UPDATED: Georgia struggles vs. Kentucky, but win sets up monumental matchup with Florida

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Florida did its part by taking down South Carolina on Saturday. Georgia followed suit by beating Kentucky, though it didn’t go down like anyone predicted.

Nearly a four-touchdown favorite, the No. 11-ranked Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) found themselves in a street fight with the 1-7 Wildcats. Georgia finally eked out a 29-24 victory, but there was hardly a wild celebration in postgame locker room. Even the tone of the ever-optimistic Mark Richt seemed indifferent and weary.

“You know what, I’m happy with the victory,” Richt said somewhat unconvincingly. “We’re what, 6-1? That’s not bad.”

It’s good enough to set up at SEC Eastern Division showdown next Saturday in Jacksonville. After Saturday’s disparate results — the No. 2-ranked Gators (7-0, 6-0 SEC) thumped No. 7 South Carolina 44-11 in Gainesville — not many will give Georgia a chance in their annual rivalry game next to the St. Johns River. Still, a win over what will be a favored Florida team will put the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat to repeat as SEC champions.

“That’s why you play on Saturdays,” Richt said.

Kentucky was certainly saying that Saturday. Georgia needed a record-setting night from quarterback Aaron Murray, a roughing-the-kicker penalty and an a hotly-contested onsides kick recovery to settle Saturday’s score. The victory wasn’t finalized until the Bulldogs stopped Kentucky’s final pass for a 13-yard gain at the Wildcats’ 30-yard line as time expired.

Aaron Murray’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Lynch – it was his fourth on a record-setting night — made it 29-17 with 7:51 to play, the first time the Bulldogs had been ahead by more than a touchdown all night. Ultimately, that play gave Georgia the cushion it needed to get back to Athens with the victory.

Murray finished with a career-best 427 yards on 30-of-38 passing and now holds the school record for career touchdown passes with 75. David Greene (2001-04) had the previous record with 72.

“I’m not a record guy,” said Murray, who also set the school mark for completion percentage with 30 or more receptions (78.95). “I just want victories. I want championships. That put us another step closer toward achieving those goals. We just have to go out there and keep competing and winning games.”

Said Richt: “A lot of things have to go well to throw the ball like that. You’ve got to be able to protect, to run good routes, to put the ball on the money and catch it. And you have to have a good idea what you’re doing. You have to have some scheme involved in there. I thought everything came together well.”

Murray completed the majority of his passes to wideouts Tavarres King and Malcolm Mitchell, who finished with nine receptions apiece. King had 188 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a 66-yarder. Mitchell had 103 yards. Marlon Brown dropped what would have been a sure-fire touchdown from 52 yards out in the second quarter.

Despite their struggles running the ball — they managed only 77 yards on 32 attempts — the Bulldogs’ claim their ability to throw the ball gives the offense confidence heading into Saturday’s game against the defensive-minded Gators.

“I think so,” King said. “I think those big guys, our O-L, will take pride in protecting No. 11 and let him get it down field to his boys.”

Florida’s offense might be licking its chops after getting a close look at Georgia’s defense, which continued to give up yardage in huge chunks to the previous hapless Cats. Kentucky, which came into the game 13th in the 14-team SEC in total offense, gained 329 yards, 198 of it in the first half . The Wildcats converted 4-of-7 third downs in the first half, all on runs, and finished 6-of-14.

“hey ran the ball on third-and-10 or so a lot and we let them run for first downs,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “We need to stop that in the zone that we have if we play physical. Obviously we’re going to address that. I didn’t think we played the third-down runs well and we need to clean that up.”

The game was still in the balance when Georgia’s Connor Norman recovered on onsides kick attempt by Kentucky with 3:59 to play to thwart the final upset attempt. It was a bang-bang p[lay as Kentucky’s kicker Joe Mansour hesitated to pounce on the ball as it slowly rolled 10 yards. Norman dove in under Mansour, a LaGrange native, just as he went down.

“Connor was heads up to go in there and snatch it and convince the refs it was his,” Richt said.

The Bulldogs were able to knock out three first downs after that and ended its possession at the Kentucky 16 when tight end dropped what would have been a first-down catch at the Wildcats 1.

Kentucky had time only to get off one desperation pass, which it completed to no avail at its own 30. The plan was for some sort of hook-and-lateral, but Georgia’s Shawn Williams was on Kentucky’s La’Rod King too fast and wrapped him up before King could get rid of it.

“Well, I don’t live in ‘almost,’” said Kentucky coach Joke Phillips, who drops to 12-21 as the Wildcats’ coach. “At the end of the year, we don’t say we almost win. The records say wins and losses. This was a loss.”

I hate having as much passion as I do about this team, when they (and the coaching staff) are clearly apathetic and unconcerned with how they play…passionless… Their effort this year is an embarrassment to the university.

There was no emotion on defense… Malcom Mitchell jumps around like a clown too much… Theus needed to be redshirted because that kid gets abused almost every play… How can we get rid of Grantham? McGarity should be fired if he won’t make changes.

Mark Richts face going into the locker room at halftime says it all! Do you think Saban or Spurrier or Muschamp would be grinning ear to ear after eaking out a field goal to go up on your opponent you should be destroying?! Actually Muschamp was mad as hell at his team…AND THEY WERE DOMINATING!!! Mark Richt doesnt have what it takes…plain and simple! I will be expecting a total beat down next weekend……and perhaps a bowl loss….I am sad for my Bulldogs!

Tonite, Georgia won on pure talent. Which is how they have won the games they have won the last several years. When a gameplan needs coaching, effort and toughness-we lose everytime. The only way Georgia wins next weekend is if Florida turns the ball over. We have so much talent and experience this year-and very few injuries-not like 2008-when we did have more than our share. This season has really exposed glaring weaknesses in our coaching staff unlike any other.

Worst 6-1 team in America, Over ranked to say the least. Say what you want to say PATHETIC.
Who in the world prepares these guys?
Its not Bobo, God i wish it was because its expected, its Grantham causing these issues. We cant stop anybody and for some freaky reason its always that the QB , RB or someone has a career game.
This is embarrasing, unacceptable and not tolerated. Another UGLY WIN. Again and again, time after time they stink.
If they have problems from Kentucky, just imagine Auburn or Ga. Tech little long Florida has a good chance beating us.
They could easily be 4-3 but got lucky. This is a JOKE people. Quit making excuses after every game and quit saying that winning is all that matters.
There are some serious issues and its the middle of the season.
Wow i just cant believe this is even a Bulldog Team.

LOL at the Congratulations Dawgs and Hairy Dawgs!!! You are the ABSOLUTE WORST UGA fans in history!!! You are the reason UGA is stuck in mediocrity!!! Mark Richt is 1-12 vs ranked teams since 2009!!! Aaron Murray is 0-10 in big games as a UGA QB… He FAILS everytime, and ‘fans” like yourselves give him a pass, as teams like Alabama and Florida DOMINATE weaker teams on a regular basis, and even good teams like South Carolina today. Mark Richt has not won a meaningful game since 2005 when we beat LSU… thats 6 years of LOSING EVERY BIG GAME, Alabama in 2008, Boise State last year, South Carolina last year, LSU last year, Michigan State last year, South Carolina this year, etc etc etc…then we have to BARELY beat the weak teams in the SEC… Vandy last year, Kentucky last year, Tenessee this year, Kentucky this year….ALL while having top 5 talent. This is because BOBO, GRANTHAM, and ESPECIALLY RICHT are the WORST COACHING STAFF IN THE SEC, and maybe they are 70th or 80th best in the country!!! Real UGA fans know this and are not delusional….

FIRE RICHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRE RICHT NOW!

why is everyone so upset and in need of venting when you already know what to expect from a team playing under Mark Richt? It does not matter whether they win or lose. That is the attitude of the coach and therefore the team. Get over it. He isn’t going anywhere as long as Georgia continues to sell out and win 8-10 games a year. If you want a championship, then follow all of the other teams.

