Notebook: Georgia’s offensive line will be shuffling again against Gators

ATHENS — Georgia’s offensive line will be shuffling again in the Florida game.

Juniors Dallas Lee and Kenarious Gates are expected to start as usual at left guard and tackle, respectively. But Lee has been playing on a bad ankle since the Tennessee game. So the Bulldogs are increasingly turning to junior college transfer Mark Beard, who they bring in at left tackle and slide Gates inside to guard when Lee needs to come out of games.

Beard played extensively this past Saturday against Kentucky. Lee continues to practice rather than rest the ankle, so his durability on Saturday will be closely monitored.

“Dallas has got to get healthy,” said offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who called this a “competition week” to determine playing time on Saturday. “But it’s good that Mark got a lot of experience last week.”

Beard, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound sophomore, is starting to resemble the player Georgia thought it had recruited out of Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

“I think it’s good that Mark got a lot of experience last week and has been getting more and more each week,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “He had to play a lot in the Tennessee game because Dallas went down and South Carolina he didn’t play that much. But he’s played well. He’s still got a lot to learn but he’s an athletic guy who’s got good hands and good feet. I’m pleased with what we’re seeing.”

Georgia’s center position and right side of the line has remained largely unchanged all season, with center David Andrews, guard Chris Burnette and tackle John Theus.

Obviously Georgia’s line play is going to be crucial if the Bulldogs are to establish any offense against Florida stout defensive front. Richt indicated the unit has played better than a lot of people might think, the difficulties in the South Carolina game notwithstanding.

“I think we’ve got a bunch of linemen that at least know what to do and get their hat on the right guy most of the time and they’re fighting,” he said. “When you do that, it gives you a chance. . . . Are we physically dominating everybody? No, not at all. But if you hit the right guy and do it.”

Turnovers a key

To beat Florida, Georgia is going to have to win the turnover battle. To date, nobody has done that yet.

The Gators enter Saturday’s game plus-11 in turnover margin, which is places them among the top 10 teams nationally. Georgia is even in turnover margin  for the season.

The Bulldogs’ coaches have been working overtime to emphasize that to the team this week. Richt said they made a video of all of South Carolina’s turnovers against Florida last week and showed them to the team. They Gamecocks had four miscues in the first half and Florida finished plus-4 for the game to help it score a season-high 44 points.

Georgia’s coaches also shared this stat: The top 12 teams in the nation in turnover ratio have a combined record of 87-5, with 6-1 being the worst mark.

“It’s the most devastating momentum against you when  you turn it over,” Richt said. “You lose field position, you usually give up points and you give up momentum. But if you gain a turnover it’s the same thing. You steal a possession from them; you don’t have to worry about them punting and you gain momentum. That’s what you’re looking for.”

mentioned that the top teams nationally are also the leaders in turnover margin. Also, he said he showed the team highlights of last week’s Florida-South Carolina contest as the Gators were plus four in turnover margin, and it helped them score a season-high 44 points.

Florida has just four turnovers this year and played four games without one while the Bulldogs have had three games without a turnover.

Injury report

For the second day in a row, tight end Jay Rome reported to practice late after receiving extra treatment in the Georgia training room. The redshirt freshman tight end is not listed on the daily injury report but said he is dealing. He is not expected to miss Saturday’s game. “It’ll be fine,” he said Wednesday. “Nothing major.”

One new name on Wednesday’s injury report was Quayvon Hicks. The freshman fullback came out of Tuesday’s full-contact work with a concussion and did not practice. His availability for Saturday is unknown… Linebacker Brandon Burrows also missed with a concussion.

Weather watch

Richt said he has watched the weather reports with interest as Hurricane Sandy makes its way through the Caribbean Islands toward southern Florida. The latest computer models have the storm missing Jacksonville but are predicting high winds for Saturday’s game.

“I’ve been hearing 22 mile-an-hour winds,” Richt said. “That is a lot of wind. That effects a game a lot more than rain, especially if it’s a cross wind.”

Etc …

Georgia practiced for 30 minutes Wednesday in shoulder pads, helmets and shorts. “Wednesday’s in the books,” Richt said. “No more hitting until Saturday.” … Last year marked the first time in series history both Georgia and Florida had a bye before meeting in Jacksonville. The Gators had an open date before in 15 of the last 19 years. They were 15-4 in those games. Neither team had a bye this year.

