ATHENS – Georgia’s Aaron Murray got a nice little pat on the back heading into the Bulldogs’ biggest game of the year.
The junior quarterback from Tampa was named the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week by the league office on Monday. The honor comes on the heels of Murray’s record-setting performance in Georgia’s 29-24 win over Kentucky Saturday night in Lexington. Against the Wildcats, Murray completed 30 passes on 38 attempts, which set a school record for completion percentage (78.95). Murray also recorded a career-high with 427 yards passing yards, which was is fourth-best in school history, and threw for four touchdowns.
Murray’s scoring tosses made him Georgia’s all-time leader in touchdown passes with 75. David Greene had 72 from 2001-04. The 75 TD passes is ninth most in SEC history.
Murray had a pair of 100-yard receivers as senior Tavarres King (188 yards) and sophomore Malcolm Mitchell (103 yards) each had nine catches. Murray is the SEC active leader in five different categories and is third in the NCAA FBS in career pass efficiency rating for active players with a 154.02 clip.
This marks Murray’s first player of the week selection. He was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week twice in 2010 after his performances versus Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Of course, all eyes will be on Murray this Saturday and he tries to secure the elusive “signature victory” many believe has eluded him against the No. 2-ranked Florida Gators in Jacksonville. Murray had a good game against the Gators in last year, throwing for 169 two touchdowns in Georgia’s 24-20 win. The No. 10-ranked Bulldogs play Florida Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in a game that will be nationally televised on CBS.

I noticed the Dogs of Georgia struggling to get a win in Lexington against almighty SEC East beast Kentucky. That is one lousy football team (in red and silver).
Meanwhile my Jackets coasted to an EASY victory and have bounced back to reestablish their ACC dominance.
Hey Doggies, the new sheriff is coming back to the cesspool up north on Nov. 24th. Prepare thyselves!

I noticed two desperate nerds walking into Commonwealth Stadium in full GT gear walking in with 2 UK fans. Hoping against hope that they could witness some team actually beat us since their own pathetic team can’t do it. One nerd sat right in front of me and was cheering his little heart out. Until we took over late and then it became the all too familiar exit from the stadium LOSING AGAIN.

Grantham needs to be promoted NOW to head coach! Before we loose him to the NFL or some head coaching job. We’re only paying him $1M/year! The job he has done with 2 & 3 star recruits is amazing, not to mention the classy way he curses college kids and his defense of Shawn Williams acting like a punk! The D didn’t stop one GOOD team last year and you kool aid drinkers ate up the stats against a weak schedule. You kool aid drinkers are killing this program.

Let’s Be Honest….I agree with you 100%!! I’m sick of the so called fans just bashing the Dawgs! Yes, they all have the right to express whatever opinion they have. Some I know comes from “so called Dawg fan”, but some does not. We are 6-1 and still have a chance to win the East. Hopefully, the defense plays the way they were expected to this year. But, if we can’t stop the run, the GT game scares me, because that is all they can do. Let’s get behind the Dawgs and stay positive for a change! I hate Florida like the rest of you! Go Dawgs!!

Transcript from this week’s UGA-UF Game-planning meeting with CMR, CMB and CTG:
CMR: Sorry I’m late. This whole singing-to-recruits thing is getting out of hand. I just finished singing “Call Me Maybe” to A. Kamara and “Forget You” to D. Henry. I’ve got 16 more requests today alone! Let me ask; do you guys see me as more of a Casey Kasem or a Cousin Brucey? Personally, I love the long-distance dedication….
CMB: Excuse me coach, can we talk about the WLOCP? What’s in the sack anyway?
CMR: Oh that…well, it’s my special “WLOCP Bag O Tricks”. It’s got stuff like end-zone choreography and Halloween-themed uniform gimmicks. I was thinking that this year we could go with the Invisible Man theme because the pollsters clearly don’t appreciate how good we are. What do you think?
CMB: I’ve got 2 names for you: Worley & Henderson!
CMR: Awesome! Who the heck are they?
CMB: 2 dynamic freshmen running backs who, many, many years ago, ran roughshod on then #1 UF, spoiling the Gators’ season.
CMR: Jackpot!! Are they available this weekend?
CMB: No, well, uh, I was drawing a parallel between them and Gurley/Marshall…
CMR: Gotta tell ya’ CMB, I don’t know what you’re talking about half the time, but I love That Thing You Do (CMR stands with air-microphone, begins singing, pointing at CMB) “You…Doing That Thing You Do….”
CTG: Excuse me! Can we talk defense now?
CMR: Oh, of course big fella, sorry bout that! I didn’t see you sitting there behind the Independence Bowl trophy. Fire away…
CTG: I’ve decided that this week, we’re going to just play our base defense, but with a wrinkle! Here’s the really big part…you ready??…I’m going to direct choking gestures at Jeff Driskel the entire game! He will become so un-nerved he will eventually wet himself!
CMR: Fantastic idea! I love Psy-ops, mind-games type stuff! I’ll add that to my “WLOCP Bag O Tricks”! (CMR grabs air-mic again, points at CTG, begins singing AC/DC’s Whole Lotta Rosie) “Let me tell you a story, ‘bout a DC I know, comes to coaching, he steals the show, he ain’t exactly pretty, ain’t exactly small. 35-7! You can’t say we’ve won ‘em all”……..
CTG: We done here??
CMR: Yes, sorry, got carried away. Gotta get to my weekly press briefing anyway. Instead of the usual boring Q&A, I’m going to sing, “Walking on Sunshine”! I’m thinking a little Katrina and the Waves will soothe those fourth-estate savages! See ya’ in Jax fellas!

