you won’t win another.

Lets be very clear about Murray- his quote…”I don’t play Florida by myself” no, Murray, you dont but you almost single handily lost this game for us. Facts are facts, they ONLY reason we won this game is because the Fla QB played just as bad as you did…..HE is a freshman…..YOU ARE NOT. While this win was great, the fact still remain you do not play well against good teams. That our HC took all options off the table to have a back up for you is INSANE. Yes, we beat Fla…..but guess what film boy……IT WAS BECAUSE OF Florida’s pathetic play and our Defense………Next big game for you to blow in………………….OLE MISS!

Let’s not forget that it was Murray’s passes that produced the winning 4th qtr drive. That was about the only time we went pass-first in the whole game. He had a terrible first half, but the Gators were the #1 ranked team by the BCS computer–they are pretty good, and their D is the strongest asset. Bottom line: Murray is a winner. He fought against his bad day and found a way to beat the number two team in the country with the rest of his team. We also had the dropsies. Almost all of our receivers dropped balls they should have caught. However, I think the real story here is how much better our line played. If they keep improving, look out. The Dawgs better get ready, as Ole Miss looks good to me. They got the closest to Bama of any team this year; they aren’t afraid of playing good teams. Great win, Dawgs.

These statements show how utterly stupid this coaching staff is…….Murray pads his so called stats against losers and when we play a great team in a huge game he folds……..its just a matter of time before it catches up to us again……..Florida played horrible- that is why we won…..

Mark is more worried about the fragile mental state of a QB ( IMO because of his own life struggles as a young QB being pulled for a better player his entire playing career)than the success of UGA football………If nothing but his sub conscience . Watch McCarran of Bama play Saturday night. Reminds me of Brady at New England. Difference. Saban has him in an offense that let’s him succeed and not totally dependent of HIM winning the game. The short passing game and effective running game of Bama is the best in College football. That offense is not fancy, it just works. Very few 3 and outs….and we are the king of three and outs.

Aaron has to make it to the point where every game is the same. QB is one of the positions in football where emotion has to take a back seat. He tries too hard and it’s like a bar of soap, the harder you squeeze the further away it slips. He might want to look into meditation before games to calm down. I’ve been watching this for 3 years now and he definitely needs to work harder on his emotional control. He needs to step away and stop thinking it is all on his shoulders. He needs to trust his teammates to make plays as well.
As for everyone saying Jordan Jenkins needed to be starting all along… jeez, the guy had to learn his assignments. Yes, his talent would have overcome some deficiencies but not to where it was wiser to play him over somebody else.

His first half interception against FL where no Georgia player was in sight, well, he came to the sidelines with a deer-in-the-headlight look. Looked like he didn’t know what happened or what to do. Bunch of bologna! Murray is a 3rd year starter! He’s never looked good in big games and neve lived up to the hype. You’d think after starting more than 30 games in the SEC, he might have a little more grasp of his fundamentals and footwork.
I think Murray does get nervous or over-excited in big games. To start the year, he was overthrowing all his recievers. He always goes for the big, downfield throw instead of checking down to another reciever. His accuracy on bid downfield throws is about 10%.
Now when he does get settled in and in a rhythm, running a no-huddle, he looks very sharp.
Will this transfer to the NFL? Probably not. He’s too short, has good arm strength, but not great. He puts the ball on target, where only his recievers can catch it. However, he would get eaten alive by an NFL defense. If he’s rattled by Florida & SC, just think what Baltimore & Pittsburgh would do to him.

During that time span, UGA has Greene, Shockley, Stafford, Cox, Murray. Cox did not go pro, I don’t feel Murray will either. A total of 6 QB’s.

Coaches fail when their players fail, especially the players who work their butts off and the result just don’t show on the field. Murray’s problems is not necessarily fundamentals and bad footwork, it’s decision making packaged with his skill set that has not meshed. This is the fault of the coaches to some degree. Murray likes to move around in the pocket and pick up yards with his legs. Florida’s aggressive, fast, defense was the perfect opportunity for him to use his mobility to catch them off guard and over pursuing. This is what Spurrier did with Conner Shaw against Georgia. Once Florida adjusts, then you go on back to your vertical passing game because the secondary will have their eyes in the backfield. Also, where are the 5-10 yard slants and crossing routes in this scheme? What about bubble screens to receivers, tight ends, and backs? Sure, Murray can make better decisions, but BoBo is asking him to make better decisions based off of the same scheme and game plan from 1990 Florida St.’s playbook. The offense needs to be revamp and adjusted to fit different QB’s and skill player’s offensive abilities. This is the new wave in coaching. Coaches adjusting to the personnel, not the personnel adjusting to the system. I think BoBo needs to adjust the playbook and the scheme, since he is clearly in charge now. However, since this is the only job he has ever had and him being married to a Dooley, precludes the need for self- reflection.