4 SEC teams now have superior coaching to UGA (maybe more). That is not going to change anytime soon. We had a chance to get UGA alum Muschamp after our 6-7 season, but didn’t do it. As an alumni and it hurts so bad to see this program fall like it has over the past few years… It is a program of cowards, which starts at the stop with Greg McGarity not having the strength to make a decision that should have been made 2 years ago. Instead, we have the most over paid coaches in history. The entire staff needs to be dismissed and we need fresh blood no matter the cost. Aaron Murray needs to go… I don’t care if he breaks ever record in UGA history; he will never be someone the fan base cares about. He is not a winner or someone that can lead any team to the promise land. I am over it and the University will not get one more dollar from me until they make a change at the top of the program. I am going to encourage all of my fellow alumni to do the same…We cannot vote Richt out, but we can vote with our dollars and I implore you all not to use any of your dollars to support a program that will not give us what we ask for and deserve: HOPE! As long as Mark Richt and his band of dwarfs are here we will have no HOPE. I cannot keep the faith expecting good things to come down the road; I have been fooled too much over the past few years. UGA has become a C-USA program. We don’t even look good playing against teams less than us (Kentucky or Buffalo or FAU), and when it comes to teams like Bama, LSU, South Carolina we see how mediocre we truly are now days…It is an embarrassment to this state, much the same as Tech is to the state… at least they don’t have talent. I know some will say that we will still we 10 games this year (and we may well do that), but we will lose to USC & UF in the only two games versus real teams all year… Most likely we will lose our bowl game too and I am afraid that people will feel like that is good enough to keep the coaches… Well, I am here to say it is not. I do not care that Mark Richt is a good Christian man. So am I, and if I don’t do my job well I would still get fired. Being a good man doesn’t make you a good coach…Just look at all the arrest and suspensions! Being a Christian means that you have salvation; it doesn’t mean that you become good at all you do, nor does it qualify you to do things that you really cannot do well. The results should speak for themselves and as far as I am concerned they do not meet where we should be as a program.

What I want to know is what happened to the #5 defense in the country from last year? Same coach. Same scheme. Ten starters back. What I see out there is uninspired effort, usually out of position, getting pushed around by the worst team in the SEC. If they don’t bring even greater passion than we saw in the Vandy game, next weel will make the SC game seem like a mercy killing. Our defense is very difficult to watch without actually throwing something at the television. Sad.

Really odd game tonight. I think we could have established the run but we really didn’t try. Threw the ball a lot because it’s the kind of game that makes Murray look like superman. With almost no pressure coming, Bobo chose another long ball night. A cohesive offensive rhythm was never established and there was little regard for time of possession. I believe Richt has solid Christian beliefs and is a Godly man but, he just does not seem to want it like he did in the first part of his career at Georgia. This is the second year for the head coach of Florida and his team is undefeated and more than likely will win the east. On the other side of the coin we have a coach with twelve years and two SEC titles. I have been waiting for another national title since 1980, and I figure I will be in a nursing home or be six feet under before we even come close. An embarassing win over the weakest team in the SEC. This coaching staff has got to go!! Even if we win against Florida by some miracle I worry about the rest of our opponents on this schedule – albeit one of the easiest schedules we’ve ever seen. I really am at a loss for words. How in the world are you guys in a position of having a true freshman punter, kicker, and right tackle? Why do you guys have a 5′10″ 270 lb. center from a private school? Why do you have a walkon fullback from that same private school? How in the world do you go from Brandon Boykin as a punt returner to a walkon who’s only job appears to be fair catching the ball. How do you only have, what, 56 scholarship players on your roster. With these limited numbers you can’t afford a full contact scrimmage during the week. You’re too thin. This is why your team is soft. Maybe if this were Richt’s 1st year and the prior coach left the cupboard bare, but this is what, the guy’s 12th year? He and Bobo have absolutely no foresight and apparently don’t study rosters, their’s or their opponents, in the off season. There is no excuse for Richt to have you in this position. Call be delusional or crazy, but I think the Dawgs can beat the Gators next week.

Look we can’t be that surprised the Dawgs can out flat. They have had two weeks to get beat on by the fan base and were down on themselves. This is how this generation of kid plays. Win big, get over confident. Then get blown out, confidence goes in the crap house, and then play like a bunch of bums the next week as well. Same thing happened to South Carolina. This is the ” Everybody Gets a Trophy” Generation. When they get hit in the mouth they quit, unless you have a Coach like Nick Saban who is on their case for every little thing.

I know the Gators whooped up on USC, but IDK, they don’t feel like the real deal to me. I’m not sold on Jeff Driskell. I think this team is due for a fall. I really don’t think they’re that much better than USC( just like we’re not that much worse than the Gamecocks). Gators had a lot of balls bounce their way today. Everything went right for them and went wrong for the Gamecocks. But I just don’t see them going 12-0. I like the Dawgs to win next week, I really do.

Like it or not, a football team takes on the attitude of its coach. That’s just what has been the case in Athens for the past 5-6 years or so. Just watching Richt’s facial expressions and lack of enthusiasm on his weekly TV show tells the story. The man is emotionless and lifeless. He needs some anti-depressant medication.

The past few years have not been the glory days of UGA football. The right people in responsible positions need to wake up to the truth.

I don’t know why the Dawgs have to make it so difficult. We should have jack-slapped Kentucky tonight. Instead our “vaunted” defense couldn’t stop the run in the first half and Kentucky stayed in the game the whole time. I don’t understand why the defense isn’t improving game over game. It takes them the whole first quarter to figure things out. They have done a great job in the 2nd half but what about the first half? What about showing up ready to stop the other team?

And why isn’t the offensive line showing improvement game over game? They do a good job for pass protection but what about opening up some holes for the running backs?

I am VERY afraid the FL game is gonna be a blow out if the Dawgs don’t bring their very best A+ game. I’m hopeful we can show up ready to take care of business and ready to play from the first kickoff. Go Dawgs!!!!

I shudder to think what FL is going to do to GA. It’ll be over before half time. if Mcgarity doesn’t fire richt and the entire staff he can go to hell. tem wins don’t cut it anymore when there isn’t any marked improvement from season to season. no big wins. it’ll all change next season with addition of LSU to the schedule. plus, tn will be better and sc has gone over the top now and owns ga. all because of the ad keeping cmr and his staff w/meaningless wins and embarrassing defeats. hell w/all of them.

The way Kentucky was running at will against our great defense made me so sick I was wishing Kentucky would recover that onside kick and score. Somebody please tell me how in the world we keep missing PATs. It’s time to clean house. Mark Richt had 10 years and it looks as he has taken UGA as far as he can. I’m not sure that my grandkids will live long enough to see UGA once again become a respected program. Yes Murray set record passing, but they mean nothing when our backs could run against Kentucky but Kentucky ripped over 200 yards rushing against our thug filled defense. I think net week Fla. will be at least a 4 td favorite. With their inability to stop what otherwise had been a poor Kentucky running attack, the dogs will will face an outstanding running team next week. With the gator defense teeing off on their average O line, Murray and the O will be hard pressed to consistently move the ball. Ga.’s poor defense this year has allowed even mediocre teams run up and down the filed on them. They may have a lot of individual talent but they don’t play together as a team.

LSU won today with less skill at QB and all “skill” positions than we have. They won for one reason. Buffalo, Fla Atl, Vandy, and now Kentucky. Can it get any easier? Can we make it look any harder? Heres the facts, A Kentucky team that was averaging under 109 yards a game had 111 in the first quarter. A Kentucky team that hadn’t scored a first quarter touchdown in 20 games does it on the first drive tonight with a third team backup leading them. The worst rushing team in the SEC OUT RUSHED the #11 team in the country with two freshmen backs and a red shirt sophmore back that were ranked in everybodys top forty. We beat a team by five that Vegas said was a 24 point spread with four and five star players at every position, while they have three and two star players. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS TEAM? Coaching? Effort? Heart, and or Discipline? Do you think at this point we’d be 6-1 with a schedule like S.C. or LSU has? Mark Richt and this coaching staff has become the laughing stock of the SEC. The O.C which has family ties to the Dooleys is the biggest bust to happen to the SEC since the Raiders took JaMarcus Russell. I challenge any Georgia Fan that bleeds Red and Black to look at the first to levels at every position on the depth chart, and not see a four to five star player. This team has become a disgrace and if by the grace of God we come close to UF next week, it would be a miracle. They beat SC like they owned them, and we’re the same team that lost to them. Mark Richt will come and give the Media the same old “I thought we played o.k.” speech, and fans will say , “well they only have one loss”. Mediocrity is the stamp of who this team is now. Will Muschamp has taken this team in year two to a number 2 ranking, and the possibility of playing for a national championship a reality, and we’ll settle for a OUTBACK BOWL NEW YEAR. Damn I’m sick Dawg nation, shouldn’t you be to?

There were a hundred articles written before the season that we were in trouble on the O line. We hid it early in the season but teams are now taking advantage of it.

I do not know what is exactly wrong with the run D but it probably has something to do with the fact that our best two defensive players have been playing hurt or not playing most of the year.

As far as some of you real fans thinking you are going to get CMR fired then you are delusional. The big money donors are not on this blog and you little people mean nothing. Get over it and go and root for another team.

