About Florida
Record: 7-0, 6-0 SEC
Last time played: Georgia overcame a 17-3 second-quarter deficit to defeat Florida 24-20 last season, just the Bulldogs’ fourth victory over the Gators in the teams’ past 22 meetings.
Offense: Florida ranks last in the SEC in passing offense (137.7 yards per game) but third in the league in rushing offense (212.7 yards per game). The Gators’ leading rusher is senior tailback Mike Gillislee, who averages 93.1 yards per game. Sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel is 85-of-127 passing (66.9 percent) for 928 yards; four of his eight touchdown passes came in last week’s 44-11 victory over South Carolina. Driskel has run the ball 66 times for 321 net yards (4.9 per carry), including 11 carries for 177 yards against Vanderbilt.
Defense: The Gators rank No. 4 nationally in scoring defense (allowing 12.1 points per game), No. 7 in total defense (282 yards per game), No. 10 in rushing defense (97.3 yards per game) and No. 20 in passing defense (184.7 yards per game).
Special teams: Punter Kyle Christy ranks first in the nation with an average of 47.9 yards, including a school-record 54.3-yard average against South Carolina. Kicker Caleb Sturgis has made 12 of 14 field-goal attempts this season, including both of his tries from 50-plus yards.
What you should know: The Gators, No. 2 in the BCS standings, have outscored their SEC opponents 57-8 in the third quarter and 51-13 in the fourth. They are the only team in the nation with two wins over opponents ranked in the nation’s top 10 at the time of the games (LSU, South Carolina).
Coach: Will Muschamp, a former Georgia player (1991-94), is in his second season as Florida’s coach. He has a 14-6 record with the Gators (7-6 last season).

Tucker, the real problem for the dawgs is special teams or their lack there of:.
.
Playing on the special teams at UF is considered an honor among the players. Starting on special teams is viewed no differently than starting on offense or defense.
“We have a great special teams coordinator in Coach Durkin,” sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel said. “We say at the beginning of the year, ‘If you’re not on special teams, you’re a selfish player.’ We take great pride in our special teams. We work on it a lot. We have some good players on our special teams. We get down there and we cover well. When we get chances, we make big plays.
“It’s definitely an honor to get in there. It’s definitely a spot that we take pride in. Any time you’re a gunner or you’re really doing anything on special teams, it’s an honor. They take great pride in that.”
Muschamp said the winning special teams performances are a product of coaching, hard work, attention to detail and effort by the players, many of whom are starters, like Floyd, Loucheiz Purifoy, Jon Bostic, Matt Elam, Jordan Reed and many others.
“What you emphasize is what’s important,” Muschamp said. “We spend a lot of time on it. Meetings, practice and emphasis from our staff.”
The competition for playing time on the UF special teams is intense, Muschamp said.
“Every week,” he said. “We grade everything, not just on our offense and defense, but special teams. If a guy is not playing well, he is replaced during the game. It’s no different than any other phase of our football team.”
Special teams are a winning phase, just like the Gator offense and defense.

Gators got what, -19 yards rushing last year against Georgia? Their oline has given up 21 sacks, they just can’t passblock anybody. They can’t throw, last in the SEC, and basically, they’re 120th in total offense. They havn’t returned a punt or kick for a td. It’s a miracle they have won more than 3 games with an offense and special teams like that. Unless you turn the ball over a lot, Florida doesn’t have the weapons to score points.

Florida will crush Georgia. The bulldogs are consistently OVERRATED. They have had one of the weakest schedules in the SEC up to this point (only Mississippi State has a weaker one) and they got sent home with their tails tucked between their legs by the only ranked team they’ve encountered this season. Look for more of the same when they meet the gators. UGA has proved nothing.

On paper it shouldn’t be that hard to keep this a low-scoring affair. Just stuff the line and make ‘em beat you throwing the ball. But Florida wins with defense and being opportunistic off turnovers. We’ve got to protect the ball above all else, then win field position and sustain some drives.

“Georgia’s special teams are better than Florida’s”??????????????
Florida has the leading punter in the nation, their punt coverage in 6th in the nation, caused two turnovers to Fla in the last game, made all of their PATs whereas Ga has missed 4 PATs. Even Richt acknowledges Fla strength in special teams “They’ve been fantastic in that area,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “That’s certainly going to be a big challenge for us. We’ve had some successes here and there, but we’ve got to have a big day in the special team area or it’s going to hurt us. There’s no doubt about it.”

