Georgia-South Carolina game time set; Gurley honored

Georgia’s Oct. 6 football game at South Carolina will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN,  the SEC announced today.

Georgia is ranked No. 5 and South Carolina No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press media and USA Today coaches’ polls. Both teams are 4-0.

On Saturday, Georgia plays Tennessee in Athens (3:30 p.m. on CBS) and South Carolina plays at Kentucky.

The 3:30 p.m. game on CBS on Oct. 6 will be LSU-at-Florida.  LSU is ranked No. 3 and Florida No. 11 in this week’s AP poll; the Gators are No. 12 in the coaches’ poll. Both teams are 4-0.

In other UGA football news today, tailback Todd Gurley was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for his performance against Vanderbilt. Gurley ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns, his third 100-yard rushing performance in four college games. He leads the SEC in rushing (101.5 yards per game), scoring (10.5 points per game) and all-purpose yards (164.2 per game).

@Huh? Your welcome and I shouldn’t have kidded you about it…but let me clarify something in your last post…UGA is not “avoiding” anyone we play the teams on our schedule as its presented to us by the SEC..can we beat those teams I don’t know but I’d love to find out.. but so far in the early going the SEC east looks a lot stronger than the experts thought at the start of the year.

There is certainly a lot of hate on here today. I guess I will enjoy it until it is pointed at us the last week in October.

Didn’t we beat you at your house last year? What does Auburn have to do with it? We are better this year than last. We have a QB and a Defense that is shut down. Side note: Doesn’t Ga always WANT to shut the HBCs mouth? Wanting to and doing it are two different things. He will even the series this year at 4 wins and 4 losses while at SC. Go COCKS!!!!!

Rick James…I agree with you that TN’s running game is bad. However…they are very good as pass blocking. Tyler a sitting duck? Don’t think so.

UGA will win the game, because TN’s defense is bad…really bad.

I have been looking forward to this game for a year and unless the dogs do so0mething stupid at Knowville it should be a great one. I just hope Coace Grantham puts Jarvis Jones on Lattimore on every move he makes and Everytime he touches the ball is like him running into a brick wall. The Dogs owe Steve Spurrier one and there is no better time yo cash in than Oct. sixth. I am glad for an offensive line that is better than I originally thought. Two freshmen running backs that are two of the best in the country. It has been over thirty years since a national championship so why not 2012.

WDE…When I used the word “avoiding” I didn’t mean that UGA has anything to do with setting their league schedule. I have pretty clearly, I believe, stated that league games are set by the SEC office. I just meant that UGA gets to avoid those teams…as in they don’t have to play them.

As far as the East goes….I agree that the East looks better…and that’s because of Florida. Everyone knew UGA and SC would be good. Florida looks better than most thought. However, Miss St is better as well on the West side. At the end of the day, I don’t think it matters anyway. I don’t see any team from the East being able to beat Bama. And no, I’m not an Alabama fan.

————————————————————————————————————————————-
Now I honestly didnt read you post because 2007 means nothing to me..I did bring last year because Spurrier whined about that he lost the east was due to Georgia’s not the fact that he could beat a not so good Auburn at home.He also grinned about playing Georgia early in the season because he could always count on players being suspended. It wont be that way this year..And I also that that unlike last year this is a better more balanced Georgia team.I didnt whine nor brag about anything Georgia did last year.I also said that SC stuggled with Vandy who Georggia blew out by 45 points and the Georgia’s team will have that on its mind..Why do you find that so insulting?

Going for it was 100% the right call. I would rather try to get 10 inches then rely on our terrible defense to prevent a TD. Unfortunately we have a QB who calls one play and runs another for some reason. We should have gone for it on 4th and 1 in regulation also with 2:00 left.

What halfway decent team has UGA beaten? Their opponents so far this year are 5-10 and none of them have a winning record. You play one average team (Florida) and one good team (SC) the rest of the season. The rest is pretty much exhibition games. If you beat SC by 40 I will gladly give you guys props.

GT Bob, you are correct, ya’ll should have gone for the 4th down last possession in regulation. At worst you miss it, give up about 30 yards and they score with a little time left on the clock. Your defense wasn’t going to stop them anyway. Better chance that your offense gets the yard than your defense stops anyone….Paul Johnson chokes in the crunch….

Then the talking heads are morons. Sorry, but a team like ours should be able to get 10 inches whenever we want and we had maybe a 10% chance of Miami not scoring a touch down when they got the ball back. It would have made no sense at all to kick it there. As far as Tevin goes, he is a smart kid, just not football smart.

I think the SEC East is stronger than the West this year so all the complainers about Georgia’s schedule needs to STHU.
Everybody who has followed Mettenberger knows that he can not play very well under pressure. Don’t give him much time to pass and L.S.U. can get beat. They still have a great defense but there is a way of stopping their offense. Arkansas will lose 5 or 6 games this year. Mississippi State may be the surprise of the West , we will see. That only leaves Alabama who is great this year but the East Champion will have to play them in the SEC Championship game. So, how will Georgia avoid playing just about everybody in the SEC who is somebody this year. If Georgia wins the EAST and they beat Alabama in the West for the Championship they would have earned every bit the chance for the National Title try.

Murray is playing a hole lot better and our running game is damn show better. Oh yeah I’m saying it, Gurley is a better runing back right now that latimore this season. Trust me this is a different team. It could get ugly, if yall think that shaw can compete with Murray yall are mistaken.
