NOTABLE QUOTES FROM SATURDAY’S GAME
COACH MARK RICHT
On the onside kick . . .
“It was a a great job by (Kentucky kicker Joe Mansour). If that kick would have rolled just a tad bit faster he probably would have gotten it, but it was just kind of creeping along. Their kicker of course had to wait for it to go 10 yards and Connor (Norman) was heads-up to go around there and snatch it and be strong enough to convince the officials that it was his. It was a huge play. There were a lot of huge plays in the game, a game that close, but Connor did a great job.”
On getting the win . . .
“It’s great to be able to go on the road in the SEC and get the win. I think Kentucky did a fantastic job tonight. My hat’s off to coach (Joker) Phillips and his team. I’m also pleased with our team to do what they had to do to win the ballgame. A lot of big plays had to be made. We had to play good down the stretch in order to win it. Again, very thankful and pleased with the victory.”
KENTUCKY COACH JOKER PHILLIPS:
On the onside kick . . .
“We didn’t get the right speed on the ball, first thing. (Mansour) was just waiting for the ball to cross 10 yards — waiting, waiting, waiting. He thought the ball was across the 10-yard line … Their guy got the ball before we could react to it.”
On the close game . . .
“I don’t live in ‘almost.’ At the end of the year, you don’t say, ‘We almost win.’ The records will say wins and losses. We come out here to try to win. We don’t come out here to try to almost win.”
GEORGIA WR TAVARRES KING
On winning . . .
“It was big. It was huge. Any time you go on the road in the SEC, you know it’s going to be tough no matter who you’re playing. So it’s huge. It’s a big win for us.”
On going against a 1-6 team . . .
“It’s the SEC. Anybody can slip up on anybody at anytime and that’s why we’re the greatest conference in the nation. We play great football. That’s a good team.. They’ve just had some tough breaks. They gave us their best shot and we survived it.”
On game being so close . . .
“It’s football. It’s a crazy game.”
On Aaron Murray’s 427-yard passing night . . .
“That’s sick; that’s sick. He deserves it, the way that guy works and goes about his business.”
GEORGIA OLB JORDAN JENKINS
“I think we are just glad to have this game over with. It seems like God wanted us to win.”
GEORGIA OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MIKE BOBO
“They put some extra guys in the box, but we still stayed committed to the running game and that made them have to honor the run, which opened up some things.”
GEORGIA DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR TODD GRANTHAM
On Kentucky’s third-and-long draws . . .
“You’ve got to be able to make a play. You should be able to a stop a run before it goes 10 yards in any coverage.”

Also
I don’t know who or how they are doing it
but Someone on the offensive line is tipping off the defense
when we run to the lines right side
almost every defense is seeing someone and flooding that area and the we run right to them
and the result is we get stuffed

We had 2 weeks to prepare for one of the worst teams in america…..and they came just an offsides kick away from beating us!! wow!! i’m starting to wonder if our talent is seriously overated….our DL is slow..fat and weak!!…they don’t make plays at all. our LB’s are kind of strong..but even they look slow and not very quik at all….our secondary is fast and strong…..but are always out of position….so that adds up to one big weak defense……wait a minute now devin bowman how did he get a scholarship….he is terrible….he got burned by one of the worst wr’s in the sec……please mcgarity

Have you idiots finally realized what I’ve been trying to tell you all off season?
TODD GRANTHAM IS NOT A GOOD COORDINATOR!!!
And you idiots gave him a raise and blamed the 37 pts AVG to ranked teams on the offense.
This is why you cannot win a title.
You are football idiots and the rest of the country laughs at you.

Honestly, if we line up talent for talent against the Gators next week, we win the game by 3 TDs. The problem is Mark Richt and the rest of this high school coaching staff. I don’t care if we lose by 5 TDs or lose in a 7 OT game. If we don’t leave Jacksonville with a win, Mark Richt and the rest of the coaching staff must be fired.

I just don’t get it. Who are you people? Georgia is not a premiere Football program and never has been. We are traditionally a good team who every now and then has a great year. Firing CMR is not the answer. Look at UT now… I bet they’d love to have Phillp Fulmer back, but they wanted to run him out. Notre Dame is just now recovering from Running Lou Holtz out of town. If Mark Richt was fired we would be lost in the woods. I would never support going back to how God-Awful we were in the 90’s under Ray and Jim. I really am discouraged by our fans more than anything. It is embarrassing to have a one loss team in the best conference in the nation and people want to fire the coaches. Ashamed of the lack of class in our fanbase!

To VA-Dawg…who have we beaten this year that is really any good? We have not beaten a single Top 25 ranked team and are 2-14 against ranked teams since 2008. Richt was good initially and brought our program up, but it has languished and failed year after year for many years now.
So we pay Richt and staff millions to be mediocre? We settle for mediocrisy? Are you satisfied with being pretty good against average and bad teams and simply awful against ranked teams?
Look at what Muschamp has done in his 2nd year at Florida? Look at what Richt is doing in his 12th year at UGA? Not a thing. The UGA football program – with all its talent – is going nowhere. UGA sends more players to the NFL than almost any other program. I respect Richt as a Christian man but no longer as a head coach.
Yes, I am frustrated at our lack of focus, discipline, and execution when it comes to game day. I don’t see the passion in our staff or really most of the players.
So, NO, I am a DAWG fan that has every right to be dissatisfied with a 6-1 record against mostly subpar opposition. Obviously, some fans and the coaching staff is just fine with mediocre.

