Best account I’ve seen yet of the pregame skirmish that occurred before Georgia-Florida this past Saturday comes from Palm Beach Post reporter Jason Lieser.
I didn’t see but the very tail-end of the incident myself as it happened right around the time they were preparing for the pregame toss. But according to Lieser, Florida safety Matt Elam instigated the incident by bumping Georgia’s Devin Bowman. Apparently a bunch of Georgia players then responded to the taunts of Elam and teammate Dominique Easley, including Todd Gurley, Malcolm Mitchell, Corey Moore and Arthur Lynch.
Liesler reports that Florida strength coach Jeff Dillman interceded and ended up shoving Moore. That drew Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and some other assistant coaches and referees into the fray. This is the part I saw and skirmish quickly dissipated with both sides squawking as they went their separate ways.
Wrote Lieser:
Gators strength coach Jeff Dillman, who later had at least one very animated conversation with a ref, was involved as well. Dillman shoved Georgia safety Corey Moore, then got in the face of a Bulldogs assistant.
The whole affair was over in less than a minute and no penalties were assessed (though officials would make up for that later).
Georgia coach Mark Richt claimed on his Sunday conference call he knew nothing of the incident until seeing a vague reference to it on the TV broadcast replay.
“You know what, I don’t know what happened,” he said. “I watched the TV copy of the game and they showed a little bit of that. You could tell there was some chirping and all that, but I don’t think anybody got physical or anything like that.”
Informed for Dillman’s shove and when it happened, Richt said: “I’d have to look at it. I’m not really worried about that right now.”
Grantham acknowledged the incident after the game but claimed he was merely telling the Georgia players to get out of the way. “I was telling our guys to get off the field,” he said.
The “chippiness” carried over into the game, where the teams combined to be flagged 24 times, including several personal foul penalties.
“That was one of the most intense games I’ve ever coached from start to finish,” Richt said. “. . . You want intensity with discipline. But I didn’t want to slow anybody’s ability to keep their blood hot.”

The question for Tampa Gator is that IF (huge if i know) Dawgs beat Tide; Oregon loses either to OSU or USC; and Notre Dame loses to Stanford or USC…will Tampa root for Dawgs in the MNC?

Alabama, contrary to popular belief, is outstanding but not invincible. LSU will defend them effectively and so can the Dawgs. Recall that Ohio State was going to wax Florida a few years back in the BCS game…

In my BIASED opinion Tampa Gator has ALWAYS conducted himself classy on here!!!!!!!!!!
I believe it takes a little class to make the type comments he has made after what had to be a devasting loss Saturday so I have to say to all dawg fans HOW ABOUT SHOWING A LITTLE CLASS and quit acting like Auburn and Bama fans after they won a MNC!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the same thing until he whined incessantly Sunday about what he perceived as bad calls by the refs in the game. That after UGA had 4 more penalties for 37 more yards. Folks on the blog at the time beat him down for his excuse-making until he finally sulled up and left. Once a gator, always a gator. An arrogant excuse-maker.
“Beast,” on the other hand, has earned my respect.

Kirby isn’t going to stay an assistant much longer. He’s been with Saban for a long time now and I know he’s ready to spread his wings as a head coach.

@ Infant Dawg – Tampa Gator has openly acknowledged support of the Dawgs as long as they are not playing Florida. He would likely support them if playing for NC. Still don’t agree with all of his logic but I guess it’s consolation for him to hope for UGA to fail so UF can eat to New Orleans by default. However, he was off on his prediction of LSU to Cap 1 Bowl. They would go to Cotton Bowl before any bowl in Florida.

Cbs showed a snippet of the skirmish in their lead in for the game. The replay is available on comcast ondemand under css. I didn’t think the fla coach pushing ga players away from fla players was all that bad. At the end of the clip, though, you see a ga coach w a headset (grantham??) come up to the fla coach and it looks like he got in his face and shoved him. Tough to tell but I was surprised that CBS didn’t hone in on that.

