ATHENS — Here’s the abridged version of notes from today’s presser and practice:

  • Coach Mark Richt is injured. He suffered an abrasion and slight contusion of the chin in celebratory hug of Richard Samuel after Missouri’s thwarted fake punt. “I think my chin just rubbed back and forth on his shoulder pad and the meshing of his jersey and just wore a hole there,” said Richt, who hasn’t been able to shave since. “But that was a lot of fun.”
  • Bulldogs still playing “wait and see” game on suspended defenders Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree, who are still listed as the starters at free safety and inside linebacker, respectively. Official response this week “We’ll wait to see for sure what happens.” But they’re expected to be out two more games.
  • Richt on whether fullback Zander Ogletree is also suspended: “Zander didn’t travel, but we only take so many fullbacks.” The Bulldogs had Merritt Hall, Richard Samuel, Quayvon Hicks and walkon Corey Campbell in Missouri.
  • Richt on his post-game conversation with Missouri’s Sheldon Richardson, who coined the phrase “Old Man Football:” “Sheldon basically said it was a good game and, ‘Coach I have a lot of respect for you and your team.’ He said he didn’t mean to disrespect. You could tell he was sincerely a pretty good guy. I thought it was big of him to grab me and say that he had a lot of respect for our program and our team.”
  • Richt on Russ’ appointment as Uga IX this Saturday:  “It’s a big deal. I think Russ has earned his stripes, and I think Russ is ready. He had a good offseason too from what I heard.”
  • Noseguard John Jenkins said the injury that left him being helped off the field Saturday night was his big toe. “It got stepped on,” the 355-pound senior said. “And I was in pain. It hurt like crazy. But we just iced it down. I’ll be fine.” . . . Fellow noseguard Kwame Geathers had the breath knocked out of him but is OK.
  • Cornerbacks Malcom Mitchell and Damian Swann remain in green jerseys with minor leg and shoulder injuries.
  • Offensive lineman Watts Dantzler wasn’t practicing. Likely getting treatment for high-ankle sprain that kept him out of last Saturday’s game.
  • The Florida Atlantic game officially became a sellout on Tuesday afternoon, UGA reports. The Buffalo game to open the season was 300 tickets short of a sellout. Before last season, the Bulldogs had sold out every home game since Richt had been head coach.

Just wanted to say that you have to love the passion of CMR when he rushed on the field to hug RIchard. Two great individuals and I’m sure they both appreciated the moment. GO DAWGS!

Great stuff Chip. Glad we got out of there with minimum injuries including CMR chin. Loved the emotion when Samuel made that stop. I hope the reveal of the secondary short comings has CTG working his subs on drills and drilling the mistakes in the film room. Looking forward to this Saturday against Florida Atlantic. Maybe the team will use this as a full throttle exercise to get ready for the SEC run of teams starting with the resurgent Vandy and Vols. Get past these two and they will be ready for SC and the rest.

Go Dawgs!!!

Haven’t checked, but it felt like the first fake punt we’ve stopped on like 10 years….maybe that’s why he was so excited!

Sounds like Tennessee will be the first unlucky victim to face Grantham’s Junk Yard Defense at full strength. It’s alot like watching a Tropical storm turn into a Category Five Hurricane.

Glad nobody will be out long from injury. Keep em healthy and GATA!!! Go Dawgs!!!

When Motel 6 or the Kwame Sunami gets the wind knocked out of him, the whole stadium gets a breeze! I like the fact that UGA IX is putting on these win streaks! We need to do better than 10 this year, buddy.

I agree that CTG is the Man! Reminds me of the defenses and passion of the Junkyard Dawgs under the legendary Erk Russell! Can we sign CTG to a 20 year contract?! We would have won the NC in 2008 if he was in charge. Tiny Martino was kept on too long! Love the tackling and don’t miss the player bumps he had with the players when they actually made a tackle under Tiny. GO DAWGS! We can sweep the table before the SEC Championship Game! Jarvis Jones for President!

cats have fleas too, sad to say, laughingly, I think that you are right. I don’t recall in the last 6 years when a fake punt has not worked at critical times on our UGA! That is good observation. I have always contented you gain more by going after an opponent’s punter, and rushing him, and detaining their players, than any punt return set you might set up. Since we don’t go after punters, normally, it allows our opponents to use their linebackers and corners to go after a our punt returner instead of keeping their normally slower linemen on the field. What do the pros do?……….just a thought.

