What they said after Georgia’s rout of Vanderbilt

“I think our guys really wanted this one bad. They didn’t feel very good about how things went a year ago [in a 33-28 win at Vanderbilt]. They know that we very easily could have lost that game, and [if so] all that 10 wins in a row and all that SEC Eastern Division championship and all that kind of stuff would have been down the drain. Our special teams were embarassed the way they played [at Vandy last year]. … And if [punter Drew] Butler doesn’t … make a tackle [after a late blocked punt], it would have been really a catastrophe. I don’t think anybody liked it. I didn’t like it; our coaches didn’t like it; our players didn’t like it. We wanted to prove we’re better than that.”

— Georgia coach Mark Richt after Saturday’s 48-3 rout of Vanderbilt

“Every ball I caught tonight hit me right between the numbers. It was kind of crazy. [Quarterback Aaron Murray] was just on.”

— Georgia wide receiver Tavarres King, who caught four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown

“I felt like we played the most complete game since I’ve been here — offensively, defensively and special teams.”

— King, a fifth-year senior

“I saw him start to fall, and a dude came to hit him. And then he gave him an awesome stiff arm. That was the coolest stiff arm I’ve ever seen in person. I can’t wait to go back and watch it on film. He’s a great running back, and I love watching him run. It’s an honor to block for him.”

— Georgia offensive guard Dallas Lee on tailback Todd Gurley’s 29-yard third-quarter touchdown run on which the freshman broke four tackles, including stiff-arming a safety to the ground

“We were going to go out there and, you know, have a group hug and then everybody’s going to go their way and move on. They coach them hard, they play hard, and they’re trying to be competitive. So we’re all competitive, and we shook hands and moved on and it’s over with. They’re trying to do things right, and we’re trying to do things right. So it’s time to move on from it.”

— Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on his postgame handshake with Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, a briefer and calmer ending than last year’s shouting match between the two

“Well, that’s good. They should shake hands.”

— Richt

“I have to give credit to Georgia. They are a very good football team and are ranked in the top five in the nation for a reason. I think the difference in the game was played up front, especially with their offensive line. They did a really good job of running the ball with power and forced us to load the box, which opened up the passing game on the outside.”

— Franklin

“That was probably the most impressive stat to me in the game.”

— Richt on both of Georgia’s freshman tailbacks averaging over eight yards per carry (Keith Marshall 8.2 and Gurley 8.1)

“Georgia has two very talented backs. They had a lot of help up front, and both are hard to tackle. … Their offensive line pushed us around a lot.”

— Vanderbilt linebacker Chase Garnham

“I think that was the motivating factor, outside of it being an SEC game. There was some bad blood last year between us, and we wanted to make those guys pay for what they did last year. And we did, so…”

— Georgia defensive back Sanders Commings on how last year’s contentious game motivated the Bulldogs this time

Pj………..AO & BR coming back is going to be fun to watch against UT. Our depth at lb should be of a concern to any team we play from here on out.

to many holes in the 4th quarter…. when i started seeing vandy with several 15 yard runs i got scared knowing we must do better against that in 2 weeks.

btw guys how can you fair catch a punt, get tackled and it not be a personal foul?

I agree that it was not against a ranked opponent, but it was thorough! I was also concerned with their several good runs. That was the only real flaw in the Dawgs last night. Murray, Gurley, Marshall, and our receivers are to be dealt with and I haven’t gotten to the defense yet. Prior to the season, we all had concerns about our offensive line. It seems that perceived problem is solved. Our coaches are doing a bang up job! Vols are next and it isn’t going to be quite as easy.

UGA WILL DESTROY A VERY POOR TENNESSEE TEAM SATURDAY. THE VOLS & DOOLEY ARE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS KENTUCKY—–PERHAPS WORSE?

DOOLEY HAS YET TO BEAT A TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD. THIS WILL “COST HIM” HIS JOB AS VOL FANS WANT HIM OUT. HE HAS YET TO PROVE HIS WORTH.

