Richt’s Sunday call: talking Tennessee and more

A few quick notes from Mark Richt’s weekly conference call this evening:

  • Safety Shawn Williams thought he pulled a hamstring while stretching in warmups before Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt,  “but it was more of a spasm,” Richt said. “It just kind of tightened up on him and kind of shook him up. … It turned out it wasn’t [pulled], thankfully. I’m not saying it didn’t bother him throughout the game … but he played the majority of the game.”
  • Familiar question, familiar answer. “We’ll figure it out in pregame warmup, I guess, just like last week,” Richt said to the obligatory inquiry about whether suspended defensive stars Alec Ogletree and Bacarri Rambo will return, as expected, from four-game suspensions this week.
  • “I don’t think it’s serious,” Richt said of the ankle injury that forced defensive end Abry Jones from the game Saturday.  But Richt pointed out that he had not yet received an update from the medical staff.
  • Next up for Georgia: Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium. Richt on Tennessee’s offense: “They’re throwing and catching it extremely well, and their run game is starting to come around, too.  … They want balance in their attack, but it’s hard to have balance when you’ve got the kind of receivers they’ve got. You want to throw the ball, and you want to throw it down the field. You want to take some shots because these guys can really go. And they’re not only fast, but they’re tall and they’ve got leaping ability. … It’s hard not to want to throw the football with those guys and a quarterback who can throw it like Tyler Bray.” (Bray has thrown for 1,301 yards in four games this season.  His top receivers have been 6-foot-4 junior Justin Hunter (30 catches for 410 yards) and 6-foot-3 junior-college transfer Cordarrelle Patterson (19 for 259). Patterson was recruited by Georgia before signing with the Vols.)
  • Richt on Patterson: “We knew he was a special player. We wanted him big-time. He just looked like a big-time difference maker, a big playmaker. The fact he’s a couple of years out of high school  [made  him] even more of a threat to come in and make some things happen immediately.”

COMPLETE COVERAGE OF GEORGIA-VANDERBILT GAME:

Game story: No drama this time as Bulldogs rout Vandy 48-3

In the spotlight: Huge night for Aaron Murray

Mark Bradley column: Yeah, it was only Vandy. It also was utter domination by UGA

Be ready Boys, don’t think for a minute that TN can’t beat you. Any team in the SEC can beat any other team on any given day. It’s just the way it is in the SEC.

Don’t let up for second…let’s keep this thing going. Georgia looks like they have the making of something special this year if they don’t let of the gas.

Go Dawgs! This team is fun to watch…their attitude seems different.

I’d be stunned if Tree and Rambo weren’t back for the Tennessee game. That’d be nearly half the season for a 2nd failed marijuana drug test. A good number of schools, like Oregon, for example, would have had these guys back in 2 games, 3 at the absolute latest, for the same offense.

Vols are expecting an upset win. Talk radio in Tennessee believe they can throw on Georgia, and that Florida win in K-ville was a fluke. Amazingly, they are also saying they will win the SEC title in 2013.
I hope Richt doesn’t concern himself with who the Tennessee coach is. UGA needs to win this one real big and score 40+ on the Vols. UT has been a pain when Fulmer was there, and it is time to return the favor. Let’s get ahead in this series over the next five years like we should be.

Most improved area of this team is character. It starts with the two young running backs that know why they are at UGA and appreciate the opportunity and they also reflect leadership shown by people like Richard Samuel. We have finally recruited character and hopefully gotten rid of the trash.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves Dawg fans. UT will still get on the bus and travel to Athens and put up a very good fight for 3 qtr’s and I believe we should pull away at the end. Anything more would be a blessing. They have big, physical guys on both sides of the ball and they’re good athletes. One game at a time and stay completely focussed and we should win another one and gain much needed momentum heading into SC. Go Dawg’s

