The SEC has five teams in the top 10 of the Associated Press preseason college football poll -– but not the No. 1 team.
USC, entering its third season under coach Lane Kiffin and its first back from an NCAA-imposed two-year postseason ban, got the top ranking in the media vote released Saturday.
Alabama and LSU, the SEC teams that met in last season’s BCS title game, were ranked Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Other SEC teams in the top 10 were No. 6 Georgia, No. 9 South Carolina and No. 10 Arkansas. Georgia’s ranking is the highest for the Bulldogs since September 2008.
Georgia Tech received poll votes but was not ranked in the top 25.
LSU’s dismissal of star cornerback/punt returner Tyrann Mathieu from the team on Aug. 10 –- reportedly for failed drug tests -– enabled USC to move to the top of the poll. Because of Mathieu’s impact, the AP extended the voting deadline and allowed voters to amend their ballots.
Before Mathieu was kicked off the team, LSU had received 28 first-place votes, USC 22 and Alabama nine, AP reported. But in the poll released Saturday, USC had 25 first-place votes, Alabama 17 and LSU 16.
One AP voter who changed his ballot was Seth Emerson of The Macon Telegraph. Emerson said Saturday that he originally had LSU No. 1 but dropped the Tigers to No. 3, putting Alabama No. 1 and USC No. 2.
“I was in the Georgia Dome,” Emerson said, pointing to Mathieu’s two long punt returns in last season’s SEC Championship game victory over Georgia. “I saw the effect that had.
“Even without Mathieu,” Emerson added, “there is a clear separation between the top three teams and the rest.”
LSU was ranked No. 1 in the USA Today coaches’ preseason poll, which was announced before Mathieu’s dismissal. Alabama was No. 2 and USC No. 3 in that poll.
In the AP poll, USC totaled 1,445 points, Alabama 1,411 and LSU 1,402. Oklahoma and Oregon completed the top five, in that order. Oklahoma and No. 8 Michigan received one first-place vote apiece.
The AP poll, unlike the coaches’, is not part of the BCS formula that determines who plays in the national title game.
Georgia’s No. 6 ranking was the same in both polls.
“I would’ve predicted us not to be quite as high in [the AP] poll, but it’s good that people feel that way about us,” coach Mark Richt said Saturday. “We all know it doesn’t mean a lot other than you’re starting in a spot where, if you take care of business, you have a chance to stay up there. . . . We know we’ve got a long way to go and a lot to prove.
“… We want to be well thought of,” Richt added. “Have we earned it this year? No. But I guess from everybody’s evaluation of who’s returning and all that type of thing they feel like we’ve got a chance.”
Said UGA tailback-fullback Richard Samuel: “We don’t feel any pressure from [the high ranking]. In the long run, [the coaches' poll] helps us at the end of the season when it comes time to decide who gets to go to the national championship. So we just look at it like that, but we also know that we’ve got to take it game by game to get there. … I really do believe in our guys. We have a really wonderful, amazing team. We had some victories last year and a couple of games we have to learn how to finish.”
Georgia Tech was sixth in the others-receiving-votes category.
Asked if he would use being unranked as motivation, Tech coach Paul Johnson said: “No. Probably won’t talk about it.”
Said Tech center Jay Finch: “I think that’s right where we should be, because, to be honest, I like starting outside where nobody’s suspecting anything. But if you keep winning, you keep going up.”
In all, the SEC placed six teams in the AP’s top 25 –- the five in the top 10 plus Florida, which was ranked No. 23 despite a 7-6 (3-5 SEC) record last season.
The Big 12 also put six teams in the top 25 but only one in the top 10. The Big Ten had five teams ranked, one in the top 10. The Pac-12 and ACC had three teams apiece in the poll — two and one, respectively, in the top 10.
The ranked ACC teams included No. 7 Florida State, No. 14 Clemson (which opens the season against Auburn in a Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome on Sept. 1) and No. 16 Virginia Tech.

I don’t think that you can expect more than this ranking until UGA proves that they deserve it. We are ranked right where we need to be if we are going to get that shot at the BIG game. This could be one of those years where there is a lot on the line for the Georgia – Georgia Tech game. 14 Days till we play ball!

