Georgia coach Mark Richt plays part in commercials for ESPN’s College GameDay

Have you seen the new ESPN commercials that feature Georgia coach Mark Richt? He flew out to Los Angeles this past summer to tape them. Apparently the idea was to build something around Richt’s annual tradition of taking the team to the Ramsey Center Natatorium on a practice day and showing off for the team with his backward flip off the 10-meter platform.

What do you think of the ESPN commercials with Georgia coach Mark Richt?

Richt shot the commercials with members of the ESPN GameDay crew, including former Bulldog David Pollack, Desmond Howard and Chris Fowler.  In the scenes, Richt is more of a bit player rather a featured player. Lee Corso is the “star.” But they’re funny it’s certainly good publicity for Georgia that they thought to include Richt.

Let me know what you think of them. . . .

Diving boards are 1 meter and three meter. Corso just went off the 3 meter board. Richt goes off the 10 meter platform (not board).

a better gameday promo idea: have the last 5 UGA football players arrested do a dance routine with their arresting officers outside Sanford and Son Stadium…psy gangnam style…now, that would be funny…and appropriate…

Some folks at AJC and UGA need to do some work on their meter to yards to feet conversions – 30 meters would be a whopper and more than dangerous – Not even done in the Olympics – obviously the AJC Sports folk did not turn-in the Olympics.

My god people. Give it a F#&$ing Rest already. Every single day you are on these blogs fire richt, fire bobo, fire richt twice. HE IS THE COACH NOW AND FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. And to be perfectly honest I am glad. HE IS A GOOD COACH! HE IS A BETTER MAN! No he is not Nick Saban, but who is, other than Nick Saban. Who exactly would you people rather have. Kirby (I dont really coach my own defense) Smart. Please. Richt has had more sucess than any coach other than Dooley, and while I love coach Dooley he wouldnt cut it in this day and age. And Richt has done it at a higher level than any other coach we have EVER had in a time when the SEC is better than its ever been. College football for that matter is tougher to win than its ever been. Do I agree with everything he has done all the time, no I dont. Have there been times when I wondered what they were thinking, yes there have. But dont yall have something better to do with your life? We are 5-0 with a enormous game this weekend and all you can say is fire Richt. Go cheer for the gators or tech, or anybody but UGA. You make me f’n sick. get out of your moms basement and get a life douche bags. And by the way………..GOOOOOOOO DAWGS SIC”EM

Let’s see…. Richt has been an SEC coach for twelve years and still has a 75% winning record. When you take out the coaches with only one or two seasons under their belt, he is in the top 10 winningest active coaches. When you look at head coaches around ten years or longer, he becomes fourth on that list. His winning percentgage is better than Nick Saban.

The rest of the list:

*Seven out of Eleven seasons with greater than 10 wins.
*Three Sugar Bowl Appearances with two wins
*Two SEC Championships
*Five SEC Division Championships
*Currently halfway into the season and undefeated

Throw in that he’s a great asset to our community as well and I’ll keep him around for as long as he wants to be here.

Chip, I suggest that you check your facts before you state and RESTATE them. This was not a big deal at all until you argued with previous poster. Olympic platform diving consists of diving off a platform 10 meters high. that is approximately 33 feet give or take. Are you still going to state that Richt dives off of a 30 meter platform? I am sure that the AD would have serisou issues with this. Can you please tell us where the 30 meter platform is? Would love to see it for myself.

Rationale

Sunny, would you please let everyone know which team you actually support? We all know it is not UGA. CMR has without a doubt had his years when things did not actually go right, but that does not mean he did not try to “Offer” scholarships to those kids that were quality players. Some kids turn out to be more coachable players than others. Crowell, who is evidently is not very coachable by anyone, was a lose/lose situation. We lost by signing him, and CMR would have been roundly criticized if he had not been able to sign him. Crowell was the problem, not CMR.
CMR is great with kids that actually come to UGA to become better players and better men. His first few years were spectacular. Then, for a couple of years the kids did not turn out very well, and there was not as much to work with. He seems to have the team back on track.
You say “He certainly won’t be remembered for his 3rd rate coaching.” You are right, he won’t, because he is not a 3rd rate coach. He is a top of the line coach, of whom most universities would love to have him, and I for one, am glad UGA has him as the head coach of this football team.

Gameday results for UGA (according to Locations of College Gameday wiki).

1995 – Lost at UT
1998 – Lost to UT
1999 – Lost to Florida in Jacksonville
2002 – Won at Alabama
2003 – Lost at LSU
2004 – Won at South Carolina
2004 – Lost at Auburn
2005 – Lost to Florida in Jacksonville
2007 – Won at Alabama
2008 – Lost to Alabama
2011 – Lost to LSU (SEC Championship game)

As one can see, UGA has not fared well on GameDay. Most of that can be attributed to the fact that as a whole .. UGA has not fared well against highly ranked opponents under Mark Richt.

Richt is a great guy and has done a great job of beating teams he is supposed to beat (like GaTech), but UGA has not pulled many upsets under Richt and at one point last year we were 0 for our last 11 against ranked opponents according to a graphic shown during a game.

Like him or not, you have to admit we have stunk against top opponents for the last 6-7 years. For that matter, going all the way back to Dooley it can safely be said the Dawgs have been underwhelming against top 10 competition. That is why so many people just do not see UGA as a top team. The harsh reality is other top football programs have at least had some stretches of success against top 10 opponents .. UGA has never had a prolonged stretch of that kind of success in my lifetime.

Don’t hate me for stating the truth. I love the Dawgs and I always have, but it’s the truth.

@sunny cluster, frank and dolla meathead,
Loganville Guy @11:51 left one thing out about CMR……Richt is number one (second to none) in coaching players who have won the Allstate Community Service Award. UGa is also the #1 college in history with 14 recipients of this prestigious award. If you guys are not aware of this recognition it would not surprise me because you seem to be significantly out of touch and bored with your GT site.

Steve,
And is your point that UGa is due a win???? The odds would say that to anyone who has a “clue”!!! P.S. Based on your logic…..looks like on GameDay UGa has won 100% of the time they have played South Carolina…..WOW!!! I sure hope GameDay will be at the SEC Championship again this year because we have won 67% of our games against Bama when GameDay was there for those games.

Good points, really good points and we thank Steve (aka. Mr. Negativity) for bringing it to our attention that UGa has a 75% winning record vs. Bama and SC on GameDay.

Basically they stole the idea of the old man making a perfect dive from a movie years ago. Had a famous comedian play the part but I can’t remember the name of the movie or the comedian off hand. Usually when Richt does something like this people say “why” because he is making millions of dollars and they say he should be coaching and not doing outside activities for a paycheck. What they don’t know is that he donates that money to charities that he supports. He is not one to brag about such things.