Quote from Coach Richt, “I think we’ve got a bunch of linemen that at least know what to do and get their hat on the right guy most of the time and they’re fighting,” he said. “When you do that, it gives you a chance. . . . Are we physically dominating everybody? No, not at all. But if you hit the right guy and do it.”

That’s a pretty impressive statement, sometimes I wonder why he even opens his mouth.

I hope that Coach Bobo will finally aim for 4 aggressive quarters of play-calling on Saturday vs. the eeeeee-vil Gators. As usual, we took the half-time lead against Kentucky (barely). We took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half, and Bobo decides that we should emphasize the faulty running game while Kentucky was unable to stop our passing game. So, we had 2 straight “3 and outs” until he remembered that Murray was almost unstoppable that night. This is a habitual Bobo-ism that he really needs to delete from his brain…… GO DAWGS!

Why didn’t Beard play against SCu? He has looked better than Gates at LT all season, and Gates was getting manhandled by Clowney, yet there are the coaches, thumbs firmly planted in asses, never acknowledging reality.

Theres something missing somewhere people. Its not that we lack the talent with players but maybe its the lack of talent with coaching. What irk’s me is how Richt thinks that some players havent had their best performances yet.
CMR has no determination on his face…….no urgency……..more like a happy jolly look. Might as well dance to the locker room singing “wizard of Oz”.
Aint no Wizard and certainly may be possible CMR has been in the land of Oz since pre-season began.
Wouldve loved to see his face while he watched his son play college football…….maybe an intense look or maybe a Gomer Pyle look.
CMR couldnt get pumped up if he was a bicycle tire. Where are the Alumni in all this mayhem? Totally unacceptable…….i want Jim Donnan back!
You grade students and dont grade coaches. If i graded CMR i’d give him a “C” , Todd Grantham “F”, Mike Bobo “F-”.
1-9 in top 10 teams are you kidding me? Thats a failing score in any math.
CMR you are a good man but you suck as a coach. Fans had warned you to get rid of Bobo but you held on and now that noose is bout to choke you.
Then to go along with anarchy here comes The Todd Grantham debacle to add to it.
Narcacists abound fans.
CMR is so totally burned out folks and so is his coaching staff and the last 4 years proves it. We need a set of fresh ideas, fresh legs, intensity, motivating personell to take Georgia and move forward.
Look Grantham has an extensive background on the defensive side but i think his defense is so complex that those players get confused alot with their assignments and give up those big plays.
Let loose of the reins abit and simplify it Todd.
Bobo is never going to change……you just cant fix STUPID. One dimensional folks.
We really hurt on our Offensive Line and why CMR accepts mediocrity is beyond me. Listen when you set a record losing 3 straight games to S. Carolina which hasnt happened in 100 years then its time to go.
When you allow either a QB, or RB or WR to have a career game, its time to go and this has happened more than twice in the last 4 years.
When you get paid 5 million a year which is almost 416,000 a month and im betting CMR gets paid more when he goes to bowls or theres incentives but what if he underperforms then what?
Any good Christian Man wouldnt feel right and most likely give some of that money back.
This is about revenue nothing more………just people who only care about that pay check because results dont lie.
If players under perform then coaches get onto them well these coaches have under performed and you betcha im onto them.
You can sugar-coat things if you like but they put this on theirselves and after the Florida Game CMR and his staff will be making arrangements on where their next tenure will be.

Richt/Bobo can shuffle the O-line all they want. It still won’t make up for the lack of talent and poor recruiting they have done. UGA has no backup QB ready, poor special teams, and a defensive coordinator, who checked out after he got his money and was told not to cuss at players. Even the UGA AD is as crazy as Richt when he said on 790 the Zone, that UF is not UGA’s primary rival and the Tech game is more important. The Cult of MediocRity is stealing millions of dollars and living it up while doing everything the same dumb way hoping in vain for different results. UGA WILL REMAIN NATIONALLY IRRELEVANT as long as the washed-up 90s FSU mentality remains in charge. Go UGA ! To Hell with MediocRity !!