I asked my south ga friends this question and they said depends on how he does vs FSU.
If he does lose to UGA next year, it may end up loooking like Ray Gooof did at UGA back in the 90s.
Who remembers this in a raspy voice (cause he has beeen screaming all day long).
“Well, we played hard today. Let me tell you, nobody on that team quit. What we are gonna do is go in Sunday, look at the tape, figure out what we did wrong and get back at it on Monday after class.”

Murray has the attributes to be a great QB, granted he’s short for the “prototypical” QB, but there are successful examples of similar stature. Murray’s shortcoming is mental at this point. We did win a big game, with him as QB, maybe that will get the monkey off his back, don’t know. He does need to be coached up in the area of “game management”. Time will tell, because Richt is “married” to Murray.

Dawgs are 7-1 and could end up 11-1. That is pretty good. The schedule is pretty easy also. Anyone thinks we win last week without Shawn Williams calling the team out. Me thinks 75% not. I’ll tell you one of the fundamental biggest flaws of Richt. He hired to win, and hopefully pick up some SEC titles along the way, maybe a shot at a NC title. Richt had a chance to hire John Chavous ( sp?) off that fired Tennessee staff, And John was available and would of interviewed, and would of probably accepted if offered, and Richt didn’t. Mark has never been one to tweak his staff to improve it. The OL hire of Will Friend is a perfect example. Nice guy, decent coach, but this is Georgia and all the money in the world…..and they go with the comfy relationship hire.

This isn’t high school where a good athlete can sub in at qb and save a game with natural ability. The only guy we have that is ready and able today to play qb is Murray because Mason isn’t going tocome in and waste a year, so get over it. It takes more that “fan desire” for a young guy to play qb successfully in the SEC. Those other guys may indeed do well at some point, but not today. ——-LeMay should be moved to another position, all the skill but can’t grasp the play books —–\

Murray’s problem is not footwork or fundamentals. That is the excuse Bobo has given him and they both cling to it. The problem is mental- Murray tries to make something out of nothing. Almost all of his interceptions happen when he has had too much time, not a lack of time. He is unable or unwilling to throw to his safety valve out of the backfield or just throw the ball away. UNLESS AND UNTIL BOBO AND RICHT GET THIS MESSAGE THROUGH TO HIM THE PICKS WILL CONTINUE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM TELL HIM TO LOOK PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND THEN THROW IT AWAY OR DUMP TO BACK EARLY IN BIG GAMES. GET SOME COMPLETIONS, NO MISTAKES AND THEN WORK ON MORE PROGRESSIONS IF THINGS ARE GOING WELL. THE TRUTH IS THAT HAVING TOO MANY OPTIONS CAN BE WORSE THAN HAVING TOO FEW OPTIONS. ULTIMATELY THIS FALLS ON THE COACHES BECAUSE THEY ALLOW IT TO CONTINUE AND DON’T PULL HIM FOR A SERIES TO STAND ON THE SIDELINE AND CALM DOWN. WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF DOING THAT, HANDING OFF 3 TIMES AND PUNTING RATHER THAN TURNING OVER THE BALL AND THE MOMENTUM. SHAME ON BOBO AND RICHT.

Every one of the rest of the team has to earn their starting position each week…but not Murray. That’s probably the reason he was laughing about his poor performance after the Florida game. If any of the running backs had turned the ball over 3 times like Mrray, they would be benched and probably not start the next game either. My hope is that he will think he’s good enough to go pro and he leaves after this year. Benching Murray when he’s off would probably only help down the road.

Murray will continue to choke in big games. He was completely befuddled by the Florida defense. UGA won the game because of their defense and great individual effort by Mitchell, not because of Murray but inspite of him. I know that they do not want to take the red shirt off Hudson but they should have some games before the end of the season where Lemay could get some experience. I don’t think Lemay would throw more interceptions than Murray and he not afraid to run the ball. It helps when you have a quarterback that can run the ball and does not fumble when taking a pee wee league hit as Murray does.

Calm down UGA fans, we could have that LSU QB starting for us. Just think about it, he out played A. Murray in the spring game before he got kicked off the team. A. Murray is what he is, that is why our o-line need to block for our tadems of backs and A. Murray will be fine. No he not a big game changer, but with a solid run game the job will get done.

The problem with Richt is once he “annoints” a QB thats it. No offseason QB competition to drive them to get better or anything. Murray will be the starter until he leaves at the end of next season. For now he is the only capable QB because mason is redshirting and our only other alternatives are a walk on and a young player who is not ready. After Murray leaves Mason will get the job whether he deserves it or not because he stuck around and Richt will feel he needs to be rewarded. Now Mason might very well be the best best in 2014 but it won’t be because he won a heated QB competition. UGA needs competition at every position and Richt needs to quit rewarding his favorites with playing time they don’t deserve. A perfect example of this is Christian Robinson, slow and soft, and not even close to being one of the top linebackers in our rotation. Herrea is head and shoulders above robinson but he is one of Richt’s church boys so he plays regardless.

