ATHENS — Georgia and its fans got what they paid for and Florida Atlantic got its $1 million check as the Bulldogs rolled over the Owls 56-20 on Saturday night at Sanford Stadium.

The win gets No. 7 Georgia off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2008, when it began the season ranked No. 1. The Bulldogs (1-0 SEC) play host to Vanderbilt (1-2, 0-1) on Saturday.

Georgia simply overwhelmed their Sun Belt Conference visitors with offense. The Bulldogs rolled up a school-record 713 yards — breaking the 1993 record of 667 yards versus Southern Miss — and did it with strong running and passing.

Tailbacks Todd Gurley (111) and Keith Marshall (104) each went over 100 yards rushing — the first freshman pair to do that in a game since Thomas Brown and Danny Ware in 2004 — and quarterback Aaron Murray threw for a career-high 342 yards on 14-of-19 passing. He accounted for four touchdowns — two passing and two rushing — and he moved up to tie Eric Zeier for second on Georgia’s career passing TDs list with 67. David Greene is the all-time leader with 72.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Murray, who left the game late in the third quarter. “You’ve got to give credit to the way we worked this week in practice and the way we’ve been working. Guys have been determined to work their tails off to understand the game plan and what teams do defensively so we can come out and execute. And that’s what we did tonight.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s vaunted defense didn’t look as dominant. Playing without All-America outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, who sat out with a slight groin pull, the Bulldogs gave up 318 yards and 15 first downs. The Owls, who managed only one touchdown in their 7-3 win over Wagner to open the season, tied the score at 14-14 early in the second quarter and converted eight of 12 first downs in the first quarter.

“I was concerned,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “They were legitimately taking that ball and moving it down the field. Their quarterback was very confident, they were throwing and catching the ball and their running backs were good.”

But Georgia shut out the Owls’ offense in the second half and managed to rest most of its starters in the fourth quarter. And not having Jones made an impact.

“Yeah, I think it affected us.,” Richt said. “Guys like Jarvis tend to get you off the field. Knowing Jarvis, he probably would’ve been good for a sack or two.”

Everything wasn’t rosy for Georgia’s offense either. Murray threw an interception in the end zone, backup quarterback Christian LeMay threw a “pick-six” interception and the Bulldogs fumbled three times for the second week in a row, losing two this time. Also, the Bulldogs were penalized eight times after being flagged 12 times a week earlier.

“I didn’t like the turnovers,” Richt said. “There were too many balls on the ground. We’re still not fielding punts and kicks like we should. We have a lot to fix.”

Georgia’s victory came on a night when the school inaugurated — or “collared,” as they like to call it — a new mascot. Russ, the 8-year-old half-brother of Uga VII, was sworn in as Uga IX in a ceremony right before kickoff. Russ had served as interim Uga for 25 games over four seasons after the deaths of Ugas VII and VIII.

Gurley passed the century mark with a 38-yard touchdown run at the 10:18 mark of the third quarter. That gave him 106 yards on nine carries and Georgia a 42-14 lead. At that point Marshall had 104 yards on 10 carries. Gurley has scored a touchdown in all three of his games as a Bulldog and has five touchdowns on the season.

“That’s good right there, both of us getting 100 yards,” said Gurley, who is averaging 92 per game. “If we can do that every game the outcome should always be a win.”

The game featured several career highs for several players. Junior tight end Arthur Lynch scored the first touchdown of his career. He hauled in a Murray pass and went 36 yards, diving and reaching the ball over the pylon. It required an official review to reward him the score. Lynch had a career-best three catches for 73 yards.

A week after catching a career-best eight catches against Missouri, Michael Bennett had a career-high 110 yards receiving on four catches. He had a 67-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter.

Linebacker Amarlo Herrera had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown that made the score 49-14 late in the third quarter. LeMay scored his first career touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter.

Whatever passion Georgia may have lacked in Saturday’s game should return 10-fold against the Commodores. You’ll recall that last year’s game between those teams in Nashville — the Bulldogs won 33-28 — ended with a shouting match between Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and Vandy head coach James Franklin.

“I know we’ll be motivated for that game,” Richt said. “We’ll be ready.”