There’s nothing wrong with having an OBJECTIVE opinion about a team I LOVE that differs from your rose colored glasses perception. My opinion, which is based on FACTS, is that Mark Richt’s message is no longer getting through to his players. Does that make me wrong…no, it just means that in my OPINION, Richt would be better served coaching somewhere else. He know longer has the ability to discipline his teams and motivate them to well in big games.
Fact – UGA is 2-14 against ranked opponents since 2008.

Dawg 73… he and many others of us, have the right to back the entire organization, just as you do to complain. What is complaining doing for you? Really nothing much. It may make you feel better, but at the end of the day, those guys in Red/Black need our support. How much back in ‘73 did people complain about Coach Dooley? A ton, they were always calling him “Dumb Dooley” and other things. Now, he is looked on as the Greatest Coach in UGA history. I would agree with that too. But, he didn’t win that National Title until, you know who came to UGA. I agree that we didn’t look very good last Sat. night and we could get beat this weekend. But, how about getting on “the bus” with what we have or you have every right to get “off the bus” and we will go on without you and the others who do nothing but complain! It gets old and turn the page! We did win an SEC game and it was on the road. Yes, we should have won and won more easily, but a win is a win and let’s move on to the next game! Defense plays like they did against Vandy and UGA stands a chance. Yes, Vandy is no UF. However, that has been the only game that the intensity level has been anywhere close to having a pulse.
Grantham for HC???? Really, did you not see how he prepared this defense for UK. Over 200 yards rushing?? As far as I’m concerned Grantham can go back to the NFL. That much takent should be no where close to being the avergae defense that they have played like this year.

Murray is the best QB in the nation right now.
Murray had 3 signature wins in 2011:
Beat Florida, beat ranked Auburn, beat ranked GaTech.
He’ll add his 4th signature victory Sat.
Murray is peaking at the right time.
Look for Florida’s db’s to get beat on deep balls in 1-on-1 coverage.
Rumor is UGA will run some 2 WR stack formations to get off the ball fast.

Murray will do a lot of things to shake up Florida:
1- Alter the snap count
Florida is the least displined team in the country
2- Run the ball effectively at least 5 times in the first quarter to frustrate Florida’s passrush
3- Audible to defense he sees
4- hurry up to tire out
5- double moves to beat aggresive corners
6- back shoulder passes when corners have great position
7- protect the ball like last year
Murray is on fire.
Look for his 4th signature win.

Thanks for posting but do you have ANY idea what you are dealing with on here, such as “Big Ed”.
“murray pads his stats against teams he should dominate”
Apparently in Big Eggheads opinion no other QB in the nation plays teams they should dominate so just lump Big E in with the rest of the Single Digit IQs.
I believe Kentucky led USC most of their game!!!!!!!!!

There’s nothing wrong with padding your stats against the cupcakes. Murray’s problem is that he doesn’t show up in big games. Is that so hard for a genius like yourself to comprehend?
What is Aaron Murray’s signature win in his long and illustrious career at UGA?

Holy crap Brainiac….If you want to give input to the article, than by all means, do it.
But if you are just going to sit there and bash every single poster that doesn’t view everything out of the same rose colored glasses as you do, then do it somewhere else.
You have done nothing in almost every UGA blog but critique every poster that is being negative. It is just plain annoying…and very pathetic.
Stop judging other people and allow them to have their own views.
You are like that whiney 11 year old that tells on all of his classmates because they are not doing what they are supposed it.