I am sick as well, with this CMR team. Its the same old song and dance every year, get top talent and under coach them. Yes, when UGA hired Coach Richt this moved the program up a level. The problem is there is only so far Coach Richt is able to take this team, because he doesnt have that fire the top coaches have in the SEC ( Saban, Miles, Spurrier) They have won NC with their current or previous teams. Same crap just different year. Its not Grantham’s fault, he is passionate on the sideline. The players look like they are not interested or just want to go through the motions and get the game over with. I blame Coach Richt, because he is the head coach, he looks tired as well, maybe time to move to a new program. He fixed the defense problem, but left Bobo there. Bobo should have been replaced as well. I am starting to see UGA will never win a title with Richt there. I am a diehard UGA fan, but lets be real UGA gets blown out next week. Its easier to get drunk before the game so it doesnt hurt as bad when they beat us by 3 touchdowns. Go Falcons!!!

kerry465, sir, it is not you but I who have said it all these years. What, pray tell, is so hard to figure out that we’ve played 17 games in 12 seasons of Mark Richt era against teams who made the AP Poll Top 10 or any other Top 10, and won 3 of the 17 games ?

Should I list all the losses to UNRANKED TEAMS Mark Richt has all 12 years like Florida in 2002 who did not make either the Coaches’ Poll nor the AP Poll Top 25 even, or Colorado, or Boston College, or Central Florida, or South Carolina 6-6 not in a bowl game in 2007, or the vols’ wins over us when they sucked, or 7-5 Auburn in 2001, or 2-win Vandie in 2007 whose only 2 wins were over 0-12 Duke and 1-11 Temple, or all the Ron Zook teams who beat Mark Richt, or Michigan State in 2008 who did not beat a single team who made the Top 25 and does not get ranked without their win over us, or 2009 playing only Joe Cox with his chronic shoulder and flu against Okie State who did not even make the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over Mark Richt as a result, or our # 52 NCAA Total Offense all 12 years now of Mark Richt era, or any of The SEC teams making

MARK RICHT # 8 OF SEC TEAMS with wins over teams making Top 10 in the Mark Richt era ?

No, what we have around here are DISNEYdawgs.com posters who prefer to CENSOR posts which have pointed this out the entire Mark Richt era, that we MIS-MANAGE our talent all 12 years, fail to win the games against the real top teams, act like we are great in Mark Richt best years when he BEAT NO ONE who made the Top 10 all 12 years in his best years except # 6 LSU in 2005 by DJ Shockley. Even then we ended up # 3 in EVERY POLL 2005 of just SEC teams worse than Alabama and worse than LSU.

Our 2 “SEC Championships” 2002 there was only 1 other SEC team who made the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 a 4-Loss Auburn and 2005 when were # 3 SEC team in EVERY POLL.

For 12 years now, you have refused to listen to all these off-field issues of 150 players suspended, arrested, kicked-off, transferred-out leaving Mark Richt with only 66 scholarship recruits plus 1 transfer-in, a self-imposed NCAA PROBATION of 18 LOST SCHOLARSHIP RECRUITS. Mark Richt signed 107 scholarship recruits who could’ve played instead of all the walk-ons Saturday night. Our walk-on Fullback was DOMINATED by USCe. Our walk-on punt returner called fair catch while USCe scored a 70-yard punt return TD against Mark Richt’s feel-good walk-ons. We play walk-ons in the porous secondary. And, this is just game # 6, having beat no team in the Top 25 of any poll – ranked # 17 and for WHAT ?

I love the posters who state that they don’t understand why

You idiots on here defending Richt and Company; I have just one question. Do you actually watch other teams in the league play every week?

Yes I do. I watched a SC team that had played all their games at home this year until they played last week get their butts kicked two weeks in a row. I have watched an LSU team barely win game after game because they have no QB and an O-line that is injured. I watched a ARK team that was preseason number 5 in the nation look like crap. I have watched FL almost lose to Bowling Green, with no real QB win barely week after week until today and they got all the breaks today at home.

AL is the only team in the SEC that has lived up to the preseason hype. All the other teams have holes and anyone of them can beat each other on any given weekend.

It’s not “just” the coaching. The quality of some of Georgia’s players has been vastly overrated. Take our quarterback… Please. Neither Murray, nor “Gurshall” has ever produced a notable performance against a quality football team. Even if these skill players were capable, they have no help from the O-line. The defense is a gang of undisciplined thugs.

Georgia has the same old coaching problems that it’s had for years, but it’s not as if these players are world-beaters either — I don’t care how many “stars” Rivals gave them when they were in HS.

Next we beat Gaytors and then roll all the way to BCS #1. Getting rid a Coach Richt would be worst thing for team. We get recruits who come to Dawgs to play for Christain not like that sorry Saban. Our problems with Adams who choking recruiting with pointy head rules like you can’t recruit cause his high school bad or we can’t cut players that turns out stinkys. That is where we got to be Christian and cast out the wicked servant that not using talents to win for Dawgs. But NO that Adams put in place the pointy head rules. Fix Adams and get rid a dum rules and we can stockpile talent at Hargraves and reload each year better than Bammer. We own state and recruits in state. Just fire Adams so we recruits like Saban doing.

Both the defensive and the offensive lines are getting man handled. How in the world has the defense regressed so much? I have supported CMR from day one, but I am losing faith. He needs some more coaches that are “jackass” type personalities. He’s not one. If the head coach isn’t one, he needs a staff full of them in positions of authority. Great post Dude84. There is a difference when you change coaching at high tier program like UGA, its not like the NBA when you rebuild. The top players are always gonna come here. The big losses at UGA have come from being as you can say outfoxed or out coached. It gets embarrassing after a while, I will watch the FL game, but I know whats coming. Maybe something good will happen and the top brass will see hey were getting out coached by the other guys. Lets fix this and better guy in here that wants a title bad!!

AL, AU, FL, TN, have all won National Titles since the last time UGA was in the hunt. Much like the graduates of my Alma Matter, the Football Team can’t get the job done in real-world situations. Don’t keep giving us the same old crap. I actually was less unhappy when we were 4-7 or 5-6 with Donnan or Goff. At least we KNEW they sucked from day one. We have 1st round NFL talent on both sides of the ball. We have top-recruits every year. Why in the heck can’t we win…? Our coaches are 3rd tier. I’m at least not dumb enough to spend $400 per seat for the sure to be debacle in Jacksonville. I have never seen so many people lose faith on a team that is in position to take the lead in the SEC East, one of the top 2 conference divisions in college football. I am not sure whether they will have the x factor it takes to position themselves to be champions, but I know as a leader of people, that those people do better with expressed support than they do with vitrolic criticism like this. If my recollection serves me correctly, in the last 30 + years the Georgia Bulldogs have only had one undefeated season. There have maybe been only a handful of teams that have had repeat undefeated seasons. Including the last 5 national champions. Realize that this is the pain involved with competing in the greatest conference in college football. Go Dawgs!!!! beat Florida!

I said 2 years ago that mark richt and his entire coaching staff need to be fired. I don’t care if they win all their remaining games. The season is over. No national title. This team under performs like all of mark richts teams. The man cannot coach. All you have to do is look south at the gators. How do they build an awesome team and we can’t. I would love to sit back and say, We won and we did it with a REALLY good person as our head coach. The problem is we haven’t beaten a ranked oppenent in 3 years. Our defense has gotten worse since the 1st game of the year. Our special teams is atrocious. Our offense has problems scoring against FAU, KY, MO, etc. etc. etc. When do you say it’s time for a change? When do you say “we’ve got to get better?” I’m glad you are running one of my companies. If Florida beats UGA their coach has only been there since 2011 and will already be ahead of UGA, Saban has been at Alabama much less time than Ricth at UGA and the list goes on and on and they are all ahead of UGA!!! @Gdawg

I certainly understand your frustration, but I think you make decisions in a sports organization at the end of a season. While the season is in progress expressions of meaningless criticisms do nothing but create negativity that accelerates failure. Although I certainly want to see a National Champion at Georgia sooner rather than later, I temper my expectation with1) the understanding of what conference we play in, 2) the alternatives available and 3) the costs associated with the success. We play in the most intense conference in the land. I heard Bobby Patrino is available and Chisek might also be available, We could go after a Gruden maybe can they create champions having to reload teams every 3 years since most leave by theeir Jr year. People criticized Bobby Cox for only 1 WS How many managers in MLB had mutiple WS and how much did they spend to get them? I think only 3 managers in the last 20 years.

Hey Ward if you’re so ballsy why not post your email address on here so the real fans can blow your email up if UGA wins and heads to the SEC championship 2 years in a row. With Ritcht and his Snoopy coaching staff, UGA will never compete with the likes of Bama, LSU, FL. or USC. Richts plays favorite to his veterans…even when they play horrible. The starting DBs give up big plays pretty much ever game and for the most part are very poor tacklers. Sorry Ritchbo, your time is up.