What I’d like to know, is why wasn’t Mason in the game? I thought that he was the back up QB. If I were him, I would transfer first thing Monday morning. I don’t know what lies Richt’s been telling him, because it’s obvious as the nose on your face, Richt ain’t gonna give the kid a fair shake.

I agree 100%. UGA is not as impressive on defense as they should be and if a good team can stop their running game they will be in trouble, but to be fair I will wait for their Brownie/ Dopers back before we make a complete assessment. They have given up big plays every game so far.

Florida looks pretty darn good, they make too many dumb penalties and it will catch up with them soon if Muschamp does not get them to play smarter.

Tennessee is not going to be a cake walk for anyone that plays them, they have some big talented wideouts and if Bray could have hit some wide open recievers they would have been ahead in the third quarter. The Vol defense needs a good deal of help.

USC, the jury is still out, with their quarterback musical chairs due to injury it is hard to get a read on them and Lattimore has been very very quiet. The Gamecock defense is scary at times with all that speed and talent.

Kentucky is just awful in everything.

Missouri without Franklin is just above average, with little to no defense.

Vanderbilt is the unknown, they played USC very very well, then went on the road and blew up in the fourth quarter against NW. They have some real talent in Nashville, who is going to upset someone this season in SEC play.

Auburn is just awful and if they win a SEC game it will be against Ole Miss who does not play defense either.

LSU even without four more players missing the season are still loaded but they have not played anyone yet. They will beat up Auburn next week and the Crowd at Jordon Hare will be gone with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. LSU will have 300 yards of offense by halftime.

Alabama is so deep, many of those Atlanta Area kids who many on these blogs were saying would never see the field have played very very well, Geno Smith, Dillon Lee, K. Drake, D, Lake…all have played very very well this short season.

Miss. St, is an unknown after seeing Auburn squeak by ULM.

Ole Miss, great play calling on offense, not enough talent, and they have no defense.

Texas A&M is another unknown, but they have a ton of young kids who are playing very well.

The Big 1O Is AWFUL, JUST AWFUL, Up and down the entire league.

The PAC 10 consist of Oregon and Oregon alone, USC had no depth, no defense and no running game.

It is easy to think the worst for the defense after the big chunks of yardage given vs FAU, but I’d like to see them at full strength before drawing too many conclusions.

When a defense is missing 3 or 4 starters every game…it makes it tough to assess. No Rambo, Ogletree, or Jones tonight…keep it real. If FAU moved the ball like that with those guys in…then we should be really concerned.

The Vandy game will be tough, but the real test will be UT because it will be the first common opponent with UF, and hopefully it will be with all cylinders firing on defense.

Our boys aren’t physically strong in the trenches – I notice this last season. I’ve seen Big John Jenkins get push back by Mizzou center and the DL doesn’t deliver a blow in such a manner that they defeats the block or gains position on the blocker in order to quickly penetrate the line of scrimmage. ALA and LSU are very good at this. Mr Richt need to re-evaluate his strength and conditioning and DL coach as well as the OL coach.

As of now, it appear to me that this team is getting by with pure talent. I’m not sure if this will be enough to win a national championship.

Some excellent comments so far.

Strength and conditioning have been a problem. I don’t know yet if it has improved enough. Depth is an obvious problem. The benchmark team (Alabama) doesn’t seem to have weaknesses of these sorts, and we’ve got to consider what it takes to reach that level. It really is not yet possible to know how good this Georgia team is, nor can we yet know how good the team can be if it continues to grow and improve week to week throughout this year.

Remember the best team we’ve had in a long time? By the end of that year we were likely the best team in the nation. Georgia and USC should have played for the National Championship according to many, including me. However, we certainly weren’t that caliber of team at this point in that season. We grew. We improved. This year’s team has a chance of following a similar pattern. I hope our coaching staff keeps on learning and teaching and doing what we the fans have every right to expect they should do, but haven’t often done.