You are correct Augusta Dawg. The polls have always loved USC and Ohio State, despite a soft schedule and no conference championship. Even this year, if you take a look at the top 25 above, notice Ohio State is ranked #18, and they are the only team in the top 25 that posted a losing record last year. You can bet Urban is aware of this. Once he gets past the one year probation, he figures to be in the NC mix yearly, with a much easier path than the SEC.

There is definitely potential with the 2012 squad, if our OL can block, if Murray can eliminate his mistakes, if Richt and Bobo bring a solid game plan and execute it with consistency, if our special teams can do their job. A lot of if’s, but I’m ready for the season to begin.
I do have a back up plan if things don’t go well, spend more time on the Gulf. Can’t lose either way. Go Dawgs, let’s repeat 1980 and run these losers off our blog.

SEC off to a good start again. Don’t see USC winning it all. South Carolina being ranked behind UGA probably sticks in Spurrier’s envious craw and that’s a good thing. Florida is probably better than 20 something though they are still looking for a QB. Gamecrocks will have all they want with Vanderbilt in the very 1st game. They are on upset alert due in part to the fact that Lattimore won’t be back to form til mid season. UGA will have a good test in game #2 against a strong Missou team. LSU will miss the Honey Badger more on special teams than as a CB as they have depth behind him. Would love to see Spud go down to Vandy in game one…….. Spud would stroke out!

hell ya yall are the best. the best cheaters in college football.
if i was running a 100 yard dash and gave my self a 10 yard head start over the rest of the field i certainly wouldnt honestly believe i am the fastest man in the world no matter how many times i finished no 1.
oh i may smile and brag to all who would listen but deep down i would know i am a fake.

Why is Oklahoma in the top 5? I can name 10 teams I would rank higher than the Sooners. But they always start out in the top 5…no matter what they did the previous year. It takes more than a good QB to be that good.
I also don’t think USC has the depth….particularly on defense…..to be ranked #1. They certainly have the offense however. Like Georgia, USC has to avoid key injuries to reach expectation this year.

I like Bama to win the West, and Georgia to win the East. I got Georgia winning that game. Georgia’s unit are better everywhere over Bama from QB, RB, WR, DLine, LB, DB’s.

Ranking will shuffle as the season goes on and things change from year to year so before we say Georgia has a soft schedule let’s have the season pan out. We still have tough games and if we make it through and win in Atlanta at the dome then we will earn it. Let the haters hate. USC plays no one, FSU plays no one, michigan only plays bama and will get crushed, and the sooners are hurting themselves like we used to. 1st year coordinators get smoked in the SEC.
Florida has a 1st Year Off Coor.
South C has a 1st year Def Coor.
Georgia’s staff continuity, and the schedule, will be the difference this year in the East.
The Georgia team is also just very good on both sides of the ball. Georgia’s units (QB, RB, WR, Dline, LB’s, DB’s) are top 5 in the country.
Only things that could derail season are Oline, Sp Teams & Turnover Margin in big games. Can Georgia fix those issues? If yes, 14-0, if not, 9-4.

Keys to winning Georgia’s Big 5 games:
Mizzou: Stop the pass and you win this one.
SC: Stop the run, and you win this one. Throw it to beat their weak secondary.
UF: Don’t beat yourself w/ turnovers/sp teams, these guys can’t score on offense.
Aub: Throw that ball deep, we’re talking Willie Martinez here, go deep.
GT: Run the ball against weak front 7, play keep away.

The reason why the SEC is so dominant is that most of the recruits couldn’t make it in a college with academic standards (with the exception of Vandy). SEC teams will take anyone who at least knows what 2+2 equals – just look at the roster of the players, where they are from, and what their majors are. Most of the majors are so watered down – just so you get a kid from the hood to play football – it’s a shame.

The ONLY reason UGA is #6 is their powder-puff schedule – who do they REALLY play?? The only team they play who may be really good is South Carolina – besides them, the rest are laughable teams (Buff, GS, GT, Fl-AT (you have got to be kidding me), KY, Vandy, and Missouri) or has beens (Tenn, FL, and Auburn). So stop kidding yourselves – I, with ZERO coaching experience, could take UGA to AT LEAST 10-2 – with hardly breaking a sweat.
I like to see what would happen to the puppies if they played teams like AL, LSU or USC, etc – we all know what would happen – UGA would LOSS – as they do every time they play a really good team.

