Richt’s Sunday call: talking Tennessee and more
7:29 pm September 23, 2012, by Tim Tucker
A few quick notes from Mark Richt’s weekly conference call this evening:
- Safety Shawn Williams thought he pulled a hamstring while stretching in warmups before Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt, “but it was more of a spasm,” Richt said. “It just kind of tightened up on him and kind of shook him up. … It turned out it wasn’t [pulled], thankfully. I’m not saying it didn’t bother him throughout the game … but he played the majority of the game.”
- Familiar question, familiar answer. “We’ll figure it out in pregame warmup, I guess, just like last week,” Richt said to the obligatory inquiry about whether suspended defensive stars Alec Ogletree and Bacarri Rambo will return, as expected, from four-game suspensions this week.
- “I don’t think it’s serious,” Richt said of the ankle injury that forced defensive end Abry Jones from the game Saturday. But Richt pointed out that he had not yet received an update from the medical staff.
- Next up for Georgia: Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium. Richt on Tennessee’s offense: “They’re throwing and catching it extremely well, and their run game is starting to come around, too. … They want balance in their attack, but it’s hard to have balance when you’ve got the kind of receivers they’ve got. You want to throw the ball, and you want to throw it down the field. You want to take some shots because these guys can really go. And they’re not only fast, but they’re tall and they’ve got leaping ability. … It’s hard not to want to throw the football with those guys and a quarterback who can throw it like Tyler Bray.” (Bray has thrown for 1,301 yards in four games this season. His top receivers have been 6-foot-4 junior Justin Hunter (30 catches for 410 yards) and 6-foot-3 junior-college transfer Cordarrelle Patterson (19 for 259). Patterson was recruited by Georgia before signing with the Vols.)
- Richt on Patterson: “We knew he was a special player. We wanted him big-time. He just looked like a big-time difference maker, a big playmaker. The fact he’s a couple of years out of high school [made him] even more of a threat to come in and make some things happen immediately.”
COMPLETE COVERAGE OF GEORGIA-VANDERBILT GAME:
Game story: No drama this time as Bulldogs rout Vandy 48-3
In the spotlight: Huge night for Aaron Murray
Mark Bradley column: Yeah, it was only Vandy. It also was utter domination by UGA
Quotes: What players, coaches said after the game

Y’all are delusional. Do you realize how much talent Bray, Patterson, Hunter and Zach Rogers have? I know Uga is getting excited and his red rocket is starting to hang out because your program is finally decent again, but let’s not get too carried away. You’ll be another Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.

If they have so much talent why didnt they beat Florida at home? Because they have no running game. Tyler Bray will be a sitting duck for Jarvis Jones..He cant throw while he’s on his back.

One game at a time. Don’t worry about and look ahead at SCar. Columbia is a sorry town and we got some special beat down planned for Visor Boy and his choking chickens. He tried to change rules to cheat Dawgs out a owning East. But first we needs to doing some Orange Pumkin smashing in Athens. That will let us expose talents on Tenn and there stupid Rocky Slop music. Breaking there nose with a hob nailed boot will be fun again on Sat. And then we can worry about displaying dominants on Scar chumps.

Vols stink and goning to take the beating they deserve. Who the Pumkins played and beating? Nobody thats who! Dawgs will unload a whooping can on them like they never seeing before. We will show Vols for thinking Dooley Boy in same league to competes with Coach Richt. Go Dawgs! Sick Em!

Smitty I did. And I know what you are saying. But at the same time did you see the dawgs against Buffalo? We were 100 times better than them but it did not look like it that day. Same could be said about Tenn and Akron. Hard to get up for those games. So you can’t judge the dawgs by the Buffalo game. Just like you can’t judge the vols by the akron game.

And another thing! You bammer boys best remember that we getting rid of Adams this year. Without Adams and his pointy heads we won’t have restrictions choking our recruiting. Then we can sign all the talent and not allow Saban to cross border to tries to steal recruits that Dawgs own.

I know exactly what dawg dude is saying. Look at my tigers saturday. We played a pretty bad auburn team and won by 2 points. Should have killed them but didn’t. Can never take any team lightly. And I would expect this is just tough talk from a few Ga fans. The majority of their fans will not take the tenn game lightly. That would be a mistake.

Vanderbilt is a pretty good team People are saying our blow out win was not a big deal. I think it was. Vanderbilt is 1-3 on the year. They lost by 4 points to the 6TH place team in the nation and to us and to Northwestern who is 4-0 . I prefer to give Georgia the credit for dominating a very good team instead of saying the same old Vanderbilt showed up.

UGA looked the best this year especially Murray and the frosh RB’s and Vandy would have never won. But Vandy killed themselves with early penalties and had a terrible call on a roughing the punter or the game would have been closer than the score. Getting Ogletree back will help but Rambo will be so intent on making a big play thay he might get UT a couple of quick scores. Tn moved the ball on the Gators and if you do not think UF is for real you are crazy. Bray might be a punk, but the kid has talent and has 2 NFL receivers. Don’t be surprised if this is not a nail biter; UGA 44 UT 38 winning late in the game.
