Georgia’s Oct. 6 football game at South Carolina will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN, the SEC announced today.
Georgia is ranked No. 5 and South Carolina No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press media and USA Today coaches’ polls. Both teams are 4-0.
On Saturday, Georgia plays Tennessee in Athens (3:30 p.m. on CBS) and South Carolina plays at Kentucky.
The 3:30 p.m. game on CBS on Oct. 6 will be LSU-at-Florida. LSU is ranked No. 3 and Florida No. 11 in this week’s AP poll; the Gators are No. 12 in the coaches’ poll. Both teams are 4-0.
In other UGA football news today, tailback Todd Gurley was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for his performance against Vanderbilt. Gurley ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns, his third 100-yard rushing performance in four college games. He leads the SEC in rushing (101.5 yards per game), scoring (10.5 points per game) and all-purpose yards (164.2 per game).

No complaints here.
Would much rather listen to nessler and blackledge call a game than lundquist and danielson. nessler and blackledge are the best in the biz. enjoy verne’s voice, but danielson’s unoriginal statements and poor calls on controversial plays are sometimes too much to take.
The UF/LSU game at 3:30 deserved the prime spot. Will be both team’s 1st game on CBS.

I don’t really think the UGA vs USC game will be close. Based on the Vandy game (We won by 45; you won by 4 and had to pay the refs to not make a pass intereference call, to hang on). Looks like the DAWGS win by 41 in a cakewalk.

Don’t look past TN. They can be dangerous with Bray behind center. And don’t even go there with comparing past games. Sure, we beat Vandy worse than SC, but SC held Franklin and MO to 10 points and it wasn’t even that close. Connor Shaw will be a problem and I don’t want to think about it until after the TN game. Just block, takle and hold on to the ball and we should be fine. Start off with our hair on fire and finish strong. Our schedule gets a lot harder from here on out.
By the way, the TN blogs are sayig they feel good about passing against UGA’s secondary and will be at full Rocky Top song……

Tennessee not in the ballpark this season, line playing better each game, Vandy with stunts gave SC all they could handle, although at home, SC has good defense, but GA has too much balance, too many weapons and a defense of their own, close till 4th quarter, RBs will tear hunks off in 2nd half with Murray hitting all over the field and Mitchell playing more snaps, they have nobody to cover him opening a stretch over middle for Bennett and a vastly improved and dangerous #15 along with King. TEs concentrate and not get too jacked so they catch the ball, plenty of room available in SCs scheme for damage there too. Lke to see Rome get more passes his way, needs to block better but hard to cover him with LBs. Undefeated going into Fl Im thinkin.

In quite a few SEC games Gary Danielson’s preparation is so thorough that he calls decisive offensive or defensive plays before the snap, and gets them right. I think both teams (Lundquist/Danielson and Nessler/Blackledge) are excellent, but I give the nod to Danielson based on seeming clairvoyance about what’s fixing to happen.

All you have to do is look at the L.S.U. game and you can see just about anyone in the SEC can beat anther SEC teams on a given day , especially if the favored team is looking ahead like L.S.U. was with the Florida game in two weeks.
Georgia needs to stay focused on the Tennessee game like they did against Vanderbilt. One game at a time. South Carolina will be here soon enough.

Most teams other than LSwho or bama would drop farther from the 3 spot with a 12-10 win over an unranked team like Awbarn! Let us hope we play our best against UT and win so can hopefully pay back SC with a win. They were good enough to take what we gave them last year in Athens and do not confuse VU close game with them because they will both play like the MNC against us. Also the main focus is UT with their close game against Akron. UT thinking about UGA maybe? UGA fan happy to be back in USA from India! Sic em dawgs!!

Even when the Cocks had the best season they ever had (4 losses) 2 years ago and went to the SEC title by default, if Ealey doesn’t fumble at the goaline, we would have had a 2pt conversion to possible tie that game in Columbia back when Aaron Murray was still a baby with no one good to throw the ball to…Then we gave then we gave them last year as we all know. That was the day everbody and they daddy wanted Richt fired (He’s won 14 straight regular season games since then by the way). So the only way South Carolina (who’s not as good as they were last year) can beat us is if we help them beat us. I’d be more concerned about UF. But for now, we just need to focus on Tenn and take care of our house. Im out…GO DAWGS!

