ATHENS — Here’s the abridged version of notes from today’s presser and practice:

  • Coach Mark Richt is injured. He suffered an abrasion and slight contusion of the chin in celebratory hug of Richard Samuel after Missouri’s thwarted fake punt. “I think my chin just rubbed back and forth on his shoulder pad and the meshing of his jersey and just wore a hole there,” said Richt, who hasn’t been able to shave since. “But that was a lot of fun.”
  • Bulldogs still playing “wait and see” game on suspended defenders Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree, who are still listed as the starters at free safety and inside linebacker, respectively. Official response this week “We’ll wait to see for sure what happens.” But they’re expected to be out two more games.
  • Richt on whether fullback Zander Ogletree is also suspended: “Zander didn’t travel, but we only take so many fullbacks.” The Bulldogs had Merritt Hall, Richard Samuel, Quayvon Hicks and walkon Corey Campbell in Missouri.
  • Richt on his post-game conversation with Missouri’s Sheldon Richardson, who coined the phrase “Old Man Football:” “Sheldon basically said it was a good game and, ‘Coach I have a lot of respect for you and your team.’ He said he didn’t mean to disrespect. You could tell he was sincerely a pretty good guy. I thought it was big of him to grab me and say that he had a lot of respect for our program and our team.”
  • Richt on Russ’ appointment as Uga IX this Saturday:  “It’s a big deal. I think Russ has earned his stripes, and I think Russ is ready. He had a good offseason too from what I heard.”
  • Noseguard John Jenkins said the injury that left him being helped off the field Saturday night was his big toe. “It got stepped on,” the 355-pound senior said. “And I was in pain. It hurt like crazy. But we just iced it down. I’ll be fine.” . . . Fellow noseguard Kwame Geathers had the breath knocked out of him but is OK.
  • Cornerbacks Malcom Mitchell and Damian Swann remain in green jerseys with minor leg and shoulder injuries.
  • Offensive lineman Watts Dantzler wasn’t practicing. Likely getting treatment for high-ankle sprain that kept him out of last Saturday’s game.
  • The Florida Atlantic game officially became a sellout on Tuesday afternoon, UGA reports. The Buffalo game to open the season was 300 tickets short of a sellout. Before last season, the Bulldogs had sold out every home game since Richt had been head coach.

I agree that our next REAL test will be against the Vols. Franklin can make all the comments he wants about Vandy not being the SEC’s punching bag anymore, but now they actually have to shut up and play ball. CTG might just meet Franklin on the “G” for an old fashioned Oklahoma Drill. Winner take all!

Let’s take it all the way to Atlanta and beyond. Go Dawgs!

Let’s not get too excited yet. Missouri was not a world beater. Vanderbilt, Tennessee and South Carolina are probably better. We have a long way to go before we get to giddy about this season. A good start yes. Let’s see how we do the next month first.

I pray you are just a fan and not a Tech grad!

Sorry, I am a full fledged alumni. And if you don’t like reading my posts there are plenty of other blogs for you to read.
=====================================
I am pretty sure a graduate of Ga Tech would know that when you refer to yourself as an alumni instead of an Alumnus then you are lying about attending Ga Tech…or pretty much any college for that matter. When you are talking about someone other than yourself from your school then THEY are called alumni….when you refer to yourself you are an alumnus. Can we say EXPOSED.

So it sounds like the injuries are minimal. Certainly Watts will be ready for Tennessee at the latest. I’m glad to hear about Jenkins and Geathers. That combo at DT is a major strength for the Bulldogs. The news about Zander not traveling is interesting. I always figured his scholarship to have been more or less part of a “package deal” to get Alec. But 5th on the depth chart behind a true freshman and a walk-on? If he wasn’t suspended I hope he appreciates the gift of that scholarship. Because he is apparently not earning it.

Somebody please tell Malcom Mitchall and Shawn Williams to stop acting like idiots everytime they make a tackle. That’s what you’re supposed to do.
———————————–
AMEN AMEN AND AMEN!!!!!
Getting in their opponents face and thumping their own chests, everytime they do what they are on the field to do in the first place, comes off as classless childish behavior. I hope the coaches are noticing and have a talk with the entire team about such. Maturity is not just about play making.

@ Bubba4dawgs:

I have to disagree with you on what caused the James Franklin/Todd Grantham confrontation!!!!!!!

What caused it was Franklin jumping(verbally) on Shawn Williams about Shawn’s defensive tactics in the game. Grantham immediately got Franklin’s attention and fortunately no physical contact occurred!!!!!!!!!!!
————————————
After watching Franklin last year I wish CTG had put his hands on that slimy weasel. I’m sure he would have taken him apart.
Vandy players are going to have a new coach next year (most likely). If they have a winning season Franklin will be tapped by a bigger better school (one where 6-7 is not considered a great year), and will be gone like a rifle shot.

All Dawgs know this, but with their weak minds, they tend to forget, so here’s a reminder:

Georgia Tech is a very highly ranked academic school that has a football team. Its alumni and fans have real lives and careers that don’t depend on the football team for their happiness.

Georgia, on the other hand, is basically a sell-your-soul-to-the-devil football f-a-c-t-o-r-y that also gives diplomas – worthless as they are. They have scumbag coaches like Mark Richt who have no scruples or ethics, who recruit morons who barely got through high school, and collect huge paychecks, but still can’t win big games.

