Malcolm Mitchell the latest defensive starter to be scratched for season opener

ATHENS — Yet another defensive starter is going to miss Georgia’s opener against Buffalo.
Malcolm Mitchell, who was moved from wide receiver to cornerback due to attrition in the Bulldogs’ secondary, has been scratched from the game as well. The sophomore from Valdosta reportedly sprained an ankle in Georgia’s “walk-through” practice on Thursday. That’s according to UGA, which closes its practices to the media on the Thursdays before games.
“I can confirm that he sustained a left ankle sprain in yesterday’s practice and will not play in tomorrow’s game vs. Buffalo,” Georgia spokesman Claude Felton said on Friday afternoon. “No projections at this point on his availability for next week’s game.”
No details were provided on how Mitchell actually injured his ankle in a walk-through practice.
Mitchell was slated to start at boundary corner for the Bulldogs. His absence makes him the fifth defensive starter expected to sit out the opener.
Senior Sanders Commings, the regular starter at that position, is suspended for the first two games due a domestic battery conviction in February. Outside linebacker Chase Vasser is also suspended for two games due to his May arrest for DUI. Inside linebacker Alec Ogletree and Bacarri Rambo are expected to miss at least the opener due suspensions for teams rules violations. UGA has never confirmed nor denied that Ogletree and/or Rambo is being disciplined but has declined interview requests for the two players since March when it was first reported they failed surprise drug screenings conducted by the UGA athletic association.

Does any objective fan really think Richt would pull a ploy like “saying” MM is hurt just to have a surprise for Mizzu? I actually hope our coach is that inventive and ruthless to win but I just don’t think that fits his choir boy style.
How the heck did MM get injured in a walk through? Someone suggested a foot race…sadly enough…that is almost believable the way this team shoots themselves in the foot.

NEVER should have been overturned. The ESPN/SEC Homer announcers are full of crap. The SPEED of the play is the ball was knocked out. The NEW definition of TD sucks IMO. TOUCHDOWN should still mean YOU & the BALL are in the End Zone.
The word Touchdown should be changed to FLYOVER.

SEC East Commish, Corey Raymond replaced Ron Cooper as DB coach at LSU. Raymond is an alum who played for the Giants and Lions after LSU and was DB coach at Nebraska before returning to LSU in the Spring. Cooper was a great coach and I think he’ll do well in Tampa. Raymond, according to the players, is more of a technician, and that’s just what our young DBs need. We’ve got two young guys, Mills and Collins who will be holding down the LCB and nickel spots. Thankfully, our early season isn’t as tough as last year’s, so they’ll have time to get some experience before conference play.

I do agree Vandy is no push over but I also will mention how much losing your D-coordinator was exposed last night as well as what you will see going forward. It will resemble what occured when Mullen left for Miss st. with UF.
I do hope you enjoy your next 3 (cupcake) games and hopefully your QB gets healthy when the Dawgs stop through for the rent check.

Tenn has some weapons, just not sure if they know how to use them yet.
If I were Dooley, I would follow the advice of Coach Franklin and lay everything on the table and pass when you should run, go for it on 4th down, onside kick, blitz often …he needs to win 7 or 8 games.

If I were a gamecock fan I’d probably get sauced on a cock blog after last night….
we get it though, It’s put up or shut up after that performance.
It’s scary when you folks start sounding like UF fans when you only speak of recent and fail to mention historic past……. this is a new year and that’s why it such a pure sport… its unknown until the season is over.
Issues for UGA…. hmmmm Defense is fine, Oline is fine, WR’s are fine, QB is fine, and after tomorrow the K and P wont be rookies anymore so they will be fine…. so maybe it would have to be TE??? at least until the next one finishes his application to TE U.. lol