Under The Bleachers gives us an interesting analysis of the SEC teams. I agree to a degree, but I’m not sure we can tell yet who the best teams are. The competition is still shaking out. Florida, however, is always a team we have to beat. Florida is always a team which causes us fits. How many times have we beat them in recent years? What’s our string of great, impressive victories against them? I really don’t think anyone who knows would be taking Florida or any other SEC team for granted. We are seeing which teams are lining up for the competition for worst teams in the SEC, but even some of them can have a very good day. It’s too easy for a team like Kentucky to decide they have had a horrible season, but it can be salvaged by beating a top ten team towards season’s end.

What I like best about our team and coaches right now is the fact that they are showing signs of understanding how much they have to improve, rather than celebrating how cool they are.

Go, University of Georgia Bulldogs!

Defense is really shaky. I understand about breakdowns in the secondary with the suspensions, but not getting gashed rushing up the middle by the likes of Buffalo (199yds) and FAU (135 yds). i don’t see LSU, Bama, SC, or Fl giving up these kinds of numbers. D-Line needs to check iteself before the real competition starts, or they are going to get pushed around up and down the field.

Hopefully the lackluster halfs by the D will end next Saturday – if not, surely when Rombo and ‘Tree get back vs UT.

I guess you read my post of your summer comment about the Gators……you made a classy post response. The Gators are still a work in progress, but they obviously have a lot of talent and will progressively get better as the year moves forward. It could get ugly for Kentucky in THE SWAMP, and LSU better come to Gainesville firing on all four very talented cylinders or a big upset is possible. You are correct, you are not up as much as you should be on college football. It is a norm today for ALL the good teams to play 2-3 “puffball” teams. Take a look at Bama, LSU, etc schedules and you will similar teams to Buffalo and FAU. Bama gave up close to 500 yards offense last year to Ga Southern and then went on and won the NC!!! P.S. I would not classify Missouri as a “puffball” team, in fact, I believe they will knock-off several very good teams this year if Franklin is OK to play.

I did not think the Gators could win both games…..but they impressed me. And…..in the manner in which Jeff Driskel is improving each week (and he showed an enormous amount of talent yesterday in Knoxville)….along with the Gator offense……Mr. Jones might be facing a nightmare or two himself in Jacksonville this year. And…..so you know…..Jeff Driskel….is not an immoble target in the pocket. The Vols found that out yesterday. And the Gators HAVE a running game and a very good OL now.

I thought that for once….Bobo made the right calls but with a lesser opponent. FAU has a new coaching staff and its hard to measure because their trying to adjust just as Georgia did when Grantham arrived.
We’re starting to get into the meat of the order this coming weekend and so we’ll see what type team Georgia will be.
We cant give the ball away 3 times and expect the same outcome. I believe when Jarvis is out, the defense seems less motivated to play. Thats what happens when Leaders are not present on the field.
I congradulate our 2 new freshmen kickers for being better than expected after 2 of our best kickers graduated last year.
FAU’s QB ate up our Defense with huge gains. If that had been South Carolina doing that, we’d be in trouble. Our 2nd string players should be better than their 1st string but yet we allowed them huge gains.
The one thing that i didnt think i had to worry about was our defense but yet now i do cause i figured it was going to be our offense.
I dont know bout you but giving up 300+yds. on passing by lesser teams is a concern to me. If you give that kinda yardage to Div. 1A schools then somebodys losing. You say “we dont have everybody back” but yet we should still be better.
Looked to me the guys on defense still dont understand their assignments. Grantham should never wait til just adjusting his defense at half time. Better get back to making sure those backups know where they should be.
I think all of this comes back to CMR not getting the team up for lesser opponents. Spurrier, Saban, and others get them up every game….why cant he?
Thank God for Jarvis Joneses of the world. He’s self motivated!
Best Defensive End ive ever seen at Georgia and no doubt, the best Defensive Player in College Football.
Heisman? I think he could be but he’d have to be measured in big time games to know that. I will say this though…..If he and Aaron Murray stay for their senior years then we could have 2 Heisman hopefulls next year.
CMR needs to let Brandon Smith return kickoffs and punts more. Besides im alittle disappointed in his Defensive play this year. Where have you been Brandon?
Now is the time for our defense to show up because youll be a full strength with no excuses.

you and everyone who wants to “Question Georgia’s Defense”

Answer this question: How many teams in the country would play this well while missing 3 All-American Defensive Starters?