If you are a real dawg fan, you too should be shooting down the fools that are hurting UGA recruiting and disparaging and discouraging the players. You know that Kirby Smart took some UGA commits in 2011 by telling them to just read what the UGA posters are saying about their own coach and team. I don’t care what anybody posts so long as it isn’t a bunch of dumba$$es that are hurting UGA because they don’t understand what football is really about and in your case you are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem.

I will tell you about Murray
.
He almost singlehandedly carried UGA to a win Saturday looking much better than did USCe QB versus Kentucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is setting UGA, SEC and national records most every game in spite of the fact that UGAs No. 1 WR is out for the year
He was named SEC Offensive player of the Week
He passed for over 400 yds.and 4 tds and 2 sure tds were dropped
He has already earned his degree at UGA
He has another year of eligibility
He will play on Sundays
I can continue this as long as you like but there are those who feel I’m spending too much time on here…………………………………………which actually means I will probably be on here even more.
Thanks for asking about the 2012 All SEC QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People who are bashing CMR and others with UGA, look at this information. It’s too long to put on here, go to the site. And no, I’m not the person who found all of this information. If you can argue with these numbers, then you won’t ever be pleased.

Just because some of the fans are asking hard questions doesn’t mean they are not as good of a Georgia fan as those who want to completely ignore that a defense who was ranked 5TH last year and who returned nearly all of last years starters, are giving up 24 points a game. We know we have the personnel so it must be the schemes. Grantham needs to make some radical changes to stop our opponents running all over us. We know right now that Driskel is going to run the ball 20 times. The complaint is Grantham is not making any changes and the other teams are looking at what worked against Georgia earlier in the season and are taking the attitude why change anything until Georgia proves they can stop the run.
Huh?

Yeah 6-1 isn’t bad….until you dig a little deeper. UGA has racked up wins (and sometimes ugly ones) against bad teams. The only ranked team that they played, they lost. It’s just like last year, when UGA won 10 games against lousy teams, but lost the 4 they played against good teams.
Relying on others to lose is not what a championship team is made of. How about winning instead of having to back in to the SEC CG? And as far as Murray goes, I agree with Over Rated…he plays well against bad teams, but disappears against good ones.