If Murray “choked” against FL…..then what did the FL QB do against UGa? What did the SC QB do against LSU and FL? Did you know that FL had a 21 pt lead on SC and only had 27 total yards of offense? Yes, the FL QB actually sucked against SC and UGa, but you knuckleheads like to bash Murray like he is the only QB in the nation who has a tough time against “Top 5″ defenses.

Someone pointed out Murrays main flaw…He only focuses on one receiver and than stares him down the entire time. On all 3 INT, the guy he was throwing to was either double or triple covered. Why did they know to double/triple team that guy? Because Murray had his eyes on him from the snap. Murray had guys WIDE open on all 3 picks yet tried to force it to his prime target. I know for a fact that Tavares King was wide open on 2 of those plays.

We sure miss Bennett. Not sure what to make of our vaulted pass offense in big games. If it all boils down to Murray playing better or is it our receivers who can’t get open or if it’s the scheme of Bobo. Seemed like Aaron had 3 seconds several times but couldn’t spot anyone to throw to. Florida had DB’s draped on our receivers. JUst not sure what to make of it.

I think the FL win will do a lot for Aaron’s confidence going forward. I think it was a head thing. He’s not stupid, he heard it from the media, fans and critics about “not winning the big game”. Even though he won’t admit it, his problem is he comes into those games all amped up and not so much pressing or playing tight, but trying to do too much, like he has to prove that he can play against top competition. His receivers HAVE to help him out. A.Lynch drops a pass right to him and had nothng but green grass in front of him. TK dropped on that he planted right between the 1 and 2 on his jersey and had one man to beat. Both would/could have been 40-50yd TDs. If those two make the plays and his stat line went to 240yds and 3 TDs we wouldn’t even be having this discussion with or without the INTs. He’s an aggressive QB who attacks, and those type of QBs tend to throw a lot of picks but also throw for a lot of yds and TDs and tend to have a lot of long plays. i.e. Brett Farve. (NO I”M NOT SAYING AM IS BRETT FARVE JUST USING HIM AS AN EXAMPLE OF THAT STYLE QB)

Please read my last blog and consider this: Murray has struggled against FL, SC, LSU and Michigan State over the past 2 years in the “Big Games”. Is it all Murray’s fault or is it that EVERY QB in the nation….even at Bama has struggled against ALL of those teams because ALL of these teams have or had defenses in the TOP 5 in the nation….ALL of them. Even Peyton Manning would have had problems…..as he demonstrated by losing to FL 4 consecutive years when FL had top ranked defenses. Please quit piling on Murray and accusing him of choking….if that is the case then you need to say the same for the QBs at FL, SC, LSU and even Bama (note: in the regular season loss last year to LSU….Bama only scored 6 points….and it was a home game for Bama)

Murray misses his big, over-the-middle WR, Bennent. I bet 10-12 passes have been dropped since Bennent went out.

Mobile, what I meant was establish the pass first, not pass on first down. We threw the majority of plays in the TD drive, and Murray looked great on that drive. He looked strong for most of the second half, in fact. That the Dawgs can attack with a run-first, or a pass-first strategy makes us tough to defend. The one missing ingredient, imo, has been our line blocking. They look like they are improving to me, and I expect a lot of momentum going forward. You remember how much we improved in ‘07 as the season went on. If we can do that again, we should finish very strong. Here is hoping that is the case. Ole Miss played Bama closer than any team this year, so we have our work cut out this week.

Murray is what, 1-10 against top ranked teams? There’s no arguing he does have a different look in his eye when they play a big game. I respect Murray’s toughness and committment to excellence. I know he works hard and has extremely high expectations for himself. But, to me, he comes across just like the golfer that thinks he can better his score if he gets his club a little more on plane. Of course, there is some truth to this, mechanics and fundamenals do matter and I am a big advocate. But, it is really a matter of relative importance. Meaning, what is more important, great fundamentals or just being a great gamer? If I were Bobo I would tell Aaron to spend an hour less each day watching film and working on his fundamentals and an hour more playing backyard football (or some other sport for that matter) with his buddies. He needs to do less “left brain thinking” and more “right brain playing”. He just needs to fricken play. If he can understand his dominant mindset (which sure seems to me to be a left brain analytic) and utilizes techniques to make a shift (which is possible), I think he could be a great player.