One last comment to those who say CMR is so expressionless. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Saban as a coach who wears his emotions on his sleeve. Seems pretty in control of his emotions. @ go bravos have any of these coaches been head coahes in the SEC. Winning in the Pac 12 and Big East is not the same as winning in the SEC. They might be great coaches but then again they might be the beginning of 2-3 coaching changes before we get back on track

I want someone on here with a pulse to give me one reason to believe UGA will beat Florida? Make your case. Based on what I’ve seen, this is the most poorly coached team UGA has ever produced — based on the supposed talent returning. Murray? Nope — has never won a single, SINGLE, game of significance. Rambo? Please — over rated and toast in the secondary. Corneilious W.? — well he ran his mouth about criticism and hasn’t been heard from since. Swann? – a dropped pass away from getting burned by the worst team in the SEC. Our D line? — fat and out of shape. 206 yards rushing from the worst team in the SEC. Our O line? Not enough time to list. Special teams? Are you kidding? Richt said they get a bad rap — and they are terrible and rightly so. Can’t field a punt and barely a kickoff THIS MANY GAMES INTO THE SEASON? Rhett McCowenn? Really? CMR is stealing his salary as are the clowns who call themselves coaches. Prediction: Florida wins easily by at least 30. And it will never be close. Those who disagree? Tell me why I should have any optimism at all?

You know what…you’re absolutely right dbc, why should UGA even make the trip to Jacksonville? A waste of gas, especially in this economy. Do I wish we won this and every other game handily? Of course. But be realistic. UF beating SC this bad shows that no matter how good you are, and a lot of you are saying SC are the bees knees, anything can happen week to week. I’m assuming that all of you negative nancy’s are at the top of your respective professions given the fervor with which you degrade this coaching staff.

@dbc…with you all the way. Man, it’s frustrating to watch my Dawgs. People keep saying that UGA has the best defensive players…where? They must be on the bench because the crew that’s out there now must be a skeleton crew impersonating a great defensive. Rambo is horrible…he should have left when he had the chance. S. Williams (my opinion) makes tackles but still misses key coverages. Hell, I say give guys like C. Norman and Corey Moore more time on the field…they can’t be any worst then these busters we have out there now. Both can cover well and Moore can sure of enough tackle.

Quit beating Murray to death. The whole team the whole program, the whole system is O and forever with top rated teams. Georgia cannot handle this because they are always ranked above where they should creating a false sense of identity. They are there they feel this sense of belonging when they have not deserved such high rankings. This puts a target on their back. Other teams below their ranking play inspired to beat a team ranked above them and even teams like Kentucky play inspired to beat a highe r ranked GA team. Georgia has always been ranked too high and had a target on their back. When they play a top ranked team, Georgia is never mentally ready to beat them. When they play a team as some on this years schedule, the opponent plays out of their heads to beat GA and GA never looks good because the teams come out ready to play GA. The only game Georgia showed this kind of killer instinct was the Vandy game. Richt and Bobo have put too much pressure on Murray to succeed vs the top teams. We have rotated so many top receivers to keep our passing game successful we have forgot that the RB’s take a pounding. The way we are using the two freshmen will haunt us in the future by not letting some other capable backs run some in the game and keeping the two freshmen fresh. We are saving a fifth year senior on the bench for what? We are putting Malcome in the game at the end for what mop up duty. We eventually will wear these two out and we do not have anyone signed for running back for next year….You cannot expect two running backs to enter GA each year of this caliber. As Vince Dooly said about a departed running back. “It would have been nice to see a great back carry the ball fresh in the fourth quarter vs a tired defense.” The offensive scheme is that “offensive” at times. The worst thing Georgia does is not develop offensive linemen in mass…Hershel is gone…The national championship is over. We cannot bring it back by looking to Gershall, or Scott-Belue, or cannot remember those offensive linemen that blocked for the national championship…They wanted it more than our teams do today. They won with a more simple approach than we are attempting today. This is a coaching responsibility. Get them ready whether they are ranked high or not. If they are ranked high get ready to play all teams. If we are ranked lower get them ready to play all teams and challenge the teams above them. Georgia does not seem to have this instinct because they have not been where they should have been ranked and do not know how to handle it. Well the same goes for the coaching. They have not been there and they do not know how to handle it. McClendon for example…Is he using the backs in the best offense for the talent? but this is not his problem. Is Richt using the best offense to beat todays teams? Probably not.

The wife or the husband sometimes does not grow up. There is no growth for Georgia Football right now. No momentum. No variations. And worst of all, no luck. Coaches coach. Players play. Fans go indiscriminately crazy. Count me in. Georgia beat Kentucky. So a load of NFL talent just played a glorified high school and struggled to win. Coaches have to believe. Players have to believe. Fans have to decide whether or not they believe. Seven (7) games into the season and I have absolutely NO REASON to believe that this Georgia team can hang with Florida. Special teams still awful. Defense cannot stop the run. Offense still predictable.

All that said….112 – 39 in 11 1/2 years at Georgia. Look at our history. Find someone who has done a better job. My point is I still think Richt can get the job done, but it is time to make some internal changes when this season is over.

But how are we all going to feel if Richt and Co. pull off the “Cocktail Upset” and head back to the Dome? Just saying.

No discipline on the team, same old lame excuses for the lack of play. We are going to get our lunch handed to us in Jacksonville. If we get blown out like Carolina did, then time for a change, either the O.C./D.C. or both, maybe CMR himself. WE are sick and tired of the lackluster sit on the lead and run the clock out wins, lets blow some teams out of the water. There is no intensity, no fire, just lame UGA football. Fire the Athletic Director. He has tied his wagon to CMR and that pathetic coaching staff. He talked a good game when he came back to UGA but he has not delivered. Get rid of him and the new AD will know coming in that this staff has to go. This team is truly over rated. To barely beat the worst team in the conference by 5 points is a prime example of how sorry a job this coach staff does preparing the football team. They had 2 weeks to prepare the team. The defense is horrible. The offensive line could not run the ball against Kentucky. A basketball school. LSU ran the ball against Carolina with 9-man fronts. No question this team is over rated. This staff will never ever win the big game. Watch Bama play and see what a staff can do with good football players. That team is fundamentally sound in their assignments. UGA defense is constantly out of position allowing the big play.

No, you’re wrong. A real fan wants the team to pile up enough losses or near losses to inferior teams that the idiots in the Butt-Smear building will have no choice but to sack the 3rd-rate coach and hire a real coach who can take the program to the highest levels – an SEC championship and then on to the BCS. It should be crystal clear by now that that’s never going to happen with Mark Richt.

Real fans would be marching on Athens right now to demand a change. Under a new coach, eventually the words “Georgia Bulldogs” would command respect instead of derision, and the real fans could begin the healing process of recovering from years of mediocrity and irrelevance.

That’s what real fans would do.

Nope……JUST FIRE EVERYONE. Your team is ranked in the top 10 in America…..or will be…..and is playing next Saturday for the SEC East title and the right to play Bama in the SEC title game…..and most of you are on here calling for your head coach to be fired. As I said….just amazing! But….if the Dawgs upset Florida….the same people will be back on here posting about how the Dawgs are going to beat Bama and about how they are going to play for the BCS NC. That still could happen…….jezzzz. Florida’s defense is just outstanding. But the Gators offense is very one dimensional. Jacksonville is going to be really, really ugly next week. I don’t know if I can drink enough adult beverages to get through the game. Maybe passing out and missing the game would be better than watching Richt’s stumblebums get blown out by Muschamp’s wrecking crew.

This is getting really depressing. Maybe some Prozac and Jack would help, but I doubt it.

Do you know that Richt gets paid a third of a million dollars for each of the twelve games. Yes, while we were all agonizing during the game yesterday, Saint Mark got $333,333,333.33. Does that make sense? He gets paid a fortune every game, and his dummy recruits stagger around like they’ve all been hitting those special brownies. Or maybe they’re tired out from beating up their girlfriends.

Why do we rage against the miserably incompetent Richt? Marvelous Marky looks so cool with his great suntan and those über suave sunglasses that cost $250 if they cost a dime. And that salon-coiffed hair.

A laughingstock, that’s what UGA has become, just a symbol of buffoonery and humiliation.

I may just go to a movie and spare myself the misery of watching a real team – Florida – take the dawgs to the woodshed next week. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.

Now I just have to see what movies will be playing next weekend.