UGA SHOULD SERVE THE UGA PLAYERS “MILLER LITES” AS THEY DESTROY TENNESSEE WITH EASE. UGA COULD TAKE THE WEEK OFF AND SERVE “BIRTHDAY CAKE” AND BEAT THE VOLS WITH ONE HAND BEHIND THEIR BACK.

DOOLEY IS A HORRIBLE COACH.

As far as the runs by Vandy, Zac Stacy is no joke. Truth is, he was all they had but he’s a good RB nonetheless. Even though they havent won many SEC games lately they have been close several times recently. A beat down like this though can have a lasting effect for a while. Especially when you are beginning to believe you are making progress. GO DAWGS!!!

My favorite take so far is from a video interview with Jarvis Jones. “We could have played better. We’re going to look at the film and see how we can do better. We’ve got to keep playing better….etc.” That’s leadership. That’s focus. That’s the work this team seems to be putting in on offense and defense and special teams. It is a high quality team, that looks well coached, and that is “dialed in” or at least was this week.

We heard a lot of criticism of the offensive line, especially Theus, in past weeks. Theus had no penalties and looked very good. This line looks a heck of a lot better than last years version, even with the high drafts missing. With the continued development, I think we can beat any team we play with our “A” game (and that includes post-season).

@Sergeant Joe…not sure which team you’re a fan of, but yes UGA did beat an unranked team. Exactly what should happen. Alabama beat an unranked team and Tech lost to an unranked team…go figure.

OOOOHHHH! So this is what it takes for us to come out Guns-A-Blazing!!! Thanks Coach Franklin!!! We played with a chip on our shoulders which is unlike our other 3 games. Hopefully CMR and CTG can find more ways to motivate our guys through the meat of our schedule. Can someone find out if Coach D. Dooley has said anything, maybe we can ask his daddy…

I love this team. It might be Richt’s best team. All 3 phases were!! O-line played lights out. Dallas Lee and Chris Burnett pulled and were all over in the perimeter. Dawgs under the radar:
Rhett McGowan was impressed. He looks like a playmaker.
Blake Sailor… looks like key on him on ST.

Bring on the Vols!… run the ball down their throat!

It’s amazing how a dominating win makes all the sad little trolls hide. Where is 5150 0r gtbob or blackout? why isn’t that new “fan” of Georgia joe jenkins here to talk about how “we” won but are actually the worst team in the top 25?

I really hate to say this HERE, but they pile on like a monkey on a broke down truck load of banana’s when we are down, But Tech people have gotta know by now that loading up that Tech roster with Western Carolina types is coming home to roost. Miami is horrible and won with just better athletes.
Tech can not beat a good football team. OUCH.

Its better to beat an unranked team than to lose to an unranked team. Ask Arkansas. So what is your point Sgt Fried day.

Sgt’s Point is that Georiga has spent 7 years losing all the big games. We win a meaningless game and everyone freaks out as if we beat Bama yesterday. Our biggest win in so long is agiainst Vandy??? We’ve become so desperate we’ll grasp at anything to claim supremacy. We want it so bad. I want it so bad. I’ve wanted it so bad for so long. But this is just like Georgia fans to turn a win ovcer Vandy into something it’s not. Seriously, no insult here, just calling it like it is.

I meant to call you out. The so-called “trolls” are not rtrolls they’re real Georgia fans. I’m not hiding anywhere. There you go proving my point, “A donminating win….”over Vandy!!! Listen to yourself!

Dawg Heaven has a point. Knee jerk reactions r us. It’s never as good as it seems or as bad as it seems.

That being said, many years and many games have come and gone where Dawgs dont soundly whip teams they should…ala bammer. We are not used to seeing domination even when we should.

To me, this team still has the look of a 10-2 bunch, Fast, talented ans skilled but also soft and young in key areas. Time will tell.

By the way, GTBob is a riot. He seems pretty witty to me and I enjoy reading his chain yanking posts.

This has been stated before but weren’t Auburn and Georgia Tech ranked last year when we beat them!!!!!! Let’s say the truth we have lost to higher ranked teams! Go dawgs! By the way when you play a bad ten beat them down!!!!!
