Mark Richt, Ole Miss coach respond to Steve Spurrier’s schedule shot

HOOVER, Ala. – In a jab at Georgia’s schedule earlier this week, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier offended Mississippi’s football program. Said Spurrier: “If I made the schedule, Georgia would be playing LSU, and we’d be playing Ole Miss.”

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze fired back on Thursday as SEC Media Days concluded: “2013, I think they’re on our schedule. We will circle that date and look forward to maybe changing his perspective on Ole Miss football.”

Georgia coach Mark Richt also was asked about Spurrier’s comment that he’d prefer to play UGA’s cross-division schedule rather than South Carolina’s.

“I’m sure there will be a year he’ll be thankful for the schedule he has,” Richt said.

Richt, but USCe NEVER gets the talent UGa gets and the dwags still can’t get to the BCS MNC game.

Sprurrier only mouths off when he has a good team coming back. He’s pretty meek and hides in the back of the room when they stink. Richt is pretty classy, Sprurrier not so much.

Spurrier doesn’t strike me as the type to be thankful for anything. But I’ll bet he was “Mr. Humble” when he had to go before the NCAA infractions committee about his players and hotelgate!!!

Call me crazy but I like Spurrier and think his comments are funny. Plus he’s a damn good coach. I still know we’re going to beat em and win the east but hey, he’s just having fun.

Twinkie, A tech fan trashing any SEC school is hilarious.Tech vs anyone in the SEC is a bad matchup for Tech, Now wander over to the Duke board and talk smack with teams that consider the Tech program and their joke coach relevant..

Spurrier is the worst complainer and whiner in the SEC. Would love to see Ole Miss upset the Game Crocks.

I don’t know, or care, which team in the SEC West SC plays on an annual basis, but my guess is that Auburn, year in year out, will be better. Wanna trade Steve? Also would have loved it if Freeze had added to his comment:…assuming Coach Spurrier will still be the coach at South Carolina when we play in 2013.

I’m a huge Dawgs fan, but Spurrier is a much better coach than Richt. If Spurrier had been at UGA over the same period of time that Richt has been here, and had Spurrier had the exact same recruits that Richt has had, UGA would likely have won a National Championship by now. Love Spurrier or hate him, he’s a hell of a coach.

Funny. Spurrier knows that he was handed a gift game by UGA last year. This year USCe will get slaughtered in Columbia by the Dawgs. I am calling a 45 to 17 game! UGA gonna grind on some Chicken Head! Go Dawgs!

You are right. Spurrier wouldn’t have allowed Willie Martinez to be the DC when VanGorder left. Spurrier would have found a good DC and won the NC in 2008 with Stafford, Moreno and Green. However, I also dont think that Stafford or Green would have played for Spurier. Green shunned Spurrier in an interview after signing with the Dawgs. He said something along the lines of Spurrier was too controlling and hostel for his nature. Thus, I am not sure some of the talent would have came to UGA with Spurier at the helm. You wouldnt have seen Stafford or Murray for sure.

As a Dawg alumnus, and this may be blasphemy, I have always enjoyed Spurriers quotes. He just has a way with the oneliner. I remember at his press conference when he was named the coach of the Washington Redskins, a reporter asked him, “Is Dallas going to become your new Florida State?” To which, little Stevie replied, ” I hope they are my new Georgia.” Stung a little, but had to give him credit, that was funny. I also remember some former Heisman winners’ function when all the former living winners were in attendance, as well as UGA V or VI I think, where he was the only one to step out of the line and pat UGA on the head.

5:31 comment. UGA has better talent that SC and still not winning NCs. OK, and your point was?
Because they are? That made no sense.

Steve is a hoot, no doubt.

Chip, you hear anymore on those suspensions of Rambo, etc.?

My guess is they were on double-secret-pinky-shake probation whereby if they ran some steps, showed up on time, and worked hard they’d avoid suspension.

Am I right?

Like him or hate him he can coach. I agree with the comment about if he had UGA’s talent during the Richt era he would have won multiple Championships. Heck he would have won more than Meyer at UF if he had Meyers talent. Spurrier’s only downfall is he HATES recruiting. He told a mutual golfing buddy friend of mine one time when he was at UF, “I ain’t begging no 18-yearold to come to Florida”.