With Jarvis, Ogletree, and Rambo out you are missing not only 3 All Americans but almost the entire center of your defense

In there place….. you a lot of young guys including several true freshman and a bunch of Sophomores…this causes a problem with lining up correctly and that is the key to Georgia’s problems without those guys, getting in the right spot and playing “assignment perfect”

Get those guys back and this defense will be tops in the country

congrats on the win and you are usually a very fair Gator fan BUT I must say that beating Tennessee is not a great feat

This is a team that let NC State move the ball up and down the field to the tune of nearly 500 yards AND Tennessee cannot run the ball against anyone!

UT was getting way too much credit for beating a also-ran NcState team in a shootout and then poor little Ga State

Florida = good win over a mediocre team
UT = waaaayyyyy overrated based on 1 game that really wasn’t that impressive
SCAR = NO passing game whatsoever and an injury prone QB

I had thought that this game was a battle for 3rd in the SEC East behind UGA and SCAR now, based on talent and schedule, I would say the East will end up UGA, FLA, SCAR, TENN

Bray faced one of the best defensive secondaries in the country yesterday (the Gator secondary is that good)……and a damn good defense overall…..playing without their best LB in Jelani Jenkins. He will be back for the Georgia game. The Gator DL put a lot of pressure on Bray and the corners covered two of the best WRs in college football about as well as you can do it. But I agree that the Vols lack a running game…..and the exceptionally well conditioned and strong Gator offensive line completely wore down the Tennessee defensive front seven. And I think A&M showed again yesterday that they are a good team. The Gators going into College Station and Knoxville on consecutive Saturdays….and going 2-0…..is impressive. As was Georgia going into Columbia, Missouri, and winning. Give credit where credit is deserved. Otherwise….you sound like a homer.

Muschamp did some other hiring of significance this winter…….getting ride of Charlie Weis’ friend that coached the OL…..and getting Tim Davis to coach the offensive line…..as well as hiring a terriffic stength and conditioning coach. Between those two…..the Gator OL and overall team is significantly bigger, stronger, and faster. Pease is taking advantage of that…..and Driskel is going to develop into one of the best QBs in the country before leaving Gainesville.

Nice to see Keith Marshall have a good game. Glad that Georgia finally realized that they don’t have to run between the tackles every time, and called a few plays where he could really get lose on the outside. I do NOT like seeing either Gurley or Marshall returning punts or kickoffs…let one of the second string wide recievers do that. It was also nice to see Georgia FINALLY put a team away, and let the second string offense play the entire fourth quarter.
But yet again, it took Georgia most of the first half to really get going. Don’t know why we can’t be ready to play hard from the very opening kickoff. If we don’t fix that, it’s going to hurt us down the line…

I didn’t mean that the Gators were not impressive….winning by 17 on the road almost anywhere is impressive

That shot was more directed at “Tennessee is not as good as people were hyping them up to be”
You can have a great QB and 2 great WRs BUT if that is all you have, you have nothing

And I would not classify BRAY as “great” and how is Patterson all of a sudden after 2 games “one of the best WRs in the country?”

Do I think that Florida’s offense is going to have a very very hard time against UGA and LSU’s defenses?…YES I do -so far the Gators have played exactly 1 team with a better than average defense and your QB was beat to death and the offense squeaked out 20 points

Do I think Florida is better than SCAR? YES

My bigger point is UT, Bray, and Patterson were waaaaaayyyyyyy overrated based on a game against NC State?……..YES YES YES

I think Florida goes 9-3 with losses to LSU, UGA, FL STATE just being fair based on talent

I think UT loses at least 4 games if not 5

Burton’s long gain yesterday was out of the wildcat…..not a pass from Driskel. And he was under pressure from constant Vols blitzes yesterday…..he just moved exceptionally in the pocket and checked down to secondary receivers when they did. And Hammond did catch a pass 10 yards down the field….and turned it into a long touchdown because he is just that athletic….and Driskel drilled the pass to him (he was the secondary receiver) under a lot of pressure from blitzing LBs…..which helped cause the long TD. It was a great play by both Driskel and Hammond. You sound completely ignorant with that last post…..and Driskel’s 71% and no INTs….is hardly misleading. Neither is Driskel’s 80 something yards rushing yesterday. He is a star in the making at QB for the Gators. Anyone that watched the Vos-Gators game say that. I think Georgia is showing just enough each game to win decisively but not show all it has got. They keep things off the field to keep them off the game films so they can keep the next opponent and the ones after that as unprepared as possible.

