Spurrier: ‘They can’t say they own us anymore, that’s for sure’

WHAT THEY SAID AFTER SOUTH CAROLINA’S 35-7 WIN OVER GEORGIA

“Obviously this was a special one … beating three years in a row a school that used to own you. They can’t say they own us anymore, that’s for sure.”

— South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier on the Gamecocks’ first three-game winning streak in the history of the Georgia-South Carolina series, which UGA leads 46-17-2

“This was actually my 250th overall win as a coach [including college, NFL and USFL], and having it against the Georgia Bulldogs is special, too. That’s a team that used to beat my alma mater [Florida] very well. I’ve been fortunate as a coach against them, not so much as a player, but as a coach.”

– Spurrier, 15-5 as a coach against Georgia (11-1 with Florida and 4-4 with South Carolina)

“Like I told the guys, ‘The bad news is we took a whipping, but the good news is that we all took it together.’ I don’t think anyone could look in the mirror and say, ‘I had a great day, but the other boys didn’t.’ … We got beat by a very good team that was primed and ready to go.”

— Georgia coach Mark Richt

“It stings. We felt like we had a great rhythm offensively going on in the first five games. … [South Carolina has] a very talented defense all over the board. They’re up there with the best I’ve ever played.”

— Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray after the Bulldogs, who averaged 48.2 points per game in the first five, were held to one touchdown against South Carolina (that with less than two minutes remaining)

“This was the greatest atmosphere I’ve ever played in.”

— South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw

“He was pretty much reading me. If I got up field, he was going to take off running. … He made plays with his feet, and he was fast, faster than I thought he was.”

— Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones on Shaw, who had 78 yards rushing on 14 carries

“I think we did a good job tonight. That was our goal — to come out here and put pressure on [Murray] and cause a lot of conflict with the offensive line. … [Georgia’s] offensive line gave away when they were going to hike the ball, so I got a good jump on it.”

— South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney

“We just made a lot of bonehead mistakes. Giving up big plays, jumping offsides, turning the ball over — we can’t do things like that and win ballgames. … It was just lack of focus on our part. When that happens, it’s easy for a team to make a big play, and that’s what they did.”

— Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings

“They had us on our heels all night. You’ve got to give that defense credit.”

– Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo

“We gave up two touchdowns right off the bat on explosive plays. You can’t do that. … Give them credit. We dug ourselves a hole.”

— Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham

“I think our stadium was probably the loudest in the country today.”

– Spurrier

Brad Scott isn’t coaching Carolina anymore. In the here and now, Georgia has dropped three straight to the coach who is 15-5 against them. Call it what you want, but Spurrier owns Georgia, and as long as he’s in Columbia, Georgia is owned.

Mark Richt- we got our butts whipped?

Are you serious, common sense didn’t tell you to prepare yourself for this kind of game. Why is it every top 10 team we play we never look ready to even give them some kind of competition. And every year its the same weak a*s excuse. Booooo man fire your offensive coordinator for starters and step your game up!
Just my 2 cents
Go Dawgs!

This has happened all too often in the Richt regime. The Dawgs come into a big game with an opportunity to play for even bigger things at the end of the year and they come into the game totally unprepared to play and without any intensity. I have given up on CMR. We will never compete for national titles as long as he is in charge of the football program. There is too much talent on that team and in this state for him not to put a competitive top 5 (top 10 at least) team on the field that is in the hunt for a national title yearly. With the Gators seemingly getting back on track, we have the look of a middle-of-the-pack team in the SEC East once again. So much for getting to the SEC championship game undefeated thanks to an easier schedule.

I don`t want to take credit from the Gamecocks but its hard for me to say how good they may actully be . Georgia played like a team unprepared and that is on the coaching . I`m not saying anyone should be fired but a change is in great need . A 2-15 record against ranked teams since 2008 is not performing when you have 4 and 5 star players. Also, I think it is wrong the way Richard Samuel and Ken Malcome have been treated.

Many here are calling Richt classy While he may be a good Christian, classy he ain’t.

After one of you boneheads egged Murrays house your classy hero says. ” Well it happens, you just have to turn the other cheek.” paraphrasing there.

Now we find out Murray’s Dad is in surgery this morning battling cancer. And the above is the attitude Me. Classy takes when defending his players and QB.

Not only are some of you some of the dumbest to walk the face of this planet, you are also idiots!

Now, those of you who are actually men, say a prayer for Aaron Murray’s dad. of course some of you boneheads won’t even do that with class.

old dog told y’all before the season got started that our o-line would be exposed by the better teams. We look good against the patsies, but against S.C. we got torn up like a dollar-watch on the spin cycle. Until we get a top-tier o-line it will continue. Everybody bragged on the line until Saturday, but remember…..WE HAD NOT PLAYED ANYBODY! If one (thats 1) person out there thinks we have an SEC caliber o-line, then you have never watched, played, or seriously studied football. Yes, other facets failed, but S.C. (and Spurrier) would whip our tails again next week if we played, and then again the week afterward. This post has nothing to do with calling for a coaches head due to one loss, etc. But we ARE NOT a top-tier team, and up front is where it starts! S.C. exposed us, boys………………

Mark Richt, is there any good news after this 35-7 division loss that puts you 2 games behind South Carolina?
Yes, the good news is, UGA lost together.

