What they said after Georgia-Tennessee game

“We were hit by a freight train early in the game, but we were able to fight back and get back into it. We went toe-to-toe with a top-10 team that will be competing for a national championship.”

– Tennessee coach Derek Dooley

“We knew they were going to be special players. How special was up in the air. But right now, through five games, they’re two of the best backs not only in the SEC but in the whole country.”

– Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray on freshman tailbacks Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley, who ran for 164 and 130 yards, respectively, against Tennessee

“They are really fantastic players. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.”

Georgia coach Mark Richt on Marshall and Gurley, who scored two and three touchdowns, respectively, vs. the Vols

“Our goal at the beginning of the year was to be the best tandem in America, running backs and fullbacks. I don’t think we’re there yet, but I think if we keep pushing we can be there.”

– Marshall

“They had some rust, no doubt, but you can’t replace their athleticism and their ability to make plays. I’m glad we got them back and they got the rust out. Hopefully next week they’ll be even better.”

– Richt on linebacker Alec Ogletree and safety Bacarri Rambo, who led the Bulldogs with 14 and nine tackles, respectively, in their return from four-game suspensions

“It was tough [serving the suspension], but I’m a team player and have been supporting the guys and practicing like I was going to play each week.”

– Ogletree

“This game reminds me a lot of the South Carolina game last year, but the difference is we found a way to win it this year. So that’s a credit to the players improving their mental toughness and finding a way to stick together and make plays when you’ve got to.”

– UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham

“I saw the ball well and was able to get there in time. It’s always great to help the team, especially late in the game.”

– UGA cornerback Sanders Commings, who intercepted two passes in the game’s final six minutes

“We were a little sloppy in the first half, giving away points. But this team … is a bunch of fighters.”

– Murray

“It may give me a heart attack, but I love having adversity and seeing how your guys respond. You don’t want it easy all the time. You want those guys to have to answer. How are you going to respond when you make a mistake? I thought Aaron Murray and [Keith Marshall] did a good job coming back after turnovers.”

– UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo

“Our coaches told us it was going to be a hard game. We didn’t know it was going to be like this, but we got the win.”

– Gurley

“We are leaving here a better team than when we got here.”

– Tennessee’s Dooley

As a Dawg fan I don’t know what to take out of this victory. Yes, The offense looks unstoppable at times until they stop themselves. The defence?…reminds me too much of the S. Carolina game of last year only this time we won. Last year we gift wrapped 20 pts against SC much the same as tonight. Maybe all teams have a game like this in them during the season I don’t know. Maybe they are looking forward to SC. But I do know one thing, the Dawgs of this tallent better choose to show up next week and play a complete game or they will get beat. I’m hoping that the defence improves much the same as they did last year after starting the season giving up a lot of yards and points as well. I’m still not convinced as to how good this team really is but I do know they are better than the performance they showed tonight!…I gotta feeling that they will get off the bus next weekend more focussed and ready to play………Go Dawgs

The dawgs have a lot of good in their favor too…..@ good tail backs, a very good group of recievers, and the OL seems better than expected. Our kicking really scares me though. Not the coverage, just kicking. Hopefully this is one o those games Danielson spoke of that every team has every year and we at least won. Anyone remember Ala vs SC a couple years ago, UGA SC last year, Auburn SC last year?…And all the upsets this year?….I, for some reason think the Dawgs, on the road will be more focussed and over the hype

I live in Knoxville. Believe me, they are licking their chops up here! I really don’t blame them and hope they have some terrific success the rest of the way! I’m a DAWG fan but for Dooley and the Vol team, I was proud for them the way they hung in there til the end. The game was in doubt until the last 2 minutes.

What surprised me the most was the way the Vols ran on the DAWGS! I felt that Gurshall could get the job done but not that good! The Vol offensive line did a great job against the DAWG D-line. They had almost 200 yards rushing. The score would have been much different except for the DAWG turnovers…..something that I hope is fixed before they journey to Columbia. The cocks are waiting. GO DAWGS!!

Another Classy Bama fan with nothing better to do then trash another school’s blog while watching his team.

Georgia has some work to do; the defense actually might be more talented than Bama’s this year. But what Georgia doesn’t do that Bama does is play with the same focus and intensity every week.

That’s a credit to Alabama’s Coaching Staff…

With this said, I wouldn’t get to cocky… Georgia, Florida and South Carolina all look like they’ll give the Western Champion quite a game in the dome. And while LSU hasn’t look so good early, I wouldn book my reservations yet son…

Good luck – hopefully, we’ll see you in Atlanta.

Our not-so-special teams could cost us big time before this season ends. Did anyone catch Richt’s comment last week about Dawgs in the NFL ? Apparently Blair Walsh has got it all together , to which CMR commented :”Guess somebody straightened him out . A very telling remark , as apparently no one on CMR’s staff has a clue about coaching kickers , as our guy Capt. Morgan must be aiming for the uprights…… We need a Special Teams coach in the worst way . Does anyone know how many SEC teams have a Spec Teams Coach ?

Our defense gave up 23 pts, our offense gave up 21 points…. Thank God for Gurshall and our ability to hang 51 on TN.

