The University of Georgia reported Tuesday night that 105 players reported for preseason football camp. That is the maximum amount allowed by NCAA rule. Unofficially, 76 of those players are on scholarship, which is nine below the NCAA limit.
The Bulldogs will undergo physicals and conditioning tests on Wednesday and several players will be taking final exams from summer semester. Then the first of 28 preseason practices will be held Thursday afternoon. UGA Media Day will be conducted at lunchtime Thursday. The season opener is Sept. 1 against Buffalo.

Altamaha, I never realized there were that many. But to answer your question I’d love to be 3 deep at each position with quality.

I agree with the joke there. And the point. But in reality, its not a matter of numbers. We HAVE the numbers. I’d imagine we have as many OL on the roster as anybody right now, and adding in Feb. (pushing it well over 20). Experience is the thing, we all know that at this point. (except for some who keep incorrectly calling it a numbers issue)

How many walk ons will get a scholarship this year? As long as they are seniors it won’t count towards the numbers in this recruiting class.

Not sure anybody is truly 3 deep with at every position. I’d also think that every SEC team has to list a few players at multiple positions to fill out thier actual 3 deep. But I certainly agree with your goal there.
I’d say we have, 12-15 OL on the roster right now, that are potentially good enough talent wise to play in a SEC game. With experience ranging from: a lot more than I think people realize (3 returning starters) to not much.

I could be wrong, but regarding Penn St players, i think teams are allowed to go over their 85 scholarships just for this year…but will have to make adjustments for it next year.

I know we have to take into account injuries, grades, misbehavior and recruiting mistakes but it does seem that we are counting on incoming freshmen every year to play on our O line. That’s a big challenge no mater how good you are in high school. Just wish we had some stability there. Also wish we were experienced at runnign back but the past 3-5 years have been dismal in that regard. Hopefully Marshall and Gurley will start a new trend.

Too funny, theozone.net reports that the dog/Florida game is the most overated game that weekend due the dogs dismal 4-18 record over the last years.
Even funnier, the SEC! SEC! championship is also noted as an overated game because there will be a representative from the SEC! SEC! LEAST.

Does anyone know the status of Kolton Houston? I read a post the other day he was leaving. I think the line should be good this year after a few games. Those lineman last year did lots of “holler blocking”. They seemed to be standing around hollering for Murray to watch out because they had missed their blocks. We can’t be much worse.

Here’s to having a great year and beating the tar out of Tech.
My two favorite teams are UGA and whoever is playing Tech.
With regards to Aubarn, here’s my favorite Aubarn joke:

3 My doublewide is paid for.

I’m sure any number of the Bama trolls can give us the exact numbers, But as I read Alabama’s roster (reputed to have a strong line again) they have 15 OL, only 8 of which have ever played a snap. . The big difference is: thier starters are all fairly expereinced, and whatever conclusions sombody wants to draw about the overall talent level. But for sure they are not 3 deep at every position with expereinced SEC linemen.
My point being, UGA is not so far off as there seems to be this accepted notion. I actually think we are in better shape depth wise this year as we have been in a while.

As I said, that’s a pretty envious starting Line-up.
Your SID needs to look at the official roster though, because 3 of those reserves are not shown to be letterman.
Good illustration of how 2 deep, with some being underclassmen, is about as good as even the teams that are thought to have Oline as a strength are realistically..

So, UGA has 105 yet Richt wanted 19 additional players??? Sounds like he was gonna have try-outs for the 85 and remove current players off scholarship. SMH
I wonder how those ‘highly-touted’ RBs feel knowing Richt was planning to have them ride the pine behind Silas Redd?

That is about the most pointless argument that gets repeated in here. IF he number of scholarshiped players is what matters most, they could change that to 85 tommorrow. and some of those guys would probably be better than some other players that were recruited at various other places. What matters is talent level ON the field. IF you want to have that debate, start naming names and positions, and let’s have the debate.
The roster Number does have potential concequences, but of those, the results this year are not likely one of them.
Or, keep repeating stuff you read but put no thought into and pretend to have an actual opinion on it. Thats goes for a few Georgia fans too.

You know this is where the AJC creates a story where there isn’t one. I think anybody with half a brain realizes that Richt wasn’t trying to sign 19 PSU players. He was just interested in gaging the interest of 19 PSU players and evidently there wasn’t any. The way the article was titled was misleading. But that’s the way the AJC rolls!

Somebody need to tell St. Richt to work on his ciphers…the scholarship limit is 85 not 95. Looks like he was using ‘Fuzzy Math.’
Anyway you slice it, to hover like a vulture over 19 players is pathetic! The 25 or whatever he just signed out of HS should be outraged. After giving them all kinds of recruiting promises, Richt was prepared to bring in more bodies ahead of them on the depth chart. Your RBs should be upset beyond measure that he tried to poach Silas Redd. I hope RB Greg Bryant is paying attention…

UGA 24/7 and Chip – part of NCAA ruling says that any team who takes a Penn State player does NOT have to make room; they will be allowed an “extra” scholarship if necessary for this year only.

All CMR did was what the NCAA mandated as far as PSU players transferring. He was required to notify PSU of the 19 players UGA might want to contact in the near future. Not that he would contact any of them, and so far, there has been nothing said of him actually contacting any of them. After discussions with the staff, UGA decided to go a different route. Not one PSU player was offered a contract and turned it down. As fart as has been reported, not one player was ever contacted by CMR or staff. After evaluating the circumstances, I am sure that UGA decided they would rather stick with their recruiting classes and not go for maybe an immediate fix at some position or another. LSU got a 3rd string QB from PSU, and lame kitten took a one year running back. That may pan out, once he gets into the routine and learns the playbook. If he does good at USC he will be a junior and be gone after one year.
