Aaron Murray poses with his family, including his father Dennis (L) following graduation last fall. (Murray family photo)
ATHENS – When Aaron Murray tweeted Sunday, “probably the worst 12 hours of my life,” he wasn’t just talking about Saturday night’s 35-7 loss to South Carolina.
Murray found out that his father, Denny Murray, had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. “Papa Murray,” as Aaron referred to him in another tweet, underwent surgery today at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa. The family reports that it went well and he is recovering.
Apparently Denny Murray had been diagnosed “a few weeks ago,” but the parents told Aaron only on Sunday. Aaron Murray and his brother drove to Tampa yesterday.
The distressing news followed a depressing Saturday night for Murray and his roommate, linebacker Christian Robinson. As revealed in a tweet from Robinson, they returned from the team’s trip to Columbia to find their rented home in Athens egged and rolled with toilet paper. “Seems that people turn on you when you’re not perfect. Thought we were in this together,” Robinson wrote.
Word is good Samaritans later cleaned up the mess.
So there’s a lot more on Murray’s mind today than the Bulldogs’ poor showing in Columbia. Please keep that in mind going forward.

Why did nobody egg Richt’s house?? If I lived in Athens I would be slashing his tires and knocking down his mailbox on a daily basis until he got so fed up that he left town voluntarily, because we all know McGarity will get too much pressure from the bible thumpers in Richts corner, to fire him after this season. The fact remains we have the worst big game QB in the conference in Murray (0-10 vs. teams that finished the season ranked) and the worst big game coach in the SEC in Mark “I love Jesus too much” Richt who is too busy planning church activities and suspending players for minor indescretions to win BIG SEC football games. This is why Richt is 0-12 vs. teams that finished the season ranked since 2008. Bama 2008- slaughtered. LSU last year- annihilated. Boise State last year humiliated. SC this year-embarrassed. And you homers still want this man as a coach, are you ignoring these facts or what?

[...] Aaron Murray found out this weekend that his father has thyroid cancer. Murray’s stat line (11/31, 109 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT) might reflect that type of distraction. Not represented in that stat line is the five or six drops that receivers had. Missing from the box score is the fact that Murray was on his back or buried by a defender even more often than he was off-target. Lost in that stat line is the fact that Aaron Murray played in a hostile environment against a beastly defense – neither of which was as concerning to him as his family’s situation. [...]

Some of you need to get a life. Sun came up today. It was an awful loss. But there are some things that are more important.
God speed to Mr. Murray and family.

Astrauga, you stated:
I don’t think many people expect to win every game, however, UGA was picked by about half of the “experts” and the line was very close. No one predicted UGA to get blown out. The reason — because UGA is a better team than that. On paper and on the field. So what happened? That is what the UGA fans want to know. It should have been closer. I think if we were ever even in the game, most fans would be fine with a loss at to USC in their stadium. However, we looked like a bunch of chumps out there. I don’t believe USC is that good, nor do I think we are out the SEC East race. It should have been a game. It was never a game. The coaches are responsible at the end of the day. Period. It is their job to direct the team, perpare the team and make adjustments and substitutions as needed.
——————————————————————-
Like most UGA fans, you’re dead wrong. USC is that good. We have the #1 or #2 front 7 D-line in the SEC. And everyone knows one of UGA’s weak points is the O-line. And Murray doesn’t play well with lots of pressure. So stop the run, put pressure on Murray, and you have an excellent chance to win. If you add the fact that UGA can’t stop USC #21 and USC has a QB who can run and doesn’t makes mistakes; USC should win the game. I did think UGA DL would be competitive against our OL, but that wasn’t the case.
You should stop reading all these recruiting papers about UGA 5 stars. As the HBC said, it’s what you do with them when you get them on campus. USC an outstanding DL, #21, solid special team, and a QB who can run and doesn’t make a lots of mistake…He’s 14-1; and has beaten top 20 teams….teams with winning records. As of now, this is a very good football team…we just need to stay in the moment. If so, we’ll beat LSU and Florida.

You know sometimes you get your ass handed to you when you paly in the SEC. That happened to us Sat night. Time to re-group and stay true to UGA. It’s easy to be a front runner when we are on the other side. SC played as good as any team I have watched this year and we played as poorly as any UGA team I have watched over the years. Strange things happen in the SEC. Remember Auburn / SC last year ….DAWGS keep playing hard and good things will happen. Any other attitide is just non prodcutive. Regarding the guy with the “fire MR sign. it might not be a good idea to be at Broad and College. you may get your ass kicke and I may go to jail!!!!!

I am not the biggest Aaron Murry fan on the field – but I am proud of the accomplishments in life. I never heard of him ever getting in trouble and to have graduated in 3 years in certainly remarkable. (If though he was red shirted – he still graduated early). Sports is a religion that some of you worship and the players are your gods. They are human and they make mistakes. Monday came and we went to work and for those of us who did not bet money, the game had 0 impact on the day. Please get a life. Prayers to the family.

I do pray for AM’s Dad..But Am did not find out until the Sunday after the game the night before..So his play was not affected by the news he did not konw about. He just played the way he always plays against big time teams=LIKE CRAP> CMR sat down Hudson Mason so there would not be a QB controversy during a season where CMR is onthe hotseat. Am does not have to worry about someone beating him out during the season as does the rest of the team. He does not have to perform to keep his job as QB. Thats crazy! PUT MASON IN AS QB VS KY and see what happens. Am cant see over the line of scrimmage at 5′10″..AM rattles to easily. AND FIRE COACH RICHT, his heart is not in the football game. I have been telling folks that since 2004. Does not know clock management or how to surround himself with quality coaching. Coach Will Friend our Ol coach get soutcoached each week. I cant just go on bashing the coaches. It grows so old watching our ENTIRE STAFF GET OUTCOACHED IN BIG GAMES! AND AM, HE HAS NOT DONT ANYTHING AGIANST TOP 25 OPPONENTS ONR HAS CMR! SELAH

In all seriousness, religion is for the weak-minded.
I agree that football is just a sport and there are much bigger issues in life than winning a game.
But religion isn’t one of them.
I know it gives people hope, etc., especially when they are confused or intimidated by the natural world (such as cancer).
Love for a family member has no bounds, and I appreciate what Aaron is going through and wish him the best.
At the same time, I question the notion of excusing CMR’s incompetence because of his religious zealotry when the reality is he was a much better ball coach before he got distracted by all the religious nonsense. The churchy sideshow is killing the football program and all the idiots are saying, “well we can’t win a bowl game, but he sure does love Jesus . . .” Ironic, isn’t it?

Praying for Murray family. There are things in life that supersede a win or loss on the football field and this young man is going through one of those things. He doesn’t deserve to be slammed in a moment like this…give him a break. As for the loss on Saturday, yeah it stings, but it is a football game not the end of the world. These players deserve better than to have their home vandalized and have members of the fan base write them off. I support the Dawgs win or lose and believe in this team. GO DAWGS!!!

T don’t care for the Dogs cause I am a Vol, but I am sorry . You guys have had one bad game, have one lost, you just got behind and the landslide was on. Good luck with your ball playing and I am sure Peyton use to get booed in Knoxville. Don’t worry, A.B. Nobody is judging for the ALL CAPS.
And you are probably right.
I haven’t seen enough of Mason to know how he might handle a pressure situation in a big game, but I know A.M. has a big arm and not a lot of moxy to go with it.
Regardless of how he finishes the year, he should be a high-first round draft pick in the midget league. Then we can find out how great he is when he isn’t on the recieving end of Bobo’s insanely stupid play calling.