I think you will continue to see the team growing stronger and more efficient on both the O and the D as the season progresses through the SEC schedule.

My concern is with the special teams receivers on punts and kickoffs. I have seen some bad decisions and I realize they have been made by freshmen. They have to realize that if the kickoff comes down in the end zone then down it and take the ball at the 25 yard line.

If the punt is not safe to catch the get the heck away from it and don’t get near enough for it to bounce towards you and hit you on the leg. Just let the other team down it.

If Mason plays in a game, he loses his red shirt. Pretty simple really. If Murray gets hurt seriously, I would think it would be Mason on the field, not LeMay. He is just not ready to play at this level yet. Maybe he is trying too hard but it see,s to me, that he is still mighty green and unsure of himself out there. He is still playing like he was in high school, and trying to pull off super hero stuff instead of controlling the game and the offense.

Georgia has played Buffalo, Missouri, and Florida Atlantic (with 700 total yards against a horrible Florida Atlantic team that bloats Georgia’s stats).

Florida has played Bowling Green, Texas A&M, and Tennessee (over 500 yards of total offense against the Vols…..a little more impressive than 700 vs. FAU….don’t you think?)

Both Georgia and Florida are 3-0…..the only stat that matters.

Also…..Georgia has a Jr (RS) QB that is playing his 4th year in a system….with a lot of SEC game experience……playing against some very weak defenses so far. Florida has a true soph. QB playing well in his first year in a new system….with little on field SEC experience before this year…..and played well vs. a very good Texas A&M team….and played really well vs. a previously undefeated Vols team.

You need to give credit where credit is due……and compaing Georgia’s stats vs. Florida’s stats so far…has little to do with anything.

You need to learn a little about football, because your evaluation of the DAWGS is not even close to accurate. Lose to Florida and tenn., right. If you had played the sport, then you would know how difficult it is to get ready to play teams, that have something to prove, when your team is so superior that you have trouble getting up for the game. In the first three games, UGA has made halftime adjustments and inflicted serious damage to the other team in the second half. If you are basing UGA’s potential based on yesterdays game, you aren’t quite ready to step up to the spot, of evaluator. 712 yards against FAU should show you all you need to know about cup cake games. If UGA had kept it’s starters in the whole game, or even started them, they could have put up 1000+ yards easily. CMR spent the whole 4th quarter, trying not to score.
UGA will be just fine, now that they are getting into the meat of their schedule.
As for Geathers and Jenkins being too slow, this is another example of your lack of understanding about the 3-4 defense. Their job is to draw double and in some cases triple blockers as nose tackles that allows your DE’s and LB’s, as well as safeties on a blitz to come in and encounter as little resistance on the way to the ball carrier or QB as possible. They have been doing that well.

I really thought that offense was a problem….it still may be. We haven’t beaten a quality opponent yet, had to come from behind to win last week with great plays from the defense. Offense gets 700+ yards, but makes WAY too many turnovers. Careless! And a pick 6! Defense has given up big plays and many more points than it should, leaving poor opponents in games.

Some of this is typical of this Richt era. We just piddle around with these kinds of opponents. On the other hand, we got a lot of yards and the defense shut em down in 2nd half. I like Murray’s confidence at this point and the fact that Richt said “we’ll be ready”. For sure it’s time to be ready to play well from start to finish.

As I look at the SEC this year I see Florida losing to Georgia and LSU-South Carolina losing to Georgia Lsu and Florida on the road.Alabama and LSU are about dead even with Alabama being a 3 point favorite but with the game at LSU possibly at night probably even by game time or LSU favored by 1.Tennesee will get beat very badly by Georgia Alabama and lose to Miss St and Tennesee on the road.