To all the fans who want to call out other fans for being CONCERNED about the state of the program:
You all are the ones that need to get a life. Granted we do control our own destiny and are sitting at 6-1, you get no arguement there, but if you can HONESTLY sit back and feel good going into the game this week then you are DROWNING in the Kool-Aid. I’m a life long fan, born and raised in Athens, attended Cedar Shoals High, and have lived in Jacksonville for the past 16 years. And let me tell you I AM CONCERNED about the state of this program.
When you take a look at our schedule, CMR and company had to get the Dawgs preprared for TWO FREAKIN GAMES!! SC and UF. Period. As evidenced on Sat, every other opponent on the schedule, we should be able to “out athlete”. The manner in which the Dawgs came out against SC was horrible!!! They had a defeated disposition before stepping on the field, and got hit square in the mouth and had little fight. Same thing happened to SC on Sat. Say what you want about Muschamp and all his angry theatrics, but he has those boys playing so far above their heads it’s ridiculous. When you honsestly take a look at the talent level (gator fans back me up on this), there is no reason other than coaching for UF to be undefeated. U. Meyer left the cupboard bare, and CWM had to dismiss a couple of very good players because they weren’t buying in. Talent wise top to bottom in the SEC, UF is probabaly 5th behind, Bama, LSU, SC and UGA, but look at how their team FOUGHT in the LSU and SC games. They KNEW they had to have turnovers. They were hitting hard, striping the ball, and literally trying to break SC’s will to fight, and were successful. If the Dawgs do not come into that game prepared to leave EVERYTHING on the field and for 4 qtrs not worry about saving themselves and playing not to get hurt for the draft ( yeah I said it, more on that in a moment) then we are going to get our arses handed to us. Look my 10 year old son was watching the game with me, and I always try to stay positive when watching with my sons, because I don’t want them to pick up bad habits and at that age I think there is a certain amount of blind loyalty they should have to develop love of their team, but he even cited after watching the SC/FL game earlier, “Dad if we play like this against FL this week, we’re gonna get EMBARRASSED!” I asked him what did he think the problem was, he replied, “Well the offense is doing their part, but it looks like the defense players are playing like they are scared to get hurt. They don’t hit anybody. It’s like they just try to trip them as they run by or tackle at the ankles.” This is the observation of a TEN YEAR OLD folks.
I love the Dawgs and living in Jax, FL trust me no one on this site wants a win worse than me, but I’m not going to go around and thump my chest, because we simply don’t pass the eye test.
Here’s the record of our opponents to date read it and still tell me I’m crazy for being concerned about the state of our program. I’m sorrywe’ve built a resume the past two years on fool’s gold wins take a look:
Result – team – (their record)
W – Buffalo (1-6)
W-Missouri (3-4)
W- Florida Atl (1-6)
W- Vandy (3-4)
W- Tenn (3-4)
L- SC (6-2)
W – Kentucky (1-7)
? – Florida (7-0)
?- Ole Miss (4-3)
?- Auburn (1-6)
? Ga So (6-1) * Subdivision
? Ga Tech (3-4)
So take out UF and SC – two toughest games on the schedule, and Ga So – subdivision team, the combines record to date of the rest of the FOOL’S GOLD SCHEDULE IS: 20-44!!!
Again TWO FREAKING GAMES TO PREPARE FOR and we come out flat in the first, and NOW you have to question how good was SC really.
They blew us out, and got beat by LSU in a strong contest, and blown out by UF.
Here’s the rest of their schedule – Vandy, East Carolina, UAB, Missouri and Kentucky.
It’s NOT about bashing the team, folks this is REALITY. Come on down to Jax and cheer the Dawgs on just as I will, but seriously, if CMR and Co., come down here and lay another egg like SC then there HAS TO BE A CHANGE.
If you gave ANY major D-1 coach a 3yr starter at QB, all of your skill position players on both sides of the ball minus 1 (B.Boykin), 20 of 22 on your 2 deep defensive chart, AND the schedule we have they would be singing all the way to the SEC Championship game and probably on to the national championship.
Look at how Bama and Oregon dispatch opponents with a similar schedule to us. To come out FLAT in one of TWO games you had to have and not even be competitive all falls on coaching. Injuries and suspensions are part of the game, but the good teams load the next guy up and don’t miss a beat.
If you feel pointing out FACTS about the state of the program and this season makes me not a true fan then I don’t know what else to tell you, but when you love something and you’re seeing it die a slow painful death, pretending it ain’t happening is the answer either.
Now if Richt pulls off the upset, I’ll be the first one on here congratualting him, admitting I WAS WRONG and APOLOGIZING. Not holding my breath I’ll have to do either.

I remember 1985 when we went into Jax with no hope, with a team that had at least two losses already. Florida was ranked #1 and on a roll. Freshman running backs Tim Worley and Keith Henderson dominated the game in a 24-3 upset victory and RUINED Florida’s season. Our chances were slim that day, much more dire than they will be this Saturday.

I have been a UGA fan since Ed Thileneus (sp?) called the games on radio, and I am a 44 year season ticket holder (and a UGA grad). I have also seen a lot of great wins and heart-wrentching defeats. The team that CMR has been putting on the field the past five years is not representative of true Georgia football. Seems like he is more concerned with won/loss statistics than substantial wins and playing with heart. Is it complacency? Probably. Is it time for a change…definitely. I hate to lose, but I despise mediocrity even more. Just my opinion.

BobDog, that was under a much tougher, more disciplined coach who had a knack of beating Florida. This regime has a much more difficult task of that due to operating as an NFL minor league farm team. Wish it was more about the “G” but it is not. I am much more worried about the fallout should we get blasted which is what most skilled football observers are predicting. South Carolina is facing the same obstacle this weekend facing a very hungry Tennessee (who will throw all over them). Hangovers from humiliating losses are the biggest challenges for teams that have fallen hard after high expectations.

An offense build on the long pass will get you tons of yards and touchdowns against inferior teams. But it’s the ability to sustain drives with mix of running and passing that wins big games. It’s an approach that is more smash mouth than finesse. Time of possession is important in that it aids the defense … keeps them off the field.. IIt’s a team approach to winning. So Murray’s exploits against poor teams is just about meaningless. Just check the record.

Murray had a great game and looked very sharp. While Murray looked great what concerns me is lack of a physical running game. Why can’t we match up physically with other teams, even the University of Kentucky? Why is finesse the only thing we do well? That doesn’t cut it, and won’t cut it against the Big Boys….