Cuga….you hit the nail on the head…..preferential treatment for “draft status” players….in this case Ogletree and Rambo…..defense was better before they returned…..other players see the preferential treatment and they just quit…Richt has been doing this for years…treating “draft status” players with kid gloves and special treatment so as not to “mess up” their draft status….it brings down the whole team…that’s the problem on Defense…..Offense is purely this…..we have the softest most poorly recruited and coached offensive line in the SEC….Richt has made the “skill players” the nucleus of our offense….all other bonafide teams have the O-Line the nucleus of their offense….Next week should get Richt fired as it will be like taking sheep to the slaughter….Defense looks like Ray Goff error….Offense looks like Quincy Carter error…..all of our players digress at GA…they are good when they arrive and they are mediocre when they leave….which just tells me one thing….we don’t practice with intensity..and due to that we never improve…players just get softer and softer over a three year period….kind of like socializing a society….bit by bit players become complacent and lose desire…just like Richt….crap…he doesn’t want to be Coach at GA or anywhere else….same thing that happens to all Coaches at GA…….get Rich and become complacent. I’M DONE. Done with it all. Better call Kirby now, cause his boat is ready to sail.

Hey defensive guys, before you start your “thug dancing” after tackling a runner for “only” an eight yard gain, act like you’ve tackled someone before. All that “thug dancing” would make one think you can actually “play defense”. Come on, have some class and just learn to play defense, tackle somebody and then just get back up and get ready for the next play! And what’s with the “no names” on the kickoff team????? The top teams have their really good players on kickoff—why would you put “no names” in that situation when they haven’t even secured a “starting position on the team” on such an important play (the kickoff) in the game?

So please someone explain why a coach that has a program packed with talent cannot win or even come close to a national tittle yet in the last 8 tears there have been coaching turnovers at 4 other sec schools and they have won the national title. It’s not like they’ve had 10 years to build a programs. No, they’ve come in and coached the team to theses titles and floridas new coach suddenly looks a lot better than our veteran coach. And for some of you out there, the sec title is so far out of the wimpy dogs reach it ain’t funny. 10 years of mediocrity. We need a big name coach. Period.

Georgia’s biggest problem , is that some of the moron atheletes they recruit love reading ther own newspaper clippings. You don’t survive in the SEC living on reputation. It’s a get down, grind it out physical league. After watching the SC game and the Kentucky game, it is apparent that we are still getting beat up front offensively and defensively…..play the same way next week and we will leave Jacksonville with another good ass whuppin…..The table is set…all we have to do is win out…..love my Dawgs…but I don’t think they can man up enough to pull it off. I hope after the season ends that CMR takes a long look at his staff and realizes that maybe they read their own clippings too much also…but then again,it all starts at the head …..Selah

@TampaGator, you don’t get it because you didn’t watch the game closely and you haven’t followed the dogs closely for the last decade plus.I appreciate your chastising of the negative fans, but I’m here to tell you that at this point, the REAL Bulldog fans-who have supported through thick and thin-have had all they can take. Your spin on their current situation looks accurate if you don’t closely follow the team, but one would be clearly delusional (again) to think this team has any chance of beating a good team. I have stood by Richt because there has been no clear cut choice to replace him. However, I am to the point (and I think most UGA fans are) that I am willing to risk going through the uncertainty of change. I hate it for the players, because I know they work harder than anyone who has never been a NCAA student-athlete can imagine. We fans should never get on here and criticise the players. Our coaches are responsible for how the team plays and responds to adversity in all situations. It TRULY is time for Mark Richt and his staff to move on.

Ahh, I knew you Richt losers would surface to defend him sooner or later. It’s all the players fault. Richt can’t run the plays for them. The players are pampered narcissists. More BS from the Richt suck-up class. Look, morons, don’t you think that Muschamp, Saban and Milers have the same potential for these issues? Richt can recruit but he can’t turn the his adolescent recruits into men of character with the focus and discipline that is required to win in the SEC, much less the BCS. Richt said they had fun at practice last week. Just what I wanted to hear..made me want to puke. Richt is not a smart, critical thinking coach and he doesn’t know how to mold kids into men. Both required for a successful program. What do these two attributes get you? Look at what Meyer has done in his first year at The OSU. That’s what it gets you. Richt doesn’t have “it” and never will.

Defense was better 2 years ago seems like it has deteriorated.

Georgia Bulldogs (2010-present)

Grantham has installed a 3-4 defense. Despite breakdowns in coverage at times, the Bulldogs ranked 23rd nationally in total defense and 35th in scoring defense (22 points allowed per game). His defense also forced 26 takeaways, over twice as many as Georgia had in 2009 (12), and helped them move from 118th nationally in 2009 to 18th in 2010 in turnover margin.

Georgia’s defense under Grantham finished the 2011 season ranked 3rd nationally in total defense, 7th in pass defense and 9th in rush defense. They also finished 2nd in the SEC in sacks (34), tackles for loss (94) and turnovers forced (29).

I always read but never comment. Dawg fan for 30 yrs. I am no expert but when year after year we have superior talent, multiple NFL prospects and all the tools to work with yet we stayed mired in at best mediocrity I HAVE to think it is a coaching issue. Love CMR but I sadly have to believe its time for change (”We’re what, 6-1, thats not bad”). We are undisciplined (multiple untimely penalties, multiple arrests and suspensions), seem to be unmotivated(purely subjective observation on my part admittedly), and are getting embarrassed by lesser teams. Why hire the “defensive coordinator” of a team that has the best 2 teams in the nation and is under the wing of a head coach who is a defensive coach? Bama’s 2nd team would be in the top 5. Getting almost no victories against ranked teams in the top 10 while CMR has been coach.
That’s the record. That’s reality. Like it or lump it, that’s the truth.
The only way UGA can change is on the field.
CMR cannot coach a team effectively in a big game because his players lose their composure when the chips are down. That’s coaching.

No rushing defense equals a field day for Florida next week. UGA has lost their mojo–don’t know why…

Because our defense plays a scheme that is way too aggressive. Our DE’s and Tackles rush up field, which leaves huge gaps for RB’s and running QB’s to exploit. The way LSU and FL controlled USC is by containing the edges and not allowing the QB to scramble up the middle. They didn’t try to sack him every play like we do. We should just hold our position at the line, instead of attacking every play…

Hey james!
Where did you get the early FL line number 21 point favorite. As bad as Ga has looked , I can’t imagine the number being anywhere close to 21 points? For all the old dog fans that were around in 1985, this game next week is setting up to be eerily similar. A six and one Ga team went to Jax to face a undefeated Fl team that was ranked number one and Ga rode two freshmen running backs(Tim Worley and Keith Henderson) to a huge upset! This is college football, with the athletes GA has they certainly can beat FL with inspired play and a few lucky bounces. While the Dawgs offensive line has performed miserably of late, I fear our worst problem with our running game will continue to be Bobo’s wretched play calling and head scratching backfield formations! Who else is sick and tired of that putrid shotgun formation hand off to a flat footed stud running back and that ridiculous reverse or end around to Mitchell at least once every game followed by at least five vertical passes to a flat footed receiver with no blocking. The only way we play with Fl is we run the ball better and average at least 5 minutes per offensive possession! Our offense needs to keep our under performing defense on the sidelines as much as possible. Go Dawgs!!! By the way Tim Worley was a true freshman running back from the state of North Carolina!

For the love of God can we hire a special teams coach and a strength and conditioning coach?
Can we find someone in this country to hire to get these kids to play like they are p!ssed off at the other team? All the players at Alabama play like the other team talked bad about their mamas. I respect Coach Richt as a man, but I am getting tired of the whole buzzard from the old bugs bunny rouine. Lastly, what the heck are these players doing celebrating single plays during the game? YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING this year so far but struggle against inferior opponents.

Wow, a lot of negativity but it’s well deserved. In one year, FL has blown by us. GA is stuck below the great teams and always will be with this staff. Somehow, they lack the toughness and consistency to win the big games anymore against ranked teams. How does a defense with so many returning starters that played well last year, play so poorly against inferior teams. With so much talent and to give up so many big plays is hard to watch. Anyone that thinks that GA is going to waltz into Jax and beat up on the Gators, is definitely drinking with something in their Koolaid! Let me say this to the gentleman who questions Bulldog fan loyalty when that fan base is only stating what is fact and which is constantly being borne out by the Bulldog’s on-field play.
Maybe the fan base is just damn tired of the same old BS year after year after year, where Mark Richt and the rest of the Georgia football program annually proclaims a great recruiting year and then goes about self-promoting the team in order to obtain a high ranking in the polls. Yet, when they have to put their money where their mouth is, they fall flat on their face. And that is entirely due to, and is the responsibility of, the coaching staff at Georgia. Mark Richt should have gotten rid of Mike Bobo a long time ago but instead he keeps him around so he himself does not have to be involved in the play calling, which once upon a time he did. Do you thing Spurrier would not be involved in play calling at South Carolina? Maybe that is one of the reasons that Spurrier and USC seemed to have owned Georgia for the last few years. Mediocre play when you are supposed to be dominant hurts recruiting. Mediocrity is going to continue to be the norm at Georgia until some changes are made in the coaching department.
In college football, there seems to be one big difference between being eternally optimistic and facing reality and that is winning when you are supposed to win and doing so in a dominating way. Other than Notre Dame, I don’t know of any other college football team in the nation that has been so undeserving of the lofty ranking they have received over the years than those that Georgia has enjoyed. Those high rankings are due solely to the hyperbole and hype from Georgia’s PR machine than from actually on-field play. So, my answer to the comment about just being fair weather friends of the program, I thing that the crux of the criticism centers around the fact that we, the so-called Bulldog nation, are just fed up with the lies and deception that annually comes out of Athens only to constantly fall short of what has been promised.
Next week, even if Florida is favored by 40 points, I wouldn’t bet on Georgia to even cover the spread and I base that on Georgia’s play against Tennessee, South Carolina, and Kentucky. They just don’t seem to be able to simultaneously put a good offense and a good defense on the field each Saturday. They either have a good offense and no defense, or a good defense and no offense. So, unless a miracle happens and Florida suffers debilitating injuries or pre-game illnesses that will prevent a lot of starters from suiting up, I’m afraid that Georgia is in for a very embarrassing loss next week. Maybe Mark can keep selling more Ford trucks. After all, he’s been selling us crap for a long time now as far as the football team is concerned.