Well, just got back from a great church service this AM, checked the sports news and saw where we moved up to number 5 in the AP Poll! Go Dawgs. Gators are moving up the chart quickly, exactly like I thought they would. To me, the chest pounding and worry is a bit of a waste–the teams will decide it on the field, and anything can happen–just ask USC. Vandy and SC will both be tough games for us, and I still think the Gators will be the toughest…

The dawgs offensive is good enough to score on anyone in the country, including AL. Conversely, anyone in the country can score on the dawgs. The outcome of the game was never in doubt but you just can’t help but wonder if this continued trend on allowing much lesser teams to score so easily and rack up yards early on in the game is going to be their achilles heel when they face SC, FL and TN down the road. This trend on defense is worrisome. Its not a confidence builder for the dawgs but does build confidence in much better teams the dawgs will face where if they find themselves down several TD’s due to shoddy defensive play early on will they be able to come back against the SEC’s better D’s and be able to stop them defensively late in the game. You cannot be selective on what teams to get up for and play. Better bring their A game week on Defense week in and week out if they expect to be in the NC game.

Welllllll, it’s great to see the Aaron Murray critics are still flapping their gums, and of course rightly so…….I mean….he DID throw 4 incompletions, including a meaningless interception…..in 18 attempts, and jeez,…c’mon, he can’t even throw for 350 yards in almost 3 full quarters, what’s up with that? And, let’s not forget the critics of the defense who wouldn’t be happy unless the defense gave up zero yards, zero first downs, and zero points.

I will again say I think this team has big things they are going to accomplish, let’s keep our priorities in order, and that means to focus on winning the East; and we will worry about Bama or LSU the first Saturday in December. Until then, find a way to beat what will be a scrappy and motivated Vandy, get the missing defensive starters back in time to take care of Bray and UT, and then October gets interesting. Go Dawgs!

I don’t get the rivalry thing on our players, folks! Embrace them all if you are a Dawg fan; they are all great athletes. Murray played great last night because we protected him. Awesome throws. Protect Murray and I believe he is very competitive for the Heisman. Unfortunately, we haven’t done that well. However, I am extremely excited about Lemay! I like his aggressive approach. I believe he is going to be a great QB at Georgia. Don’t worry about the pick. Like everything in life, you learn by doing and he is still very green. Some more experience and some more muscle on his frame, and he is going to be a great one. I haven’t seen anything written about JSW. Did you see him light the burners! Let’s get that guy the ball this year!!!

Step up and play some competition. The defense is a beast no matter who they will play but offense is suspect, with the level of competition they are playing and struggling with at the beginning, until the depth chart comes into play. Quit playing the candy azz games and step up in competition, not Ole Miss, that they seem to want to play every year from the west. They better do it this year, because without #29(J. Jones), he’s the glue to the defense. Won’t take nothing from the defense but i would like to see them play the SEC schedule or a viable non-SEC opponent.

Really looking forward to the game in Jax. I would say UGA is the team to beat in the East, but my Gators are getting better every week. We have lowly UK coming to town and then we get a week off to rest up for LSU. That game should really tell us if UF is back…or not. I liked Lemay’s poise in his first game. Yesterday he looked like a “Wildcat” QB, only lost. Thank goodness if something happened to Murray, we have the Hutson Mason option.

Lex, it’s the way Bama has been beating teams that has impressed me. Michigan and Arkansas won’t get embarrassed the rest of the season like Bama did them, and honestly, without trying to run the score up.

We can’t compare our team and there’s yet, but let’s see what our Bulldogs look like at full strength in a couple weeks . . .

A couple of thoughts on the D. We played a lot of young guys last night, including several true freshmen. We just didn’t pressure the QB. Reminded me of the bend don’t break days of yesteryear. The addition of a few people can make a big difference, so injuries could change the whole game, but I wouldn’t judge the D on last night’s effort. It may be that getting 9 and 18 back will yield a rusty D, but it also may elevate everybody’s play. Also, getting all of this stressful playing time really grows the young talent. Coming in at the end of a blowout doesn’t do that for you. So, we will just have to wait and see, but I think CTG was just gutsy on letting the young guys sail the ship last night. It might increase our depth over the tough stretch we have coming up…

