About Kentucky

Record: 1-6 (0-4 SEC)

Last time played: Georgia defeated Kentucky 19-10 in Athens on Nov. 19, 2011, to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game.

On offense: Kentucky has been hard hit by injuries at quarterback, where sophomore starter Maxwell Smith is out with a torn ankle ligament and freshman backup Patrick Towles is doubtful because of a high ankle sprain. Freshman Jalen Whitlow is likely to start at QB for the third consecutive game; senior Morgan Newton is another option. Injuries also have hurt at tailback, where the Wildcats lost 2011 starter Josh Clemons (knee) and 2012 starter CoShik Williams (hip) for the season. Raymond Sanders, from Stone Mountain (Stephenson High), is the Cats’ leading rusher with 324 yards in six games played. Senior La’Rod King is the top receiver with 31 catches for 351 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense: Four true freshmen — including twin brothers Daron and Zack Blaylock, safeties from Marietta (Walton High) — played extensively last week in Kentucky’s injury-decimated secondary. Junior linebacker Avery Williamson is third in the SEC with 68 tackles.

What you should know: Kentucky had its worst game of the season last week, trailing Arkansas 42-0 at halftime and losing 49-7 in a game stopped in the third quarter because of lightning. The Wildcats’ three previous games were against ranked opponents (losses to Florida, South Carolina and Mississippi State); their only win came Sept. 8 over Kent State. The Cats have played 26 freshmen (including redshirt freshmen), fourth most in the nation. Kentucky has 23 players on its roster from Georgia.

Coach: Joker Phillips, in his third season as Kentucky’s head coach, has a 12-20 record (4-16 SEC).

Hopefully dawgs rebound but Kentucky probably not intimidated especially when they review the tape from the SC game.

You can bet it’ll be closer than any Dawg fans think it should be. Looking ahead to FL.

Win this one and we are bowl eligible! But then, we could become bowl eligible if we only beat Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Tennessee, Kentucky, GT and Georgia Southern.

Getting a trip to a bowl game with our schedule is like a 2nd grader getting a participation trophy. No real accomplishment here.

Working down here amongst the Gator fans. Mood is Cautiously Optimistic with a hint of SCARED about the Gamecocks coming to the swamp. Surprisingly not that many lining up at the Muschamp Gatorade stand yet but look out if they beat SC, it’ll be unbearable. Still I say “Just Win Baby” give us a shot and level ground in Jax so we can “Hunker Down Just One More Time!” Go Dawgs!!

Relax OkieDawg……Bama is also playing weak teams as are LSU, Florida, SC, etc. In fact, Georgia Southern beat Wofford who is on SC’s upcoming schedule. Instead of being a pessimist, let’s believe that UGa will soon break out of this “recent” trend of losing to top 10 teams. Go Dawgs!!!!

Give me a reason for the optimism, Just Saying.

Even in Richt’s new and improved career (’11, ‘12) we are still 0-for-4 vs Top 10 teams with 3 blowouts.

I predict we win this one by about a score of 45-17. The game Will be in doubt at half and far into the third quarter. Richt is poor at blowing out anybody. Our defense is why we won’t beat FL except for our offense and special teams! We just dont match up. Richt is capable of taking GA to the top of mediocre but its been so long we have beaten a good team that I’ve lost faith. Solid in so many ways , gets a lot of wins vs weak opponents but really rising to be a great team is just not happening.
