Richt: ‘I’d say we were not soft’ (plus other postgame quotes)

WHAT THEY SAID AFTER GEORGIA’S VICTORY OVER FLORIDA

“I’d say we were not soft. The defense rose to the occasion, and everyone fought their tails off. There was a lot of emotion and two really good football teams getting after it.”

– Georgia coach Mark Richt

“I’ve said all season long — we’re not a team that has a lot of margin of error. Obviously, six (Florida) turnovers led to 10 (Georgia) points, critical plays in the game. … You’ve got to give (Georgia) credit. You’ve got to rise up to those opportunities you have, and you have to make those plays. They did and we didn’t, but six turnovers — wow. That’s tough to overcome.”

– Florida coach Will Muschamp

“What can this guy not do? He gets sacks, forces interceptions, forces fumbles.”

– Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo on linebacker Jarvis Jones’ huge game

“Jarvis is a great player. To come back from an ankle sprain the way he did … and come out here and do what he did, I’d pick him No. 1 in the draft.”

– Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell

“I had a great game, but it’s about what we did as a defense. All of us did what we came here to do. We beat the No. 2 team in the nation, and it’s a great feeling.”

– Jones

“We knew we had the guys to make plays; we just hadn’t been making them. And I think the challenge from the media and the challenge from (safety) Shawn Williams, I think that opened some guys up. Everybody went out and played hard.”

– Cornerback Damian Swann on how the UGA defense responded to Williams’ early-week comments that the unit had been playing soft

“We prepared hard this whole week. I’ve never seen these guys practice like this before. … Everybody thought we were soft. They had more people carted off the field than we did.”

– Rambo

“The fans were really propelling us that whole game. They were loud, getting us pumped up.”

– Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray

“Oh, man, were there really that many?”

– Murray, when told there were nine turnovers in the game (three by Georgia and six by Florida)

“It was a rough game. That was an SEC defensive matchup right there. Offensively, we had our shots at points, but we were just making mistakes when it comes to turnovers, penalties, stuff that we need to correct.”

– Murray

“We hadn’t had a lot of turnovers this year (four before Saturday), so it’s just kind of a shock to everybody.”

– Florida defensive back Jaylen Watkins

“He ran it 27 times and didn’t fumble it, which is huge.”

– Richt on freshman tailback Todd Gurley, who had 118 yards rushing

“We’re right where we want to be.”

– Gurley on the Bulldogs being in position to win the SEC East if they defeat Ole Miss and Auburn

“It was awesome. Everyone was going crazy. I feel like we were out there for 20 or 30 minutes. There isn’t a better feeling.”

– Richt on the postgame celebration on the field

Where are all the gators? I guess they can’t handle losing to a better team two years in a row. Better luck reptiles against Mizzou, maybe you can handle them. We thank you for beating South Carolina for us, we had that hiccup, but you know God smiles down on his own.

Need mistake-free ball from Murray from here on out. If the play isn’t there, throw it out of bounds. Don’t force it. Will necessitate near perfection and a comparable performance to the defensive effort tonight to knock off Bama.

Shawn Williams did a great job waking up the the defense. Now he should kick Murray’s ass for trying to give the game away.

The biggest thing i seen different today was the d-lines push. They pushed their o-line back into the qb and anytime you do that the backers can do their thing making db job easier to.Looks like the Aburn coaches will be without a job. Two great games in a row for Jordan Jenkins the true freshman. He’s the man next year.

Ole Lady Luck fell on our side tonight. With that many turnovers and penalties, the game could have gone either way. The Gators and Dawgs both played an emotional game with lots of mistakes. We were lucky to come out with the win. Like I said in 1980, “Run Malcolm!! (just like Lindsey). There will be a lot pf property destroyed tonight!” Go Dawgs!!

Very good Defensive effort. Finally. Remains to be seen whether this was a one off or will it carry over for the remainder of the season. Great effort by a number of players especially Jones and Mitchell. Game changers.

Great quote! There were lizards littering the carpet all night.