Film o zmianie? O buncie? “jestes bogiem film” wymyka sie tym etykietkom. To wiarygodny, nasycony obraz rzeczywistosci. Wciagajace kino bez tezy
Wszystko dzieje sie tu naocznie, w biegu, tu i w chwili obecnej.
Potencjal niewyczerpany
Ten mlody kapitalistyczny swiat zdradza chlopaka z blokow. Czy nie taki, metaforyczny sens posiada scena, gdy ekrany sklepowych monitorow zdradzaja go przed wlasna zona, tworzac falszywa sytuacje, ktora bedzie miala tragiczne konsekwencje? Postac Magika zostaje przechwycona. Gubi sie w labiryncie ekranow. Jego lajf przelamuje sie, rozdziela na celebryckie i wlasne. Leszkowi Dawidowi w koncowce filmu udalo sie oddac moment wyobcowania i rozdarcia, gdy uwielbieniu fanow towarzyszy poczucie zdrady wlasnej zony. Magik ma zarazem poczucie mocy, ktorym woli sie podzielic z innymi. “Jestem bogiem/ Uswiadom to sobie/ Slyszysz wyrazu/ od ktorych wlos jezy sie na glowie/ O rany rany/ Jestem niepokonany/ Ha i Pe Ha O Pe/ Bez reszty oddany/ Przejebany/ Potencjal niewyczerpany/ Prawdopodobnie w DNA on byl mi konkretny”

The Orange Pumkins is a basket case program from Phat Phil to Lame Kitten and now Dooley Boy. We will teach them a lesson not to come in state to play Dawgs or trying to steal our recruits. Woa there Pheonix! Too early for that. Of course they can, everyone who still is undefeated can remain that way for the season. It’s really hard to go all the way though. You have to worry about injuries, and as my grandfather said, sometimes, the ball just has to bounce right for you. There will be at least one or two really close games against people other than SC and Bama. We might have a close one against Ky, or Fl when we just don’t play good. Every team has at least one. The outcome of these close games determines how far we go. We have the talent, but we still need a bit of luck too.

They lost by 4 points to the 6TH place team in the nation and to us and to Northwestern who is 4-0 . I prefer to give Georgia the credit for dominating a very good team instead of saying the same old Vanderbilt showed up.

UGA looked the best this year especially Murray and the frosh RB’s and Vandy would have never won. But Vandy killed themselves with early penalties and had a terrible call on a roughing the punter or the game would have been closer than the score. Getting Ogletree back will help but Rambo will be so intent on making a big play thay he might get UT a couple of quick scores. Tn moved the ball on the Gators and if you do not think UF is for real you are crazy. Bray might be a punk, but the kid has talent and has 2 NFL receivers. Don’t be surprised if this is not a nail biter; UGA 44 UT 38 winning late in the game.

Glad to have “Tree” and Bacarii back. Even if they are rusty it will help a lot having 2 more players to add depth in this game. I think our DBs and LBs will be running around a lot with UT’s passing attack. Does anyone know more about Zander? That story has really been quiet and I wonder how we plan to use him now that he is back.

I want to apologize to Bulldawg nation. Last week I predicted the UGA score of 45-10. I had no idea that Rogers would fumble at the endzone and give the ball back to UGA on our 20. If he had scored the final score would have been 48-10….

If you guys have any additional questions about the rest of the season please let me know.

You got the whole thing right!!!!!!!!!!

We (Dawgnation) are feeling really good now but if UGA makes a few fatal mistakes and the ball doesn’t bounce right and God forbid we should lose the game, most of our dawg fans that are still pumped(It was a great game and we are 4 – 0) probably will become the negatives, each with their own version of what happened and who is to blame..

Tenn gave the Gators all they could handle you can bet the farm they will be ready and fact is Vandy self-destructed in the first quarter and had a terrible call by the refs on the roughing the kicker penalty. It was almost embarassing to accept the penalty but…………………………………………..we may get some similar calls against us on Saturday and that COULD be the difference in winning and losing!!!!!!!

Anybody that believes Tenn will be a pushover is pretty misinformed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tennessee has a good team but because of lack of depth they do not have a great team. They are a little worst than we were last year. We will not be able to keep them off the score board but Georgia is for real this year because all those defensive backs decide to come back and because Murray is not acting like the other teams 12TH player like he did in at least 6 games last year. Execution from our skill guys have been extremely good. Our coaching is night and day better than the last few years. If we play Tennessee with the same resolve that we did Vanderbilt Georgia will win this one 42 – 17 and if Jones and company can stay in Bray’s face all day it could be 42-7.

