Georgia-South Carolina game time set; Gurley honored

Georgia’s Oct. 6 football game at South Carolina will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN,  the SEC announced today.

Georgia is ranked No. 5 and South Carolina No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press media and USA Today coaches’ polls. Both teams are 4-0.

On Saturday, Georgia plays Tennessee in Athens (3:30 p.m. on CBS) and South Carolina plays at Kentucky.

The 3:30 p.m. game on CBS on Oct. 6 will be LSU-at-Florida.  LSU is ranked No. 3 and Florida No. 11 in this week’s AP poll; the Gators are No. 12 in the coaches’ poll. Both teams are 4-0.

In other UGA football news today, tailback Todd Gurley was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for his performance against Vanderbilt. Gurley ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns, his third 100-yard rushing performance in four college games. He leads the SEC in rushing (101.5 yards per game), scoring (10.5 points per game) and all-purpose yards (164.2 per game).

The 7 o clock start in Columbia gives South Carolina a little bit of advantage, as night game home teams on average win by more points than during day games. But that is from a professional bookie statements this a.m.

Either way, I think the bigger question is going to be is how CMR and his staff keep his kids focused after a big beat down of Vandy, and a big date with USC in two weeks without overlooking the scoring ability of Tennessee? I have no doubt UGA will put up 30 on The Vols, but the question of injuries and not playing hard against Tennessee can put players out of the Gamecock game if they do not stay focused.

The Tennessee game whether UGA fans like it or not is a trap game, and we have all seen Freshmen hit that “brickwall” at some point during their freshmen year and when does that happen if it does to some of these stud young Georgia Pups who have played lights out?

Gcocks win big in a blowout Columbia. UGA’s o-line will be no match for SC’s D-line. Plus Spurrier will out coach CMR again. I just can’t see this one being close.

The Poodles ended last season with 2 losses (including to the Big 10 runner up), and now wins against Buffalo, Missouri, Florida Atlantic and Vandy have some of their fans talking about an undefeated season and winning the national championship? If they weren’t Georgia fans, you’d almost feel sorry for them, knowing how they’re gonna get their innocent lil’ hearts broken yet again.

UGA fans….I understand your optimism. Your team is 4-0 and it’s a good feeling. Enjoy it.

However, you might want to ease up just a bit on your enthusiasm of just how good your team really is….you have beaten two cupcakes (ugly wins), a Missouri team that now looks average at best, and a Vandy team that has returned to typical Vandy form. Now, if you beat TN, FL and SC, then the talking heads will take you more seriously. But until you actually beat a good ranked team, everybody is going to yawn when the subject of UGA comes up.

One game at a time… Let’s concentrate on the Vols. They play us very close in Athens.. Play good O with >2 TO’s & solid D like second halves this season & we’ll come out with a W..

Looking forward to seeing our secondary with a full compliment of players.. Have to pressure Bray into ‘happy feet’ & shutdown their running game..

We’ll be OK, but let’s not look past this Saturday afternoon!

Go Dawgs!

Attack u Dawg: As an Atlanta native and with family, cousins, wife etc all going to GA I have always pulled for GA. I ended going to USC playing tennis and pull for both. The older I get the more my impression of many GA fans is you think you are on the same level as Alabama. While GA is an above average program and whose history is better than Carolinas, get you head out of your *^&^ predicting a 40 point plus win at Carolina you moron

ARDawg…again, if you don’t care about respect, then my comment shouldn’t bother you. I’m not even sure why you continue to do so.

It has been stated on the AJC blogs, by several UGA fans, that UGA needs more respect in order to get a higher ranking. Now, I have been clear to state that all you have to do is win all of your games, and the ranking will come….many UGA fans have disagreed.

I’m not sure if you are just looking to argue with me or what. We seem to bascially be saying the same thing on this issue. I think it’s just a case of reading a blog that was not directed at you, and wanting to have something to say about it. I guess next time, I will say “UGA fans, except ARDawg” Would that be better?

I fully understand your point but his team has a killer instinct like I’ve never seen in a CMR coached team and I truly think its coming from Grantham.Did you see Cornelius Bennett pushing his teamate around Saturday for getting or the field to slow..This team not only is more talented but I think they are in a different mind set. When Todd Grantham was asked why he has his starters on field when Georgia was up by 40 points his answer was “Vanderbilt still had it’s starters on the field” He was not allowing a touchdown not matter what.Just what I wanted to hear.

Joey…are you new to this site? Or do you only read your own blogs? I have said many many times who my team is…ask WDE…or CHDawg…or many others…

My point about ranked teams was directed at those UGA fans that have begun stating that they are the best team in the SEC…or that UGA is getting enough respect…or that UGA isn’t being talked about…My answer to that is you have to beat somebody first…some good ranked team. Bama and LSU don’t have to…they played for the Championship last year, and have earned the benefit of the doubt.

I’m not arguing with you. I am agreeing to a point. I don’t care about respect. But, much of what those others state is true to a large degree. I don’t care and I know what they say and they do care. To each their own, you know?

IMHO, we are ranked maybe even higher than we deserve at this point. I don’t put as much into the rankings as many others (including you) do. Rankings are only a yardstick and not a very good one.

I told you earlier, I toss it out there for public consumption. Take, little, none or all of it. Makes me no difference. Many on these boards I don’t even read their posts. In fact just a selected bunch. If I am reading yours AND respond, feel honored.

I’m sure UGA fans would’ve given a Big 12 team tons of credit for beating Mizzou in years past. Now that Mizzou has joined the SEC, suddenly it’s a signature win for the Dawgs. As for the rest of the schedule, beating Vandy only means you’re not the worst team in the East, and Buffalo and FAU only matter if you’re in the hunt for a MAC or Sun Belt conference championship.

You have repeatedly harped, just today, Who has UGA beaten that is ranked? Have you not? Who has Bama beaten that is ranked?. There is no logical in that argument. If a team played and barely lost to 4 top ranked teams at this point, where would they be? That’s correct, 0-4 and unranked.

UL Monroe knocked off a grossly over ranked Arkansas, Should they be ranked? It’s just stuff and background noise and a bad yardstick

It not a lack of sportsmanship by not allowing Vanderbilt to score. Its playing the game until the final whistle blows..If Grantham were the OC they would have scored 60 points. The year after Georgia had the end zone celabration against Florida they were up by 30 near the end of the and Urban Myer was still passing the ball trying to score.I had no problem with it.

Rambo will be back this week, which will allow Commings to play corner, which is his best position. His height will be needed against Tennessee’s big receivers. Ogletree has good cover skills for a linebacker and can man up on Rivera. I wish Georgia had two guys with Commings’ height (6′2) in the secondary but the important thing is that Commings and the other corners (Smith, Mitchell or Swann) don’t give up the deep ball to Hunter and Patterson. I believe we will completely swallow up their running game though. They still don’t have a solid running back

You are obviously a hater or someone who is drinking the Kool Aid… Georgia could very well lose to the chickens, but it’s not going to be a blowout. We weren’t blown out in any game against them since Richt has been the coach. I don’t know if you’ve seen Gurley run this year, but he is much better than any of our running backs from last year.

SC is working and playing for bigger things this year than any big #’s for individual players. go ahead Dawg fans, kid your self into thinking this will be an easy UGA victory. I walked into Sanford stadium last year desiring a big SC victory, but once I saw the crowd, the noise, the atmosphere, i knew the best I could hope for was ANY kind of victory.
