LEXINGTON, Ky. – Jordan Jenkins will start at “Will” outside linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs tonight against the Kentucky Wildcats.

All-American junior outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, who normally starts at that position, traveled with the team here but was not dressed out as the Bulldogs prepared for kickoff. He has not practiced since the South Carolina game on Oct. 6 due to an ankle injury. He also has been playing with a groin injury and a sore left knee.

Earlier Saturday, Ronald Jenkins, Jenkins’ father had posted on Facebook that her son was going to start.

“Great news Jordan will start his second game of the season tonight. 7pm EST on Fox Sports South. If you don’t get that channel you can watch it on ESPN3.com live on your Computer. I put all this info on FB because one I’m proud and two I have friends and family everywhere that request this info and much easier than email. Take care GO DAWGS!”

The Bulldogs have been extremely please with Jenkins, a 6-foot-3, 257-pound true freshman out of Harris County. The former 5-star recruit already started one game in Jones’ stead — Sept. 15 against Florida Atlantic — and has 15 tackles and 3 sacks on the season.

“I think he’s going to be an All-American in the next two or three years,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham told reporters after the FAU game. “He can give us much needed depth as we move forward through the season. That’s why we recruited him.”

I think that Jarvis is saving himself for the draft.

Not at all unusual for a returning unit like our defense to come back and fall on its face like we have this year….

That’s especially true in Athens where discipline, work ethic and actually obeying the law are in short supply…..

It’s ridiculous. Jones probably is hurt trying to make up for the crap he’s surrounded by.

Just so he healthy for Gaytors. It don’t matter who we play against scrubs like Kens Tuck. They were so bad game was called with Arky. But Jenkins is a stud from new recruits. He will have big day in Lex. Then we get a chance to revenge on Gaytors and Judas Muschump for traitors to Dawgs. But we could need Gaytors or Dooley Boy cook the goose of SCar into choking chickens as always.

Go Dawgs! Choke like you know you do SCar! Dawgs own East!

We just reload JJ with JJ II and get to pounding Kens Tuck like they are a basketball school or something.

Jones needs to rest for Florida.

Frank Lane, are you actually suggesting his draft stock would be higher by not playing? Huh?

Looking forward to see new pups grow into vicious DAWGS. He is one that will determine the future of our defense. I hope we can get Adams, Johnson, Foster, and keep Mathews and the other great recruits we have and you’ll be talking about the DAWGS in the way they talk about BAMA right now. The DAWGS are on their way back to title contention.GATA

Where was this kid rated as an overall prospect last year? It’s great that we don’t have to expect a drop off at this position next year.

….oh yeah, @Frank Lane, that was just a dumb comment you made. JJ’s draft stock is solidified. He is only trying to get healthy so he can help the Dawgs do what he stayed another year for them to do. Even with the one loss, the goal is still a possibility.

Some considered him the top recruit in the state last year (I think, although I am not obsessed with the ratings). We stole him from Saban too which is icing on the cake.

Frankie:

I think all of the Dawg’s draft eligible defenders MUST BE saving themselves for the draft. Outside of John Jenkins (before the SC game) none of them have played worth a rip! Heck, they keep playing like they’ve been playing, none of them will be drafted (except J.Jones and Jenkins).

But then again, the issue might be COACHING (OR MORE LIKE LACK OF GOOD COACHING). NO EXCUSE FOR THE DEFENSE LOOKING THAT WEAK AGAINST THE COCKS (AND AGAINST THE VOLS FOR THAT MATTER).

There’s got to be more to the Jones story than Richt is letting on. It’s most likely one of the ubiquitous “rules violations,” which is Richt-Speak for using illegal drugs. It’s common knowledge that Richt is a chronic liar, so take anything he says with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Don’t know about all the drug stuff! Now if someone said Jarvis was being benched for his underwhelming play against the Cocks I might believe them.

Doubting Dawg, Jarvis injured his ankle in the SC game. He hasn’t been able to seriously practice since then. He’s making progress, but the coaches don’t want to jeopardize his chances for playing against Florida. Jordan Jenkins will do a great job filling in for him.

Jarvis Jones has been hurting for a while now. During Tennessee’s Cordarrelle Patterson long TD run you could see how he was favoring the groin injury. Yup, let him rest for the Gators. We GONNA need him.

Jenkins will be a star. By the way, anybody watching mettenberger at LSU against A&M? You can see why Aaron Murray was the better QB; mettenberger has a better offensive line but fewer skills.

@FBGuy – I was thinking the same thing regarding Mettenberger. I’m wondering where are all the idiots calling for Richt to start Mettenberger over Murray. Thinking we only offered him a scholly because of his mommie.

So how did Mettenberger beat SC?? An offense by comparison with the Dawgs with slower RBs, about the same quality OL, and a FAR worse QB?? And LSU’s offense was actually fairly productive that day! Guess you can win big games with that bad of an offense if you have good coaching! COME ON CMR, CTG, AND CMB! COACH THEM UP!

As long as Bobo is our OC, we will lose the big games. History proves my point. CMR has to reassign Bobo to some sort of recruiting position and find a true OC or else CMR can go with him. I’m an alumni and long time season ticket holder and I’m tired of our boys being under coached. They deserve better.
