Alec Ogletree, Bacarri Rambo don’t make trip to Missouri

COLUMBIA, MO. – Georgia will be without Alec Ogletree and Bacarri Rambo when the Bulldogs  play Missouri on Saturday at Faurot Field.

Ogletree and Rambo were not among the 70 UGA players that traveled to  Holiday Inn Executive Center on Friday night. Neither Ogletree, the starting “Mo” linebacker, nor Rambo, an All-American free safety, played in last week’s opener against Buffalo either. Georgia has never confirmed that the players are suspended, but Rambo’s high school coach said in March both would be out four games for a second violation of UGA’s marijuana-use policy.

Sanders Commings, a starting cornerback, and starting outside linebacker Chase Vasser are also out for the game. They were suspended for two games due to off-season arrests, which the Bulldogs have acknowledged. Georgia considers Ogletree and Rambo’s situations internal.

So the Bulldogs will be without four defensive starters as they face Missouri’s high-powered spread offense Saturday night at Faurot Field. Cornerback Malcolm Mitchell, who moved from offense to replace Commings at boundary corner, appears to be ready to play Saturday. He missed last week’s game with an ankle injury but was able to practice this week.

Right tackle John Theus (ankle) also made the trip and appears ready to play. He had to leave the Buffalo game in the fourth quarter and was unable to practice until Wednesday. However, his backup Watts Dantzler was unable to travel due to a high-ankle sprain.

And once again, a Mark Richt-led team has all kinds of disciplinary problems that may well cost them this game. Not to beat the same dead horse year after year, but this all starts–and ends–with the head coach, and his coaching staff. I love Mark Richt as a strong Christian man, but he obviously is NOT instilling those virtues into his players, and hasn’t for years. So why’s he still here, again???

Everybody recruits bad kids, we just try to discipline them a little better, or worse, IMO the extra game or two doesn’t matter, it just buts coaches jobs in jeopardy the penalty should be 5 games first offense, then I bet you would see less idiots smoking the stuff, like only one guy missing on the D instead of four. That can make them think of their draft status. Go ahead, eat that brownie, it’s only two games, we still got the SECC and a bowl game, man f— it! Next string Dawgs, go out there and make us proud, here’s your chance!

I am wrong on what? All I pointed to was a recent study hosted on CBSNews website (portal to a left-leaning news organization) that cited a study about the effects that smoking pot as a teen had on adult IQs. I did not say pot should not be legalized.

I ‘d like to agree with that prediction covers dixie, I think this will be like playing Vandy with a spread, 34-31 DAWGS on a waning seconds field goal. Or maybe Jarvis can get in there on a couple plays and knock the QB out! Yea that sounds better then maybe we are looking at 34-9!! yea that’s the ticket!!

USMC Retired

The study itself was bias and poorly done. So, the report was wrong. Do you know how much funding goes into keeping pot illegal? The “war on drugs”. It’s rediculous! Did you know if you kill a person in cold blood, you can get out of prison in less than 20 years, but if you have a half pound of weed, you go to jail for life! How is that just? The govt wants to keep pot illegal because the hemp industry would overtake the cotton and many others.

USMC…my father was a marine and I love the military–and you for serving, SEMPER FI–but come on…this is a SPORTS blog, so let’s (for the love of God) NOT get into a protracted debate about drugs (or religion or politics)…good enough? And for the record, I am far from a moron, but DO have a vocabulary that doesn’t take me immediately to childish name calling. If you were truly a marine (and know you still are if the case), no matter what you may or may not think of me…I do respect you. Enough said.

Why single out athletes who smoke pot? Why not inclued all the students who will smoke pot this weekend. If every student who at all SEC, ACC, Big 12, etc, etc. who will smoke pot this weekend were suspended from school, what would the classes look like on Monday morning at the
campuses? And I bet even a few of the ladies at Agnes Scott will even indulge.

Duly noted, thank god you’re on our side! We need more like you in the trenches ! Yea good point no doubt Erk. What actually worries me is if Granthum has had time to instill the discipline needed to defend this type of offense, I think he has but their QB scares me, and Murray will no doubt be hyped up and take time to settle down meaning we could very easily be playing from behind in the second half. I think our running game will take over when its needed most and gurley goes for 150, we win.

As I posted much earlier in this blog, Georgia wins this game going away, surprisingly easy. Georgia will not miss the suspended players at all. The fact they were suspended is their fault. Period. They know the law. They know the rules. They have hurt their team and their fans with their poor decisions.

Tekhata

As a life long UGA fan shouldn’t Richt be held accountable for the fact that we have 4 STARTERS out? Biggest season for us and the biggest game and we are without 4 playmakers against an offense where they matter most. Every year it is like this, we don’t have our players stumble out of the gate and then come on strong later in the season. Yes other teams have a player out here or there but we seem to shoot oursevles in the foot every season with this. If we lose tonight, I hope the fans blame Richt for the fact we weren’t prepared. Yes they are college kids and he isn’t their daddy but maybe he should get a consultant to help him keep our players out of trouble.

LewDawg

How stupid is it that we have the toughest drug policy in the SEC if not the country? If you think these college kids wont drink and toke a weed some then you are living in fantasy land. Weed cases should be held internally and not have players suspended for games. Cocaine and hard drugs totally different situation.

Its great CMR wants to make players better men and im all for it but we pay him 3 million a year to win football games and championships- PERIOD!! This goody-to-shoes crap has got to stop. Who in their right mind drug test players right when they get back from spring break? we are absolutely our worse enemy. Can not wait to Michael Adams gets his ass out of Athens and if CMR dosent win BIG this year then take his ass on out of town to. The pressure on him and the UGA football program will be intense and ugly if they lose this game tonight with all these suspensions. UGA fans are tired of losing big games and being looked upon as paper tigers which is what we have become the last few years. We look good, talk a big game but cant seem to back it up and lets hope that all changes for the good starting tonight. GO DAWGS1

I don’t see MO winning, lets remember their “explosive” offense scored 34 against a far less talented defense than GA’s, even with the four missing. Now that being said ball security and not going plumb retarded on special teams are the keys. Lastly before someone who is ill informed posts MO scored 62 points not 34, two of those were defensive and two were on punt returns, hence the the keys to the game.

Eveyone of the game day crew picked UGA to lose. That made me sick.
They said that the only reason UGA was even ranked was because of their defense and with 4 out then there is no reason to think that they will win. They said that we couldnt depend on a freshman running back and murray had no line to protect him.
They said…I hope we prove them all wrong. I hate the game day crew!!!

Where are all the haters that said CMR would play these guys to save his own arse? CMR may never win the MNC and this may be his last year. But if he leaves he will leave with his integrity intact because he didn’t excuse the behavior of some of his best players to win a game. Personally, I wouldn’t suspend any player for an SEC game for drug offenses until the conference comes up with a uniform policy. I would only sit out players for non-conference games until the playing field is level. Do you people honestly believe that UGA is the only team in the conference that has guys who smoke pot? At some SEC schools you wouldn’t even know a player has failed one test until they have already failed two! Haters are gonna hate, but CMR is doing what he thinks is the best thing to do considering the policy they have @ UGA.

Every year we have injuries, suspensions, etc. that figure in to our chances of winning big. Every team experiences this, we just have to adapt and overcome a little more with the drug policy. The policy should go one way or the other, make it stricter as in first offense 5 games, or make it like Florida’s. Make these guys think a little harder rather than eating that brownie or taking that hit. If a guys draft status is in question, I bet they will think a little longer, because lets be honest ,the guys couldn’t care less about a degree if they think they are getting in the NFL.
