HOOVER, Ala. — Georgia will win the SEC East and lose to LSU in the SEC Championship game again this season.
That’s according to the annual preseason media poll, announced Thursday at SEC Media Days.
Georgia received 132 votes to win the East, followed by 72 votes for South Carolina and 12 for Florida.
LSU drew 139 votes to win the West, followed by 72 for defending national champion Alabama and six for Arkansas.
If the media is correct in both divisions, that would set up a rematch of last year’s SEC title game. And the outcome would be the same, too, according to the preseson media poll.
LSU received 129 votes to win the SEC championship, followed by 65 votes for Alabama and 14 for Georgia. Five other teams got six votes or fewer to win the conference title, including one unfathomable vote for Mississippi.
“I hope the media is right [on its SEC East pick],” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “I was looking at the record of picking the eventual champion, and it wasn’t real good. Maybe you guys are a lot better at picking divisional champions anyway. But it would be nice to get back to Atlanta … and hopefully play a little bit better this time around.”
The annual media poll has attempted to predict the SEC order of finish since 1992. But it has correctly predicted the eventual SEC champion only four times in those 20 years, most recently in 2008 (Florida).

the western division has hardly owned the SEC!
The west has won the last 3 SEC championships by an average of 30 points. The east isn’t even coming within 4 touchdowns. According to the above votes, no one thinks the SEC east really even has a chance to win the SEC. The old days are over. Quit clinging to them in an effort to convince people you are still relevant. The west completely owns the east right now.

I think all of Bulldog Nation is finally on the same page with 2012 being a make or break year for this program. A lot of key players will probably be leaving after this season.

Will win West and the SEC.
They have the best offensive line in the country… No question.
They may bore some with their style. Maintain a strong ground game, do not turn the ball over. Play a strong defense at all times.

gt bob,
so by your logic, the sec as a whole should be broken-up as well, considering that teams from the league have won the last 6 bcs championships?
instead of focusing your concerns regarding divisional differences, maybe you should re-focus your concerns as to how far behind the rest of the leagues are.

MS Bully, I am pretty sure Georgia could do better than 0-12 playing those teams that you mentioned. Maybe you should concentrate on beating one of them, ever, then worry about our side. You would loss at least 3 SEC games playing our schedule this year so NO, you would not win the east.

There are just too many ?? to make championship claims this soon. A new and undersized OL for the most part won’t help the running game nor pass protection against SEC defenses. Loss of their best RB was a big blow toss in expecting FR to replace IC is a long shot. Attrition during the off season, suspensions, etc, thins an already shrinking back up corps. Doesn’t appear CMR has done anything to fix special teams play which cost GA a few games in ‘11. Only bright spot is the defense but can’t expect them to win games if the Offense sputters as it did in the 4 losses last season.
The MO game will be a good yardstick to measure how successful dawgs will be this season. If they struggle and we see the same problems as we’ve seen in past seasons then some heads have to roll. Lets hope for a miracle because thats what they’ll need to reach championship level.

What does the stupid media know. LSU will beat us because….Why? They are LSU? They are also starting a new player at the most important position on the field and we have an experienced 3 year starter. I think that give US the edge.

Kerryb, the flaw in that logic regarding QB is that last year Bama was not given a chance to win anything, much less the BCS NC, because we had a rookie QB. While the percentages may support your argument, there’s never a guarantee.

The Missouri game will tell us a lot. If Murray can hold down his mistakes and if Morgan is accurate inside of 45 yards Georgia will be a force this year. If both of those things are a mirror image of last year then the prediction is wrong but the important part is Georgia has the personnel to win the East , the question is do we have the leadership.

If UGA should win the East and face LSU again, I actually think UGA would win the rematch. UGA’s defense is all returning, by and large, as is LSU’s. People forget how UGA dominated the first half of that game; it wasn’t until special teams miscues and a couple of turnovers that LSU began to have any success. It will, of course, come down to whether or not UGA can establish a meaningful running game this year. If UGA can establish that meaningful running game, they should win the SEC. If they cannot, they probably will not win the East.

you know i really am sick to death of this schedule talk crap…i mean you act like georgia decides who it plays in the sec….everything is on rotation which means every few years you will not play bama and lsu we do not decide that spurier does not decide that and never ever will…he can play ole’ miss next year….this is absurd….can we please take a look at the ga tech schedule…
Sept. 3 – at Virginia Tech
Sept. 8 – Presbyterian

Expectations too high. Ga never has measured up to them. I hope we do but this schedule will be tougher than we think. If we win both games in Columbia we will win East. Lose either of them and we probably won’t. Beginning of season has to be strong. Then we have to get better.

I am not sure having the easiest schedule in the east has anything to do with making it easier to win the whole SEC. I know there is some logic there, but isn’t LSU or Alabama going to be still the same team , no matter what schedule UGA has leading up to Atlanta? Would it be any different if UGA had the hardest schedule in the east and still won?
In 2010 UGA was also supposed to have had an easy schedule according to Spurrier and S.C. won the East and got their pants handed to them by Auburn in Atlanta. Did having a harder East schedule equate to winning the SEC? Is it the principle that the less tough schedule you get, the better you are in the big game? Spurrier complains that UGA had an easy schedule and didn’t deserve to be in the SECCG. If S.C. had won the Auburn game, wouldn’t they have been in Atlanta. Seems to me, they made their own fate. Or could it just maybe be the other way around?
You play the teams you are assigned except for those OCC games, and there is no way of knowing until you play those games, how good or bad the opponents or your team will be. Was Auburn a better team then S.C. was last year? I think that makes three in a row for Auburn over S.C., but was Auburn the better team last year?
I think the teams should just play their games, and ignore the other teams schedule and let it work out. If S.C. is a good as Spurrier says they are, he should win the east. He has to beat LSU, but if they are so good, he should take care of them during the regular season and then beat whatever team represents the west in Atlanta. It doesn’t matter who your conference mates are. You either are as good as you perceive or you are not. The SEC East is just a small part, of a long journey to the big game.

So UGA wins East but South carolina is the best team in the East, finishes higher in BCS standing, gets a better bowl. Just like 2011! Will UGA ever be the BEST team in the East again? Not this year.
Does anyone else notice the building hot seat for CMR on these blogs. CMR’s pants will probably be on fire after Missouri. Definetly after 3 straight losses to SC.