Not to make light of injuries, you always hope that they’re not serious but Marcus Lattimore’s injury was. Say a prayer for that young man if you believe in it, heck of a good kid and outstanding player.

Way to go dawgs great win but you need to thank the defense for this game . Why is it that Murray can not play to his patential when the dawgs play in Jacksonville ? seems like he chokes when they play Fla. and to thoses that may have seen the tenn. s.c. game prayers go out to M. Lattamore. I know its south carolina but this is a great running back and good person. he was hurt in the 2nd quarter and was hit and it looked as if he had a broken leg. He was wheeled off. the field and sent to the hospital . and it was great to see the tenn. and s.carolina players meet in the middle of the field and surround lattimore. gret sportsmenship.

Got to win in the DOME before you get to the national championship. and while your playing for the SEC championship keep thinking about Oregen and you just might be watching them instead of playing against them. thats like counting your chickens before they hatch. Alabama is good but on any given day they can be beaten dont you think?

WE HAVEN’T WON THE SEC EAST UNTIL WE BEAT OLE MISS and AUBURN.

And quit dogging the players for what they didn’t do… Be thankful for what they did!

The Dawgs are a late season team. Remember ‘07?

Lets get behind these guys and talk about what we need to do to beat Ole Miss.

And of course, celebrate a big win over the Gators!

If we get on a roll, we could be a very dangerous team. But if we go out and play lackluster games, we might get beat. Mississippi is a good football team and they have nothing to lose. And Auburn has been terrible, but they would want nothing more than to play one great game to spoil our season.

Not to mention that we have 4 more games in the regular season.

We need to keep players focused on these games, and we also need to hope we keep guys healthy.

All the goals are in front of the Dawgs. It starts with Ole Miss. If we play defense like we did today the rest of the season, it’s gonna be fun.

I Bet that old Daffy Duck sounding washed up of a coach on ESPN will have the hardest time saying anything nice about Georgia. A couple of weeks ago he was handing the Tile to to south carolina. Now if only Notre Dame would lose so he will shut up about them. Ha Ha to Holtz and May. Now go and give JJ the helmet sticker he diserves.

Kudos to the fans who saw this game for what it was, a stroke of genuine luck, Cleveland Dawg you had it right, JasonFm is a big part of our problem. Now the entire UGA nation think they are the mightiest thing going. The ONLY thing this win accomplished was to shut up the on the fence fans, give the team the BIG head (i.e. wait til next week), and insured that the idiot we have as a head coach remains there forever. I’m glad everyone is happy to accept this mediocre team and even worse coaching staff. If Florida had not turned the ball over 6 times we would have lost a game to probably the worst Florida team that has ever took the field, NUMBER 2, you’ve got to be kidding. Now we await the humiliating A$$ whipping from BAMA, so have fun with that (BUT HEY YOU ARE 7-1 and Richt thinks that is just terrific.) Pretty lame when a senior had to become the coach of the team and get them motivated. Not sure how many more years I will have to put up with Richt, I could be dead before anyone would ever have the gnads to get rid of him, but if they ever do then what a party it will be!!!

Uh… I don’t need to attach “real” to my nickname…
Where are the people thinking it was going be a 5 touchdown defeat? Where are all the people who thought the mighty Gators were going to manhandle our “Charmin soft” lines? Where are all the “Georgia can’t win the big games” people? I see the naysayers have fled… typical.
I am not just a Dawg when we win. I am a Dawg win, lose or draw.
Thank you for answering the call Bulldogs. It’s isn’t any fun to play half-heartedly guys. Remember this day. Remember this day when you finish out the SEC slate and go to Atlanta for the second year in a row.
I want to caution everyone about assuming that Bama will be the west representative. They have to get through LSU and that will be in Death Valley. It could very well be LSU in the Ga.Dome and not Bama. But whatever may come… if these Dawgs show up for that game it will be a Great day to be a Georgia Bulldog.
But for now…THIS is a GREAT DAY to be a Georgia Bulldog!