A win is a win in the SEC and especially on the road. True, but not what the expectation is for the UGA program. If UGA truly wants to be recoginized as an elite program, they now need to take the next step and hire an elite coach. Sorry, Mark Richt is not that elite coach he’s paid to be. A head coach is a reflection of the coaches that work under him and being able to manage the coaches torwards a singular objective – championship football. Richt has failed and the offensive and defensive coordinators are not putting the players in position to realize success. Undiscipline football is what occurs during UGA football games, in all facets of the game – special teams, offense, and defense. Untimely personal foul penalities, failure to maintain lanes when defensing a run oriented quarterback (geez and look what Florida has), offensive line inconsistentcy within the o-line; all point towards a failure in the coaching staff properly preparing their team. I just point to the players UGA sends to the NFL on a regular basis. If they are good enough to make that jump to the next level, why haven’t they been good enough to make the jump to a championship at the college level? Coaching. It all points towards unprepared players that are put in the wrong position to make plays. Mark Richt, while a good man, is over his head in running a major college football program. It was a leap bringing him in, but let’s cut our losses and move on. If not, we’ll continue to slog through seasons of medicore play, nice stats, bowl games, numerous records, NFL ready players, etc. So if the UGA administration’s goal is to be a middle of the pack program, they’ve reached their objective; however, what we’re sold is that Championships is the sole goal. Come on McGarity, what is the true goal? Time for everyone connected with the program to elevate their performance, athletic ability will only win so many games.

What really bothers me the most is that I have so much passion for the bulldogs but they act so uninspired week after week as if they could care less. It’s hard to believe with all of that supposed talent on defense they could produce such poor results. Could they possibly be playing only only for themselves and trying to stay healthy until the nfl comes calling. They sure don’t fly around like UF and SC. I won’t even get into Bobo’s playcalling..geez. The most unimaginative offensive scheme I have ever seen. He’s in way over his head. What works against buffalo doesn’t necessarily work against S Carolina and Florida but he just doesn’t get it. The reality is that UGA teams do not play hard against good teams and are not well prepared. Against ranked teams, when was the last time you saw UGA better prepared on either side of the ball? Michigan State? USC? Boise? I think not. Murray is just lost when things start to break down after 3 years as a starter. The playing hard issue comes down to both players and coaches. I challenge the premise that UGA gets top 5 talent. I think UGA gets a lot of players that look good in the team picture in terms of size and speed, but the heart is seriously lacking and this cannot be disputed.

When was the last tough game that UGA clearly wanted it more than the other team? Case in point, Rambo had that ball in his hands against USC on the first pass and let the other guy take it away. The other guy wanted it more. This happens every time against a tough team for years now. Watch Minter at LSU blowing plays up in the middle where Ogletree and Herrera and Robinson are on roller skates when anyone comes to block them. No fight at all.

The unraveling started in 2005, after Pollack and VanGorder left and took their leadership and passion with them. The first sign was the 2005 Sugar Bowl, where WVU had 28-0 lead at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. UGA went 9-4 the next year with a strong finish. Richt’s worse record to that point. Big expectations for 2007 and then UGA played passionless ball in Knoxville to lose 35-14. After that game, Richt received the first true heat of his tenure. He scrambled to right the ship and with a lucky win against Vandy got the Dawgs on a roll to finish 11-2 and with a #2 final ranking. Its been all down hill since then. 2008 preseason #1. UGA lost to every good team they played and beat every mediocre team (sound familiar?). A beat down against Bama 41-30 and another against UF 49-10. Paul Johnson beats UGA 45-42. 2009 UGA goes 8-5. The slide continues. Richt is feeling heat and fires Martinez (who didn’t get nearly as much rope as CMR is getting). 2010 UGA goes 6-7 with a gutless 10-6 loss to Central Florida in the bowl game. 2011 Now the slide is entering its 6th year and Richt is in a do or die situation. Start the season with a mind numbing flop to BSU and a mistake filled loss to USCe. UGA goes on a 10 game win streak against the weakest UGA schedule in memory. Lose badly to LSU 42-10 and lose the bowl game. 10-4 record where UGA lost to every good team on the schedule and beat every mediocre team (sound familiar?). 2012Expectations are high because UGA brings back a roster of experienced future NFL draft choices to play against an even weaker schedule than the year before. They have a little momentum and every other team in the conference either lost a lot of players or is in transition. Only two good teams on the schedule—USCe and UF. UGA starts off 5-0 against mediocre competition and then loses to the first of the two good teams on the schedule 35-7 (sound familiar?).

And so it goes….on…..and on……..and on.

It is hard to believe that Muschamp could take over a program in disarray and turn it arround in a little over a year. He accomplished this, in part, by running off some of Meyer’s head cases and creating an atmosphere of discipline and accountability for players and coaches. Coaching needs more like him. Next week, Richt will be saying 6-2 is pretty good.

So Richt’s comments coming out after half was “we are calling the right defense, they are just doing a better job of executing”…..Are you F’in kidding me….Stupid is what stupid does…if they are doing a better job of executing then change the plan of attack….Richt has lost it….Please go back and watch the interview and ask yourselves if you are in the fox hole and the mortars start coming in is Richt the guy you want leading the troops into battle….let me give you a hint….NO!!

Second tier SEC Team, AGAIN, and the sad part is they have as much talent on the field than any Team in the country. I feel for these kids because they are being trained to strive for mediocrity and it is done in such a quiet and determined manner that they do not even realize it is happening…..They we ruin Gurshal in less than 2 yrs with the play calling and lack of O Line play…..for example why in the hell does Bozo continue to hand the ball off from the gun….take the snap under center and let the horses hit the line at full speed…..at a minimum we get 3?? The O line collapses 3 out of 4 offensive plays so the likely hood of a loss on the shotgun hand off is a high probability….Someone help me understand…is this one of those “trickeration” plays they mention on ESPN where you line up like you will pass and then you “sneak it” to the back….

If only there was a way to take all the fire from the bellies of the frustrated Dawg Nation and hove a handful down Richt, Bozo and lost Grantham’s throat…..if not Fla 42-UGA 21 next week and we all wake up with a bad hangover!!!!!!

Been a loyal UGA fan for 46 years. I’m a Terry graduate. My Dad, too.

Bottom line: Think about it…really. If #34 hadn’t signed with UGA, then where would our program be today. 2 SEC titles in 32 years. UGA has never been about titles, frankly. Check basketball, too.

Reality: While the hillbillies were drinking beer on the railroad tracks on Saturdays (70s and 80s), the rest of this State was busy growing the population from 1.5M people to 5.8M people today (i.e., Atlanta metro). That growth has brought about change. Change in demographics. Housing. Business. Expansion. Regional hubs. Corporate influence. In other words, this state and it’s flagship university have been on a mission to improve its national standing (academically, socially, financially, etc). Today, UGA has become a well-respected institution and it will continue to aspire to do greater things (it’s not quite UF, Vandy, or Missou academically (all of which are AAU institutions).

You see, UGA administration doesn’t see football as the ticket to positioning the institution (as Bama and others do). Those institutions lack the kind of momentum and institutional qualitative change that has occurred at UGA over the past 20 years.

If you need a peer institution that UGA aspires to be more like it would be UNC and UVA. Alumni donations (not to football) / giving per student is the key to drive the institution forward. And, of course, endowment and continued strengthening of students/faculty.