Now, can you remember all that?

When we get back to SEC play……we need everybody! I’m telling ya, the Tennessee teams are going to be gunning for us and will be plenty capable of beating us. We still have issues in the OL and Murray does not have enough time. Give him time and he will complete 65% of his passes. But failing to get 400 yards last week with only 100 rushing……poor output by the offense. The defense gave up a few big plays too. Fortunately, the D came through when it had to or we would have lost that game in MO. Trust me, the offense was never gonna win that one.

I wish we could return to “old man football”. Dooley knew how to make that work. We could convert on 3rd and 3 all the time. Nowadays, we have to hope to complete a pass. The days of “Tailback U” are done and dusted. I wish we could bring them back. You win championships with D and a good rushing game.

Samuel made a great play. It was the same fake punt SC got on the dawgs last year. If Samuel does not make that tackle and get off that block, first down and then some for Mizzooo.. The OL has to get into a rhythm. This is the last gimmee game this week. The OL is going make us or break us this season. RBs look good. D is making great plays. D did get burned a few times. Kicking game is not bad. Our kicker can make 52 yarders, but can not make a PAT. lol IT COMES DOWN TO OUR OL. ALABAMA HAS THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY. LSU HAS A GREAT OL, ALSO. SC’s D will be alot better than Mizzooos . SC had the best DEs in the country.

Fair and Balanced, just like Fox News, there is little balance to your assessment. The only thing that hurt us against Mizzou was a lack of mental discipline, which is cause for concern, but is not an indictment of UGA’s offensive potency in any way. The line has played fine – Murray has had plenty of time to throw as evidenced by his abundance of completed passes down field. The fact is you can’t block everyone when they are sending 6-7 guys after the QB. When they do that, there is going to be pressure, period. You have to get rid of it quickly to exploit the blitz (which is exactly what happened on multiple occasions, especially the long completion to King just before half time). So just zip it man, because your posts continue to smack nonsense.

Some of you might want to give Mizz a little more credit. They played a pretty good game against us until the last quarter. They are a better team than Vandy. Right now in Nashville, their alumni are sort of mum on the direction of their program, given the two losses, including their UNEXPECTED loss to Northwestern. THAT hurt them badly. THEY ARE STINGING by that loss.

UGA IS THEIR GAME. Why? Recruiting state of Georgia is the key to their imagined future success and the Granthom/ Franklin thing from last year.

They know Athens will be waiting, so they are using that reality to get pumped up. Folks, whether Vandy has the hosses to do it ………………they WANT SOME of UGA this year. Let us HOPE that we ARE ready.

Murray and his passing ...

September 12th, 2012
11:21 am

With Aaron Murray, we need to allow him to roll out and QUICKLY find his men with possibly shorter pass routes. He is short and the new patched up O. line is not experienced enough to hold them all back, with 5 or 6 or 7 blowing in to sack him. He needs to rolll out and quickly release that ball. Do this and it will freeze them.

Don’t get down on the OL. Mizzou was blitzing 6-7 early and often. Other than the interception, Murray only threw one errant uncatchable ball that I saw. By in large, the OL performed admirably and much better than against Buff. Most of the incompletions were on the receivers

takeowndawg and cats have fleas 2 — excllent point! If UGA would run more punt blocks we wouldn’t get burned on fake punts all the time. CMR was so happy about RS stopping the fake because UGA wasn’t looking for it. RS sniffed it out on his own. UGA should play every punt like it’s going to be a fake considering what has happened in the past.

Short of a sellout? Real reason, ticket prices are up from 55 to 70 bucks face value. A pair of season tickets with the “mandatory 400 contribution minimum makes it over a thousand bucks. After market tickets start at about 100 bucks (when you add the seller mark up to it) Thus college ball ain’t cheap anymore. Not complaining, just giving the facts

The Defense did just fine.
Sure we gave up too many points but with over 36% of the D starters off the field we did just fine.

I was more concerned with the O Line (again). Mizzou played smart ball and double teamed Jarvis as much as they could but like a champion he made a huge impact anyway.

Mizzou threw a bunch of funky formations on Theus’ side and forced him into some mental mistakes. Theus is a great talent and this is part of his learning curve. Barring injury this guy will go high in the draft one day.

I was greatly impressed with the fourth quarter play of the D and the O. We absolutely owned the field in the fourth quarter.

Great Game Dawgs!

Not good enough

September 12th, 2012
11:04 pm

It’s about time that CMR showed some emotion and after he did it seems that the team did too. He is way too pedestrian on the sideline and no I am not aasking him to curse, throw stuff, or have a melt down but anything is better than him standing there with his arms folded looking like he don’t give a damn. He still needs to take over offensive play calling or fire Bobo and find an elite offensive coordinator that can call plays other than pass on first down, draw play from the shotgun on second down and then put yourself in third and long too often and an obvious passing situation thats allows the defense an advantage. I am not going to get too excited over two games that we played poorly in the first half of both against less than elite opponents and just worry that if we Win the East we will get our brains beat out by Bama or LSU because they are light years ahead of Buffalo, Mizz, or anyone in the SEC East.