Lattimore will be shut down for majority for game, still not running 100%…but is one of fav SEC players to watch. Will have a few good runs. But Connor will be running for his life…and have regular meetings with Rambo, Ogletree, Herrera, and Williams. His shoulder will be the least of his problems after all that.
USC defense will give a good fight, but not enough to win the game. But I do like that lil guy returning kicks/punts. Dude is fast!! Will be difficult to tackle.

Game will be close and Carolina’s stadium will be rocking with a night game. Which ever QB plays better will win the game and both are coming off great games this past saturday. Clowney chasing Murray and Jones chasing Shaw is about a wash as are the 2 running games. Just a hunch but I think UGA wins 27-23 and holding on late.

Loyal Dawg…the reason UGA isn’t as talked about is this….a lot of people think that UGA is over-rated. You probably won’t be considered a legit top 5 team until you beat TN, FL and SC. Buffalo and FAU are bad football teams (and UGA didn’t look that good against them anyway), Vandy is back to being Vandy, and Missouri is looking more and more like a pretty average football team. When UGA beats a ranked team, then people will start talking more about you.

Well, all UGA had to do was beat TN…and not lose to a SC team that didn’t even have enough wins to qualify for a bowl game.
Bottom line…if you were a SC fan, you would be complaining too. UGA has had two years where they don’t have to play Bama, SC or Ark. Everybody knows that the SEC schedule is set by the league office….and UGA will be in a better position at the end of the year because of it. You might be right about UF, time will tell. I just think USC is pretty solid this year. I think UF’s play has been sloppy. And I agree we don’t get any respect. It might have something to do with tanking in 2008.
Jawga,
Your arguement about not beating anyone ranked, ok that might work. But what about UF? UT isn’t ranked right now, so why all the love? You can’t honestly tell me UF has had an impressive win? The media built up the A&M game and raved about the environment they went into, they raved UT is finally back….(crickets), they talked how they’re D dominated a weakass UK team without their starting QB. Am I missing something?

I don’t dislike UGA but I get tired of their whining fans complain about how they are always mistreated. Trust me they have earned their lack of respect and until they win something without folding it will continue. This might be the year they do it, Gurley is the best back I have seen in the SEC since Hershel and that is including Lattimore and Emmit.

I just hope Coace Grantham puts Jarvis Jones on Lattimore on every move he makes and Everytime he touches the ball is like him running into a brick wall. The Dogs owe Steve Spurrier one and there is no better time yo cash in than Oct. sixth. I am glad for an offensive line that is better than I originally thought. As far as the East goes….I agree that the East looks better…and that’s because of Florida. Everyone knew UGA and SC would be good. Florida looks better than most thought. However, Miss St is better as well on the West side. At the end of the day, I don’t think it matters anyway. I don’t see any team from the East being able to beat Bama. I think the SEC East is stronger than the West this year so all the complainers about Georgia’s schedule needs to STHU.
Everybody who has followed Mettenberger knows that he can not play very well under pressure. Don’t give him much time to pass and L.S.U. can get beat. They still have a great defense but there is a way of stopping their offense. Arkansas will lose 5 or 6 games this year. Mississippi State may be the surprise of the West , we will see. That only leaves Alabama who is great this year but the East Champion will have to play them in the SEC Championship game. So, how will Georgia avoid playing just about everybody in the SEC who is somebody this year. If Georgia wins the EAST and they beat Alabama in the West for the Championship they would have earned every bit the chance for the National Title try.

Clearly SC and Coach Superior wanted the game at night in Columbia…so guess what? Of course that’s what they got. The Tennessee game won’t be easy and if we should happen to lose it it’ll make the SC game that much more important. Regardless, this Georgia team is showing us something that we haven’t seen in quite a while. Like many of UGA fans I think this one could go all the way if, as they say, they remain focused and not get cocky…we’ll leave that to the team that’s so into that attitude, they even use it for a nickname/mascot/ball coach. hard to say UF is over-rated. the fact that UF has played 2 road games in hostile environments as an underdog and won speaks greater to who UF is than 95% of the teams in the country thus far. Majority of teams have played 3 home games and at least 2 of them were “cream-puffs.”
UF looks to have the toughest schedule in the country.
#3 LSU
#4 FSU
#5 UGA
#6 SC
Will the above teams all be rated as high when UF plays them, probably not…but on paper and on September 24th, that’s easily the hardest schedule in the country