So, the Crack in your Rose Colored Glasses is that UGA benefits from a tremendous recruiting base (and will sign enough of them to remain competitive. Mark Richt is an image guy up front for the program (which the administrators like…think brand). UGA will never hire someone like Saban, Petrino, or Kiffin b/c of the risk that would pose to it’s more important mission right now….which is to become a top 50 national research university (public and/or private).

And, there it is!

A couple of years ago, they talked about recruiting the Dream Team in state… Crowell etc. We see how that’s worked out. No line push against the Wildcats for the RB’s. How do they expect to win against a better defense by solely relying on the pass when all FL has to do is get some pressure and the whole offense will fall apart. Anyone who is passionate about their team wants to at least see their “whole” team play with that same passion… not just a few players. When can we quit saying “Maybe next year!”

A bad call by the officials is how Dogs won. That was clearly not running in to the kicker. He was PUSHED into the kicker and had no time to stop himself. He was trying to stop but clearly the replay showed he was shoved into the kicker. That bad call resulted in the keeping the Dogs’ drive alive and that touchdown was the difference in the game. 11th ranked team squeaks by in a bad call and will probably go up in the ranks. I expected to be 5-2 at this poing and figured UGA to be 5-1. I was wrong about my Gators and pretty close on UGA. I knew that our Defense would be stout and the Offense; well I just was not sure. Actually I am still not sure about our Offense. What I am sure about is Muschamp might have been Foley’s best hire of many he has made. Florida fans being typical Florida fans were ready to throw Will under the bus after last year, but just did not realize what kicking 11 players off the team will do to your depth.

This Saturday, we find ourselves favored over UGA and we will find out in my opinion if we are legit. Not because of not having as good as talent as Georgia, but because we will see if Will continues to pull the right strings in getting this team to play up to potential. For us to win, we must continue to play physical and smart. Not making bad turnovers and more importantly, not reverting to back to the pre 90’s when we used to get to full of ourselves. Leave it to our fans as they are certainly good at doing that. I feel that Muschamp will have them ready and as a diciple of Saban, have them playing only one week at a time. For UGA to win, it will have to fall on Murray and his receivers shoulders as I do not believe UGA’s O line will be able to open up enough holes for the backs to run. Not ready for a prediction yet; will wait till later in the week to see how the week progresses this.

I have been a loyal Dawgs fan since 1974. I even have the Georgia “G” tattooed on my right arm(yes really). But its my belief that CMR doesn’t have the fire or desire to coach this team anymore. It shows in the teams play and recruiting in my opinion. Plus he’s way to loyal to his “underling” coaches as well. It took him forever to realize that Willie Martinez wasn’t the man for the job.

Enter…Todd Gratham. A fiery coach and defensive mind that the Georgia Brass put a collar on because he was to fiery. Mike Bobo with his 5.7 kids is absolutely clueless when it comes to calling plays and abandons offensive schemes to quickly. If I see the wide receiver screen on more time I’m gonna throw up.

The truth is…we have 6 wins against teams with losing records giving the “Richt Disciples” false hope. In other words….YOU’RE LIVING A LIE if you thing this team is an upper echelon team. At best they are a mediocre 2nd level team. Thats like being the smartest person in a special ed class(no offense meant here, just a comparison). After last night I was looking for a good sander and a bottle Crown so I could numb myself while I sand this G tattoo off my arm.

I keep getting blasted by the “Koolaid Drinkers” saying don’t bash CMR he’s a good man. CMR being a good man ain’t in question. So I asked this…Were Saban, Miles, Spurrier, & Meyer hired by their schools because they were good men? Changes need to made or we’ll continue to “woller” in mediocrity. ‘Nuff said…. AND Go Dawgs !

A road win in the SEC – I will darn sure take it. No, it wasn’t exactly pretty, but I wouldn’t call it ugly, either. It was incomplete, inconsistent, not fully satisfying. But I don’t think you can call a win in which the QB has a record day “ugly.”
That play where Swann got burned was horrifying, and it’s true UK missed some great opportunities like that. But the Dawgs did, too. We got some breaks, like the running into the punter, and they did too, like that reverse-pass thing in which Jenkins tipped the ball but the QB still caught it.
The most important thing CMR and Co. can do this week is somehow have the Dawgs believing that they can and should win, BEFORE they step on the field. They have to go in expecting to play well and to win, period. They cannot start playing and waiting for something good to happen before they believe. I have finally accepted that our D is not that great. They are good at times, and it was frustrating to watch UK move the ball. But that’s partly because fans somehow expected the Dawgs to never even give up a first down, much less three TDs. But I think the D can bow up at important times. Obviously the key is that we HAVE to be clicking on offense. And the O-line will have to play out of their minds! But I believe they will. Go Dawgs!

Good point, but that hasn’t stopped other universities that UGA strives to imitate from fielding championship teams, i.e. Texas, Notre Dame, USC from excelling on the field. And make no mistake, the funding used to finance the changes UGA wishes to accomplish are driven by success on the football field. The #1 branding vehicle for UGA is still the football program. While I agree they don’t want to hire a Petrino or Saban (and I agree), there are plenty of potential coaches who also fill the branding requirement.

Florida by 33 over USC. USC by 28 over UGA. Does that make the Gators 61 point favorite over UGA? Probably not! But anybody that has confidence that UGA will win in Jacksonville, where UGA has perpetually look lost, bewildered, incompetent, and leaderless? If you’re favoring UGA, then that G on your Geogia gear should stand for ‘Gullible’. Why Georgia perpetually agrees to play IN Florida every year? Their record there is dismal. Not deciding to play half the games at home has to be one of the most monumentally stupid decisions all-time in college football. J. Craig, the OL are slow, big, and lazy. The tennessee game, I thought, was the best blocking I have seen in a long time. I guess that was just one game. Now they can’t block anybody. SC just took the life right out of them.??? !!!!????? IDK. We need some coaches. A coach has to demand perfection in order to compete in the SEC. It is a must to be physical. What is going on? Has Grantha even played any 3-4 this season. It appears he has went to a zone, robber, cover crappy D. Willie Martinez is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to break your lil heart Sammy, but Uga is not in the same category a Alabama or Fl. Albama and Fl will play in the SEC championship. Ga’s defense did not show up this year. Defense wins ball games. If the defense played half of what it was suppose to, the offense could of balanced out. There is no balance on the Uga football team. Special teams is still a big mystery. Why are the players letting the ball bounce on a punt so the other team can down it on the one yrd line?? Fair catch the dam ball. WTH.

Thanks.SKB for ruining our next 5 freaking years. We all know CMR is a good man. We need a coach. It appears that about 80% of ga fans are tired of seeing mediocracy. It is the same ole crap different season. I just want to see the players give their all for 4 quarters. I want to see every player in the best physical shape of their lives. I want to see the players defend their home turf. I want to see a good game plan. I want to see the players ready to play on game day. Just play good solid football. Its coaching. This day and time. If you can’t get it done, your fired. BOBO QUIT RUNNING UP THE MIDDLE,WE GOT THAT ON FIGURED OUT. THE END AROUND TO MITCHELL GETS YOU ABOUT NEGATIVE 10 YARDS EVERYTIME YOU RUN IT. USE THE RUNNING PLAYS THAT WORK AND PASS THE DAM BALL. LET MURRAY DO SOME READS AND KEEP THE BALL. SC AND FL ARE KILLING PEOPLE WITH THE RUNNING QB READ OPTION. MURRAY HAS RAN IN THE PAST AND PICKED UP POSITIVE YARDAGE. WHY NOT THIS YEAR? DUH

It’s a pretty low day sitting here at work taking heat from all my Gator co-workers. I don’t know what the problem with the team is this year because I thought UGA was much better than how they’ve played the last two games. I’m not even looking forward to Saturday afternoon, sorry guys I know it sounds negative but I think it’d be better off for me to just check the score every thirty minutes. I wish these guys could put togather a complete game just one time versus a big time opponent. It’s been a long road of beating the little guys and getting smoked by the elite teams the last few years.

Our punt coverage team sucks. McGowan is scared to death. He let the first one drop in front of him when he should have fielded it. Then, after a butt chewing, he fielded several with what appeared to be a great amount of reluctance.

TN matches up perfectly with arguably the best OL in the SEC and a passing attack that gave Bama fits against a very suspect SC secondary. Te team has taken a big step backwards and they look like limping dogs. Not hat anybody expected and this is not going to win an SECC much less than a NC. I think CMR has over stayed his time. I was standing behind him, but here we go again. UGA will get toasted against UF. We thought that the SC game was bad, wait until the UF game. It is time for new leadership and we will just have to deal with the loss of commitments to get this ship headed in the right direction. so what that they are 6-1, they still look very bad and still cannot bea top competetion and with the start of next year’s schedule, UGA can start the season off 0-2 because we all know how well they prepare for the big games.

