Video: Wrapping up Georgia’s appearance at SEC Football Media Days

Following is a video chat I had with Brian Clark of CineSport late Thursday wrapping up SEC Football Media Days in Hoover, Ala., and Georgia’s involvement in it. The Bulldogs were picked to win the SEC East and placed six players on the media’s preseason All-SEC team.

I do need to state though Chip, with all the SEC media days you guys at the ajc have been a disappointment to the online crowd. The coverage was pretty lame for there to be what 4-5 of you there? Where’s the copy?

Chip what do you think about the absence of Aaron Murray at the SEC Media Days?

I understand, Aaron was in California as a counselor for one of Nike’s Elite 11 advents.

Seems like Aaron Murray may have made a poor choice… while all Aaron’s teammate’s are working hard, as a team in Athens this summer, he chose to be a counselor at two Nike elite camp’s, rather than working out with his team and representing them, as a team leader, at the SEC Media Day advent.

Should not the team come first?

Sorry I missed your story on Muschamp. Just went back and read it and then posted to that article. Boy….you sure gave the Dawg fans plenty of space to bash Muschamp and they did. But I was amazed at all the lack of knowlege of the program posted by many to that artice (for example…..”Florida just lost their starting tight end.” Hey….I was not aware that Jordan Reed….on the John Mackey watch list…had left the Gators and Muschamp. Hummm……but I do know that A.C. Leonard….running 5th string at the time (Jordan Reed, Omaris Hines, Clay Burton, Trevin Westbook….all ahead of him….and two outstanding freshmen joining the team this summer…..was recently asked to leave the program for physically assulting his girlfriend and then not doing the things he needed to do to “earn” his way back on the roster. But….hey…Georgia won last year. Their fans deserve to be able to brag and bash for one year. But…you better enjoy it while you can….because Muschamp is going to be in Gainesville for a while….along with his new outstanding OC, outstanding DC…and the other outstanding assistants. And all that high school talent is not going anywhere….and Florida is getting a bunch of it…..as well as a bunch of other top talent from other states. And some idiot posted that Florida has a second rate football program anyway….well….tell that to Jeremy Foley and most informed national media….or simply visit THE SWAMP and the phenominal workout and practice facilities on the U of F campus….all dedicated to the football program. Yep……Florida is second rate and so is Muschamp and Foley. If so, why would Georgia hire Foley’s second in command? I guess that makes Georgia 3rd rate in comparison…….and….by the way…..second rate is not winning 3 national championships since 1995…and having the most wins by far (7) in SEC Championships games since its inception…….but not winning one since 1980 and only 2 (yes….I got the math right this time) SEC titles since 1990…..might be close to second rate. So….bash all you want this summer. I am sure Muschamp’s second rate Gators will show up in JAX in late October anyway.

NorthAugDawg….one of the most repulsive things true UGA fans hate to see is anyone….and I mean ANYONE….bring up is “Yeah, but in the all time series we still lead you, etc, etc…”.It’s embarrassing to think someone has to resort to that. Let’s just aknowledge that as of the past 20 years, Florida just owns us. Yes, we own Auburn, Tech, Ol Miss, etc.. It only matters what happens in the past year or three in the real world. if you bring up Herschell Walker when we are discussing running backs, you will be shot on the spot…..or Rex Robinson in a place kicking discussion. That is a time long gone and only makes the fans today snicker and smil that you would bring up “the all-time series”. Don’t do that any more…

Where do I start? The grammar errors are almost too much to read through that crap you just posted. Don’t talk to me like I’m some young kid and lecture me about being a “True Dawg Fan”. A True Dawg fan hates anything and everything Florida, got that cupcake? I was unaware that there was obviously a convention of “True UGA fans” that took a vote and said “We really hate those all time series stats, we should look down on those.” And who is all this “We” and “Us” you speak of? Do you currently play for the Dawgs? If so get off the computer and hit the fields… We have a championship to win this year if you haven’t heard. UGA has a total all time record to be proud of unlike MANY programs out there, so embrace it, don’t knock it. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your stance on being a “True UGA fan”. So follow your own advice and “Dont do that anymore….”

I love how Florida Fans tend to use the “Dawg Fans are living in the past” or some variation of the sort like Oh Gawd whenever the all time series is brought up, yet have no problem to referencing “The Last 20 Years” because it’s more recent history. Can’t have it both ways. The fact is UGA does own the all time series record, and what does it say about the state of that series prior to the last 20 years when UF can be as dominate as they were and STILL be behind 7 games. Don’t get me wrong UF had a nice run, but it’s come to an end. The gators have hired their Ray Goff in Muschamp, so welcome back to mediocrity.

Oh Gawd – thanks for the laugh buddy!

Spanky…..