Gato18, UF was physically pounded, tone was set the first series. The only reason it wasn’t a blowout was the terrible half by our qb. By the end of the game not only were the gators physically whipped, they were mentally whipped as well, al the talk had left them and they were left to being “tattle tales” by pointing when someone said something to them. Just like a bully, run that mouth until someone puts a fist in it and then they turn tail and run away.

I like your post but Murray’s first two INTs were right on the money. In our recievers hands. They could have been caught but got tipped up to the defense. Now the third INT. by Murray, looked like it just “sailed” on him. That was all Murray. He was rock solid after that…

The Gators and their fans have thought they were bad as**s for years – now they see that when it comes to playing hard they’re no longer the baddest – we went in there and when they threw their best punch they got two back and they folded like a cheap paper doll – I think it was Driskell who had the “deer in the headlights look” – not Murray LOL Bottom line – they were the fumbling, bumbling, didn’t have an answer team that they are – they’ve never outclassed Georgia in talent or anything else – we’ve had a bad run against them but the tide has turned and we will once again kick their swamp butts all over the field – just like the good old days when we owned them for DECADES – yeah, that’s the part of the history they’ve been trying to hide and forget about, but guess what boys – “WE’RE BACK” !

Looks like we are working towards the Gamecocks being the top ranked team in the BCS standing from SEC East. Sure, we lost to FL and FL lost to Dawgs, but those loses were hard fought. UGA LAYED down for 3 qtrs vs SC. That game shows the true LACK OF HEART the UGA program and CMR/CTG have. Sure, UGA has others do their dirty work, but will UGA ever beat SC again? Nah, don’t think so.

Joe Jenkins, Murray’s three int’s were all on him. The first was thrown into triple coverage and the ball did not hit the receiver in the hands. In fact it was deflected on a nice play by one of the Florida DB’s. The second one (a TD drive killer by the way) was behind an open receiver as he cut over the middle of the field. Yes the receiver reached back to try to make a play but his momentum was such that all he could do was deflect it up and into the hands of a Florida DB. The third one was just awful as Murray’s feet were in a bad position as he seemed to be panicking over a phantom pass rush. He whipped the ball at least 15 feet over Marlon Brown’s head into a waiting Florida DB’s hands.

T-DAWG commented earlier about the refs having a “huge chip on their shoulders”…nonsense!! They showed tremendous restraint by not throwing out several players during the first quarter…they knew both teams would be high on emotion early and did what they were trained to do…throw flags and later went to both coaches to warn them that if the ugliness continued, players would be ejected from the game. The best conference in the land also has some of the best officials in the land…period!! Great job refs…T-DAWG, keep a count on the suds before watching the game…you’ll enjoy it much better.

Granthem is a hot head who cannot be trusted to set an appropriate example for college aged players. He’s an immature bully and can be best described more fitting as a gang-leader….thus his popularity among Georgia players. Sadley, he is from the same school of coaching as the now disgraced Greg Williams of the Saints bounty-gate scandal and should not be allowed on a sideline with anyone under 21. Thank goodness there are men with integrity in football like Mark Richt and Will Muschamp…those who will not put up or condone the Gang violence mentality that Granthem and those like do.

Congradulations Dawgs on the Fl. win. After watching Fl.vs LSU game, I expected and predicted another blow out like UGA vs South Carolina. This was a UGA win we have been longing for … with every player giving great effort the entire game.
The Fl. coach shoving a UGA player is no big deal. I cannot imagine a Fl. coach deliberatly seeking out a UGA player to shove. My guess is the Fl. coach was trying to keep things under control. Again my guess, based on the whole game (24 penalities), the UGA player was “chripping” and that made the coachs’ decision on which player to shove an easy one.
After the last few years, I’m under no illusions about UGA and their chances for “major” championships. Jarvis Jones excluded, UGA is not a good team. Overall the team lacks discipline. Players gets in their opponents “faces” and tout them, resulting in personal fouls (Mitchell) and excessive celebration penalities (Mitchell and Gurley)… this IMO is a coach problem.