UGA looks very strong this year on both sides of the ball. I think it will be a very exciting game. I saw a couple of absurd posts stating Lattimore is overrated, so here are his stats against UGA:
Lattimore vs. UGA

2011 27 carries for 176 yards for 1 TD

All I have to say people….UGA eathered the storm we were in the last couple years and are going to reap the blessing from being strong. The next 5-6 years are UGA’s. They will be in the top 5 in the nation every year among the elite and will be playing for the NC…maybe a year earlier than anticipated…just like going to the SEC Championship game last year a year earlier than expected….its good to be a Bulldog fan…..One game at a time. Bring Bama on….with the UGA defense come the end of the year being incredibly strong and even up with Bama’s….its anybody’s game……then look at the offenses and it is very winnable. A year experience in last years game will be a tremendous help and with the leadership on offense and defense this year…..aint nobody scared of NOBODY…..NOBODY….

The 7 o clock start in Columbia gives South Carolina a little bit of advantage, as night game home teams on average win by more points than during day games. But that is from a professional bookie statements this a.m.
Either way, I think the bigger question is going to be is how CMR and his staff keep his kids focused after a big beat down of Vandy, and a big date with USC in two weeks without overlooking the scoring ability of Tennessee? I have no doubt UGA will put up 30 on The Vols, but the question of injuries and not playing hard against Tennessee can put players out of the Gamecock game if they do not stay focused.
The Tennessee game whether UGA fans like it or not is a trap game, and we have all seen Freshmen hit that “brickwall” at some point during their freshmen year and when does that happen if it does to some of these stud young Georgia Pups who have played lights out?

However, you might want to ease up just a bit on your enthusiasm of just how good your team really is….you have beaten two cupcakes (ugly wins), a Missouri team that now looks average at best, and a Vandy team that has returned to typical Vandy form. Now, if you beat TN, FL and SC, then the talking heads will take you more seriously. But until you actually beat a good ranked team, everybody is going to yawn when the subject of UGA comes up.

My point about ranked teams was directed at those UGA fans that have begun stating that they are the best team in the SEC…or that UGA is getting enough respect…or that UGA isn’t being talked about…My answer to that is you have to beat somebody first…some good ranked team. Rambo will be back this week, which will allow Commings to play corner, which is his best position. His height will be needed against Tennessee’s big receivers. Ogletree has good cover skills for a linebacker and can man up on Rivera. I wish Georgia had two guys with Commings’ height (6′2) in the secondary but the important thing is that Commings and the other corners (Smith, Mitchell or Swann) don’t give up the deep ball to Hunter and Patterson. I believe we will completely swallow up their running game though. They still don’t have a solid running back

I’m just glad Tree and Rambo have 1 game against TN to shake the rust off before we face the chicks. IF we can win out there is no way we’d be kept out of the NCG. We’d have wins over a #6 SC team, #1 Alabama Team, and a FL team that will be ranked much higher at the time of their game against UGA than they will be when they meet FSU. If Oregon, UGA, and FSU are all undefeated I think Oregon gets a nod and I just don’t see the BCS system rewarding FSU for 1 win against a #10 Clemson (who will have lost to SC as well by the end of the season). The Bulldogs are in complete control of their own destiny and it feels great

Pazian…you better hope the rust doesn’t effect the game against TN. TN has weapons, and can win if the Dawgs are thinking about SC.
And yes…if UGA wins all of their games they will go undefeated and play for it…but have you seen Bama play? I don’t see anybody beating them.

@huh — I agree with you. The thing that makes me nervous about the TN game is the fact that Rambo and Tree will probably be a little rusty. We’ve already seen a bit of rust this season as our starters have slowly returned to form. I think UGA has the talent and should beat TN but nothing in CFB, especially the SEC, is a given. As for Alabama, you’re right it would certainly take UGA’s best effort and then some to topple the tide. That being said, it can be done. If our offence plays its best game the vaunted Bama D will receive its best test of the year.
@Paizan — wow, my 2nd post ever on this blog and I’ve already earned an impersonator

@joe — LOL, I was thinking the same thing about the Chickens. Imagine, for a second, if the Oregon ducks and USC Chickens go undefeated. If the title game is Donald Duck vs Foghorn Leghorn…. who do you put money on? Tough call LOL
– regarding us looking ahead to SC…. I think the reason most GA fans are looking ahead on this particular thread is because the article itself is about the SC Game. I’m pretty sure our coaches won’t let the team overlook TN.