Richt’s comment that there will be no change at QB seems to have drawn the ire of some in Dawgnation. Honestly, it is the only answer since there is no plan B at this point. Lemay is not ready (he may be good someday, but from what what we saw in his limited playing time this year that day is not now).
Mason wasn’t deemed by the staff to be the best QB and bringing him in cold against Ole Miss when he hasn’t played a snap this year due to trying to redshirt him doesn’t make any sense either.
The only way Mason plays is if Murray can’t physically play for some reason. If Georgia were to lose to Ole Miss or Murray were to have a historically bad game against ole miss that could change, but as this article points out, he usually plays well against teams like Ole Miss and this year’s Auburn team, GSU and tech. I expect Murray to have four good games to finish the regular season.

@JB – If you feel that way about Oregon or ND then why should any team bother playing the games? I laugh at the ESPN folks who have already put Bama in the NC game. There is a LOT of football left to be played.
2-3 games ago Geno Smith had the Heisman locked up and people were saying no one could stop West Va’s juggernaught offense.
Bama might not even get out of Baton Rouge unscathed. (go ahead an laugh if you want) But go take a look at Bama’s schedule and who they’ve played to date. They are running off a lot of hype because of where a couple of their opponents were ranked early in the season. Michigan has played 3 good teams this year Bama, ND and Nebraska and lost all 3. Compare what Bama did against UGA common opponents FAU and Missouri. Tenn was the only one with some disparity in the score because we gave up more in a game that was Tree and Rambo’s 1st game back from suspension and a banged up Jarvis.
Simply put you will very often find whatever you’re looking for. I can’t believe people are on here STILL criticizing coaches and players after one of the biggest VICTORIES UGA has had in a while. Sheesh, how about just enjoying it, and let the season play out and see what happens.

The problem with layinlow is he is ignorant. First, unless you are brain dead you realize that there is not a QB on the roster who gave UGA a better chance to win than Murray. 2nd Murray is a Jr who is at the top of the SEC stats in most categories. 3rd, the problem with you is that your opinion is wrong because you arent nearly as smart as you think when it comes to what yo uare talking about. Stop spreading negativity around your 7-1 football program. Murray overcoming and dealing with his mentality is not an issue with Richt you hater. BTW Richt will NOT be going anywhere for years and he WILL win the NC at UGA. Not going to be this year unless the defense becomes ferocious because the OL is young. UGA has NOT had but ONE team that was worthy of being national champs and it didnt get the chamce Bama got last year OR Richt would have brought UGA a NC. NOBODY was going to beat UGA that year in a bowl game. NOBODY. Sugar Bowl champs shoulda been National Champs. But LSU got the nod even though EVERYBODY knew UGA would beat LSU on a neutral field. ANYWAY…..get off Richt. There is NO problem. UGA has NEVER been a powerhouse but since Richt has got there and ELEVATED UGA to a damn good eam most EVERY year….you cant handle the success you have and are being greedy to a fault, That you dont see where you came from the last 30 years to get here to this point. Do you not remember 30 years of 8-9 wins at best, maybe 10 with a bowl win. With a COUPLE of exceptions. Richt has brought UGA to a place NEVER before achieved in their history. BUT since he hasnt took a team that is NOT talented enough to win the NC, you hate on him for EVERYTHING you can? UGA IS on the VERGE of being an Oklahoma, Bama, Texas, USC, Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State. LSU. Those are programs with tradition and legacy. UGA had a 3 year Herschel Walker legacy. They were ready to fire Dooley before Herschel stepped onto the field…Richt is FAR more successful than Dooley ever was EXCEPT for when Herschel played…Richt hasnt had a Herschel and is the BEST coach in UGA history. DOOLEY HIRED Richt…..He was the BEST thing Dooley done and he WILL win the NC….at LEAST ONE. Despite Saban and Miles. Bama should never lose a game honestly. EVER. GREATEST Legacy, recruiting and best coach now and maybe ever. Stacked deck. But they will and it might be this year and it might be to UGA….IF the defense get ferocious….Best coahc in UGA history is Richt. You know how hard it is to even recruit against these other schools? Especially Bama and LSU? Then throw in Tenn, SC, FL, then Clemson, FL ST, MIA. Richt made inroads against these schools. UGA didnt have much before Richt to attract kids out of state or keep them in unless you were a RB or just loved UGA having lived here. REMEMBER THIS UGA FANS…..UGA HAS NEVER BEEN A POWERHOUSE IN COLEGE FOOTBALL BUT YOU EXPECT THEM TO BE RIGHT THERE WITH BAMA AND LSU AND FLORIDA….YOU GOT TO WALK BEFORE YOU RUN AND IF NOT FOR RICHT, UGA WOULD STILL BE CRAWLING INSTEAD OF JOGGING. YOU KEEP WINNING LIKE UGA HAS UNDER RICHT AND YOU WILL BREAKTHROUGH AND THEN BECOME THAT POWERHOUSE OF CONSISTENCY. INSTEAD OF WINNING LIKE UGA IS NOW, ONCE EVERY 5 YEARS, MAYBE. UGA WENT 19 YEARS AFTER HERSCHEL LEFT WITHOUT WINNING JACK. NOT EVEN THE EAST ONE TIME. NOT ONE TIME. ONLY HAD VERY GOOD SEASONS TWICE IN THOSE 19 YEARS, MAYBE 3 IF YOU COUNT THE UNEXPECTED BOWL WIN OVER TEXAS IN 84 AND WE WILL. 3 YEARS OUT OF 19 YEARS. RICHT IS DOING THAT VIRTUALLY EVERY YEAR! AND OMG IF HE EVER HAS A COUPLE OF DOWN YEARS….FYI EVERY COACH DOES IF HE IS AROUND LONG ENOUGH. I AM SO TIRED OF YOU IGNORANT MARK RICH HATERS. YOU DONT KNOW WAHT YO UARE TALKING ABOUT AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. ITS GREAT TO WANT TO WIN IT ALL BUT ONLY 1 TEAM CAN AND THE TEAM WITH THE BEST COACH IN AMERICA IS ALABAMA, NOT UGA AND HE IS NOT COMING TO UGA TO COACH. SO ITS AN UPHILL BATTLE. EVERYBODY TALKING BOUT WHAT MUSCHAMP DONE IN A SHORT PERIOD…2 THINGS…..THEY WERE HIGHLY OVERRATED AND SECOND, FLORIDA HAS BEEN A POWERHOUSE SINCE THE EARLY 90′S…THEY GET GREAT RECRUITS BASED ON THAT ALONE. RICHT HAS TO BATTLE MORE STATES AND SCHOOLS FOR RECRUITS THAN ANY COACH IN THE NATION. THEY ARE SWARMING INTO GEORGIA TO STEAL GA PLAYERS. SEC, ACC, BIG TEN, PAC 10…ALL OF THEM. GIVE RICHT SOME CREDIT. HE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB ALL THIGNS CONSIDERED AND HE WILL WIN A NC. AND HE WILL WIN IT WITHOUT A HERSCHEL….