Changing and switching around the offensive line or any position creates inconsistancies and lack of cohesiveness….which creates confusion……Look out…our OL does not need to be confused. I wonder what switching around the backs vs teams like SC, Kentucky, or UF might do. I know the Gurley, Marshall greatness occurred vs lesser teams…… Why do we not have a back up plan for those backs if they have trouble running against better SEC teams if our OL is not consistant? I know they switch the WR’s around because of the great talent they have. Why not use your bigger more experienced vs SEC teams backs to run vs SC and UF and Kentucky…. Yes I mean using Samuel and Malcome. They might be an asset running up the middle so we might have a middle running game….Gurley and Marshall have had a difficult time running anything up the middle in recent games because of the recent competition and poor OL play for the run. I have always felt with all those WR’s and our passing game that the OL must spend more time at practice on the passing game instead of the running game. Not taking anything away from what Gurley and Marshal have done but it was vs inferior teams instead of elite or better SEC teams…. As far as recruiting…We have to recruit an effective back to take the place of Samuel and Malcome when he finishes and get them ready to replace Gurley and Marshall if they leave early….That prospect does not look good either. Another thing. Everyone knows if GA runs a trick play to look for it early in the game….. That is just a little item that every team that has played GA has known for years. It seems every year about this time that everyone else catches up with Georgia…They improve, Ga starts out highly ranked with a heady attitude and when they stump their toes VS SC. They do not react to being kicked in the face very well because of their dream of being better than we really are. One example is the Defense this year…. Hopefully they are not back to reality and will kick UF in the face and give them a bit of reality. Go Dawgs

If the wind is strong and could be a problem, keep it on the ground and pass for short yardage gains if you have to. If the O line can do their job, UGA should be able to move the ball.
The defense needs to show up ready to hit hard and put the pressure on. There is no big secret to what Florida does. They aren’t going to beat any team if you force them to pass a lot, so that’s what the D has to do. I don’t know if they will, but Florida is not some big enigma or has a secret formula to winning games.
The team that wants the win most, will come out on top. Past games are history now, so it is up to UGA to show they want to be considered a really good team, versus an average team in the SEC. Worry about any team in the SEC West down the road. One game at a time and leave it all on the field.

Dooley was never intended to be anything more than a placeholder HC from the outset. Fulmer had allowed the football program to become stale and loyalty had kept him there far longer than he should have been. Then Lane Kiffin used Tennessee to promote himself for the USC job and left the football program in a total shambles. Now that Dooley has cleaned up Kiffin’s mess, Tenessee will hire a real Head Coach. Vols fans will owe Dooley a debt of gratitude for stepping into that disaster and preparing their football program to mount a comeback — just as Bama fans owe a debt of gratitude to Mike Shula.

It has now become painfully obvious….we do not have the o-line needed to compete in the upper-level of SEC play. We recruit in all these skill players, and we have the talent on defense….they just are not getting it done right now. But, while we are pretty good at recruiting skill players, our lack of top recruits on the o-line has shown through. We can only improve so much there, because there just is not enough talent overall. Our center is shorter than our QB. (6-2 my foot…if he is 6-2 then so is Danny Divito.) We play soft, and get physically dominated by the better teams. Coaches, PLEASE put as much effort (and success) into gettin linemen as you do other positions. We have really fallen behind in this category, and the team will have to depend on luck, turnovers, etc. until this blatant problem is addressed. Doesn’t everybody see that? I am not a fair-weather fan, but coaches, writers, fans, alumni, and everybody else has known (and discussed) this weakness for awhile. We have done ZILCH to address it, and now EVERY GOOD TEAM WE PLAY crowds us up front and spanks our tails in front of fans, t.v. folks, etc. Gotta have the studs up front! The strong wind will tip Murray off balance big time, and thus doom UGA’s offense.

On top of that, your defense is horrible.

Every indicators tell me a big win for FL.

I put a lot of blame on the OL and DL coaches, there is just not the enthusiam, hard hitting we should be playing at UGA. Offensive QB, RB’s have looked good when they have blocks, protection. Just not the OL we need. We need some mean sob’s there, as well as no penatration on the DL. Teams have run up our middle as if there is no one there, and they usually are not there.