I love the Dawgs but am really disappointed with their play. I really like Mark Richt. But I think one problem with his coaching is he acts like its the players’ team and lets them decide how they are going to play. It’s time for Mark Richt to realize he is the head coach and not each of the players’ away-from-home dad. His job and the rest of the coaching staff is to make sure they are ready to play each Saturday. And he needs to put some fire in his and his players bellies. They can beat FL but they really have to get their heads and hearts in the game from the first play on.

The “look at Tennessee” argument is really getting old. Lane Kiffin was a great hire, whipped our butts that’s for sure, until he left them high and dry and the program in shambles. Since then, Dooley stumbled with some bad apples but he has the program on the right track. The state of Georgia is a treasure trove of quality recruits, so much that Tennessee has taken some of the best for years. UGA has 3 players from Tenn on its roster, all from Memphis. UT has 16 guys from Georgia.
There is no reason to believe that a qualified hire (i.e. good coach, good recruiter, good evaluator) shouldn’t be able to get UGA to national championship contender within 2-3 years a la Muschamp.

Don’t know what in the world is going on with the defense but something is terribly wrong. Same for the offense. Too much talent on this team to perform the way they are. Seems like they were playing better with the star players suspended. Can’t help but think that it’s back to the same old unmotivated, business as usual, approach to every game. I surely hope they don’t get killed in Jacksonville next week but it’s looking like they will because Muschamp is getting those guys fired and ready to play unlike CMR. After the SC game and then watching them perform the way they did against a terrible Kentucky team after a week off, Richt better not rest on his laurels. Another beat down and McGarrity will probably start thinking about who will take over the program next (if he hasn’t already). UGA has all the resources needed to compete at the highest level and Richt hasn’t beaten a top ten team in a long time. Beat UF or get on with your mission work full time bud!

obviously it is great to be able to get any win with Ricth even against lowly Kentucky. It is highly unlikely though to ever win another SEC or BCS championships under him again. If we do get lucky and ever win another how many years will it be 2005 was the last one.

bigdog, that’s my point. Richt beat some very good teams in his first 5-6 years but has lost his fire. Loyalty to sub par assistants and his relinquishing the offensive play calling duties to Bozo are costing us games and opportunities. The narrow victory at lowly Kentucky will probably drop us a spot or two in the new polls later today and the meltdown against SC (which should never happen) a couple of weeks ago are indicators that it’s time for a changing of the guard in Athens. Richt is a good man and did a great job for a while but McGarrity needs to make a statement that mediocrity cannot and will not be tolerated at UGA with the vast resources available to the program.

Your kind makes me sick. You’re so afraid to make a change you’re willing to put of with this crap for years. There are many, many examples of new coaches lighting a fire and winning the NC in their second years. We just need to hire a hard-nosed, sob, that’s more interested in winning than jumping off the diving board at Ramsey, glossing over a terrible performance against the division’s worst team, or being best buds with a bunch of immature, spoiled thugs.

I would absolutely love to see UGA beat UF and go on to the SEC CG but the reality is they won’t. And it’s solely because of the coaching style that CMR is exercising. Even if they do find a way to win in JAX, they won’t beat Alabama. At any rate, this should not be acceptable at the University of Georgia. I read an article a couple of years ago (forget where) that showed the top 10 most profitable football programs in the country and UGA was in the top 3. They have every resource in the world to compete at the highest level on a regular basis and they simply are not getting it done. The article also read that there are four programs in the country where the coaching staff could simply recruit in their own state and never leave to win championships and UGA is one of the 4. I’m not saying that recruiting has been a problem because it definitely hasn’t, but that the utilization of that talent certainly has. I’m tired of people taking up for a coach that has lost his edge and obviously will never win another SEC championship, never mind a NC. Those that stay on board with CMR as head coach are satisfied with what we’ve been enduring for the past 5-6 years. I’m not at all satisfied with beating up on Georgia Southern and Buffalo and losing to SC three years in a row, UF 8 or 9 out of 12, Boise State in our own back yard in front of a national audience, the blackout fiasco with GameDay set up in Athens, etc….There’s an obviously glaring trend here and anyone that doesn’t recognize it is probably buying ocean front real estate in Arizona. I’m not buying it!

To wish that Saban leave Alabama for UGA to have a chance to win the SEC is sad. If I were the UGA AD and UGA loses to Florida next week, I would re-assess the coaching staff the end of the year and fire some coaches. Get Kirby Smart in here. I’m fine with having one down year if we get the coach we need to start beating top 10 teams his second year.

One word that describes what may be ailing the defense and the Bulldawg nation through this 2012 football season:
impulsive
adj
1 characterized by actions based on sudden desires, whims, or inclinations rather than careful thought.
This season started out with suspensions of five players four of which were on the defensive side of the ball. These five players failed to understand the meaning of the word impulsive. (temptation)
Impulsiveness is all right in a child but disastrous in a man. An impulsive adult is always a spoiled person. (believing himself as righteous) Impulsiveness needs to be trained into intuition through discipline. (three of these players received a four game suspension but for some reason have not grasped the full meaning of the word impulsive) Studying the word humility and understanding it, would also help in understanding the meaning of impulsive.
I am not just singling out the players who were suspended for games but covers several players on the defense and special teams.
Todd Grantham is a very good defensive coach and has daily repeatedly trained his defensive players over and over, the correct position to be in, to stop the play but players keep biting on their first impulse instead of believing the discipline in which they are daily trained!
Some fans on this blog, you too could use a dose of the meaning of the word impulsiveness, for many of you are showing the behavior signs of those who suffer from impulsiveness.
I would hope that coach Richt will allow Grantham the nasty disposition that is needed to get his players in line… in other words don’t pour water on Grantham’s fire for that is what exactly is needed to play great defense!