I like Richt as a person and a coach. His glaring weakness over the years has been his inablity to hire top tier assistant coaches….and I believe that has hurt in the “coaching up” of some of the great talent he has previously had on his rosters…..and hurt him in the Florida series over the past 20 or so years. Grantham seems to be a good assistant, but I still think the overall assistant coaching staff remains not top tier at Georgia. I do believe….in hind sight….that Muschamp made a major mistake in the Weis hire (I thought it was a great one at the time)…..including Frank Verducci who came with Weis as the OL coach. But Weis has been replaced by Pease (from Boise State)….and I think he communicates much better with the offensive players at Florida and will run a less predictable offense….and the rest of the staff is just excellent, including the new OL coach. I realize Dawg fans insulting and questioning Muschamp and his future at Florida are simply “wishing.” Unfortunately, I think their wishing well will dry up real quickly….starting this year.

LOL @ OhGawd

July 20th, 2012
5:01 pm

Tampa Gator – I actually have to agree with you on Richt and assistants. I think sometimes he has this sense of wanting to give a young coach with potential a chance, much like he was given by Bobby Bowden, or perhaps in hopes of finding assistants that will grow with him and stay at UGA for longer periods of time like Mickey Andrews and Chuck Amato. Grantham was a great hire, and anyone who really knows football and follows it knows it. But some of the other decisions are head scratchers. I mean we have a former RB coach coaching WRs and a former WR coaching RBs.

Anyway for your sake I hope you’re right about Muschamp, but with some of his antics last year and the way he came in with all the big talk, he seems closer to Goff or Donnan than Spurier or Myer

Spanky….

1. Jeff Driskell was the #1 QB recruit in the country in 2010. Jocoby Brissett was #5. Yep….Florida’s got both of them back….and now they know the offense and have gained valuable on the field experience against big time teams (Bama and LSU). As I recall…..the current Georgia QB was not all that great as a reshirt freshmen either (team was terrible)…and got a lot better as a soph….a whole lot better. I expect the same will take place with the Florida QBs this year….and both….have more physical skills…..in that both have stronger throwing arms…..and…..both are physically much bigger and stronger than Murray…..and just as athletic…maybe more….than Murray…..and we will see if they have developed the way he did in their second year? I am not saying either is as good a Murray at this point (because Murray is obviously shown he is better)….but both could certainly develop into outstanding QBs this year. But both certainly have a lot to prove….but both have the ability and skills to do it. And….if they do…Florida will be a major challenge for any team they play in 2012.

2. What does Georgia having a seven game overall edge over Florida have to do with 2012? Answer: Absolutely nothing. And what does Florida dominating since 1990 have to do with 2012? Answer: absolutely nothing. And what does Georgia winning in 2011 have to do with 2012? Answer: Georgia has more confidence and Florida is very angry and hungry. And you do not want to be around a Gator when it is angry and hungry.

3. Believe me, Florida’s roster is loaded with talent and it is being coached and developed extremely well by Muschamp and his staff. If a few things fall into place….like Brissett and/or Driskell stepping up this year, Gillislee avoiding injury at RB, and the young WRs showing improvement…..(the OL is already much better, much bigger, much stronger, and much deeper)….the Gators will be extremely good this year. The defense…by the way….is already extremely good….and extremely fast.

But….I am sure you are totally going to overlook the Florida game as a sure win for Georgia this year. Just got to get by Vandy….and then just roll over the Gators. No worries then mon…because LSU plays SC and we play Ole Miss. Yeah…boy!

If all programs in the SEC would hold their players accountable as Georgia does then we may be shocked at how many schools would have players on probation, leave their school, or ban from football.

I hope Georgia maintains the expectations they have set and hold all accountable for their individual actions good or bad.

Good job Coach Richt and staff and kudo’s to the players that keep their nose clean. Quality players will begin to see their efforts to stay focused and clean pay off for them and their family.

For those that have committed an infraction and are still in the football program be thankful you play for Georgia and clean up your act and quit disrespecting yourself, your school, your coaches, teammates, and most of all your parents!!!

Best of luck Georgia and go DAWGS!!!

If I were betting I would bet on Ga not to win the East. Too many unknowns. They have not fixed he OL and we have no proven running back. Special teams and kickers are rookies, we have a mistake prone offense and suspensions so far have damaged the defense. Ga is picked to win the East because it should. But we often see Ga do as it shouldnt. Just look at those suspensions…..if ever there was a program that does at it shouldn’t….

Overall I think the coverage of SEC media days was pretty good. I get the feeling a lot of my fellow members of the Bull Dog nation are a little too dismissive of AU,UT and UF. I think that as always those will be dog fights, all 3 programs should be up from last year. So lets stay out of trouble from now to summer camp, hopefully have a good injury free camp. And start the season taking it one game at a time and see where the season takes us. Go Dogs!

why don’t you patrol the UF blogs and “straighten out” the anti-gators there instead of always being on a UGA site just so you can fix something that ain’t broke. I think the Gators need all the help they can get. Don’t you think you would be more useful there.
