Former Dogs Aron White, Logan Gray in Columbia and ready for game

COLUMBIA, MO. – Guess who’s in town?

Aron White, the outspoken former tight end for Georgia. He grew up right here in Columbia, just two miles from Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium.

White, who played for the Bulldogs from 2008-2011, was cut by the Atlanta Falcons last month and is still trying to catch on in the NFL. He came home to Columbia for a few weeks, and it’s no coincidence he’s here as Georgia gets ready to play his hometown team for just the second time in history and first time in 52 years.

“I can’t wait,” said White, who caught 34 passes for 512 yards and 10 touchdowns. “I definitely would’ve loved to have played Missouri while I was at Georgia. It breaks my heart to have missed it by one year. It definitely would have been fun to come and play at Faurot Field one time. But I’ll be there as a fan. I’m going to be decked out in my Georgia gear.”

Logan Gray, White’s former teammate at Columbia’s Rockbridge High, will also be at the game. Gray, who used the NCAA’s postgraduate program to finish his career at Colorado, actually works for Missouri’s athletic department as a tutor for the Tigers’ men’s basketball team.

I’m supposed to talk to Gray later, but according to his interview with the Columbia Tribune, he doesn’t feel as nostalgic about his time in Athens as White does.

Both players picked the Bulldogs out of high school in order to leave town and play a higher brand of football in the SEC.

“I wanted to go away and experience college away from home, ” White said. “But definitely the SEC allure was a big factor in my decision. Everybody aspires to play SEC level football in college.”

Now Missouri is playing on that level, and White is as intrigued as anybody to see how tomorrow’s game turns out.

“They’re saying it’s the most anticipated Mizzou game in history,” White said. “Everybody’s so excited. The hotels are blowing up with people around here.

“I don’t wish any ill will on Missouri, but I hope Georgia comes out and kind of makes a statement about the kind of league we’ve been playing in and the level of play we bring week in and week out.”

Aron White is a DGD! I really hope he gets a second chance with an NFL club. He was always such a hard worker at UGA and represented the program well both on and off the field.

Disappointed in Logan Gray’s comments. Never was a Dawg. Wasn’t good enough to start and stated he was “treated” different.

Simply wasn’t as skilled as the guy in front him on the depth chart.

He blamed everybody except himself.

Kind of hard to earn a starting spot when the guy ahead of you was the #1 draft pick in NFL. Disappointed as well, in LG’s comments.

Agreed, Raiderbeater. That whole interview reeked of sour grapes. It’s not like he wasn’t given a chance to earn the starting spot. I still wish the kid well, though.

Yeah, pretty weak comments by Logan. It sounds like he made a big mistake coming to Georgia in the first place and is still struggling with it. He’ll grow out of it and put it all in perspective one of these days. It doesn’t sound like he’ll be wearing any red and black tomorrow. That’s for sure.

None of them deserved to make the trip . They knew to be extra careful , that Georgia doesn’t advocate pot smoking like a lot of the school do. I don’t
know the details of Cummings situation but one or two game suspended is about right. Vasser’s punishment wasn’t going to change. I know this is the second offense for Ogletree but I think he only deserved one game because he wasn’t a second offender for the same offense but it is what it is and the players can only blame themselves AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THEIR TEAMMATES SHOULD NOT PATRONIZE THEM OR SUPPORT THEM ANY, THEY SHOULD BE PISSED OFF FOR THEM LETTING THE TEAM DOWN.

Logan Gray’s comments in that linked article are pretty disappointing. I’ve always held him in high regard for sticking around and then eventually being willing to change positions to help the team but it sounds like he was privately bitter about the whole thing. I’m disappointed for him because you only get one shot at the college experience and he may have let his feelings about not starting take something away from it.

Not sure either why he sounds confused about being treated differently. In any program, the starter is going to get the primary focus and attention during the practice week and the offseason. It’s rarely a position where you’re going to play more than one guy if you can help it.

DGDs, both.

I always felt a little sorry for Logan – the few plays he did get to play, for some reason the coaches would say something like, “we’re gonna run Logan in the ‘wildcat offense’ this season.” So when he trotted in, everybody, including the opponent knew what was coming and he would get dropped before he take a step.

Do I correctly remember he was a 5-Star QB in high school?

Awe, yall don’t be too hard on Logan’s comments. He was a star QB in high school, and he never really got to play. That’s gotta be a tough pill to swallow. Yes I understand it’s because he wasn’t the best, but he wasn’t bad. I’m worried that the same thing might be going on with Hutson Mason right now. Mason might be a little better of an SEC QB then Logan was though…

Regardless, most ex players have more love for the alma matters then Logan appears to have.

I think maybe some of you are overreacting to Gray’s comments. I think maybe part of what he said might be true: Do you think if Mettenberg had stayed around that Bobo would have benched Murray and let Zack play? I don’t think so and I think Zack is a better QB than Murray. I like Murray but he does not carry the team when they need him to make the big play.

Dammit.

Douglas, what gives you the impression that Mettenberg is a better QB than Murray? He probably has a stronger arm but we haven’t seen anything from him yet at LSU to make that kind of drastic statement.

Everybody knows that the fans are going to follow them or Twitter and if I wanted to throw off Missouri I would be Tweeting EXACTLY what we are reading right now. After saying that the only two in question is Rambo and Ogletree and I would say neither will be there.
I disagree because this is their last year and they won’t even register for school after this Semester because they will be more interested in getting drafted .So to punish them and they won’t even be at Georgia in six months only hurts the team and it doesn’t teach them anything. If Richt hasn’t improved their integrity after 3 or 4 years he’s not going to turn on any light bulb’s now.