Funny, the last time Spurrier made fun of UGA for losing to Vanderbilt, his “mighty Gamechickens” lost to that very same Vandy team back to back seasons. Keep talking Steve!

Charlie Hayes- Your comments are the most popular on this blog by UGA fans, how UGA actually won last years game vs SC. I’ll take another such UGA “victory” this year! No way UGA blows out SC in Columbia. Maybe UGA beats SC in a close one, but if a blow out takes place, UGA will be on the receiving end. I think Lattimore has a chance to be the all time leading rusher against UGA, if he is not already (350 plus yards- how many UGA opponents ever get a total of 350 yds).!

Spurrier will one day open his mouth at the wrong time and someone will put a fist down his throat. I hope that will happen soon. I’m surprised Bill Stanfill hasn’t already jacked stevie’s jaw. He hated sos when he played against him and I believe he continues to hate him till this day. Spurrier may be a good coach but as a person he is a first class or should I say a classless A$$WHOLE.

Some of you guys are morons. Spurrier was just having some fun. It is a game. When he loses, he praises his opponent. When he wins, he enjoys it and has some funny things to say. Lighten up. Spurrier will make $4 million this year coaching the game he loves. Not a bad life.

What makes his quotes funny and sting so much is that they are true. All he said is that if HE was making up the schedule he would rather play Ole Miss than LSU. The media just picked LSU to finish first and Ole Miss to finish last.

We need to find the group that are responsible for framing our athletes!!…putting marjuana in their mouths, guns in their cars, fists in their gf’s faces, passed out in the street and fail classes….Just hope we have enough players eligible by the time SC game comes around. I hear Crowell is going to be at every home game this year…sell sodas at the concession stands! Richt is already stocked up on his depends when he pees himself and has a big dump in his pants…

I bet if Spurrier was available UGA would take him in a mobile second if they could get him! Give him a couple more years at SC and he will be beating Grorgia just like he didt when he was at Fla.

I love it when coaches choose to get offended when another coach speaks the absolute truth. There isn’t a coch in America who would rather play LSU over Ole Miss. Sorry Coach Freeze, your team sucks this year. You may be better next year, but really?!, you are going to take exception to that right now? You better thicken that skin, cause that quip was nothing compared to what you are gonna hear after he rolls you next year.

I was a junior in HS when S Spurrier won his Heisman. My dad was a Gator from Jax and I am a Bulldog from metro Atl. Steve recalls the whuppin that UGA’s Bill Stanfill gave him in 66 and that game set the stage for all that followed for both UGA and Spurrier.

Now, if/when Spurrier loses to UGA, he usually has a decent, albeit short positive thing to say and then he moves on. He is a competitor and that is the way that it is. This makes football fun.

I look forward to playing SC this season in October. Last year, we blew that game. Murray choked so badly with a pic 6 td and his usual TD resulting fumbles, like vs Fl in 2010. IC fumbled and Ingram did his fake punt blocker routine for TD. Folks, last year UGA was simply OUTCOACHED, so maybe this year we get in the game.

I would be willing to bet that:

1 If The State of Georgia lowered the legal drinking age to 18 as it should be then the arrests would all but disappear. When I was in school it was 18 because the case was made that if a kid was old enough to go into the military and fight and possibly die overseas then he was old enough to go into a bar and have a beer.

2 The SEc Commissioner set a standard for transparency that Georgia follows for all SEC schools with recruit reductions if that standard is violated.

Then there would be a level field for teams with problem players.

Let Spurrier continue to “rattle his tongue” about UGA’s easy schedule. This shows a lack of respect for what he thinks the Dawgs can do head to head in Columbia this fall. I hope all of these quotes will be read to our team just before kickoff of that game.

The ole ball coach should be thinking about SC football after Lattimore’s ACL. Most guys get the bounce back in their step the second year after rehab. Can’t imagine him being the pre injury Lattimore this season. He probably bolts for the dollars after this season since he can’t risk his pro career for Spurrier.