Until we start recruiting where the game is won in the trenches we want beat teams on our level. Every year we recruit the best talent but it always lacks linemen. No matter how good your wr, rb, or qb is if you cant penetrate the line or hold your own u lose. Funny thing is we run a pro style offense and never recruit enough linemen. We recruit like we are a spread team with all the rb’s and wr we recruit. Guess Richt being a former qb himself forgot u can’t throw it if your on your back. Oh i forgot he never seen the field much being a backup. Guess that is why he continues to play upper classmen instead of the best at the position. It will be so painful if we lose to the hated Gaytors, but maybe it would have a silver lining and help send Richt out the door. SICK OF RICHT!!!

Bottom line………….takes Clydesdales up front, not Shetland ponies. We cannot block a decent team. QB running for his life, backs getting major yardage on patsies, but getting smacked by better teams. Look at all the GREAT o-linemen who got away…………and have thus made us a middle-of-the-pack team!

It all comes back to OL recruiting. We have not recruited athletic OLmen. This year is no different. We are putting all of our eggs in one basket with Tunsil. If he doesn’t come, we will have missed out again. None of the three committed will play tackle, and only one is SEC material.

With our RBs we can run on any line with some creative enough game plan and play calling. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out whats coming from the Georgia offense, unfortunately. A good mixed balanced attack and even good defenses are on their heels.

Yep… Georgia has a stable full of seasoned and proven running backs.

I admit, after the UK, as much as I like CMR, I have come to the conclusion that he can’t win the big game. There just always is a big part of their game missing that one can contribute to coaching. I’m pulling hard for my Dawgs Saturday and that includes Richt! College football needs men like Richt in HC positions.
I will agree, another poor performance and clueless play and he might want to consider coaching in the ACC. Get em going Coach. Beat the gators and who ever is in the the SEC CG game!

Sorry ’bout all the cryin’………I just hate that UGA let our line get in this shape, then expect our backs/Qb to bail us out. A first-class program recruits well. They may not win it all every year, but they DO attempt to address shortcomings. We have not done that by any stretch of the imagination. We have been badly out recruited by other teams, and the good teams have exposed it every time! Why, I wonder, when we know what the problem is will we not do much about it? If we can recruit so well at other positions, we should here, too! We will not be a top-notch SEC team until we do!

I like our chances if the staff develops a “ball control” offensive gameplan. I think we would actually surprise them if we came out without gimmicks, i.e. end arounds, post patterns, etc. I would like to see the Oline challenged, then execute their blocks. We may have some three and outs, but my bet is as the game wears on our running game starts consistently moving the chains, and killing the clock.

Florida’s offense is not the strength of this team, with a decent effort the defense should be able to keep us in the game. We never establish a flow offensively against the better teams. Seems like Bobo panics and goes straight to the pass.

@ Mobile Dawg: UGa doesn’t have the athletes on the O-line that you have to have to pound the ball in the SEC. Richt/Bobo are so finesse-minded they wouldn’t stick with the run even if it the O-line by miracle didn’t get “whipped”. Was there any balance for UGA vs. Kentucky ? The Cats shutdown the run and pass-lovin’ Richt passed, passed, passed. It’s all he knows.

Also Richt is a very soft guy and by now he’s rubbed off on the freshmen running backs. Now they are soft. Finesse Georgia will have virtually no running game vs. UF and erratic QB Murray will be running for his life throwing 40-45 attempts in the wind. It will be another national embarrasement for UGA. And I’m predicting Ole Miss will “upset” UGA in Athens. All the 90s FSU creampuffs have got to be ran out of UGA.

They need to shuffle a little more than the OL. They need to shuffle the coaches. Some need to stay, some need to be move to other positions, and some just need to be let go. There is no reason, with the talent UGA brings in every year, why they should be playing the crappy ball they have been playing year in and year out. Other teams coach up their players, UGA seems to “dumb them down” to their competition.
Florida will win Saturday (big) because… well…UGA sucks! They will be out coached, out played, and Florida is playing like a team that wants it more. Why? Because their coaches coach. They don’t spend their downtime in tanning booths or shuffling a line that should be gelling by now. They coach up their players to the competition/the game. Georgia has, for years, settled to below mediocre status; and seems content with that position.
When will enough be enough? Shawn Williams was right; but its the whole team that is playing soft and that comes from the freaking coaches not doing their damn job!
Enough is enough, people. The players deserve better; the University deserves better; and those of us that love the Dawgs deserve better.

a) if it’s windy, UGA wins, Murray can put a tight spiral on the ball, Driskell, lucky to throw it forward….
b) since 2007, whichever team won the turnovers, won this game, UGA in 2007 & 2011. Florida was real sloppy last season with turnovers in this game, hopefully, that continues.
c) But if we turnover, do it in the red zone, make their terrible 102 ranked offense drive 80 yards, which they can’t do.
d) only way Georgia loses is turnovers, Florida just can put up the yards on offense to win, Driskell can’t pass. Muschamp doesn’t trust Driskell to pass, must be a reason why.