Damn Neutral, can you get your head out of the clouds for a second? How many games against top competition over the last five years have we been “blown” out against. It’s not so much that we lost, it’s how we lost. Since you pulled my chain this morning Altamaha, that’s where I get my opinion from.
I respect the fact Altamaha, that you’re the ultimate lieutenant, who’s going to support the boss in public even if you disagree with him. I’ve read enough of your posts over the last five years where you have questioned Richt, I think I know you well enough to also say you’re just always going to be the devils advocate. For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction. I think the Dawgs played a hell of a game Saturday, would be dirt happy to see the same results in the future. Time will tell.

I’m just saying that if he studies as much as they say he does, why can’t he put them in the right play himself?
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a pretty good qb, he just nuts up against quality teams for some reason. Again, there’s no arguing that FACT.

AM is a good QB – but his or Bobo’s reluctance to let him leave the pocket is causing problems. He is “no threat” to run on the zone read for Gurley/Marshall, hence he hands off into a stacked box.
AM could have easily pulled the rock down, picked up 5-10 yards and moved the chains. This year, I guess to protect Hutson Mason’s redshirt, he has been shackled in the pocket.
I hate that we limit our ability to perform for a player who isn’t even on the field. Let Murray be the “dual threat”. Put that piece back in his toolbox and let the kid play.

Did FL “give” the game to UGa or did we “take” it from them. I think we caused all of those turnovers by massive pressure and hard hits. If UGa had lost the game would you be focused on UGa’s 3 turnovers, dropped passes and 140+ yards in penalties……and boast that UGa gave the game away? Probably not.

Troll here. LOL.
if you think Murray is more nervous in big games, you are laughable. Most players may start a little nervous in any game, but most people would settle down after a few snaps.
The good teams don’t give Murray much window of opportunity: he is either hassled or receivers are tightly covered.
Murray isn’t good enough to throw in tight coverage situations (Bray is good enough).
I forgot what Richt said about 1-2-3-4. I guess is, (1)look left-(2)look right-(3)throw-(4)or throw away.
I believe coach Richt is correct with Murray. Just practice 1-2-3-4 and do it in the game. He will avoid some of his obvious problems if he can do it.

AM is still very, mobile and athletic. He has got to pull it down and run it instead of forcing into tight windows – i.e (Wooten pick). The Rome pass was an easy pull down or FB check down. At any rate, Murray is athletic and needs to get back to making plays with feet. He can still slide or run it OB, if necessary. Watch some Aaron Rodgers film. He could have turned at least 8 of his 12 incomplete passes into runs for positive yards and/or first downs.