I also want us to throw to the tight ends more. I can only guess they are being kept in to block due to a young and inexperienced offensive line. I hope that as we get more experience, we can hit these guys at least 4 or 5 times a game.

It is time for Richt and UGA to stop playing the suspension game, it is unfair to all the players and the fans and serves no purpose any longer. Florida Atlantic is playing just for the money to build their football program so there is no need to continue the suspension mystery and in the case of UGA , if it continues to insist on going beyond the norm of SEC Universities on administering longer punishments, they could risk losing a vital SEC game, so these two players have been punished enough for their indiscretions and will be needed to ensure a victory. Go Bulldogs.

Grantham is the only coach on the staff other than the DB coach that Grantham had a hand in hiring that isn’t what I call a family or Mafia hire…..and the D is the best coached part of our team. I would love with the money our University has the entire staff was top notch, world class or whatever you want to call it.

ROLLTIDE1… We were at the Dome last year…Where were u??? Remember it is tougher to win the SEC… You fell into the chmpship and LSU played possum with the option that we showed you how to line up against anyway… GRANTHAM’S THE MAN…. great post… “like a tropical Storm turning into a Hurricane.”…. great line!!! As far as the 2ndary… we get Sanders Cummings back this week and Rambo back by TN and then we can play everyone back in their regular positions… Beating the Zou set us up for a great season now….

JB… Not sure if you noticed but the Offense and Defense made major adjustments at the Half and we dominated in the 2nd half… We matched them score for score thru out the game… I actually liked the 1st half of the game where we played the game close to the vest to get to the half and make adjustments…

No chance we overlook Vandy this year. There maybe as much payback in that game as there was last year vs. Auburn. The players haven’t forgotten the cheap shots, Grantham will be fired up, it’s a night game so the crowd will be “fueled up”…..Vandy may want to just stay home. It’s gonna get ugly.

I’m with you beanster….it’ll probably get ugly! I hope the DAWGS don’t forget the ugly play last year that Franklin openly and blatantly condoned. His clapping his hands after and obvious late and illegal hit is what caused Grantham to be so angry about! The Vandy players were chop blocking all night and hit after the play is over. Beat’em up good, DAWGS but do everything legal! GO DAWGS!!

@ Nahila:

You don’t get out much, do you????

The suspensions are NOT determined by CMR. The amount of punishment for ANY rules violation has been predetermined by UGA officials and were in place prior to CMR coming to UGA. I am sure all punishment doled out to UGA players is discussed with CMR because he is responsible for seeing the UGA rules are enforced.

Few, if any, other schools have or enforce team rules anywhere close to what UGA dishes out

I have to disagree with you on what caused the James Franklin/Todd Grantham confrontation!!!!!!!

What caused it was Franklin jumping(verbally) on Shawn Williams about Shawn’s defensive tactics in the game. Grantham immediately got Franklin’s attention and fortunately no physical contact occurred!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone watch Auburn vs. Miss St. on Saturday? You could see the infection of coach Willie setting in on their D. Van Gorder would make an aggressive call but the players were missing tackles (esp. in the secondary) left and right or, as Coach Willie used to say, “players weren’t executing.” I love it. Dark days over there in Lowderland.

Hugging a player by the coach during a game is the most classless action I’ve seen in quite a while.

Do you ever see Coach Paul Johnson hug his players? Heck to the no, and THAT is why We WILL Run This State! Go Jackets!

I doubt Johnson even hugs his mother. And his players likely would run the other way if he came toward them for a hug. CPJ ust doesn’t look like the huggy-bear type.