Sandy

October 25th, 2012

Georgia should get a LOT of pressure on Florida, as their oline has given up an SEC worst 21 sacks, they can’t block anybody. Look for an interception on some fo the QB pressures, or a sack fumble as Driskell has fumbled 3 times in 7 games.

To win the Dawgs have to score more points than the Gators. Duh! The defense is more the question mark. Like last year the Dawgs are more dependent upon the pass since they have not had consistent or dominant run blocking from the OL. The Gators can focus upon defending the pass. The difference is that for some reason this year the defense has not performed well so keeping the Gators from scoring much is probably not going to happen. So the outcome for the Dawgs is probably riding on the arm of Murray and the hands of the receivers. We’ve got to be able to score and score a lot.

Question – how many on here, saying that UGA sucks, think that South Carolina sucks? Your base seems to be that they blew us out and we almost lost to Kentucky, so we suck? USC just got blew out and was loosing to Kentucky for more than a half. You can’t have it both ways, either they both suck, or they both had an off game, and Kentucky, while not winning games, can play good at times.I tend to believe the latter and think this game will be closer than a lot of UGA and Gator fans think. GO DOGGIES!

AltamahaDawg

October 25th, 2012
11:24 am

Well everything I have seen, leads me to believe that Georgia has as good of an offense as the other opponents that UF has faced, and moving the ball on them has not been a big problem. Vandy, since you mention them, had 360 yards and 25 first downs, or something like that. SO I believe we can score points. If a person is figuring odds to win, points are a pretty big deal, IMO.

They have the worst passing offense in the SEC. SO stopping them is a pretty easy formula.
Can we? Will we? We’ll see. But our defense HAS had it’s moment of good as well as bad, so it’s not like they cannot do it. Even as bad as the SC game went, the defense play (good enough to win on another day) for almost 3 quarters, it was just out of reach at that point. Folks bemoan the yards given up to those early lesser teams, but they also shut them down the second halves. So they have the capability.
And I think we have faced better offenses already.

I also think that UF will be coming into the game at the end of a very long month, in which nearly everything went thier way. That typically doesn’t last forever. Bubbles burst.

Kentucky was ugly, but my experience is that team usually play a lot better after have one of those.

Dawg Pile

October 25th, 2012
11:27 am

Sandy – you obviously haven’t watched UF play this year. They put together an 8 play – 70 yard TD drive and an 11 play – 65 yard TD drive on successive second half drives to beat LSU and a 10 play – 60 yard TD drive against USC in the beginning of the third quarter to put away the Gamecocks. Not their only drives, but significant because they imposed their will against defenses that are better than Georgia’s. The Gator offense isn’t Bill Walsh’s 49′ers, but you seem to think that they’re incompetent. Trust me, they’re not.

Joey, it might be contrary to what SOME think, but I was never the guy who said UF would suck. I see now some of those same folks, predicting Muschamp would be fired, are now flip flopping. I thought Uf would be better, its just an almost certain historical fact that teams improve the second year after a change.

But I have seen them play plenty, and no way they are the second best team in the country right now. No problem being “ranked” #2, because thats how its works.

This is a big game, let’s see what the coaches bring on both sides, unfortunately my money is on UF to have a better plan, and more likely to stick to it. Bobo just can’t seem to call a game, especially big ones, and allow any tempo or rythym to develop. It could be that he just outsmarts himself. I believe the more simple the Dawgs keep it, the better chance they have to win. UGA coaches lose this one once again IMO. JB, Bobo obviously doesn’t understand the meaning of “committing to the run”. He actually made a post game remark about how he was proud we stayed committed to the run vs UK.