JB, I happen to agree with you and the Zone, but I do have a lot of respect for CMR and CMB on QB coaching. I just think that big games may require Murray to use his legs. Think about how many drives Shaw kept alive with his legs. A QB who takes off a few times a game affects the opposing DC’s decision making and it takes pressure off of our line and Murray. You end up with LBs standing around waiting for screens, draws, and QB runs. It really helps our team. If we were to win out and face Bama, I think Murray has to run some to even have a chance to win.
GTBob, it is subjective, and don’t forget UF has played some great Ds, too. They are learning Pease’s very complicated offense and gaining confidence in Driskell. But, if you just want to go with stats and computers, remember that the BCS computer had Florida ranked number one in the country!

You know what? I found out a couple of years ago, Nick Saban does the same thing. It says when he watches games, he is all about the right ways or wrong ways to play.

I agree wholeheartedly with the fact Richt has done less with more than any coach, probably in America! Give any number of SEC coaches the talent Georgia has they win NCs. The problem we face is two fold: first, as long as the Georgia fan base as a whole is satisfied with 9 or 10 wins a season (which I am not a member of that group), Richt will be difficult for them to get rid of. Besides, who would they hire? Kirby Smart is NOT the answer, folks. Georgia needs a PROVEN HC, not another unproven assistant. Second, teams like Alabama, for example, have set higher standards for themselves. MEDIOCRITY won’t cut it & they don’t tolerate it.

Neutral… yes I believe in the power of positive thinking. I’ll give an odd example of the power of the human mind and the things we do to ourselves mentally. George Carlin told a story about driving along the road one day and looking over and seeing a kid riding his bike apparently in mid air. After a moment he realized the kid was riding his bike along a 5 ft tall stone wall that was probably @ 18″ thick. The kid was having a blast and didn’t seem to realize he was doing what most people would think was impossible. Then Carlin said that as he thought about it he realized that someone would F-up and tell the kid about gravity and he would never be able to do it again.
This is absolutely true. The difference is belief. Or rather the difference between “knowing” and just believing. Belief is almost like trying to fool yourself that something is true rather than just knowing it is true. The Dawgs need to stop trying to believe and just know they are as good as anybody.

Alabama tolerated a lot less than mediocre for a long time. No question NOW that Saban has built such a program back, they will not be happy with that. But to think they would fire Nick Saban if he has a few years (and he will) where they are good but not championship caliber, is rediculous.
You guy love to campare apples to oranges with what somebody else did/does and what is the situation of what is going on at Georgia right now. BTW, Georgia would have never done any number of mistakes that various schools have made over the years. So it’s relative to time and place.

I don’t get caught up into the “who do we get” discussions quite because simply, it’s a moot point unless there is an opening. If the current coach has a contract and is on board, there isn’t an opening. Who may or may not be a good choice or is available today, might not be available tomorrow. Kind of like a bottle of wine. It will taste much different today than it did a year ago or that it will taste next year. If we have an opening, we fill it with the best available coach at the time. I’ve never seen a football coach at UGA expectantly fired. Maybe before my time there was and I don’t expect Richt will be either no matter how many whine and call for his head

Murray would love nothing more than to take off and run when there are no open receivers but just look around at the teams who let their Quarterback run when they don’t have an open receiver and you will see a team on their second, third or fourth Quarterback. As little as Murray is he would have already been hurt for the season if Richt let him run at will. Richt will never have an option Quarterback as long as he is coaching in the SEC. He will always recruit and go with the pocket passer or Pro style offense. You may get away with an option Quarterback in other Conferences but not the SEC unless you have a huge number of reserves when they get hurt.

AltamahaDawg: it is my belief Kirby Smart will probably turn down offers from other schools, and take over when “St Nick” decides to step down. At this time, it would be difficult to speculate whether, or not Smart would be as good as Saban, or a step back. I would have to believe when Saban decides to hang it up, the cupboard would be fully stocked, based on his recruiting. Again, Smart is an uproven commodity as a HC. With that in mind, let’s take a look at Saban assistants currently serving as HCs: Dooley-mega flop (however, in Dooley’s defense, he was a panic hire-nobody else would take the job), Muschamp-the jury’s still out, Jimbo Fisher-the jury’s still out.

I didn’t say that, AltamahaDawg. However, if I’m not mistaken, he is currently the highest paid assistant in the SEC. The fat he coached under Saban, for two NCs, maybe more by the time Saban steps aside. That alone would make him the most attractive hire for Alabama-especially if he turns down other offers to stay.

And as you just told me they are willing to pay anything and buy out anybody. Including the NFL, I assume, since they just did that.