We can’t just go out and hire a special teams coach. Florida has a special teams coordinator — a position coach with primary responsibility for special teams as well. I do think we need one of our sideline coaches to be named the coordinator and to make that a greater point of emphasis.
I think it’s nuts we don’t have a single guy who can field punts instead of letting them roll for another 20 yards.

Florida has a special teams Coordinator which is the main reason they are so good this year. That emphasis on special teams has pushed them over the edge into a complete football team. Georgia on the other hand doesn’t think that the top scorer on a team, the field goal kicker , needs to be supervised or helped to fine tone his specialty. I would go back to Belin and offer him twice what he is making in the Pro’s if he would come back and coach the Linebackers and the special teams. Olivadotti needs to go. He is a good guy and a good coach but he is not irreplaceable as a coach and he is a poor recruiter but the main thing is he can not coach special teams.. Grantham usually close the deal with all Linebackers.
Richt needs to start admitting when he is wrong about things and stop being sooo stubborn . Richt need to put an emphasis on SPECIAL TEAMS.

Was talking with a buddy of mine and he pointed something out about the SC game that i didn’t think about:
We lost M. Bennett on thurs before for the game. So the Offense had practiced all week on plays with him as the #1 WR. So Sat players had to be moved around and that proved to be a big reason why Murray’s timing was off. He has two weeks to work with the WRs and goes out and has a 30-38, 429yd 4 TD performance. The ONLY game the offense has struggled in is the one where we lost our #1 WR on the LAST day of game prep.
Now with S. Williams firing up not only the D, but the O as well, I think UF is in for a huge Surprise.
Oh and to you pathetic gator fans that like to post 18-4 or 18 of 22, get a life, the record is 48-40-2. We STILL own the Gators by almost a decade of wins, so give the PARTIAL HISTORY a rest.

I think Georgia will do better than that Saturday just because of the rivalry and the situation. But I don’t think either Georgia or Florida has a serious advantage or disadvantage over the other. Florida fully understands the stakes involved with this game. The SEC East title. The Gators will come prepared and ready to play….Muschamp and staff will make sure of that. Then the crying in the beer begins in earnest. Look at the bright side Georgia fans — with a 9-3 record, you’re more likely to land a bowl game that you can actually win.

What Georgia and Florida have done has nothing whatsoever to do with what will take place this Saturday in JAX. Lots and lots of talent on both sides…period. The team that executes and makes the fewest errors will win…..hopefully the Gators.

I just love how marshall morgan loves to kick the ball into the goal post…..just another product of malfuction under our brilant coach mark richt…..a defense where our own players have to call out eachother….because our DC cant motivate the players this year himself…..a o-line that is starting a true freshman that should have been redshirted….but attrition and poor recruiting has left us with yet again another horrendus o-line….a qb who throws for a 1000 yards…but cant beat the poultry or any ranked team….thanks richt for all of the failures this year….marshal looks like a true freshmen in high school….thanks again richt…..only at uga where you can miss a hundred extra points and still have a starting job

@Gator Bait 18-4
I find it interesting that you say, “statistics are for losers”, but then you go to use stats in 2-3 of your blogs…..HMMMMMMMMMM!
Also,
If you want an interesting stat that I’m sure you won’t use next to your name….consider this:
In the last 19 games between UGa and Florida, the Gators have had the much needed “bye week” 15 times. It is very interesting that Florida’s record during those 19 games is 15-4. Let’s see how your boys perform without 2 weeks to prepare for UGa and without a lot of rest!!!!

Our problems on special teams is punt returns and that plays into the remarkable punter for the gators. We do need to tighten up! I will say that I think GA will win because we will balance the offense this week with a commitment to mix up plays!!! Time to “prepare for rain”. Let’s go dawgs!

Ky scored 20 points against UGA, they scored ZERO on the Gators. BTW, Florida got the ball three times in the 3rd qtr against USCe and scored all 3 times. UGA scored one time the entire game against USCe.

dawg fans, do you realize that the -19 yards rushing come from the 12 sacks that came at the hands of our one legged QB last year? I guarantee that Jarvis Jones won’t be pinning his ears back speed rushing to get to Jeff Driskell. Driskell will take off and show you a repeat of what he did to Vandy.

Fl. could have easily scored 72 points against S.C. They took their foot off the gas with 5 minutes
left. Event the subs scored a T.D. Clowney, who started out ferociously, was later neutralized by
Nixon and Gillislee in the second half. Then wore out, he had to sit. And this is the best Def. player
in the country.
This Gator team is boiling mad, with something to prove, and looking for revenge.
When the Coach threw his best player out of school, for smoking weed (Jenkins), all the other
players knew, that he meant business.