I love NCAA football. I love the upsets. I like it when the bad guys lose, and I love to hear coaches like Spurrier cry like a little girl. I like the underdawg. I want to see Vandy demolish the chickens. I would say the same about Michigan beating Bama, except I absolutely hate Michigan and like Bama. Yeah I said it, it’s the majority of the Bama tools posting in the AJC I can’t stand. Be honest folks, Bama brings relevancy to the SEC. So does LSU, AUBURN, UT, & UF. …UGA on the other hand, must, must, must rise to the next level this year. 1980 was a long time ago. Did you hear me? Do you want to be known for #34 , or do you want people to remember Jarvis, & Corn, & M.M, & Aaron Murray, Marshal&Gurley??? I want Coach Mark Richt to develope this 2012 team to it’s maximum potential. ENOUGH watching another SEC SCHOOL BRING RELEVANCY TO THE SEC! IT IS OUR TURN AND WE HAVE TO DEMAND IT FROM OUR COACHES…NO MORE BEING OUT-COACHED, NO MORE FOLLOWING. IT’S TIME TO BE THE LEAD-DAWG, CAUSE IF YOU AREN’T THE LEAD-DAWG, THE SCENERY ALL LOOKS THE SAME…

You UGA haters need to grow-up and stop all the jealous rants. UGA fans didn’t vote UGA#6, the coaches and sports writers did. You are supposed to be grown men, not a bunch of babies. You cry like someone took your piece of candy away. Most every team has some problems. Some just have less than others. Some can be fixed during the season and these teams will prevail. Some have too many holes to suceed this year and some are thin but good and one injury to a key player (qb) will pretty much screw their season totally. How many times will we get the lucky bounce this year? So much goes on in ann entire football season, that’s what makes college ball so great to me. All this hate on the blogs is unnecessary and childish. It may be fun to the immature, but you’ll grow up eventually and learn how to communicate without acting like a child…

I agree Red Stick. Their defense is average but they do play in a conference that likes to get in shootouts. I think Bama will lose two this season. They lost too many top players. LSU will still be strong without the HB. Georgia has a lot to prove after a disappointing 2011. Arkansas will not be all that they are hyped up to be. South Carolina will be pretty good. As for USC, they will look strong because they are playing a much weaker schedule in the PAC 10 but when post season rolls around, they will be exposed. The SEC champ will win the National Championship.

1- Murray is a 15 to 1 odds to win the Heisman.

KingDaddy, With this staff UGA has a chance to make it to the SECCG but they have zero chance to beat Alabama or LSU in that game. They could very well go 11-1 or 12-0 in the regular season but end up losing the SECCG and end up in the Capital One Bowl. That seems like the most reasonable expectations. Anything more is a little too Disney for me until proven otherwise on the field consistently.

UGA mandates that the penalty for athletes who are caught using illegal drugs is to be suspended for a minimum of 10% of the games for their sport. The regular season for football is 12 games. 10% of 12 games equals 1.2 games. When Richt suspends a player for one game, that’s only 8.3%, not 10%. Assuming that UGA plays in a post-season bowl game, it’s only 7.7%.
So how does Marvelous Marky explain that away?
I know it’s UGA, where mathematical skills are very limited, but even Richt, who’s not too bright, should be able to handle a calculator.
Never mind, I forgot that Richt is a lowlife, cheating sleazebag. That explains everything.

If I am a UGA fan I would be more worried that Spurrier is starting to beat UGA again instead that we beat S. Carolina 3 years ago. If you want history, UGA is 46-16 over S. Carolina but Spurrier is 14-5 against UGA and if he beats UGA he will even his record with UGA at S. Carolina