Missoui has a good team , they just are learning that to be able to compete in the SEC you need depth. Missouri will change their recruiting tactic and in 2 to 4 years will be a force in the SEC but not for a few years. If you load up on Offensive stars in the SEC and don’t concentrate or building a great defense all you will do is lose a lot of SEC games 52 to 21, where in the Big -12 they could have won the game 48 to 42.

Playing a night game in Mizzou and opening the conference schedule was quite different than a day game in Columbia. Actually, SC beat Mizzou the same way UGA did. Pulling away in the latter stage of the game. Nothing special about SC but, more proof, Mizzou has no depth.

With Ogletree and Rambo back this coming Sat, Jarvis Jones’ job gets easier. Those two, especially ‘Tree, get in the backfield with regularity that almost match Jones.

Our D was instantly, noticably better when Ogletree started the UF game last year, after recovering from the broken foot, and together with one of the best DBs in the country, Rambo, the D will look much different, and much better this coming Saturday – and just in time.

Nothing brings down a good passing attack like a ball-hawking DB, and a DB-turned-LB, who can drop back in coverage, or sack the QB, with equal adeptness.

The SEC East is no longer “down.” In fact, with questionable QB play at LSU and Arkansas essentially disappearing, the East may be the better of the 2 divisions. Top to bottom.

UGA will be ultimately judged on how they perform against Tenn, SC and FL…Buffalo and FAU are bad football teams…Vandy is back to being Vandy, and Missouri now appears to look like an average football team. We all knew going in that UGA’s schedule is favorable, and UGA would win a bunch of football games because of it. UGA needs to beat all three of the aforementioned teams to be considered legitimate.

Ultimately…nobody is going to be Alabama anyway…but winning the East and at least playing for the SEC title would be a good season.

Trust me, if the voters had had more confidence in UGA in 2007, they would have played for the NC…they didn’t.

Huh?: I haven’t done the research, but what are the records of the teams Alabama beat to get there last year? They really only beat one relevant team that comes to mind last year-Arkansas. Then lost to LSU, with everything on the line. I agree with you the two best teams played for it all last year. There’s no real debate there. I guess my point is this: until there is truly a system, or definite criteria for making it to the BCS NC game, anybody can get into the game, regardless of whom they have/haven’t played, or beaten. That’s the tragedy of the way things are done, and decided.

Huh?

September 24th, 2012
5:09 pm

Alabama Dog…I only said what I said because you commented on UGA winning their last 7 games. I’m sure that the voters took that into consideration….I’m sure they also took into consideration the combined wins of those 7 teams….I’m sure further still that they looked at the fact that UGA got killed against TN and lost to a really bad SC team. Can you remember the last time any team played for a NC after getting beaten by 21 points and also losing to a team that didn’t make a bowl? I sure can’t.

I don’t disagree that a better system is needed. However, I also understand that defining absolute criteria can be more difficult than it might seem. The last thing the decision makers want to do is to create a system where, yet again, the best two teams don’t play for the NC. So, they have decided to not make the rule where you have to win your conference to play for the NC…why? Because they understand how tough some conference are like the SEC…where you can have several really good teams….vs conferences like the PAC10…where you have 1-2 good teams and then a bunch of pretenders. Additionally, you can’t make a rule for every weird thing that might happen. Again…last year was a bit of a fluke.

While it appears that Gurley is the real deal, you Homers seem to forget you were talking NC and Crowell a Heisman most of last year. Just sayin….

Oh Alabama Dog, Bama beat the crap out of UF which you had to come from behind and only beat by 4 points.

Nerd troll, really? Who was? Before or after the 0-2 start? I believe you are mistaken. That was the Nerds talking a championship after going 6-0 and then reality set in

Ardawg before 2 and 3 star filled Boise ate your lunch before a home crowd in Atl. All summer long we heard about how he was being talked to by Hershel and that the Big Dawg was going to kill everyone. Nerd Troll? not hardly, just laughing at the L E G H U M P E R S for the 32nd season in a row.

Nerd Troll….that Boise game was a disappointment but we got over it. Any loss knowing you are the better team is a disappointment. You adjust, you adapt and you move on. How relevant is that game now? You haven’t gotten over it, have you?