SEC Power Rankings

ALA/LSU- no separation except the quality of teams they have played
UF- good 2nd half team, if they learn to play with urgency in the first half they will be tough
UGA- beat who was on the schedule, some of these guys are good, some holes on OL.
TN- Will learn from the loss to UF
USC- would be right there with UF/UGA,. but qb issues and Lattimore has not been needed
Miss. St- easy schedule, next test Alabama
A&M- good speed, young talent, learning new system
Missouri- good offensive talent, defense is weak, little to no depth
Vanderbilt- is better than what they have shown on the field, could flip/flop with Missouri
Auburn- poor coaching, developing of talent, who knows but this group is in a for a beating with LSU
Arkansas- this ranking is based on Saturday without Wilson, a great deal of questions
Ole Miss- signs of players buying into what Hugh Freeze is selling
Kentucky- dumpster fire, with no tackling skills, no quarterback, coaching change coming

Loved watching those smart Kids from Stanford beat those thugs from Southern Cal and that Muskrat looking Lane Kiffin losing. That ranking was pure PAC 10/ West Coast/ anti SEC voting. Oregon lays 50 plus on USC

Yeah, Joker is done, and Petrino is on their radar, I think Dooley is stating his case so far he wants to keep his job.

As for Arkansas, that win had a great deal to due to the defense that Alabama threw at them and the talent level that separate Alabama/ LSU from others can be seen in their OL on offense, and their front Seven on Defense. But Arkansas is a very poorly coached team at so many levels, and I can say the same thing about Auburn as well.

We still have a lot to prove. Need to play 4 quarters of quality football, as we won’t be able to rally from second half deficits against LSU, UGA, SC or FSU. Those teams are too good to play catch up against. That said, I’m very excited by the improvement they’ve shown each week. Beast, teams take on the characteristics of the staff sometimes, and I have noticed Muschamp’s very even keeled and confident attitude going into halftime (when he was under a lot of stress) in the last two games. He pointed out the good and was confident they could adjust for the mistakes. Then, the team came out and did exactly that. May have a Muschamp team characteristic in the making. Getting noticably stronger as the game goes on is a great trait for winning organizations. I won’t wish him well in Jax, but unlike a few of the few bitter types here, I wish him the best otherwise.

I think you’re right Beast – Petrino hasn’t been in trouble with the NCAA before. He left the Falcons in the middle of the night, then had a young girlfriend at Arkansas.

In between, he built up the Razorbacks to prominence. Arkansas was justified to fire him, but it sure ain’t enough to keep him a down and out program to snatch (no pun intended) him up.

Kentucky may do it.

When the MEDIA pre-ranked Southern Cal #1 I knew that wasn’t going to last . There is no way a team with around 70 to 75 scholarships will have the depth to beat the great teams. To play in the SEC or any team winning the National Championship they must have the depth and the only way to achieve that is to have approx. 85 good scholarship players on the team.
That is the biggest criticism of Mark Richt’s past recruiting failures. Walk-on’s will not cut it. Every once in a while a walk-on will be worthy to get a scholarship but Georgia can not waste 5 to 8 scholarships every year on sub-par players that they didn’t even take a second look at when their class was being recruited.
Since McGarity has started overseeing everything ,Georgia has improved a lot on their recruiting philosophy . With the 4 defensive starters out everybody can see the gaps we have at depth. I hope Mark Richt will continue to show improvement and willingness to get our recruiting results where they need to be.

Joey, If you have read any of my comments about USC over the summer and during the season I have stated over and over that USC was all smoke and mirrors, and my placement on UGA is all speculative based on suspensions and their not yet proven Offensive Line against a good defensive unit. They may well be a top 5 team, I would just like to see them play a talented team first. I just know that UK really would like to get their program to respectability again, and Petrino has spoken to several big time UK boosters already. The Joker experiment did not work and most folks in and around that program were ready for a change last season, but did not make waves. They are now pounding the Athletic Board for change and they want to win and win now or at least be competitive. There is no buy out for Joker and there is no buy out for Petrino, and he knows the area from his Louisville days and it allows him and his family a fresh start at a program that is easy to please with above .500 seasons.

I still think that the folks at Texas Tech will make a run for him once they fire The Tub there.

Therefore if Murray stays healthy Mason will NOT play one down this year.