He doesn’t want to hurt the Gamecocks self esteem early in the season,so he lets up and Spurrier comes back and takes the sissy dawgs to the clearners at the end. Does he think Missouri will be scared ot play the Dawgs? They will do the same as South Carolina. Richt is all about the other team’s feelings. Tennessee has Tyler Bray but I don’t think they have enough depth not to lose a minimum of 5 game or more. Florida has a good defense but only a fair QB and little running back depth, South Carolina will have the best team other than Georgia in the East . Connor Shaw should be good but only has one proven receiver and I think Shaw can be rattled if we keep pressure on him. I don’t mine losing to South Carolina if they beat us but I don’t want to beat ourselves like we did last year. Even Spurrier admitted Georgia out played South Carolina last year.
Can’t wait until the Missouri game to really see just what we have. I am very optimistic and think we may have a great team this year because this is the first time that I feel the players are all business and can’t wait to play football. To truly get a team effort would be the first time in many years. I think our defense will be ranked in the top 3 in the nation. I also think our offense can have over 400 yard per game.

UGA doesn’t rank themselves so talk to the sports writers. I think the coaches ranked us #6 as well. So I guess they don’t know anything either. Net net, Tech fans just hate and there is no newspaper in South Carolina because not enough people can read so they spew their inferiority complex here. This is therapeutic for Tech and SC fans. It will all play out on the field and we shall see if the rankings are accurate. In the meantime keep on hating if it makes you feel better. It doesn’t change our domination of both programs…

The problem with strength of schedule discussions at this point is that nobody knows how good the teams are–it is pointless. For those who don’t seem to know, colleges lose large percentages of their roster each year. They also add large percentages. This is why prognosticators are always wrong. Florida will be a top ten team imho. Pease took two/three stars at Boise and made them competitive. The Gator O will improve all year. They brought back almost the whole D and it is packed with 5 star recruits. Look for UF and UGA to be top ten. I think SC is top twenty this year, but if Lattimore and the O do very well, they could be top ten.

I’m feeling the same as at the beginning of every year, optimistic, but not really knowing what to expect. I know we have the ingredients for a really good year, however, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Let’s hope our coaches are up to the task this year. Saban had a Navy Seal address his team about facing adversity. I hope Coach Richt utilizes similar philosophies. Exercise the body, mind, and soul. Challenge these players to become the best and accept nothing less. That’s how champions are made. Good Luck Dawgs.

It’s going to be a great season; we’re all ready. Not quite ready, though, are sports writers and the TV guys who evidently weren’t required to take English grammer in journalism school. ‘Between’ is used when speaking of a comparison involving two schools. ‘Among’ is used when speaking of three or more, fellas. You want perfection from these young twenty years olds; let’s expect a higher level of performance from you guys. “Even without Mathieu,” Emerson added, “there is a clear separation between the top three teams and the rest.” The word is ‘among’ the top three teams and the rest.

Gamechanger, Georgia won the East last season, unfortunately for SC they couldn’t beat teams from the west. Is John Jenkins still going to be ineligible and will georgia be facing major sanctions for playing him? Is 6′9″ 350 lb lineman can’t compete in the SEC, did you see former Dog Dennis Roland 6′9″ 345 lbs playing for the Bengals Thursday? Jarvis Jones can’t tackle SEC running backs but he is a 1st team all american.Another clueless idiotic post.Just so you know everyone knows Georgia had a bad season in 2010, and really didn’t have the personnel to play the 3-4 , but it did pay dividends in 2011. Georgia has got to easily be the most overrated team on there. I can imagine that the no. 6 ranking is solely due to a creampuff schedule. It certainly can’t be based on the idea that they are actually the 6th best team in the country. They’re not in the same league with Arkansas. That’s for sure. If they had a schedule where they played at least one decent team out of conference like Boise or Michigan and at least one of the 3 big boys from the west I would take them a little more seriously. But in reality they’re probably around the 18th or 20th best team in the country all things being equal. This is after all a program that has lost its last 2 bowl games to a middling big 10 team and Central Florida.

During the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, describing a typical UGA player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed slimy Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career in the U.S. Congress. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year. But to Richt’s credit, he does produce a lot of fine garbagemen. And homeless bums.

It is obvious you like to live in the past , I prefer to move on and learn from past mistakes .The reason Georgia didn’t win their last too bowl games was because they did not have the depth to stay with Michigan States senior lead team and against Central Florida I think they were just embarrassed as coaches and players so much they did not care. Today you get so much money to show up for a bowl game refusing the invite was out of the question , but they didn’t want to be there. Now getting to the schedule , Georgia supposedly had a easy schedule last year but all four teams we lost too ended high up in the ratings. Same thing this year if Georgia wins the East they will NOT get away without playing LSU or Alabama for the Championship.