How is that good news?
Well, defense, offense, and special teams all played terrible.

But, how is that good news?
Well, the defense can’t blame the offense, the offense can’t blame the defense, and special teams can’t blame either.

I don’t understand, you’re saying all 3 phases played terrible and that’s good news?
Yes, because all 3 phases played terrible in the same game.

So, ff the offense had played well, and the defense and special teams poorly, there wouldn’t be any good news?
Yes, that’s correct, because UGA wouldn’t have lost all 3 phases.

This is for Sanders Commings…I have heard the phrase “lack of focus” until I am sick of it.

Lack of focus??? LACK OF FOCUS??? This was the biggest friggin’ game of the ENTIRE YEAR!!!

And you say the defense, which played like a bunch of first year high schoolers, just had a lack of focus?

I’ll tell what I think. I think you and the rest of the secondary, and especially Rambo are “focused” on the NFL and NOT this team or what needs to be done to win. I’m beginning to think your performance in the Tenn game was just bad luck for Tyler Bray, and not your defensive effort. We played better with your replacements than we are now.

You guys bagged it when we got behind and went in down 21 at the half. I’d rather let the younger guys play and let them get lots of experience for next season.

At least they’ll give 100 % and be “focused” on what they need to do to learn th game.

Shameful. Embarassing and shameful.

All Richt is focused on is going to a Bowl Game and if somewhere along the way they win the Eastern Conference then thats an added bonus.
This all comes down to getting more revenue for Georgia and McGarity has not given CMR an ultimatum to,win a SEC Championship.
Not X’s and O’s but dollars and cents.
This is the samething that happened to the Braves……..REVENUE!
As long as McGarity isnt pressured by the Alumni’s or the Booster Club or by anyone else that supports the school, McGarity isnt gonna take action.
We can scream and yell all we want but he could care less what you or anyone else feels about where the program is heading as long as Richt is productive going to bowl games.
Being a Div. 1-A School means big bucks and as long as they fill the stadium up and recieve large sums of revenues from the media…….nothing is going to change.
I looked up the top 20 Defensive/Offensive Coaches in college football and both Grantham and Bobo dont even come close to being there.

Gotta give Spurrier credit. Getting our guys to jump offside on 4th and 1 at his own 20 with his team up by four TDs was as hilarious and embarrassing a play as I’ll ever see from any Georgia team. He did that for only one reason. He wanted to show the world just how undisciplined and stupid our guys are.

The problem with UGA is that they think they are Alabama or USC. When it all comes down to it they dont have the talent that other schools do and cant stand up to their size. Its time for UGA fans to realize what their school is and thats a 9-10 win school at best and an SEC Championship every so often.

Must’ve been one heck of a prayer meeting after the game asking for help in removing the awful stink from the team. The irony is that Tenn was beginning to pound their chests bemoaning how close they were to victory if only they had made a few more defensive or offensive plays. Tenn was thinking they were on the road to being back after coming close to victory over a top 10 ranked GA. Now the Vols are down in the dumps again seeing what a lousy GA team actually beat them. SC is going to be ugly when the Vols play them.

Obviously this scenario when we play a top 10 team will never change. Were just going to have to be happy with 9-10 wins a season and 2 or 3 loses against the big boys. The SEC always has 4 or 5 teams that standout among the rest and we can hardly beat a single one of them. And that’s the way it is in Bulldog country, like it or not.

And to everyone who hates Spurrier, that is exactly what he wants out us Dog fans. But I don’t hate him at all. He is one of the best coaches that CFB has ever seen, and if you all can’t see that, you are all crazy. I would take him in a New York minute over CMR or any other coach. he has great calls and he rubs it in real good when he get’s the chance. He’s not some church choir boy who plays it safe and backs off. He steps on the gas and runs you over. that’s what we need.

Ahem, Nebraska, etc. Even either SC or FL will be history in 12 days. Let’s focus on the rest of the season and not the ass kicking a few days ago. I for one am not jumping overboard (yet)!!!

Bread fan,
Spurrier will always hate UGa because we decapitated him and the Gators during his Heisman run in the late 60’s. That butt kicking was light years worse than anything he has ever laid on the Dawgs. In fact, I don’t remember ever seeing such a domination by a defense….not even this past Saturday night. It cost FL their first NC and Spurrier was totally humiliated on national tv when there weren’t 10-15 games on at the same time. That is why he hates GA so much…..thanks Erk Russell for the memory!

I still like the way Spurrier coaches, he has fire and spunk and he’ll call a play even if it is a cheap shot, like drawing us offsides on his own twenty on 4th and one. Or throwing a long TD on 4th down in his own territory, remember that one when Fla came to our town? That’s the type of coaching we need. Do what you have to do to win (within the rules of the sport) with NO REMORSE! We are so soft it’s pathetic.

SC definitly had the best team. They also had a double dose of HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. The stadium was louder than any I’ve heard lately. All the audibles that Murray calls at the line were useless, which caused mass confusion and the offense died. This was all the edge they needed to put a whoopin on the Dawgs. My point is I hope ALL of Bulldog Nation will remember the noise factor at Williams Brice Stadium this year when the Gamecocks come to Athens next year. We have to be so loud that they can’t even think or function. What goes around comes around. GO BULLDOGS !