Transcript from this week’s UGA-Ole Miss Game-Planning meeting with CMR, CMB and CTG:
CMR: Today we have a special guest! I’ve invited Shawn Williams to join us because, as we saw, Shawn did a better job motivating the defense in 10 minutes than we have all year. Personally, I prefer gimmicks, but whatever, it’s our first winning streak vs UF in 25 years!
CTG: Speaking of gimmicks, I’m afraid to ask what are those red bracelets for?
CRM: Don’t be afraid Big Boy, these are WWSWD bracelets and we’ll be wearing them the rest of the year. Shawn, would you say a few words please?
SW: Thank you coach. It’s an honor to be here. I believe strongly in shifting the attitudinal paradigm; not just for the defense, not just for the team, but for the entire program! I believe in personal accountability for players and coaches alike! Many players here harbor dreams of playing in the NFL. Let’s embrace, nurture and build on that! Treat us like the men we are becoming. Decide who will play based on merit, not some seniority-based system that may keep our best on the bench.
(CTG and CMB stare unblinking with eyes big as saucers, mouths agape)
CMR: Whoa there Shawn baby. RELAX! Don’t go all Tony Robbins on us. We’re playing Ole Miss not Bama! I was looking for some positive vibes not a manifesto. What the heck are you majoring in anyway? Pretty words?
SW: I just want to add that the team is looking forward to you taking an active role in coaching the kickers. We’ve just got to fix the kicking game!
CMR: Thanks SW. As mentioned in last week’s presser, I’m going to first learn the ABCs of kicking then I’ll coach my tail off. Got a great head-start as Blair Walsh sent me “Ace Ventura-Pet Detective”. It’s a super-awesome instructional video for kickers and a cautionary tale as well. Seems this poor Dolphins kicker, Ray Finkel, missed a Super-Bowl winning chip-shot when Dan Marino botched the hold and naturally, he wound up turning into a woman. Since Ray, Dan, Blair, Marshall and I are all from South Florida, it really hits close to home. Apparently it’s vitally important to have the laces out when holding for a kick. Who knew, right?
CMB: I really don’t think MM will become a wom…oh, forget it. Let’s focus on the Black Bears.
CMR: Gotta tell ya fellas, just love that Hottie Toddy cheer! Had it stuck in my head all week!
CMB: Thinking we keep the good times rolling this week we are going to cancel practice, talk about how great we are, read our press clippings and watch the WLOCP again! We’ll be fine on Saturday-Murray can’t play worse, right?
CTG: (Red-faced, voice rising) I suggest you practice harder than that, your O managed a whopping 10 points on our 6 turnovers. We can’t gift-wrap games for you every week. On D we are going to keep the intensity up through public insults and
CMR: Don’t be such a Gasbag Todd! Let’s use our inside voices. No more sideline meltdowns either, try to be more like Shawn. Gotta run and talk to Vern and Gary.

But you do make a good point in that there ARE better proven coaches in the country than Kirby Smart, so why after ALL we hear about Alabama not settling for anything less than #1, they hire somebody FAR less than the best money can ge?
Because isnt that Georgia’s problem? Our fans are so willing to accept not having a coach better than NIck Saban. We need to fire this guy and go hire somebody that can beat Nick Saban? But Even Alabama wouldn’t or couldn’t do that, if it were them. That’s odd.

Alabama may have wanted Spurrier at age 50, but not at 70.
Saban showed what he thought of Kirby when UGA offered him the DC job – he basically doubled his salary.
The Bama job will be Kirby Smart’s when Saban leaves. Unless he is coaching UGA. Or maybe Texas.
Superb recruiter, and has learned his craft under the best.

Can’t argue with you Joey. Texas and Alabama are 2 of the top 5 gigs in all of CFB, while UGA is certainly a top 10. Not another coordinator, or even head coach in the country could lay claim as to having such an influential inside track.
Regarding TX however, it wouldn’t surprise me if they just promoted applewhite….especially if he appeared to have strong relationships already built with several committed recruits. That decision could definitely burn the TX program even further however. Applewhite proved he didn’t have the drive to handle the relentless approach that Saban has when he washed-out as the OC after year 1 at AL.

I think Kirby would be a great hire for Alabama. I think he would do well. Hard to imagine he would beat Saban head to head right now, though. But we have folks who insist UGA can go out and hire a guy who could beat Alabama, even if Alabama themselves can’t.
I also think Smart would be a good fit at Alabama, would run a clean program, and would be popular with the folks that matter, have a very good record, and contend for several SEC titles fairly soon. but I have been told none of that should ever be a consideration. Only National championships.