Good for Gurley, hope the young man stays healthy, he’s got a bright future. For all you fellow Dawgs counting your chickens before they hatch, I’m not sold yet. We have a solid team but our kicking game has holes, our secondary hasn’t been as stingy as it will need to be, and I’ve seen to many collapses the last five years to feel comfortable with Richt and company just yet. We’re one play away from having to play a QB with zero experience. Stay humble and hope for the best. Maybe this will be the year.

Why so much discussion about who has the best “west” schedule. Ole Miss is probably better than Arkansas…….and LSU was not the least impressive against Auburn and squeaked-out a 12-10 win. Looks like a push to me, but only time will tell. P.S. Wasn’t it a lousy Auburn team that ruined SC’s season……and UGa blew them out of Sanford Stadium.

ESPN the dominator. They alwys get what they want. Nothing is ever done for the people who pay for the tickets, because ESPN wants what they want when they want it. There would be double the audience if it were a three=thirty PM game. Just to be frank about the situation, I hate the ESPN, Always have and always will. Better yet explain why such a huge Georgia fan who had been posting constantly for days up until the Dawgs beat the crap out of vandy has been in hiding until now. It would seem like even a moderate Georgia fan would have been here to congratulate his team.
Enough with the we and us stuff pee wee. You are not now nor have you ever been a Georgia fan. You are a sad little troll with no life and some pathetic notion that you can “undermine” UGA with your crafty secret identity. A few pointers for your next fake identity. Tampa Gator, all three teams from the East did what they needed to do last Saturday, won big. It’s shaping up to be a great race to the SECCG. I give the overall nod talent wise to the Dawgs but UF, and Spurrier have the psychological advantage over UGA, and we have the scheduling advantage. I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out and wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a surprise or two. I think the Gators and the Chickens deserve tremendous respect.

Tenn. and only tenn. should be on UGA’s mind. Play them one at a time.
Auburn lost a Graduate Asst. Coach- age 23- only a few hours b/4 their game with LSU and perhaps that had more than a little to do with how they played. One would hope so, at any rate. Prayers with the family and team.
Mizzou and Vandy both had all year to prepare for UGA and USC, and both played an opening SEC game at home. Throw the comparisons out; they are meaningless.

Huh, my point is that after what u rant about does not happen and the dawgs do play to there potential you should acknowledge that and then say what else we need to do! I have been disappointed in the dawgs over the last 4 years but last years comeback of winning 10 games in a row and the obviously better leadership this year has truly given us a reason to cheer! By the way continually referencing drinking the kool-aid is in reference to the Jonestown Massacre in which people sold out and bought fully into a religious Zealot! When I talk up my beloved Dawgs, I want us to win. We are in the best conference and are either 2-5 best team. If we beat SC then I would say we are the 2 best! If not I will say to you SC is better and we need work! When we win Saturday and next week, I just ask that you acknowledge the worth of this team! But until we prove it, I understand your skepticism!

Funny story on Gurley. This summer, when we are all starved for college football we were debating this and that after the scrimmage reports. As we were pontificating, one of our experts was ready to crown Gurley the starting TB after the first scrimmage or so because he was averaging 10+ yards per carry. I thought I was being cute when I told him not to get excited–if Gurley averages (I’ll say 10, but it was somewhere around there) yards per carry, I guarantee you the coaches will make him the first string TB. Dawg-gone if Gurley isn’t averaging close to 10 yards a carry after the first four games! Turns out we were both right, Gurley was the number 1 TB and the coaches realized his ability after averaging a ridiculous ypc average. He is definitely a keeper. Go Dawgs.

One difference between Hershel Walker and Gurley is that Walker had to touch the ball 25-40 times per game to get the yardage he accumulated. I’ve never seen two backs have the impact that Gurley and Marshall have had. I would be interested to see what Gurley could do if he had to tote the load Walker toted (Hershel right, Hershel left, Hershel up the middle). Defenses can’t key on those two guys due to all the weapons UGA has. If the line keeps blocking and receivers keep catching and Murray keeps playing better than any QB in UGA history….this will be a year for records. But, if they lose a game, don’t get too down on them. Undefeated in the SEC is an accomplishment in itself. Even Bama didn’t go undefeated last year.