Subsequent studies by others have confirmed that UGA fans are in the fourth quartile of human intelligence, with an average IQ of 78.
UGA scholarship athletes had an average IQ of 49, which is slightly lower than a turnip, but they did edge out cabbages.

This year is not last year as you know, so why do you think it will be excatly like last year? If you’re embarrassed about UGA winning the SECe last year, then you aren’t a fan anyway and your opinion doesn’t mean a whole lot to me. If you disagree, then don’t expect a lot of respect from Doggie fans in a Dawg blog. Oreety simple really. Trolls need to go on to their own blogs and discuss seriour football. Why do people complain about how “easy” our schedule is? I vividly recall us playing Alabama in the blackout game then going to LSU a few games later and dropping 50 on them. We played LSU and Arkansas in the same season after that. Played Boise, Colorado, Arizona St, OK State recently in non conference and we got Clemson the next 2 years as they are starting to become good again. We would’ve had Ohio St and Oregon in the later part of the decade if those series had not been cancelled. We play a road game every year vs UF because the game is never played in the state of Georgia. I’m tired of people criticizing our schedule. We are due an “easy” schedule. But what’s gonna happen because we play in the SEC, either Ole Miss, or Auburn, or Vandy, or Tenn is gonna decide to become relevant again and be a tough game. We can’t just say that this schedule is easy with 8 SEC games on it…with that said, we should (barring a major injury) win every game on the schedule including the game vs the Cocks. GO DAWGS!
P.S. Dawg fans, stop trying to get rid of CMR because he wasn’t and isn’t the problem. We’ll never find anyone better than him to replace him.

JS
August 20th, 2012
10:27 am
How does UGA’s strength on offense (passing) match up to pass defenses they’ll face? UGA faces 8 pass defenses that finished in the top 30. To put that in perspective, USC & Barkley only play one team that had a top 30 pass defense. So UGA has a VERY tough schedule, because the schedule challenges UGA’s offensive strength.
I expect UGA to be stout on defense, leading the SEC in def scoring. I also expect the offense to hover around 39 points a game, and ALSO lead the SEC in offensive scoring. That combination of balance, will pave the road to 14-0. Alabama, LSU & Florida will all have top 10 defenses, but none will have a top 25 offense. UGA will have a top 5 defense, PLUS, a top 5 offense. No one else in the nation can say that.
Oregon will have a fairly easy schdule and will have a top 5 offense, and a top 10 defense.
So UGA vs. Oregon, UGA wins.

JS, true, we do face eight big time pass defenses, but we went against ten of them last year, and we won ten games, and Murray put up 3000 yards/ 30+ td’s.
Havn’t heard anyone predict UGA vs. Oregon, but you’re right, scheduling + great off/def balance, makes both a safe bet. USC’s offense will finish top 10, but their defense won’t finish top 20. Oregon should take them out.
Those pulling for Bama to repeat, forget it. Saban had 3 chances to repeat, and didn’t. 10 of last 13 Natl Champs didn’t even win thier conference the next year. Guys just don’t stay hungry.
Hard to predict the SEC West because no one has a solid offense except Arkansas, and they don’t play defense.
The SEC East is pretty easy, because Florida & Georgia are the only two premiere defense, but Florida’s offense might be the worst in the SEC.

Don’t breathe a word to anyone else but I was busy with CMR’s Brother-in-law all weekend!!!!!!
Bro-in-law is in charge of SEC scheduling and we finally came up witth ANOTHER 2 YEARS of cupcake schedules for our doggies. We haven’t put the final touch to it but if all gets approved(And it always has been in the past 6 years Bro-in-law has had that position) UGA will not play Bammy, Lucy U or Petrino School for Bike Riders.
I know this is a stretch but we may be able to get Spurrier’s Chikuns off the schedule also. It won’t be easy but Bro-in-law can work miracles as we have witnessed the past few years. This part, however, is really not important since Spurrier has already sold his soul to the devil to get UGA off his schedule and they have already won the only title( SEC East in 2010 while CMR has won 6 of those and 2 SEC Championships in his 11 years as HC) in USCe history so we don’t expect big things from them until say 2040 but Visorman plans to retire after the 2013 season