There are a number of quality coaches available for hire at any given time. Most people would think these coaches were completely happy in their current positions. Nobody even knows who they are except their respective agents who was given the nod to fish and shop around.
I remember once at Arkansas Houston Nutt wasn’t interested in the AU job (immediately after the the Petrinogate deal. Nutt had his agent drop his name out there like he was interested. Arkansas quickly signed Nutt to a new contract, that they regretted a few years later BTW

It’s only pointless and moot if you’re happy with the status quo. It’s like the bear in the woods story, I don’t have to be the fastest, just faster than the slowest, so the bear doesn’t get me. C’mon Old Dog, don’t get your panties in a wad! Everyone wants Murray to do well. It’s OK to point out his inconsistencies. The closer he gets to che championship game, the closer he will be on the big stage and his team as well as the DAWG Nation are counting on him to at least not throw three interceptions. He knows what he is doing wrong and he blamed it on himself which is mighty big of him. Yes, he’s a good quarterback with so much talent. You don’t, however, expect him to suddenly fall apart and make mistake after mistake again and again. If he’s nervous, drink some cool-aid or something! They’r playing for a championship and it’s time to play like a champion! Murray knows this and no one is harder on him than he is to himself! The DAWG Nation thinks the world of Aaron Murray! Murray and Bobo both say Murray’s problem is that he needs to settle down…….No, his problem is he is SCARED against the elite teams. We used to say a QB had ” happy feet ” when we knew he was scared of the pass rush. That is Murray plain and simple. Just watch him agaist the weak teams, his feet are smooth, but against the elite teams , his feet are moving in all directions. They need to replace him or learn to lose to the elite teams.
ps….he played like crap in thew 2nd half. we just ran simple passes outside, kinda like the 5yd pass to mitchell (mitchell took it the other 40 yds )

I was absolutely making a valid point about options “if” coaches were to change. ARDawg said it was pointless and moot. So you are telling him that shows he is happy with the status quo? Not sure he would agree..
But maybe you can give me an answer to my question. Who could Alabama hire tomorrow, or LSU that is faster than the bear? The current bear being Saban I suppose. Although I think there are other Bears out there this year.

Leading up to last weekend I was stating very plainly that if the Dawgs lost that it would be time for a regime change in Athens. My contention then was that if they lost yet another big game with everything that was riding on that game, then the “problem” was something the current staff could not correct and therefore the only solution would be to clean house.
I am now in wait and see mode because I want to see if the players will continue to play with heart. Yes, it did require a player to get them riled up because sometimes kids blow off the same thing coming from an authority figure. Now that the point is made and the response was positive, can the players realize that what the coaches are telling them isn’t just blah, blah, blah and accept coaching. Then we will see what these Dawgs are really made of. If they are listening and playing hard, then we will see if what they are being taught is “good enough”.
There are subtle differences in the way things are taught that make all the difference. You can be saying all the right things but if the style doesn’t match the student then it doesn’t get through. I was seeing guys just not going after it, being in the wrong place or being a day late and a dollar short. After last week I want to see if they go get it against a lesser foe. That is how I am evaluating it right now.

QB A Murray is a fourth year student/ athlete. Why are we having this discussion about Aaron’s game moment decisions?
Answer: Murray is too emotional to play big game SEC QB. his big game record of pics, fumbles and horrific decision making is there for the world to see. Many of his pics and fumbles led directly to losses in those big games. It is what it is folks.

Aaron Murry is a good QB, but to be a great one he just need’s to focus and forget about the stress. You put stress on yourself when you worry too much. What you can’t control are many things in games so forget about it and just play ball. There are several pro’s that he can watch Payton, Eli, Rogers, and the Ice-man in Atlanta. If you make a mistake, forget it and drive on. Prepare yourself with deep breathing techniques before the game and during it, if he is pumped-up. Check your read’s and focus, because if we make it all the way, Alabama or LSU are coming.

I agree with junkyardbyrd, Murray can complete a pass when there is no dfense against him. I am 67 years old and could do the same thing; however, when pressed he does not protect the ball, he doesn’t read the defense and throws the ball when he should have thrown the bal;l awat, pulled it down and ran or taken a loss on the play. Also, it really bugs me the way he trots on the field, kinda like a girl. Just my observation.

Murray figured out how to beat Florida, the last 2 years in a row.
It was his biggest win at UGA over #3 ranked team.
He had a bad first half, but got a lot more accurate after halftime.
I thought he threw over the middle into traffic too much, and didn’t hit his checkdowns far enough, but bottom line, UGA beat #3 Florida and is now 1 more big win away from the National Championship (Alabama is only obstacle left).
I felt it was a decision making issue, more than footwork. If in doubt, hit checkdown or throw it away.

I suspect, when the defense was playing so well, and Florida was turning the ball over so much, Murray had a more high risk gunslinger mode.
Murray made all the right adjustments at halftime, and didn’t throw another interception, and made a HUGE throw to Mitchell on 3rd down, to put the game away.
UGA is now the 3rd best 2nd half team in the nation (if you combine offense and defense). Higher than Bama or LSU. That’s how you win big games, and championships.
Can’t expect to play perfect against great defenses, but UGA has shown now, play big in 2nd half, and you can win these kind of games
That’s the 3rd top 25 team Murray has beaten now, he’s learning how to win these big games.

When Murray is successful he relies on timing patterns, and strong, pressing defenses take away that type of throw. I think his success at the next level is not a sure thing.
