The University of Georgia reported Tuesday night that 105 players reported for preseason football camp. That is the maximum amount allowed by NCAA rule. Unofficially, 76 of those players are on scholarship, which is nine below the NCAA limit.
The Bulldogs will undergo physicals and conditioning tests on Wednesday and several players will be taking final exams from summer semester. Then the first of 28 preseason practices will be held Thursday afternoon. UGA Media Day will be conducted at lunchtime Thursday. The season opener is Sept. 1 against Buffalo.

Let’s see, UGA opens vs Buffalo. ‘Bama opens vs Michigan. We bet Bama/Mich will have some “jacked up” practices and will be ready for the whole year while UGA may be asleep vs Buffalo.

Having the biggest slowest o-line in college football still didn’t help the Dawgs push the LOS. Lets hope these quicker younger guys can get off the ball and put a hat on their man.

Another start to football season, consistant failure over the past several years, not one win to hang our hat on the past four years, irrelevant to the national scene, irrelevant to the sec conference, will UGA take a step forward this year, New Year, Same Hype, hum, 2012 is the last chance for UGA to be competitive the next few years.

Remember this about anybody that takes a Penn. State player this year, and is allowed to go beyond their recruiting limit for 2013. You have on less scholarship to give for the 2014 class. That kid better be a mighty good investment and help immediately, because you are using future resources to try and win today. I hope the QB LSU took, turns out to be special.

59, EVERY SEC team has at least 20 walk-ons in camp. And we have 19offensive linemen on scholarship. How many would you like to see?

Team will be better next year, AD. Schedule is bound to be tougher with one or more of the top 3 West teams, plus Clemson.
Richt needs to put up 11 or more wins this year. Win that Mizzou game on the road, and he’s got a good chance to do that.

A tougher schedule, even if that means losing a game(s) does not equate to “not competitive”. IMO.
And even IF he does win 11, some folks will post tirelessly to discount that based on it not being 11 of the top teams.

But I am interested in Game Changer’s explaination. It was an honest question. Why will UGA cease to be competitive in the next few years, after 2012.

“And we have 19offensive linemen on scholarship.”
That sounds nice on the surface, but some of them are probably injured. Others are probably being redshirted or only weigh 270 lbs or something and are not ready for big time SEC football. Or, some are just not very good. Whatever is going on, we always seem to have depth problems on the SEC line. I know this is a common problem across all of college football, but it is a persistant problem with us that this coaching staff has never been able to figure out. The truly elite teams are able to put together a strong O-line every 2 or 3 years. We have not fielded a decent O-line in ages. It is always a weakness. It is the #1 thing holding the program back right now if you ask me.
Thanks.

Altamaha, I never realized there were that many. But to answer your question I’d love to be 3 deep at position with quality.