Didn’t mean you.

So, right now, who do you think is better than UF? I think their D is the best I’ve watched all season, and their O is just coming around, what with a new QB, and new OC, and a much tougher schedule than anybody in the Top 10, I’d say.

Excellent special teams. Their punter can kick it a mile, and their punt returner CATCHES the damn ball, instead of letting it roll to the 2.

I just think UF is the real deal.

We may be 6-1, but those 6 teams were no good.

I have no doubt the Georgia is the better, more talented team and should win this game. However I have serious doubt that they will. I see it as much simplier than many. If the Georgia defense plays just an average game to SEC standards, not UGA standards, we win this game. The offense can score and Richt and Bobo might have gotten together and worked out a decent offensive game plan. Florida’s defense has put up some good numbers and beaten some good teams that were defense oriented. A good offense and a decent defense is going to cause Florida some problems.

If Murray can lead and the D gets it’s act together, Georgia wins this game. Anything less, we lose. Not rocket science here folks

Mobile, the condition of the program, the playes on the roster, the forever rebuilding of the running game, motivation, any number of things is completely ON the coaching staff. BUT this game is not going to hinge on “game plan”, or banalities about tempo and rythym. This game is all about the player doing thier jobs. If they DO, we win. If they DON’T, there is not a play in the world that Bobo can call that would make any difference.

If anybody has any of the koolaid left i need some for this game. I have to have something to block this game out. I just don’t think our coaching staff will measure up this week again. Out coached again. Never mind i am sick of this koolaid Richt keeps giving out. Tired of the cutting edge. I want the whole thing cut. Prediction is this 1st series Bobo calls running play up the middle for gain of 1. On 2nd down run to the outside loss of 3. On 3rd down false start. Now its 3rd and 17 and well Bobo gets very creative and its a draw. Gain of 4. Then we punt. Florida gets the ball and we stop them on 3rd down and they are 2 yards short. On 4th down Gaytors fake the punt gain of 15. Florida eventually scores td. We get the ball now Bobo starts to open the offense and on 1st down we pass and receiver drops the ball. On 2nd down false start then we run Marshall up the middle for no gain. 3rd and long Murray drops back blitz comes and sack. Does this sound all too familiar because it does to me!!! Sure hope i am wrong but i have seen it too many times.GO DAWGS BUT STILL SICK OF RICHT!!!

Wind or no wind the Dawgs will show up at the Gator Bowl for their road game. Florida has played very physical teams the last two weeks and that will take a toll in the 4th quarter. Avoid turnovers and UGA will be close going in to the 4th quarter. The wind is supposed to clear by half time according to the Weather Channel. The team with the least turnovers will win this game. Containing Driskell in the run game is key.

Altamaha, you honestly don’t think there’s a benefit to having a “specific” game plan to attack a specific opponent. That surprises me; I agree execution is critical, I’ve posted that a half dozen times this week. You don’t think that a running back, the Oline gets into a groove during the game, when they are having some success? I think our personnel stacks up against anybodys, the 5 Million dollar question is “WHY” don’t or can’t we execute? As far as running vs passing don’t you think run blocking is far easier to execute “technique” wise than pass blocking. If, as JB suggested we load up with double tight ends, a blocking fullback, and make a committment to run the ball down UF’s throat, they may stop us some, but I think we control the ball, the tempo, the game. That game plan along with some screen, and dump passes based off that formation to the backs and tight ends would give us ball and clock control. I know, Richt would never endorse something that to me makes perfect sense. He nor Bobo have the patience for an eight minute drive.

Georgia’s “D” is ranked #88 or something awful like that but Florida’s “O” is even worse – ranked #100! So it will come down to special teams, penalties and turnovers. Is that anything new? Sounds like a mid range to low scoring game art best.

No I think they DO have a game plan based on what they see UF do. That’s a given. But I think you can only “plan” to do what you are capable of doing. More of this, less of that. But they plan too, and a plan to counter our plan, and we have a plan to counter thier counter.

But when it comes down to it, you are who you are, and it comes down to doing what you do better than them doing what they do.