He played against Mizzou & still had a monster game, but he’s been playing hurt ever since then, has missed 2 games since then, & has even more injuries since then as well. You also have to keep in mind that everyone is keying on not letting him beat them as well. Jarvis pretty much single handedly beat Mizzou, bc it was actually close for a while…until he started wrecking havoc.

From what’s being said by the team, the players are on the bench. They are all very frustrated because there’s nothing that they can do abount. Some players have went to the coaching staff with only lies to be told to them. But in the meantime we are not taking care of business like we should. The coaching staff are only letting the players play that they seem to like for some reason. Which is total unacceptable and flat out wrong. How can u take Ken Malcom position and give it to the freshmens all because the did well in the first couple of games. Ken is clearly a running back then both of these freshmans. To sum it all up the coaching staff is playing the who I like foolishness, and it will come back to bite them in the A***** REAL SOON. They will not give the other players a chance and this is very sad. And they say Richt is a saint bullcrap.

You would have thought CMR would have been gone BEFORE they gave him another 5 year contract extension! But hey, this is Michael Adams & UGA where insanity reigns supreme. I stopped by donations in 2009 and have not been to a game since. The Athletic Department is not the only area of UGA that needs a housecleaning. That whole place is rotten to the core, and it goes much higher than Athens. For those of you who care about our Alma Mater, PLEASE read “Behind the Hedges”. It will open your eyes with documented facts about UGA (the author, now deceased, was an AJC reporter for many years). All of this nonsense at UGA begins to make a lot more sense when you read that book.

At the end of the day, it is just football. However, the obscene amounts of money our coaching staff gets paid to produce this crap made me throw in the towel. Like it or not, college football at this level is a business. Unfortunately, too many still financially support this substandard product. In the real world the rest of us live in, these clowns would have been unemployed from the top down.

Only FL, GA and SC have wins to speak of but they are against these 2 and 16 teams. Who couldn’t win against them? Georgia barely beat an 0-4 conference foe in Kentucky and they are ranked 10th. “..It has been YEARS since UGA beat a team that was ranked….”
What does that have to do with right now; this week? I’d bout give my left nut for us to beat Flawduh in order to shut up this continued rant. Actually, we’ve beaten several ranked teams the last few years…ranked when we played them and maybe eventually fell out.

“…playing and coaching, with no heart…they act so uninspired week after week as if they could care less…overall lack of any toughness or energy…We have become apathetic…I think we have to much religion in our program…”
I started to say, “I’ve never seen such misplaced, inaccurate, or fallacious observations.” But, on second thought, I have; right here on the AJC, and quite frequently.

“…Todd Gratham. A fiery coach and defensive mind that the Georgia Brass put a collar on because he was to fiery…” Just too typical of the some of the comments here.

Thank you Rick James@12:08pm…”…blogs for the armchair fans who only watch on television and do nothing but complain…” And know all the answers.

Thank you Sammy@4:02pm…”…UGA is 6-1 and ranked #11 in Coaches poll…” Yes, you’d think we were a perennially losing team, never ranked and never having gone to the SECC game.

There are well over 100 other D1 programs that fit the bill. There are about 20 (or more) “top” programs whose coaches should be fired…Okey, Tex, FSU, WV, Clem, Awb, Tenn, Neb, Mich, Mich St, Stan, Boise, etc etc. Chitzik has a NC under his belt. Y’all want him for HC?

gab @4:50pm…”…I want to see a good game plan. I want to see the players ready to play on game day. Just play good solid football…” Nothing wrong with that. We want to see them come out ready to play; play fairly mistake-free for four quarters and at least be competitive; and not be blown out. I totally agree. But, I get the feeling that if we’d lost to SC by a last second field goal, the comments would be the same here. And, I agree that it was very disheartening to see Kaintuck run the ball so well. Inexcusable. “Big John” and Geathers (and the return of ‘Tree) were supposed to be the answer to that. The D, no the whole team, better get their act together to have a chance against Flawduh.

Just saying…some act like we’ve already lost the Flawduh game. Some act like we have a losing record and the season is already a disaster. Let it play out.

Go Dawgs!

Mostly agree with Jboro Dawg. I’d like to see how we fare against fla first. Obviously, it doesn’t look promising for the Dawgs at this point–and a loss pretty much confirms for me that this coaching staff no longer is able to get the team properly prepared for big-time opponents. Few give us a chance in this game; however, that’s often when decent teams bow up and show their stuff. And if the Dawgs are able to do that, then there’s an awful lot to play for THIS season. If not, it’s time for a change. For me, the jury’s out until Saturday night.

Jborodawg

I failed to mention, SC has two losses; one a blowout by Fl. I reckon that makes Spurrier apathetic, no energy, no toughness, mediocre.

Worth mentioning: Kentucky always seem play us tough because half their team is usually from Georgia. They were passed over by UGA and really want to prove something when we play…?… But, still no excuse for their running the ball against us like that.

“For me, the jury’s out until Saturday night.”

Me too.

@Cugas–TOTALLY AGREE
@Ward–TOTALLY AGREE
@Frank Lane–I KNOW what’s wrong with the defense–GRANTHAM–has hyped Jarvis & Ogletree up who has a ticket to the NFL already, Jordan Jenkins, Herrera, Dawson–HIS RECRUITS are not better than the personnel that was on the team before; more talk from Richt & Grantham about the enthusiam of the SUSPENDED PLAYERS & FRESHMEN RBs (when was the last time either of them scored?) “THE GOOD OLE BOY SYSTEM” is in FULL-EFFECT—we got the talent but it’s not being used properly. TRUST ME I KNOW, Grantham appears to be showing FREAKING FAVORTISM to the Freshmen that HE RECRUITED and has forgotten about the RECRUITS of “UNCLE TOM GARNER” OR he simply just IGNORED the BAMA MENTALITY BACKWOOD GUY.. I know one place UNCLE TOM need not show up again is in SOUTH DEKALB COUNTY… WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LEARN TO ROTATE PLAYERS ON DEFENSE SO THEY WON’T LOOK SO BEAT DOWN!!! Where is Ray Drew (NO CLUE WHERE HE IS), TJ Stripling (gets the ONLY sack against FAU and we won 56-20–WTF), Ken Malcome (POWER RUNNER–scored the only TD against SC–and drug players to do it), Zander Ogletree (has swallowed a COW but has not touched the field–TWINS FEED OFF OF EACH OTHER DUMB JACK AZZES??? I know these guys can play giving the OPPORTUNITY, they were HIGHLY RECRUITED SO MAKE THEM EARN THEIR SCHOLARSHIP AND PLAY THEM…RAMBO is a NONFREAKING FACTOR but they were waiting for him to come back along with the other GOOFOFFS, Alec Ogletree is trying to hold it together but him, just like Jarvis are concerned with the NFL and not the TEAM.. I wonder what it would look like to have an “I” in TEAIM, TIAME, TMIEA, ITAEM–WEIRD for sure. Secondary is getting killed. THE MORALE OF THE DEFENSE, has to be blamed on GRANTHAM—he has killed the spirit of players just waiting on the opportunity to play; OFFENSE problem is someone name BOBO (THE CLOWN)–HE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO WESTROME HIGH IN GA AND CARRY OUT HIS POSITION THERE, THE WATER BOY…The game against Kentucky should not have been that close but ANY TEAM and get PUMPED UP TO BEAT UGA or EXPOSED the POOR COACHING & LACKLUSTER ATTITUDE OF THE DEFENSE since they don’t appear to tbe too excited about playing these days. HELL, LOOK AT THE FACES OF THE SOFTE-PUSHOVER-SCARED OF GRANTHAM(RICHT), RACIST-NO PLAYING PRO AZZ(GRANTHAM), CLOWN(BOBO-MISSING THE RED PAINTED NOSE), AND OF COURSE UNCLE TOM(GARNER–WITH HIS HEAD DOWN TO RICHT&GRANTHAM–WEARING A BURLAP SACK), where should the players look to for STRENGTH & MOTIVATION??? HELL, maybe they can call SATANIC(Saban), FLEXING(Les Miles), JOKER(Spurrier), or FAKEAZZ–MISSING TEBOW(Meyers) for a PEP TALK????!!! SOLUTION; FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, CLEAN HOUSE SO THEY ALL CAN GO SCREW THEMSELVES SINCE THEY ARE SO GOOD AT WITH THE TALENT THAT IS RIGHT UP UNDER THEIR NOSE..

UGA needs to decide what they want to be. If success is defined as being a top 25 team that strives for 9-10 wins a season and a New Years Day bowl game? If so, Richt is your man. If you fancy yourselves as Champions, you need to make a change.

When Muschamp walked into his office on his first day as the head coach the office was empty. Empty except for three Crystal trophies on his desk. Foley has made his exceptions clear.