We gave a lot of games away last year, just beat ourselves.
Boise, suspenisons for game 1 really hurt us.
South Carolina, turnovers and the fake punt td were backbreakers, and then we couldn’t stop Lattimore in the 4th quarter. We gave them 21 points.
LSU, punting to Honeybadger, twice, was illadvised, and turning the ball over repetedly in the 3rd quarter, let the game get out of hand–should have won that one.
Michigan St, had them 16-0 in the 3rd quarter, then made 2 turnovers, defense collapsed on long drive at the end of regulation, and we missed a field goal in overtime to win the game.
I don’t see us beating ourselves again. Lessons were learned. Limit mistakes on special teams, and win the turnover battle, and starters need to stay out of trouble, and you’re looking at a big year.

Believe it or not, I’m just trying to be realistic. I do believe in this team and think we deserve a very good ranking but,,,,,,,,,,I want to see improvment from Bobo’s playcalling over last years run up the gut twice, throw a bomb for an interception, complete or incomplete, then punt! Over & Over & Over…Will our special teams be SPECIAL? Will Coach Richt find his foot on lil stevie’s neck or is stevie destined to brag for another year at our expense? Can CMR learn to not be compassionate on the football field? If he can’t, then I’m afraid #6 is way too high. We don’t need to worry about where we are in the polls. You may get your wish. Truth be to we rarely just ran up the gut twice then threw a bomb on 3rd down. You can look at the play by play, and that combination was hardly over and over and over. Rarely, or no more than other combinations would be what you discovered. Now, YOUR perception is that we did, others always complain that we ran it up the guy on third and long (which is just as exagerated). Everybody complians we did the same thing over and over, even as they disagree about what that thing is. That part has more to do with our limited ability to do what we wanted, when we wanted. SO if we can break that “perception”, then yes, the reality will be much better.

UGA laid down last year vs Boise State and was lazy and very sloppy vs SC and got complacent again vs LSU and then with Michigan State, another very sloppy repeat. Until UGA can maintain a killer attitude and bare down hard on their opponents to finish them off, I say UGA is a #12-16 team, Chic Fil A Bowl bound.
SHOW ME that we can win big and keep our feet on their face until the final gun. Until I witness a MAJOR change in attitude, I see UGA as a 9-3 squad.

You can pick out your sequence of plays if you want. Don’t tell me I didn’t witness some of the most unimaginative play-calling on the face of the college football earth. I watched every game. No every series wasn’t two up the gut, bomb and punt, but I saw it over & over so don’t say we were “creative” and fooled LSU, BOISE ST. , Vandy or Fla. Michigan St. knew our plays as good as we did! How many times did you see Carlton Thomas try to run between the tackles? Here’s an easier one, how many times did we make them defend us outside? Go back to your play by play, I know what I saw with my own two eyes. More swing passes & screens. More end arounds and fullback passes out of the backfield. How about more two tight-end sets? I can wait until the S.C. game for most of this, but we must be more deversified or we will be 9-3/ 10-4 again and I think this team can be so much better. If you precieve that we had an unpredictable offense last year, then more power to you. What I saw, can and must be improved if we are to go to the next level…

Damn king, ol buddy. A little edgy today?
But ok, Carlton up the middle. Not sure how many times. A LOT less than folks claim. (especially on third and long, which is the joke, but it happened rarely) The thing about “play by play” is that it is the record of what happens.Seeing with your own eyes is still subject to perception, that was my point.
May I assume you hated seeing Carlton Thomas between the tackles equally as much against Auburn, when it worked every time, too?
And we tried him outside quite a few times and every single time he was thrown for a loss. The worst play we had was Thomas trying to get outside.
I don’t really know how “unpredictable” we were. I never said we were. I think we did some things that were predictable at times, same as everybody. And at times we were starpped by WHAT we could even attmept. I assume if we had all those great option, we would have done it. To me the Best teams in the league are extremely predictable, anyway. I don’t think the better OC’s try to fool anybody. The are very predictable but have the team executing it better than the other guy defends it. I bet you I could call the play at Alabama this year.

