About South Carolina

Record: 5-0 (3-0 SEC)

Last time played: South Carolina won 45-42 in Athens last season, scoring three touchdowns off Georgia turnovers and another on a fake punt.

On offense: Tailback Marcus Lattimore ran for 358 yards on 64 carries against Georgia the past two seasons, 182 on 37 as a freshman and 176 on 27 last season. He returned this season after missing the final six games last year with a knee injury. … Dual-threat quarterback Connor Shaw, from Flowery Branch, is 12-1 as the Gamecocks’ starter. He has completed 78 percent of his passes (50 of 64) for an average of 142.8 yards per game this season. He completed his final 20 passes against Missouri. He also has averaged 50.8 rushing yards per game.

On defense: The Gamecocks have allowed 11.2 points per game, sixth best among FBS teams, and 77.6 rushing yards per game, seventh best nationally. They rank second in the nation in sacks with 22, including seven vs. Kentucky last week. Their ends, 6-foot-6 Jadeveon Clowney and 6-8 Devin Taylor, have 5.5 and 1.5 sacks, respectively.

On special teams: Senior Adam Yates is 3-for-4 on field goals (long of 38 yards) and, unlike his Georgia counterpart, perfect on extra points (22-for-22).

What you should know: South Carolina has won its past two games against Georgia, its past nine games overall (dating to last season) and its past 11 games against SEC East opponents (dating to 2010). The Gamecocks have never won three in a row against Georgia.

Coach: Steve Spurrier is in his 23rd season as a college head coach (202-75-2) and his eighth at South Carolina (60-35). He has a 14-5 career coaching record vs. Georgia, 3-4 while at South Carolina and 11-1 while at Florida.

I am most worried about Theus. He will need help in slowing down their ends. I think we will see a lot of dives and screens; expect Gurshall’s ypc to drop this game, but that may not be a bad thing as long as we can continue to get first downs (rest our D, keep theirs on the field). I think this game stays close until the fourth quarter when the tired defense gives way to multiple TD drives. I hope that SC is the one with the tired D, but I honestly don’t know.

Our defense against your offense is a wash. Our offense is better than your defense. We have better coaching by far. We are at home. We will win a very close game!! Go Gamecocks!!

Expect a great game! Both Coaches have very different public personalities but can’t argue with the success each of them has leading their teams over the years. Spurrier is much more “love – hate” kind of guy…when he was coaching FL and beating SC by 50 points or more some years I can assure you Gamecocks were not loving him too much then….He’s kind of like the attack dog (pun intended) – no one likes it until when he’s protecting you!

Losing Bennett is bad but not fatal. Last year it would have been close to fatal because Brown was still recovering from his injuries and Wooten was down. This year we have a running game and all of our receivers are contributing. It’ll be interesting to see who takes up the slack.
Slowing their DE’s is a matter of running right at them. How tall you are makes no difference when someone is blocking you head on. We need to see how well they shed blocks when the play is coming right at them. We do not want to give them time to make plays pursuing from the backside. I want Bobo to take it to them hard. Both are speed rushers so we need to test how strongly they are going to play the run and force them to think run first. Maybe we can get them to break containment trying to make the big play. But I’d run it right at them until they stop it.

Load up & stop the run. Conner Shaw won’t beat you with his arm. That way we can control the clock. Murray you will have them in your face So please protect the ball. He may have to run a little more. Our dawgs have alot to play for. Bennett just added to that. TE’s will make a big difference in this game !! We are the under dog !!!!!! LET THE BIG DAWG EAT

Georgia’s running backs can run but can they BLOCK??? I think they will have big trouble picking up blocks which will cost UGAG the game.

For me, this is the 1st real test. Yes Mizzou was a come from behind game but that is not USC at home with Spurrier/Shaw/Lattimore/Clowney. Mizzou was pumped and at home, that’s why they were dangerous, not because they were anywhere near as good as UGA. USC is a legit team, with legit playmakers, witha legit coach, at home.

Dawgs, win or lose, will prove something.

If UGA does not win a National Title this year then they will not with Mark Richt.

You should consider Bobby Petrino.

I love my Dawgs but the Gamecocks are going to win this one. They are just to powerful and Clowney and Taylor are going to knock the skinny jeans off of Murray.