Expect UGA will see a lot of “wild lizard” offense with the bigger guy at QB. Florida will try to grind out 1st downs and control the ball with short passes. I would put Jenkins and Kwame Gaethers both in at DT at the same time and go to a 4 man front. Something they haven’t tried at all this year. Jenkins has been in at the same time with Gaethers but at DE where he is obviously out of position. The LBs would be Herrera, Ogletree and Jarvis Jones. Unfortunately Abry Jones will be out at DE for the remainder of the regular season. Looks like Washington and Smith at DE.

Everyone keeps harping on the UF offense, and their low production. His game plan is to get a lead, and to then commence the pounding of the rock. He knows the D is not going to give up much, so he ain’t worried about scoring a lot of points. He wants to manhandle you and pound on you till you break…which you will in the 4th qtr. He loves time of possession and pounding the ball between the tackles.
That is why the O is not highly ranked…but they can move the ball.

And no I do not think that opening holes, pulling guards, sealing off lanes, moving the others guys arouind, for run blocking is easier than pass protection. In fact I think that is far more difficult to execute. Just as I think pass rushing is more difficult for the defense than stopping the run. Not sure why “easier” is the issue though. We have to do both. I never said we shouldn’ try to set up the run. We have committed to doing that all year, not sure why we would not on Saturday.

Please god just let us show up and have some fight in us. We should know after the first few series on offense and defense how prepared we are. At some point our “playmakers” have to prove they are legitimate. Yes Coach Richt seems at times like he has no fire and our defense has been a huge disappointment but our players need to step up. I’ve been telling my friends all week we have to let Murray roll out and hit short passes some. UGA is the under Dawg and the pressure is on Florida and their young QB this time. The odds say Florida will have at least two turnovers – theory of random selection based on the fact that Florida has been getting all the breaks this year. Florida’s famous home field cooking is not as relevant as in the past due to automatic reviews of questionable calls by the refs. It just feels like a trap game for the Lizards. Perhaps a little bit of a let down coming off two big hard fought wins. Start fast and end strong – go Dawgs!

The Dawgs that blew out Vandy are the Dawgs that will show up for this game. S.C. got “blown out” by self destruction not because Florida dominated them. Eliminate the blunders and S.C. would have been right there with Florida at the end just like LSU was. I expect Florida to go deep early at least once on their 1st possession.- just the opposite of what they have been doing. Win the 1st quarter and go in with a lead at the half. Expect UGA to be ahead at the half and, for a change, not go conservative with the offense in the 3rd quarter.

Easier seems to be the least complicated way. Restating what I’ve already said, IMO the gameplan should be as uncomplicated as possible. I don’t think Murray’s going to have time to execute, nor will he be nearly as effective as he was against UK. If Muschamp wants a war, Richt needs to learn how to fight in the trenches.

This is hilarious. UF had a touchdown, an interception and a defensive stop all overturned on penalities just in the first half of last week’s home game (including the “roughing the snapper” call against UF during USC’s punt). LSU’s wide receiver was ruled on the field not to have fumbled after a critical long reception the week before, only to have instant replay overturn that mistake. Yeah, UF gets all the breaks.

So much for that conspiracy theory.

Don’t expect any blow out…… not going to happen. Like I said S.C. beat S.C. with early blunders much like Georgia did against S.C. Early turnovers are a recipe for disaster. Florida’s defense is good. They were good last year but the Dawgs won with timely passing and few blunders. The biggest thing Florida has going for them is their punter but it takes him a while to set up and kick. Put a rush on him early – why not? UGA is likely to just call for a fair catch any way.

St. John’s River – That’s what I just said. Reviews of the calls kept Florida from getting that home cooking. It’s not a bad break if the call is reversed because that is the right call. Florida used to get a couple of plays their way every Gator Bowl game – but the reviews have removed most of those “home” calls. And yes Jacksonville is a HOME game for the Lizards. UGA has to get on a plane and fly to the game which is in Florida. The Lizards go by bus. More tickets are reserved for Gator fans – obvious when you see the colors in the stadium. I am no lineman, (and maybe some who was, can tell me) but to me, effective Run blocking is a more complicated event than 3 seconds of pass protection. But again, we have to do it, (as we have almost 60% of the plays we have run so far, same as we always try to do).

And, why will Murray not have time to throw? Sacks is not UF’s big things. Kentucky has recorded more sacks than UF this year. Just saying. UF is a slightly over average pass defense team in general.