UGA faced adversity and didnt fold. FL faced adversity and didnt fold. SC faced adversity (against Vandy and Kentucky) and didnt fold. LSU faced adversity and didnt fold. No matter how good a team is, nobody goes through the entire season without facing a tough game or two.

USC and Stanford faced adversity and folded up like cheap tents. Oregon is only 4pts up at the half against an unranked Wash St. Team, we shall see if they fold. Lets see what happens when AL faces adversity later in the year (I predict A&M, LSU, and *maybe* Msstate will all play Bama close. Nobody is unveatable, nobody.

Nobody is unbeatable. 5-0 Dawgs! Next

Vol 4 Life — Be proud of your team. I thought UGA would win by 21 and maybe more after the 1st qtr. Dooley has them playing with poise and composure, and they almost gave me a heart attack. Best of luck for the rest of the season. I’ll certainly be rooting for you. You guys are close, and I know moral victories are hard to swallow. I for one, believe the SEC East is much more fun with UGA, Florida and Tenn. all strong, ranked and fighting it out over the season. If your AD is patient, I think Dooley will get you there.

I agree, Tennessee played quite well. That Bray is a heck of a QB. We have, I believe, a more talented team, but we were lucky to escape with the win.

Almost every championship team has ugly wins, and lucky wins – but let’s not count on more luck. Fixing the obvious problems has got be be the priority this coming week, and I’m sure our coaches are aware of most of them.

However, what our coaches seem to never get is that we play a lot less well when the coaches take their foot off the accelerator, and play to avoid losing. We need to always play like we need 20 more points as soon as possible. Not reckless. Not desperate. But, please, quit with the hang onto the lead nonsense. It’s not that we should run up the score. It’s that we’re not good enough to coast to a win.

We need to play aggressively every quarter, and I think not doing so is our coaches fault. If they don’t change whatever they have to change in having that stupid mindset, it’s going to cost us a game or two.

Great to get the win….the O rolled just that 1 bad toss by Murray. But….if our objective is to win the east…the D better tighten up. Personally….I dont like the 3-4 scheme…conditioning was upgraded last year but I’m not seeing it this year. Also…our DBs need to look back for the ball when its thrown. I did not see that problem as much in this game…but it was there in previous games.
Bottom line…the D better crank it up or SC is going to hand it to us.

If you consider that UGA gave away points on turnovers and bad special teams play, the score makes sense. They played very well on offense and defense. The little mistakes are what made the score close. Vegas had the spread right. Without those few mistakes, the score would have been 51-23.

I’m happy any time they get a win, especially against SEC teams. Learn from this week and go prepare for SC. Go Dawgs!

The Good, The Bad, The Ugle in UGA VS TENN 2012

THE GOOD
UGA shows they have the talent to be a top team
The fans including student body were ready for Tennessee Game
UGA GETS THE W

THE BAD
Defensive line got manhandled again
Defensive linebacks are to small
The 3/4 has yet to work for UGA vs quality teams / quality offensive lines
Grantham has yet to stop a team which is better than average
Aaron Murray dropping ball again while being tackled ( is his hands to small to hold ball?? )
Special Teams
No depth on defense
Recievers dropping passes
Reciever gets excited on short 3rd down pass, shows out, we still have to punt — IDIOT RECV’R

THE UGLY
UGA campus tailgating is non existent today killing any excitement or energy for game day / Adams Sux
The color Orange

Miscellaneous:
Congratulations to Derek Dooley for preparing a undermaned Tennessee team and dang near beating UGA AT HOME
COULD THE FORCED REMOVABLE OF MICHAEL ADAMS BE LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR DEREK DOOLEY TO ONE DAY WALK AS UGA HEAD COACH????

Guys, this game wasn’t this close! If UGA doesn’t turnover the ball 21 points are erased from the board.

The momentum in the first half changed when Malcolm Mitchell screwed up the kick return and put our offense in the hole. Gurley did the same thing by stepping out of bounds. These are easy fixes, but we need a dedicated ST coach to sort this out.

Bottom line: UGA shot itself in the foot at least 5 times in this game and we still came away with a victory. That’s the sign of a good and tough team!

You can’t convince me that this team was not looking ahead after we jumped on Tennessee so fast.
You can say if this and if that and the score would be X… But the reality is what has been said a few times…this team won. The team we had last year would have lost.
I am sure the bad decisions on the punts and KO will be alleviated. My concerns are how that Tennessee offensive line opened holes against our guys – I fully realize we couldn’t fill the box because of a stellar passing offense. And to be sure this might be the best passing team we face. Their tackles were awesome. And secondly, I was very disappointed that we could not do a better job running the ball when we HAD to run it off our goal line.
But, I am happy we had this game now, not next week. Great film to study.
Now, to ground everyone…look at the scores of the teams ahead of us and look at who those teams played…just looking at the scores, not impressed. I mean maybe it was like us against Vandy. Easily could have hung 60 on them…and be thankful you are not an Arkansas fan!!! Oh man how bad is that???
Overall, I feel better with this group after that game going into next week.