WooooooooWeeeeeeeeeee #6 is about right where I predickted we would be come this year since we done a good job last year during the reguler season and then when we played in the bowl game but I dont remember the bowl game to well since I was in a medical induced coma because I had been in a wreck in my truck while driving to see my mama in South Georgia and was hit by a drunken driver who should not have been driving at that time but he was killed so I guess it all worked out. I think this year we need to win 10 or 11 games or Mark Rich will be shone the door and he will end up like Tubby Smith after he was fired from the UGA basketball team for not winning games and he could not get a job after that even though he is black and should have got a job at a black college. When I was a UGA student David Polock and David Green were my hereoes. I wore they’re jerseys to school and to church and out to eat but not at the same time since that might have been confuzing to see me with 2 shirts on at one time but it would have been funny. And you want Vandy to beat USCe – sure you do..It’s SOS and would give you a break since USCe is the only one of the 5 SEC teams in the top 10 you play. Explain how Bama disappeared from your schedule –
It’s not the economy – It’s the schedule stupid..

So just curious…all of the complaining about UGA’S schedule….who actually does the scheduling? Just a few years ago UGA’S schedules were pretty tough both in conf and out of conf….Boise State, Ok state, Arizona St…what happened?

What happened? Damon Evans got stupid–and got fired for it–and McGarity entered the picture. One of the first things McGarity did was kill the scheduled UGA-Oregon home and home series. With McGarity in control, you’re not likely to see many more decent OOC opponents in the years ahead. And that’s an injustice to all UGA supporters.

Dumb comment from a gator (Surprise!) SOS isn’t helped when one team on your schedule (Vandy) beats another (USCe). And the reason Bama is not on this year’s schedule has been explained on these blogs over and over. Hint: UGA had NOTHING to do with it.
Go back to your swamp.

Alt,
sorry you’re having problems with a poser. I always enjoy your post and respect your opinion. You seem to be,a good man and a DGD. In the Auburn game, everything worked, lol. We probably won the flip too. I’m not going to give the trolls on here any joy by “debating” this too deep. I agree we had poor execution and I know we have to own the outside this year to move beyond last years achievements. Always your friend and teammate at heart…

I think you will see a few more things this year. I think we are deeper at RB. I have been hearing some of the pundits saying we might actually BE better on the o-line. I absolutely think we will Murray getting them into better plays. All of that spells a opportunity to spread it out.
Keep in mind, The offense was retooled in the offseason last year. Boise was the first game for everybody running that new style. Looking back, it was pretty obvious to watch. Over the season, the number proved it was a good move, but it did take a while to look better. But then we ended the year with nobody in the backfield. I mean, when you go into the SECCG, with 5′6″ RB as the best option, there is only so much you can do with that.

I think Coach Bobo get way too much blame for his playcalling, and too much credit for having offenses standing on the field that are capable of doing anything they are ask if only somebody would call it. In my mind the critisism he deserves, is that he calls what he thinks he can pull off………(meaning he needs to put a better squad out there so he can call better plays)

The new leaner more athletic OLine may be able to get outside better than the Woolly Mammoth’s we had last year. DGDs, but too slow for an outside game. I should say a successful outside game. Add Lynch, Hicks & Hall and I see a lot of opptions we didn’t have last year. In the 4 th quarter this year, I want to see Richard Samuel taking it outside with some lead blocks on a tired Defense. You can always hope can’t you??

Keith Marshall maybe. Samuel’s going to be between that tackles.

I know you like that outside, but that is a by-product of getting the inside game going first.

Alt,
They must compliment each other with a good short passing game to loosen the line. I don’t want it all outside. I just want more outside. We actually do have some speed backs now. I’m nothing but excited…

I agree with the premise. It’s complimetary play that help each other. We just have some disagreement about “chicken or the egg” but it’s pretty nuanced. Of cource I am a nuanced debate kind of fellow.

forget the ranking and all the talk, we are just ready to play football; we have a lot to prove to all those Dawg hatters and our selves. Crowell was a disstraction, now we can focus on playing football the BULLDOG WAY! Crowell, good luck where ever you are.

I agree with Bad Dawg, UGA needs to play all the best teams, we know we are good but how good.
